    Over the ear. Sub-$100 ideally.

A music techy friend said that you don't need to spend more than ~£40 if you're simply listening. If you pay silly money, you're just paying for the brand.

As far as actual headphones go, I don't know, but Sennheiser are good.

EDIT: Didn't look at that properly, seems they aren't very available on US amazon. I'll find some others, sorry.

EDIT2: Cheap headphones are more expensive in the US....

    https://www.amazon.com/Superlux-HD66...emini+HSR-1000

    https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRV6-St...emini+HSR-1000

Those are both good for the price.

I have these which have done me well for ages. Sennheiser HD202s are a very good cheaper option as well.

So are the couple I've linked too big or OK?

I've had both of them and they are great.

I have these (in black) and they've lasted 3 years and been nice and comfortable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I generally consult: http://thesweethome.com or http://thewirecutter.com for purchases. What Hi-fi for music-related stuff.

Reasonable Sennheisers or entry-level Audio Technica's can be procured for less than $100. Ignore pretty much everything else.

I'm no audiophile and laugh at FLAC nerds, but I'm always amazed by people being able to listen to music with totally shit equipment. One of my best mates has an incredible knowledge and vast collection of music, and he's constantly recommending me good stuff.

I went to his flat and the second he put a record on it was obvious that one of the audio channels was completely fucked. 'mate pretty sure your speakers are fucked, there's meant to be guitar in this song'. He didn't really believe me, and said 'they're good speakers, i've had them for months and they've always been great you're just being a twat'. Eventually persuaded him to fiddle around with wires and fixed what I presume had been fucked since he bought them.

He seemed a bit bemused by it, like I was being a snob or something, when half of all the fucking songs he'd listen to on his record player were barely audible. Mental.

Sorry, er, went off on a bit of a tangent there. Get some Sennheisers or something.

Those ones I've linked are recommended by all the wanky 'audiophile' forums.

I spent fucking ages researching before I bought them. I do it for everything, it's an illness.

Looking for some now myself. Ideally Bluetooth and noise cancelling and in the £150 to £200 bracket. Backup use with a cable would be nice too.

Had been looking at these and basically if I could get around the same features but better noise cancelling for extra money it'd be ideal.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01JLIY9LM/

Also, anyone know what Samsung LevelOn are like?

I'm being completely serious here but I don't understand how someone can walk down the street with the big headphones. I get they must be much better than in ear headphones but they look silly when not behind a desk scratching records.

Nope, but the only time I've thought noise cancelling would be useful is when on a plane, and even then I'm not bothered.

I rarely use them for walking to places. If I'm travelling somewhere and have a big bag with me, then I'll take them because they're far comfier and the quality is impeccable. You can get great earphones on Amazon for £5-£10 so it would seem stupid to carry big headphones around with you all the time.

I had a pair of £7.99 Seinhesseirs and they did me, about 300000% better than earphones. Can't see how ones at double the price, triple, quadruple or whatever can be that times as good.

It should be pointed out that the best headphones will allow you to hear songs how they were intended to be heard. If you want heavier bass, don't buy bass boosting headphones, listen to bass heavy music.

Never bought the above after but I'm thinking of getting a set of the AKG Y50BT, they're around €120. Anything better out there at the money?

Never even thought of looking at that market, but it stands to reason when most other electronics have very good options from there.

I picked up a pair of Beats X recently and they're really quite good.

They're in-ear wireless ones rather than over ear though.

Xiaomi are meant to be pretty good. They had some in ear ones that were highly recommended as a budget option that I bought a while back. They were good but they broke quite quickly. But then that's probably just my fault for chucking them in coat pockets full of other crap and generally not looking after them properly.

Also, I did buy those Philips ones and they're good. Or at least I think so. But I'm not a huge audiophile anyway.

I have some V-moda Crossfade which are great, I've gone back to using them over a pair of (admittedly also good) Beyerdynamics even though they're all beat up and worn. Can't recommend them enough.

They were on my shortlist but I wasn't super keen on the AKG branding on them. Sounds like a good deal though

I'd seen another pair that had a bright red AKG on white on the outside of the cup bits. Not that I'd ever wear over-ear ones outside the house, but I wouldn't even wear these in private they look so ridiculous. These have the branding gloss black on matte black so it's not too bad.

I got these for my birthday last week as a cheap intro to wireless pair of headphones.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01JLIY9..._CVK0zb3CYH1PZ

Don’t have any comparison but really enjoying them so far. As Raoul said, can’t see me going back to wired now. So handy.

I've those myself, they're good and very handy in that they'll work wired if you run out of battery. Noise cancellation isn't wonderful but can't be expected at the price.

I’d probably need a better pair to compare it with seeing as this is my first, but found the noise cancelling decent enough for the price like you say.

I can still hear the TV over them if I'm listening to something other than music but they were good at blocking out plane drone, which is about the only thing I really want noise cancelling ones for anyway. Overall the sound isn't a massive pile behind the AKG ones I bought the other week, they really are good value.

Anyone found any decent in-ear bluetooth ones? I'm not convinced by the Apple ones - think they'd look far better in black.

On the lookout for these myself too as I keep getting told to take the over ear ones off on flights.

Looking at the Sennheiser Momentum Free or the Jaybird X3's. Anyone experience of either? Don't want a set with that horseshoe thing around your neck or a set that aren't joined together by a wire.

After always getting ~£15-30 highly rated ones on amazon and them always being quite good, I got an £8 pair from asda out of desperation (I'm a bit of a fanny about it, having podcasts playing through in-ear headphones is ingrained into my sleep routine, now) and they're absolutely fine. Either quality is improving or I got lucky because I always remember cheap supermarket headphones sounding universally shite.

What podcast do you listen too to go to sleep?
