I see he's just signed for Manly. Did he ever do anything of note in the Super League? Can't believe we replaced him with Sam "the man" Tomkins straight after we made the grand finals.

He was rubbish for Salford (although he claims they made him play through an injury), resigned over a payment dispute, got released, went to Wakefield, and then got sacked after three months when him and Tim Smith got drunk and stole Brian Smith's car.

I thought Sam Tomkins was always very good when the Warriors were on it, but then he just looked as shit as everybody else during their trademarked collapses and no-shows. Throw in his injuries and bollocks defence (which his team was always happy to expose), and it was a bit of a bust. He was properly world class between 2010 and 2013, to the point where he was far too good for Super League, but he looks a shadow of his former self these days.

In an alternate reality him and Kyle Eastmond are still the England halves, and Chris Ashton is our starting full-back.

The 2025 Rugby League World Cul is going to be held in North America...

Edit: Surely holding it in Fiji would have been a better choice.

That's not how sports administrators work. They look at the size of the sports TV market in the territory (usually ignoring the share taken by their own sport) and ignore literally every other factor.

New Zealand really are wank. It was a fairly special effort from England to lose against them.

I remember saying in 2014 that Cooper Cronk should be phased out of 'rep footy' for Daly Cherry-Evans (who probably won't play it ever again).

It definitely feels like an NRL decision because they are obsessed with America. Make sense though if they play games where that new Candian team is based.

The team names in American rugby league are amazing. In 2014 the two worst, the Orlando Adrenaline and the Daytona Gearheads (capt. Paul Gallen), merged to become the much more respectable Central Florida Warriors. With that sort of shit going on, it seems well placed to capitalise on any enthusiasm for rugby.

Red cards in Rugby really need to be used a lot more frequently (which they probably should), or done away with. At least this makes it interesting, I guess.

Whilst I understand it, I really don't like the super-strict 'taken in the air'/dangerous landing rule enforcement. For me, trying to decapitate a winger as he looks likely to score (standard New Zealand defensive tactic) should be dealt with equally as severely, but never is, and red cards for bad landings kill games from a spectator's perspective (see Wales getting the shaft against France in the World Cup).

I take it back about the overly officious enforcement of that rule. May should have tried to land on his head.

Reds for dangerous landings or dumps are fair, it's ridiculously dangerous. I agree on high tackles, but then NZ in particular get away with infringing all over the place anyway.

I just think it's dodgy punishing an outcome, rather than an action, especially when the sporting sanction is so high. Perhaps you need a method to remove a player from the game (and then give a lengthy ban to) without wrecking the game itself. The difference in the act of Daly and the Argentinian just there before was extremely marginal, particularly when, in my opinion, modern players look to jump into contact when going up to take a high ball.

Conversely perhaps players need to stop doing things that might get them sent off, the margins might be slim but if you put yourself in that position then you have to accept the consequences if you get it wrong. That's what was so silly about the Wales situation, you had them bitching about the rules when it was their own captain who chose to do something he should know might get him sent off.

On a different subject why are we playing in that shit black strip?

You can't really not contest the ball though, can you, and what with momentum being a thing and all, if you are legging it at someone, and they jump into the air towards you, what are you suppose to do - dive out of their way? The problem is when you take it into slow motion and it looks like contact was easily avoidable, when it rarely is. If you want to do away with the danger of taking someone in the air, then you punish all contact in the same way. Just like a two footed tackle in football is (should be) a red card regardless of whether contact with a player is made.

The football analogy works, just not when you apply it to all contact in the air. Tipping someone in the air should be the analogous offence so even if they're fine (like the guy today seems to be) it's still a red.

I assume it's like football teams and third strips, simply there to try and part fans with their money.

Totally agree. It's incredibly dangerous, and players should be discouraged from getting anywhere near the margins.

That's the fault of players being stupid. It's not like they go in not knowing the rule.

What's this another civil war in Australian Rugby League? It's almost as if the game down here is getting in its own way again...

Edit: Meanwhile David Gallop is lolling as he plans to expand the A League again.

The imminent success of the Toronto venture has them running scared.

This Semi Radradra stuff is lol. Is he just trying to get himself sacked? Over here Denny Solomona had his code switch blocked by Castleford, so he retired from rugby league and started training with Sale, with them claiming that you can't stop moves from 'another sport'. The useless league people are backing Castleford all the way, so they will presumably agree a transfer fee before it actually gets to court, but that would be interesting.

Semi has been offered French Rugby money and has a court case over his head so I guess from his point of view League is small time. What about that letter to Meninga thought mate? I though you were true blue now?

Surely he won't be going anywhere if his court case is months away and they have taken his passport off him (lol). Besides, Australia selection is irrelevant now that he more than likely falls foul of the famous Mal Meninga 'no dickheads' policy like Blake Ferguson and Josh Dugan somehow didn't.

If e-cig comapnies can sponsor sport then surely the major tobacco companies should just buy them up (if they don't already own them) and use them as a brand recognition exercise. Having B&H sponsor the snooker or the good old McLaren/Marlboro livery seems a lot less of an existential threat to society than 'Totally Wicked Park'.

Call me a communist, but I think there should be a blanket ban on stadium naming rights. You couldn't rebrand Westminster Abbey as the 'Qatar Airways Place of Worship', so why should sports venues be any different?

Vaping seems to be the newest obsession for the professional saddos, so I've decided that I'm all for it. Plus nothing will ever be as shit as Castleford spending two years at 'The PROBIZ Coliseum' (or letting Qantas hijack your national team).
