I'm genuinely devastated by this news. He makes being in the car all day so much more tolerable. Like this really REALLY sucks.

In other news: Optometrist who missed swelling in boy's brain guilty of manslaughter. Not really sure what to think of this.

    Oxford United Director found dead

Further tributes have been paid to Mr Taylor, thought to be in his 60s, on Twitter.
The fact nobody seems to know his age is the thing I find weird.

Some twat has gone into a shop and left the handbrake off on his fucking bus, letting it take off rudderless down a fairly busy street in Glasgow. Apparently it hit nothing but cars and other buses, but what a mess that could have been.

Seems like the right wing resurgence isn't merely a phenomenon confined to the West:

    http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...ns-new-fascism

"In 2013, at a Nippon Kaigi party celebrating Shinzo Abe’s new appointments to his cabinet — 15 of whose 18 members were Nippon Kaigi-niks — the old imperial “Rising Sun” flag was flown, pledges to “break away from the postwar regime” were made, and the (very short and controversial) imperial national anthem was sung."

James Craig grabbed his victim by the hair, pulled her to the floor and then punched her on the head. He then savagely stamped on her arm, leaving her writhing in pain from a fractured and dislocated elbow.

    -------

He extended his “sincere apologies” to his victim and claimed his actions had been “out of character” – a previous conviction for assault aside.

Found out today this is dad, mother and sister of a guy from my work.

Apparently he was home at the weekend too. Terrifying.

They seem to have completely invented those 'fuming' Rangers fans, which is funnier than an Apple product being wrong or Celtic fans being obsessive nutters.

There are still plenty of Rangers fans furious that we were liquidated based primarily on the expected result of a court case which we ultimately won, but nobody will be arsed over Siri getting the date wrong. They don't even have a quote from Facebook or Twitter to back up their headline, that's how poor it is.

Incidentally I'm the least furious Rangers fan you're likely to meet when it comes to that stuff. I advocated early and often for just taking the relegation on the chin and working our way back up.

    Genuinely stunned at that.

Firstly that they were still making them and secondly that 750,000 units were sold last year. Who the fuck was buying them?

You people clearly don't have kids. It is people with home videos who don't have the time to move everything to another medium when you can buy a cheap vcr.

I'd imagine there's plenty of places where they have back catalogues of tapes they still want to watch.

As a counterpoint I only realised very recently that my PC doesn't actually have a disc drive of any kind.

The footage will be from the 80's to the 00's. Digital camcorders used tape for well into the 00's. How many people still have the camcorder that played it?

USB ports obviously, but nothing else, I have no use for them. I'd evidently forgotten that I didn't spec this one with a disc drive.

Indeed, and it's been nearly a year since I got this and Friday was the first time I even considered it. As it happened it probably took less time to download a copy of what I wanted to watch than it would have done to go upstairs and dig through the box of dvds that I haven't unpacked since I moved. There should be a drive on the older PC actually, which is on the same network but I haven't set up a proper separate monitor for that yet and running it through my second screen is annoying so bollocks to that.

What times we live in, where I don't consider two monitors to be quite enough.

It may be obtuse of me to point out that Geldof on the Thames with a boat full of lounge-suited media twonks did almost more to swing ‘Average Joe’ Britain towards voting Brexit than Eddie Izzard’s Question Time ‘cerise beret and statement lip’ combo.

It does demonstrate quite aptly the problem with some aspects of the metropolitan liberal world view.

Those two are obviously extreme examples, but there's a streak of self-righteousness that is really quite unpalatable.
