    Speaking of scams:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ist-abuse.html

Australians know this sort of thing is balls don't they? I know they're not allowed to say so, but he's at best a quarter indigenous (which would make Ryan Giggs black), and didn't grow up around it all other than day tripping to cultural things, so by what standard is he really?

What do proper aboriginals - at least half, and who obviously look like aboriginals - think of these cases? From what I can gather you obtain your aboriginal status by saying you are and having the 'community' accept you; but that seems like it would incentivise them accepting anyone who talks the talk, especially high profile people.

Less than a month ago they were beating the shit out of the city populace.

9/11 responders were 90% firefighters and the cops union have spent years making sure that they get any money Firefighters do to pay for the cancer treatment caused by all the asbestos they inhaled in that time.

They literally had to get it named after a cop to get it through as no-one listened to the Firefighters union.

Read up on the James Zadroga act of 2010 and the efforts to get it enacted after it expired in 2015. Sorry that you're uninformed.

The NYPD having a terrible reputation isn't really being controversial. You could literally have watched the news in the last 8 weeks and watched them beating people and abusing power. I know some people welcome lurching into authoritarianism but it's not everyone's idea of fun.

I know not many places have the advantage of mountains creating the need for Dams but how is Switzerland at 75% renewable energy while France/US/UK are between 15 - 30.

There's an easy answer for this. Namely, Britain is a big lump of coal. We take the easiest option. Switzerland can attract the renewables with tax breaks.

Plus there's probably some British stubbornness in there. We don't pivot with any grace.

The children and grand children of the stolen generation is the main reason this comes up a lot. Aboriginal people are quite inclusive to white people who have aboriginal blood and/or who grew up in the culture.

Attract the renewables? What does that mean, do natural resources emigrate?

    I'd generally agree with this.

Hydro is really the main renewable source in history so far, with wind and solar making a dent recently. Some countries have the right terrain and rainfall to make hydro work easily (NZ to be 100% renewable by 2030). Other countries are not so lucky, and have to use political willpower to make it happen.

Pringles are some of the worst crisps going.

Also that article calls them tubes rather than pipes, so it’s safe to completely disregard.

It's more than just knowing about where the local tribe - but not you - live and what they paint. If it isn't, and day-tripping in and out of it from an otherwise comfortable white existence passes, then it's effectively meaningless because you're deriving all of the perceived benefits of the experience without actually living it.

You hear 'mixed heritage' occasionally now instead of mixed race, but that seems to intrinsically link race and culture in quite a weird way that the social workers can't have thought through properly.

Sure, but who are we on the outside to judge where to draw that line?

Which is fine if you don't identify with that culture. But there will certainly be many cases where your skin colour doesn't necessarily match the stereotypical culture you are brought up in. Imagine if you did grow up in the black community and an outsider came over and told you your skin wasn't dark enough and your whole upbringing doesn't count. It is surely up to that community to decide on those matters.

It’s almost like trying to encompass someone’s individual identity in a world where you’re less than a day from the other side of of the planet is a completely futile goal.
