Been watching a lot of Restricted Isle's spectator spot videos on youtube. It's a good resource for anybody looking to view around the island. On the bad side, I got ill from watching 30 minute's worth of his dash cam. I hope that doesn't translate when I decide to get an actual bike.
That's the most dodgy thing about road racing, really. It's rally rules when it comes to spectator areas. And some spectators are complete knobs. Especially the ones that moan about restrictions. Ramsey hairpin's off limits because a sidecar went rogue last year and sometimes they restrict because they don't want to stretch stewards and police too thin.

First fatality of this year's festival. Finished 3rd in last year's Superstock race and previously raced in 2011's British Superbikes. Steve Mercer is reportedly the other rider who struck the course car. Hope he pulls through.

Okay, I think Dunlop's just put Harrison properly in his place there. Three races, three lap records. Also, Jodie Kidd is terrible on ITV4's coverage. She has no business being there when Matt Roberts is on the case. It's made worse by her being a foot taller than them.

Me again. Checking out the 2019 MotoGP teams. I really would love to see Lorenzo get at Marquez. KTM are a factory team now with Tech3 backing their sister team. Going to be weird not seeing Tech3 liveries on a Yamaha. Joan Mir's wound up at Suzuki so we'll see how he gets on. I kinda miss the days of youngsters being plonked straight on a top bike. Franco Morbidelli steps up as well to a satellite Yamaha. I've got high hopes for Mir and Morbidelli but then I have Vinales down as world champion before Marquez. I know nowt.
I was wondering where Bradley Smith wound up. Thankfully, he's on the MotoE grid along with Sete Gibernau. Those of you might remember he's still cursed from when Valentino punted him off at Jerez almost 20 years ago. It's a grid of old hats, really. Randy De Puniet, Mike de Meglio and Alex De Angelis all coming out of whatever retirement is for those guys. They all start in May.

It begins. Not bothering with torrents this time around as waiting a week in arrears is a bit too much for me. Terribly edited youtube highlights will get me by. Qatar caught up. I can't believe how nose-to-tail that was from the big boys. Rins looks handy on that Suzuki but I don't tend to read much in Qatar. Everyone's kinda cold, usually. Crutchlow and Mir went well.
Just watched Qatar. Brilliant race throughout. Nice to see Suzuki being competitive (I haven't followed the past ~8 years or so). Good performance from Crutchlow and Rossi aswell.
The only thing that annoys me so far is how someone gave Fenati another chance. And the commentators seem to be fawning over him in a 'I know he's not a popular figure but ...' I was genuinely chuffed when he buggered himself in the race.

In my head, there's always been dominance in SBK but Johnny's the only person to win the title 3 years on the bounce.
I was a bit surprised to see Bautista on the grid then not very surprised when he was off the front in every race.
Also, on MotoGP (thanks Pepe, I spent all of yesterday binging on stuff from that website), how come George Laurence was pootling around at the back? Did he snap his ankles leaping into Pedrosa's grave or has he decided he can't drive the bike (much like he did at Ducati)?
He qualified badly and then ... stayed. No idea what's happened there. He was all over the place at Ducati.
Was he not injured?

What's the deal with Lorenzo?
He hit the pit limiter at the start of the race and had to scrap from the back. Still, he's the first rider I've seen really struggle on that Honda.
Last race he was way back too.
I wondered the same thing and apparently he's been messing fairly seriously with the geometry of the bike in an effort to get it working the way he likes. The team are supposedly giving him a few races to get it right after which they want to go back to setting it up the way they think it should work and he'd have to adapt his riding style.
Seems to be working great so far.
7/7 for Bautista, he's utterly humiliating the rest of the field.

I think Lorenzo might actually be dead, reverted to the normal setup of the bike and was still miles off the pace this weekend. Give the ride to Crutchlow or whoever the next 8 year old Spaniard is and be one with it.

Shame about the Frenchman, he was good for a podium.
The only reason they'd drop him is if they really wanted the constructors title. Ducati are the only ones close to sneaking that as everyone else just has one competitive rider. The ship's well and truly sailed on Vinales. :(

Aye, pleased for the guy. And the TT finished with just the one fatality, making it the safest event since 2012. Amazing when you consider the practice sessions being fogged off and rescheduled.

He looked like he was trying to force a performance out of the bike. Y'know, I've been thinking about how much Pedrosa dropped off in the last couple of years. Has Marquez's years on that bike created something nobody else can ride?
Pedrosa got gubbed just as hard by Tracy Moaner, and Crutchlow has three wins on the same bike so I'm not so sure about that.
Man, I loved Stoner's dominance on that Honda. 16 podiums and 12 poles from 17 races.

Man, I barely remember him featuring strongly in any race this year. I do hope that second Honda doesn't become a poisoned chalice. Pedrosa and Lorenzo have looked so bloody awful on it since Marquez got his mits on development. Crutchlow keeps falling of his and he does mention how tricky it is to ride now.

It's been bizarre to see the grid tighten up like that in the last couple of years.
The only downside is that Quartararo is the only one consistent enough to keep picking up points so he’ll probably win at a canter despite less than five wins. Ducati imploding seems odd.
Honda probably (or at least will eventually) have the best package but neither rider can stay out the gravel.
It's only 3 races in but everything about the standings screams consistently inconsistent. It'll be pot luck who wins unless someone can mastermind a run.

Suzuki gone from MotoGP at the end of the year, that's going to make the rider market even more mental with Rins and Mir thrown in.
Suzuki are tied in until 2026 so it will be interesting to see how they try to get out of it. KTM will probably enter another team in their place if Suzuki pay off Dorna.
Maybe, but they're also committed to just 6 independent/satellite teams so presumably they'd need to make a deal with them if they want to add a 7th. Pol Espargaro probably feeling rather uncomfortable tonight.
Yeah, Mir to Honda looks pretty likely now.
Apparently not being able to get a satellite team might have been one of Suzuki's reasons for pulling out, along with the factory making a massive loss (which can be combined into one really).

While I’m here, is anyone else watching MotoGP this season? Once again, it’s absolutely tremendous. Marquez being crippled has (maybe somewhat coincidentally) given birth to three years of unbelievable racing. Quartararo will run away with it though, he’s far too consistent for the rest of them.

Yeah, the post-Marquez years have been a bit iffy. Mainly because I don't have a favourite and the champion winds up being some 4-win Charlie who's been more consistent than the rest of them. Although it was really funny seeing Espargaro fail to count the laps off.

The GP scene is good but I find Moto 2/3 more interesting than the top class.
Moto3 is always fantastic chaos. Like last week, the brand new 16 year old barging his way past the title contenders en route to the podium. :D

Marquez taking time off for another surgery. Possibly him done for 2022. I can't see him coming back.
Is this in addition to the surgery he had a few weeks ago? I've not seen any chat on the usual channels about a second surgery.
Nah, it's that. I thought it was more recent because MotoGP are slow to put their race highlights up on youtube. :D Still, four surgeries in 18 months and a concussion is a bit rough. Honda want him back sharpish which probably tells its own story.
Puig (Honda team boss) is an arsehole. They need to cut him loose and hoover up the Suzuki staff.
