She's stood next to someone who looks like they've been shrunk in the wash.....but you're probably right.

PR (like almost any kind of consultancy or design work, sorry phonics) is one of those fields in which you just make up a number you would like to be paid and ask for that.

In my case you look at how many hours you've worked and times it my 30.

I'm not trying to be controversial but this is a bit bollocks.

First woman on the front line.

I mean, its great you're accepted as one but... to be a statistic for doing this very thing ... is fucking daft. I dunno, at some point I'm arguing semantics and I'm surprised no women have been on the front-line til now. I mean, women have served in the forces for decades.

Vietnam corruption and incompetence in a nutshell. Guy in a car with government plates driving down the wrong side of a main road, apparently half-cut, and the copper (in beige) is telling other people to calm down and waving oncoming vehicles out of the way...

Maggie Smith won an Emmy last night, in 2016.

She was first nominated for a BAFTA in 1958, and won an Oscar in 1969.

    Cracking career longevity.

Angela Lansbury was similar, although her bookends weren't wins. Nominated for an Oscar in 1945 and an Emmy in 2005.

We had a thread on the old board about actors who'd had preposterously long careers, or who'd kept working until a ridiculous age, and I think Eli Wallach and Betty White were the winners.

He's something of an anomaly in that he was doing stage work before he was two and went on to actually have a career in acting, but he isn't miles ahead of everyone by any metric. Hitler's favourite actor worked from the early twenties until he died this decade.

On a self-recorded YouTube video,[8] CJ claims to have had a highly abusive childhood, causing him to run away from home shortly after his seventeenth birthday and become homeless beginning in Rotherham and Sheffield. The video described how he travelled to London, jumped on a ferry to Amsterdam and later moved on to Cologne, where a chance encounter outside a gay bar led to the beginnings of his modelling career. De Mooi said that in 1988 he may have killed a man who was attempting to mug him by punching and throwing him into a canal in Amsterdam.[9]
    Alright, then. This definitely happened.

It's hard to see what the way forward there is, really. Further concessions from FARC and re-running the referendum, or literally having to carpet bomb the jungles and flood them with troops in a 10-1 ratio to try and annihilate them militarily.

I wonder how a similar vote would have gone here at different periods. There might have been polling done over the years, but I bet we would have voted likewise at least into the late-nineties.

When they had a referendum on the Good Friday Agreement here, it was a landslide 'Yes' vote. There was a small hardcore on the republican side who considered it a sell-out, and a somewhat larger minority on the unionist side who weren't having anything to do with "Sinn Fein IRA" - but most people just wanted the fucking thing to be over with.

We let out the prisoners as well, but there's nobody today - who should be taken seriously, anyway - who can say we'd have been better off if the GFA had been rejected.

For all the shite this place gets, the peace process here is probably as good a benchmark as any of how to deal with these things.

The south had to have a separate referendum to amend their constitution, in effect recognising the right of self-determination for the north and not claiming jurisdiction over 'the six counties'. That got about 94% of the vote, so presumably the only people who voted against it were Gerry Adams' mates and a few embittered Irish speakers in the Gaeltacht.

The yes vote in Colombia was concentrated in the areas with violence, apparently. It was the areas less affected which voted no - I suppose it's easy to be militant when you're not affected by it.

If you'd run it across the whole UK, turnout probably wouldn't have been that high. Would that many people really have cared? It probably would have been voted down through a coalition of white nationalist skinheads who would want the IRA summarily executed and hard left IRA sympathisers who would reject any deal not ending the "British imperial presence".

It's probably a good job it didn't go to an all UK vote, because fuck that.

In the 70s, 80s and 90s, everyone cared about the IRA. In my early childhood I remember it constantly being the biggest news topic, along with the Balkan wars.

By '98 it would have been voted through on a tide of Blairism though.

Your early childhood was the early nineties, when it was moving towards the ceasefire, it's initial breaking (bombing of Canary Wharf) it's re-establishment and then the GFA. It was definitely prevalent as a result, but probably not at the forefront of the national consciousness in the preceding years - outside the major incidents.

There were a number of high profile incidents, like the mortar attack on Downing Street and the Brighton bombing - but I'm far from convinced it was a sufficiently prevalent issue in "GB" that most would have been overly fussed about some peace deal going to a referendum. Quite a lot of people over there don't realise we're even in the UK, for fuck sake.

Interesting fact of the day, I was born in Londonderry due to my father being in the British Army in '82, and I was also in Manchester (well, Stockport) on the day of the Arndale bombing. Survived both.

My aunt left one of the pubs, that got bombed by the IRA in Birmingham in the 70s, about 20 minutes before it went off after an argument with her boyfriend.

It was very much at the forefront of current affairs coverage throughout most of the 90's, the later you get the more emphasis there was on the peace process but it never went away. Anyone even vaguely informed on domestic issues would have been well aware of it.

That cycling story is so dumb. Pissed, taking selfies with no helmet or lights cycling along a London street. !00% guarantee if she had a helmet on she wouldn't have croaked.

I reckon 60% of cycling accidents are idiots doing similar things or cycling like twats.

Howard Gayle said that the honour - Member of the Order of the British Empire - should have its name altered so that there is no reference to "Empire".

Obviously had to be a Liverpool player.

Member of the Order Seeking Justice for the 96.
