I've never really bitten before, but among the lefty circles I move in a lot of them have similar views and I've decided to make a stand now. If England was a racist shit hole I'd be thoroughly ashamed, but no actual data suggests it is, or at least no worse than anywhere else and in the vast majority of cases a lot better.

When we moved house we sold our wardrobes. One of the wife’s work colleagues bought them off us and hired a (wo)man with a van to collect them. She turned up to ours with what I assumed is her younger brother, absolutely stinking of beer and her nose twitching like fuck. They broke the wardrobes in transit.
Anyway, there she was front and centre of quite a few videos in Sunderland the other night. Front door promptly kicked in yesterday morning.
Somewhat ironic in that probably not Norwich but the rest of the county is probably one of the most openly racist places in the country.
On the racism thing across Europe I think there are different issues around it. A lot of people from east of the old iron curtain are massively racist. The Eastern European woman who works in our office for example could think of nothing worse in her life than her son coming home with a black woman when he’s 18. I don’t think that the majority of the UK(England) is racist in that way anymore.
But there is a significant amount of the country who blame everything that goes wrong on foreigners and cannot differentiate that nearly 90% of those foreigners are allowed into the country by the visa rules of the government. You asked the average person on the street and I would guarantee they would think the number of people coming over on boats is a far higher proportion of immigrants than it is.
Because that's what they've been told.

A poll done at the beginning of the year showed that, not only did nine out of ten constituencies want lower immigration, but that people massively underestimates the amount of immigrants coming in even by legal routes. The average person thought that net migration was 70000, which is about ten per cent of the actual numbers. I think people tend to have no idea of the scale and cost of it.
Truth is, even having actual numbers, it is hard to picture just how big/small of an impact it might have.
What's the scale and cost of it then?
Like everything else in the world, there are pro's and cons to immigration, but the simple fact is that we NEED it. People aren't having enough kids and the sheer weight of all the Boomers becoming pensioners would be impossible for the native population to support.
Over the next 20 years our biggest age cohort (50 - 60 year olds) will retire. Most of them without adequate private pensions, and our current children (the smallest cohort until you get over 65) will be expected to replace them and that's quite simply not happening without immigration to top the numbers up.
So yeah, like it or lump it. Immigration is going to continue and will likely increase further. It's that or outright poverty.
