Could someone post the TTH league code please? Are we doing the draft one this year?
I'm currently looking at something like:
Pickford, 4.0 goalie; Azpilicueta, Alexander-Arnold, Daniels, Tomkins, Bednarek; Salah, De Bruyne, Jota, Wilshere, Stephens; Lukaku, Firmino, Zaha
but I'm sure this will change about 10000 times before the season starts.

If anyone spots any lowest price bargains share the wealth. Someone recommended Hegazi last season which was a great shout. I doubt we’ll ever get Michu value ever again though.
Salah is still a midfielder, but he’s 13.5. :eek:

I'm struggling with forwards. All of the bankers (well, most) have gone far into the World Cup and so I am not sure how (or if) they are going to start the season - plus there's the fact that Harry Kane is traditionally a write off until after the first round of interationals. Too many attackers are listed as midfielders (Mané, Salah, Sanchez). Naby Keita is going to don this though.

I am really struggling this year, defence looks easy enough but the midfielders and forwards are a nightmare. I think im worrying too much about playere getting back late from the world cup.
There are plenty of options in defence and in goal. I've gone for Pickford based on fixtures but want Leno in there at some point. Daniels/Tomkins are essential unless Bournemouth sign another left back. Midfield is okay, plenty of options in the 6.5 - 7.5 range to put in the squad with Salah. I agree that the forwards are a nightmare, I think Aguero will start the season for Manchester City and Zaha/Arnautovic are good options but I'm stuck for the last premium striker slot.
I think you have to have Firmino, he's still quite decent value. Salah really ought to be a forward.
I reckon Clyne might start the season for Liverpool so he could be worth a look as a reasonably cheap 'top 6' defender. Liverpool's fixtures are quite kind at the start as well and they now have a non-idiot in goal so clean sheets are a definite possibility. Gomez is £5m too, so he could be another option as he could start either on the right or in the middle with Lovren and Alexander-Arnold out for the first few gameweeks.
My problem is I really don't know anything about 95% of the players and really how teams that aren't Liverpool are likely to start the season.
Sane and Sanchez have to be good value to start the season well though.

I am thinking at the moment going 352 with 3 solid defenders, 5 attacking midfielders and then a couple of cheaper strikers (Austin, Tosun, Wood, Aurnautovic etc) and avoid an premium attackers.
Will go with Sanchez and Salah in midfield so if someone like Aguero or Kane starts well it's an easy swap with a couple of moves.
What's with Fulhams squad. It has like 4 players in it.

He's obviously mad expensive, but he's also a far better proposition than almost any other 9m+ player. Everyone else comes with a caveat or two.
Salah is the best captain option for gameweek 1 and also the highest owned player. If he doesnt start the season well you can downgrade him to literally any other midfielder.

I've made a draft league if anyone is interested: 69876-19546. I've set the draft date for next weekend but I can edit it to whenever.
Joined the draft league. We should try for the max of 16 (is that what it was last year?) - albeit with less inactives.
Last draft was something like 9am on a Saturday morning (thanks Vietnam) - can we avoid that? 9pm UK time would be my choice.
Can we do the draft as close to the games as possible?

Yeah, it does it for you if you want. I'd also vote for 9pm on a weeknight - what is it set to at the moment 8pm on a Saturday or Sunday? Sunday would probably be better if it has to be a weekend.

Where are all the strikers these days? I might take a punt on Jesus, Vardy and that Arsenal lad from Dortmund. Hardy Kane seems to be chosen a lot but I have doubts about Tottenhams ability to threaten the top four this season.

Salah is going one of two ways, either you have to have him, or he will be an early season slug and cripple everyone who has him.
I really feel like you can’t justify 6.0 for a goalkeeper.
I was holding off on Salah (in favour of a Mané/Sanchez combination) but I think you have to have him, depending on how he looks in pre-season.
Not going near Kane until after the first round of internationals, mind.
I think there's a clear value striker in the game as it stands. Mind you I had the same guy a lot of last year and he loves a sneaky cold streak.
Experimented a bit with taking Salah out now and it really opens up for doing stuff with the squad.
I'm not going with Salah, I think the price just inhibits the rest of the team too much.
For the draft league - can we move the draft closer to the transfer deadline?

Mané, Firmino and Salah will start up front for Liverpool, unless one of them is injured.

I'm stuck between two extremes at the moment. Either something like Sanchez/Eriksen/Aguero and no Liverpool players at all (preferred for jinxing reasons) or just going with Liverpool's front three (probably preferred in terms of doing well) for a million more.
I've got three each from Liverpool and City and only two from the rest of the big sides. Just feels like a far lesser flop risk.

City worry me with their options in midfield and attack. I've done some egregious things to shoehorn Sané and Aguero in alongside my Liverpool trio and am fearful of rotation. At least with Liverpool I'm fairly certain those three attackers are going to play most weeks. Mané being ostensibly on penalties has made me much less inclined to leave him out as well, which leaves much less wriggle room (I had considered Keita instead of him as I reckon he's going to be good/productive in fantasy terms).
Knowing a £5m pleb striker who is going to actually play would be nice. Currently backing Zohore on little to know actual knowledge. Andone at Brighton is possibly another one, but they're overloaded with (wank) forwards so who knows.

I share your worry @niko_cee but in the end opted for going with only Aguero from City instead, as Jesus played a lot in the WC. I'm fairly certain Sane will start as well, but I don't know how City will line up at all in the end in midfield so just gonna stay clear for the first round at least.
Still only 9 teams in the draft and no sign of last season's winner (Sama?). I'm so going to forget the draft and tinkering with the watchlist is so dull I just can't face it.

Why is that? Southampton were woeful last season and their team hasn't changed much has it? Is anyone actually expecting some clean sheets or is it just the cheapest option?

I've gone all in on the Brighton defence (Dunk, Duffy and Bernardo). Not sure how often I'll field all three, but they're a solid side and those guys are almost nailed on to start every game (the first two will unless injured). Both the centre-halves should really be improving on their goals : own goals ratio this season (1:4 last year I think :cab:).

Masuaku was good value last year cos he was a defender but I don’t see him being worthwhile this time.

I’m happy with my team although that will probably change when the actual games start and my team turns out to be a collective of utter utter thundercunts. Was somehow easier to choose players now that half of the good ones are likely to start the season slow. Sanchez as captain will most definitely be something I regret before Saturday, but there aren’t really that many good choices.
I don’t have Hazard (yet) but I feel he’s going to have a great year.

That draft was good fun though. How does picking up the rest work? Is it first come first served?
Some will be complete free agents but the majority will be waivers.
So you put in a claim and the person with the highest waiver claim (who applied for the player) gets the player.
I think it runs on a semi-draft basis off the league standings - ie last placed gets first pick if they want it for each week's waiver/draft thing. You can propose transactions to sign free players. I don't know how that works now. No one picked up D. Studge? I have no idea how trades work.
Trades were the reason I joined this year. That should be good.

I've been on the run of my life in this since the end of October. Placed about 502,000 now, never known the like. Pity about the shocking start largely caused by Salah not turning up.
I was doing okay until November. I was absolutely abysmal during December and went from 3rd to 9th in one of my private leagues, and I'm about 200 off the top now. I've had another shocking week unless Sterling does something magical tonight.
I've also hit unprecedented heights this season, but the guy in my mini-league that I really want to beat is 700th in the world. Fucker.

The Kane thing is a bit shit for me in this too as I used the January wildcard last round and had to take a four point hit as upgrading Sema to Sterling seemed like it would be worth it. I’m fully expecting him to be benched now.
I took a 4 point hit for the second time this season to get rid of both Kane and TAA.
Got Firmino and Lindelöf in. I still can't make space for Salah in my team and by now I'm starting to feel a bit convinced to go through the season without him for the sake of it.
I have 3m in the bank now so can upgrade either Perreyra or Richarlison next round, but honestly it sort of feels like there are no obvious options. I'm staying clear of Arsenal players, and City players just get rotated so much.
Though B. Silva seems like a pretty tasty option.
I only got Salah back in recently and haven't had either Kane or Aguero all season. Forwards in general I've had value options all the way through. It's midfield where you need to spend the money.
I've had Raúl Jiménez all season, and my first born shall take his name.
Midfield feels like a bit of a lottery at the moment. I've had Salah, Sterling and Alli for a while, but it's really hard to know if they're any better than a lot of the other similarly priced options. Feels like my lot having a bad couple of weeks and Hazard/Pogba hitting form, or vice versa, is a huge swing.
Think I’m going to play my bench boost today. Can’t fit Rudiger, Puncheon, wan Bissaka and McCarthy in and they all have decent matches.
Real captain quandary between Auba, Salah and Poggers tonight. Gone for the latter as I don't think Burnley will bother, and Liverpool are due a disaster.
I've got 8 minutes to decide between Pogba, Rashford and Salah.
I went with Salah. Could have easily been Auba but just feel Salah is safer.
Ignored United as I have three of their attackers and captaining one would be overkill.
I ended up going for Salah. Digne on the bench has got me seething my tits off.

I used my Free Hit to get a bunch of City players in. Captaining Aguero has made up for the fact that I left both Pogba and Hazard out in this swap.
Getting Sane in was a mistake (unless he does something amazing on Tuesday).
I imagine Aguero won't start later in the week either.

Probably averages out to a few hours on it each week. There are a lot of parallels to football betting. You have a load of data, and through some process you decide which bits are relevant in order to come to the optimal output. Very easy to spend large amounts of time arguing either side of the argument (player a vs player b).
I've definitely had the rub of the green at times. Triple captain Salah was a last minute decision at the weekend and got me 57 points, most seasons something like that ends up returning single digits.
I'm interested to see how repeatable it is next season, though I'm not sure I can be arsed putting this much effort in again.
I completely wasted my 3 cards this year. It's definitely cost me.

I'm reasonably happy with it, though the Locadia punt has really not worked out. Thankfully Che Adams has dropped in price so I'll probably get him in next week. Going Diego Rico over John Lundstram (who is now 0.1 more expensive) really was a miserable choice, otherwise that would be an easy straight swap.
I think there will have been a lot of wildcards and -4s taken this week, so hopefully doing neither will put me in a decent position. I'm not sure I buy the Pukki hype, but he could definitely be my downfall.
I went -4 to get Pukki in as I reckon his price is going to keep going up.
I don't think that sort of thing is worth it. Points > team value, and Norwich have two of the top six in their next three games.

My general strategy in FPL is just "never get an arsenal players and always bet against Arsenal" so if I don't captain Salah, he will score 3 goals against Arsenal.

Without me looking too hard, what's the wildcard business and why are a lot of you using them now?
I really need to make some big changes in mine. I'm absolutely seething that I took out Aguero and left in Kane. I assumed Aguero's tantrum coupled by Jesus's goal meant he would have spent a few games on the bench but alas, he starts, he scores and I'm left with John Merrick upfront.
My reasons for using the wildcard were very simple - I wanted to make lots of changes to my team. I had 3 or 4 players doing next to nothing and felt having two Liverpool defenders was no longer viable (I was actually wrong on this). Now I have a team with Aguero, Sterling, De Bruyne and Salah and hope to benefit hugely from this. Fingers crossed none of them get injured on international week!! I made a whole host of changes now but I think those with Salah and De Bruyne are stopping me from rising any further. I need a couple of good weeks to get into the thick of it, I think. Next season I'll pay even more attention though as my poor start really screwed me.
The cup really doesn’t add much in my opinion. It’s pretty much just down to luck as you can score anything and go through or out. At least in the league you can look for differentials to gain points on your rivals.
I guess it adds a little bit of interest for those who have had a poor start. Someone in one of my other leagues scored 92 last week and got knocked out!:cab:Quote:

All those sites are wank. Look at James’ performance compared to my strategy of ‘pick players/teams you think are good’ strategy.
I started off that way, just stuck the players I thought were decent but then I started paying attention to the fixtures for the following week but when I look at other clubs they just seem loaded with top drawer players. I didn't even know the values go up on players or that some weeks are double week points.
It just seems pointless putting in time and effort when I don't even know the rules properly. Is there not a site that gives you a general idea of when these things occur? I'm really annoyed at the last error as I put some serious thought behind my team this week and now it's going to revert back to the one I had prior to that.

A blank week is a week when a team doesn't play. So this gameweek Liverpool and West Ham didnt play.
When that game gets rearranged they will play twice in a game week which is a double week.
At the end of the season you have a few busy game weeks with 15+ matches and a few quiet game weeks with 5-8 matches. Need to be on top of the blank weeks asap.
OK. So I used my free hit and took out the Liverpool players as weren't playing this week believing a few players would forget to do that so the week we play West Ham, I'l get double points for the Liverpool players as the rest of the teams on that particular week have already played that extra game. Is that right or am I being a simpleton? I've rejoined now but it's quite confusing to a complete novice.
I mentioned the other week that this is the first ever time I've gone past the first/second week before forgetting I even registered. If I knew now what I didn't know at the beginning of the season for example I would have loaded up with a few promoted teams purely because they tend to put the cat amongst the pigeons. IE, Sheff United. Every point seems to matter.
Is it worth planning more than a week in advance? I noticed I get two free transfers every two weeks, so should I be assessing clubs fixtures and getting in early on those players or do as I have been the last couple of weeks and just changing my team to those I think will play against the weaker opposition.
My thinking this week was De Gea as I expected a clean sheet against Watford for example. Most of my team this week did OK, 6 points for defenders (Burnley, Sheff United clean sheets), stuck in Jimenez as they were against Norwich and brought in Jesus as I anticipated Man City winning. I just want to make sure I'm doing it right is all otherwise what's the point.
You'll get the points for players who play in the gameweek, so you'll get them for Liverpool players if you still have them.
The freehit is vitally important for the FA Cup clusterfuck weeks and/or the double gameweeks at the end of the season - although if it's a double and you use your freehit then you can't also triple captain.
The second half season wildcard (does that still exist?) also has to be used more judiciously with the above in mind.
And, after all the thought in the world, your team might still end up shit.

Also decided I’m not arsed about my mates doing another draft league. Drafts are shite, nobody ever pays attention to them beyond picking their squad, and it’s too much effort arranging everyone to be in the pub/online at the same time. So if TTH did a paid league it’d be your bog standard league type and certainly not head to head.

Finished on 2267, real poor last few weeks and got stung by the lockdown and holding back on my chips but top 100K finish so respectable.
I completely gave up after I realised saving the wildcard was rendered pointless by project restart and that failing to play the bench boost in that first gameweek back was fairly game breaking.
I dropped out earlier than ever this season but a paid league would interest me.
I'm not sure it should be winner take all though.
Winner gets 70%, second gets 20% and third gets 10% or something.

Having a wildcard after lockdown was a huge advantage. Meant you could build a bench boost team for that first game week after lockdown where City and Arsenal had double game weeks, and then wildcard immediately to set up for the rest of the seasonQuote:

They should never have allowed unlimited transfers prior to the restart really. Rendered all my careful plotting/transfers through the nothing happening gameweeks to build a restart ready team, even if that probably only extended to bringing in a few injured players like Rashford when they were still technically crippled.
It was a mug's game this season with the lockdown nonsense. I'd saved my TC and had to waste it on first week back meaning BB was wasted completely on a bog-standard single GW. My wildcard was wasted to.

Have I missed something or doesn't he play literally through the middle as a centre forward?
As a midfielder he'd have to be in everyone's XI, making it a ten man game.
It's stupid but understandable, he spent most of last season as a wide forward similar to Salah, Mane Rashford etc.Quote:

I've thought for a while they could do with a wide forward category as well as defensive midfield. I guess things like thay takes away from the simplicity of it all.
With Salah, Mane and Auba as 12.0m midfielders, I reckon almost everyone will have KDB at 11.5m.
Saka is the best value at 5.5 that I’ve found so far. Maybe the keeper too assuming he doesn’t get dropped.
Saka is good value until you consider Arteta wasn't using him a lot at the end of last season, and that might be the same again now.
Neither of the Manchesters playing in week 1, and then having fairly decent fixtures feels like immediate wildcarding is going to be almost mandatory unless you want to take a big hit/chance it in the first week.
