None of mine are particularly trendy.
Gavin Webber's cheese making channel.
Cracking the cryptic.
There is only one: https://youtube.com/channel/UC_3pplzbKMZsP5zBH_6SVJQ
Cracking the cryptic just makes me feel horribly inadequate.
Real civil engineer.
Wirtual.
Bit of explanation please gents.
I got into The Critical Drinker lately - https://www.youtube.com/c/TheCriticalDrinker
If you haven't heard of him he reviews and comments on movies. There's a bit too much whinging about STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS, but he does make some decent points in and outside of that.
Might be a novelty thing, I'll know in a month or so I'd imagine.
Gavin Webber's cheese making channel - man makes cheese
Cracking the cryptic - man does sudoku
Real civil engineer - man builds bridges
Wirtual - man talks about history of trackmania nations forever
You could link them too. What am I meant to do, go and search for them like some sort of neanderthal?
Body's YouTube channel - man searches for YouTube channels
I honestly thought following Youtubers/channels was for school aged children. I've never felt so out of touch.
I did so too SvN, but there's genuinely a lot of well made stuff on there.
Yep. I can't think of a specific example right now, but sometimes you come across stuff that's so good, pure and original that basically everything factual on TV is exposed in your mind for the dull corporate plod that it is.
The one thing I'll say is that as with podcasts, Americans need a fucking editor.
As the modern man I am, I suscribed to Fifa tv as they had the most convinient set of highlights for the futsal world cup. Would probably follow channels that have football highlights available for the leagues I follow. Would be more convenient than looking for goals in reddit.
I too am still somewhat in the out of touch group and have not ever thought of following a ‘random’ person's channel.
Geowizard - geography based fun
B1M - if you like construction/infrastructure
I'm not Norm - Norm Macdonald appreciation
Lewis Spears - Aussie comedian
Lock Picking Lawyer - Bosnian Bill appreciation channel
SciManDan - takes this piss out of flat earthers, not as good as it used to be
Tom Scott - obvs
CGPGrey - obvs
City Beautiful - infrastructure/urban/city planning
Wendover / RealLifeLore / Kurzgesagt - generally interesting educational videos
Tom the Taxi Driver - taxi driver in London
Phillip DeFranco - news channel I've probably been watching daily for over 10 years
Squirrel - plays simulations games (town building / trains / trucks)
My Mechanics - Old tool restoration
Martin Zero - northern UK based explorer/historian
I didn't think a thread like this would be how we separate the nerds from the cool kids, but here we are.
I'm eating lunch with SvN from now on.
The Cycling GK
I dont think it was ever in doubt but Ben Foster is a top (top, top) man.
Yeah, there's a bit too much of that in the circles he rolls with. Mauler, HeelvsBabyFace, etc.
He is a clever guy but leaning in to the character makes him more money than his novels ever did so I think he will keep doing it. Fair play to him though, better than working for a living.
I don't know if he's joined the dots on this, but watching a load of his stuff has made me realise that Hollywood execs have completely missed the point on why we liked male heroes in the films of years gone by. It wasn't because they were men, it was because they were interesting. Ergo, you can't just stick a Woman or an ethnic minority in a lead role and that be enough. Particularly not when they're as badly written, cast or acted as some of the characters have been over the last 10/15 years.
Rey Skywalker being the biggest example I can think of that crime, currently.
Legend of Total War, if, you know, you like total war games (or mostly just Total War Warhammer at this point) and/or mardy Australians. Henry Cavill's a fan Offy.
I don't mind the odd Spiffing Brit video every now and then.
I assume 'Legend' is not the same one that used to do Medieval 2 vids, he'd be cancelled in an instant these days.
There are loads, aren't there. Emilia Clarke being cast as a shoddily written Sarah Connor might be my favourite, partly because I'm more invested in that franchise but mainly because it took a genuinely interesting STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER, that was created while there was supposedly a problem, was in two blockbuster movies generally nailing shit, and utterly ruined her.
I've only watched the Force Awakens of the new Star Wars lot and didn't bother with the others, but having seen some of the reviews, oh my, how do you mess up a franchise that much? Doctor Who seems to have been similarly shafted, but I don't much care for that either.
Daisy Ridley and Emilia Clarke are just supremely boring.
Jodie Whittaker is a good actress who's just been handed some shite to work with. She won't be the first in that role and she won't be the last, of any gender. Plus it's a woman so there is a small core of the grumps who'd already decided they weren't going to like.it, just as they will if they make the Doctor black or gay.
If anything in Doctor Who they didn't have enough fun with the fact that this character is now suddenly a woman after however many years.
The bit of Doctor Who that made me laugh the most that I saw was an episode with a bad guy that had basically been written as Donald Trump. I mean, that absolute shithouse was shithousing around the real World enough at the time, why in the fuck would anyone want to watch an episode of light entertainment with him in as well? And more to the point, how in the fuck did anyone think "I know what'll make for great tv!" and not be told, "are you out of your fucking mind?".
Yeah that whole episode was wank but LOOK AT ALL THIS SATIRE was a bit cringeworthy.
It's sort of happened by stealth, but I at least had no idea how much stuff was out there offering satirical social commentary or trying to cure the World's ills.
We need a campaign to bring back high concept ideas like Big, Twins or Brewster's Millions.
Good news then, Triplets is on the way.
It would be nice if there were some original ideas.
You're very needy.
:D
Just not sure how Hollywood have finished films already.
Chainbear is good for F1 stuff
I mainly follow interesting food-related YouTubers:
Wang Gang - Chinese professional chef who does instruction videos on classic Chinese dishes, with a bent towards the Sichuan canon
Chinese Cooking Demystified - Is a bit what it says on the tin. American guy and his Chinese wife living in China, teaching you how to make Chinese food (generally with good insight in how to substitute stuff you can’t find outside of China)
Italia Squisita - Super well known Italian chefs. It started as a page to lol at dumb Americans and Brits ruining Italian food, but now it’s more instructional. They do a good series where they present “basic and gourmet” versions of the same dish.
Wang Gang. :D
He’d actually be called Gang Wang over here, and somehow that’s worse. :D
I've just clicked on a random Wang Gang video and inside 80 seconds he's chopping Spam with a fucking meat cleaver.
American soft power.
I like Khin's Kitchen for short recipes and ideas (the Firecracker Chicken is excellent); Billispeaks because I'm fascinated to work out if this woman has taught her cat to talk with buttons or if it just pushes them at random; MEpearlA because sometimes a mad old lady talking about possums is just what you need, and Dr Hightower because while he is a bit of a twat he often has interesting people to work on.
Wang Gang is a fucking stud
Agadmator - man talks about chess
Alvin Zhou - man takes a week to bake a cake
Beard meets food - man eats a week's worth of cake in 10 minutes
Some that haven't been mentioned yet:
Ashens: Great for a dive into shit products as well as food that really shouldn't be consumed by anyone
BeardMeatsFood: A man with an incredible beard who can pack away copious amounts of food
No More Jockeys: A terrific lockdown game from Tim Key, Mark Watson and Alex Horne
Steve1989MREInfo: Eats MRE's (usually those that are well out of date), is also very knowledgable about the history of MRE's.
Edit: RL knows, even if he can't spell the guys name right.
Tonetta777 - man makes unusual music
We’d have cured cancer if SteveMRE1989 had directed his Asperger’s towards medical research instead of collecting and consuming 50 year old, freeze-dried corned beef flecks.
They both are probably posh enough to get theatre work.
Duncan McConicker - Fascinating critical thinker, modern day Chomsky.
Suq Maddique - Good if you're interested in financial markets.
Gr4v3s - what it says on the tin.
Noah Caldwell-Gervais
His game critiques are good but the real prize are his road trips.
ACG - decent game reviews.
Decided to check out that Bald and Bankrupt people recommended in the video thread. I've started going through his back catalogue and I like him a lot although I knew he was for me when I saw this:
https://i.imgur.com/VW5O3W3.png
:D
I hear he’s some sort of sex offender which, if you watch the videos, actually squares with his personality.
Bald and Bankrupt is real separate the art from the artist for me, cus he's an absolutely fantastic video maker and also clearly a total bellend. The Mexico videos are awful as well, his mates are unbearable.
Other than bald I love:
Wrestling:
OSW
Geoguessr:
Geowizard
Chess:
GingerGM
Eric Rosen
John Bartholomew
GothamChess
Music:
Todd in the shadows
Nerdy computer bollocks:
LGR
Techmoan
Welsh cartoons:
The Vale
The vale and Todd are probably my favourites. Trainwreckords is one of the best things ever, and the vale is criminally underrated.
Pretty sure that apart from us, TTH is ignorant to Chris Chan. Although that probably says more about us than them.
I'm 56 episodes deep though and absolutely embroiled in the story, having gone in relatively blind. I even bought all the comics and a Super Sonic figure cos it's the closest thing to Sonichu, cos its yellow. :D I'm genuinely obsessed, and will probably watch them all again when I've finished.
Yeah it's very much this.
Also, as I've been going from oldest to newest I recently hit his Indian videos with Harald Baldr in and I'm struggling. The places he visits in India aren't as interesting as the ones in Eastern Europe and Harald is incredibly annoying and a massive twat.
I think I might skip the Harald India ones.
Christ, that's too far gone. :D Aimed at Baz, naturally.
Bald and Bankrupt definitely loses his appeal when he leaves the motherland. Even though he doesn't really have much to say about the places he visits.
Absolutely. The Mauritania one was fucking wank. I did enjoy him nearly getting killed by the cartel in Bolivia, though.
This one was probably his worst Soviet one, and I couldn't face watching any of his videos for a good few months after watching it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANyXBB4TMwY
Similar to hearing Morrissey's racism, really.
Watching B&B is a solid reminder that having charisma and social skills =/= being a good person, though he is incredibly watchable.
I hated that video so much.
This was also a real stinker:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ9A5Oci81Y
His "Khabib" series where he's attempting to get into Dagestan to watch Khabib/Conor are by far the best videos I've seen of his thus far.
I am aware of Chris Chan but it seems properly mental, isn't it just the worst of the internet gangstalking a mentally impaired man (who shouldn't have internet access) at this point?
Woman, but yeah.
I watched a ton of B&B at the start of the year and found it quite interesting, if a little awkward and cringe-inducing at times with his quite clear belief that he's above the natives.
But a friend of mine linked me to a reddit post that, as Luca mentions, basically details how much of a fucked up person he is and that there quite a lot of damning evidence that points to him doing some shady sexual stuff over the years and his travels.
"Don't wear a short skirt, you're just asking to be raped".
Lads, I don't think the Guardian are printing in the Vale of Kashmir so you may find he has a point.
I found the reddit link I was given - quite a long read but he's supposedly done some weird and disturbing stuff.
https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldAndBald...tent=post_body
Oh, Secret Base's Chart Party is absolutely stunning as well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvh6NLqKRfs
I need to get their Atlanta Falcons stuff watched. And I bloody love Rewinder. On the subject of stuff like that, Slapshoes does some good NASCAR stuff.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxcooczsiBI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j08gxUcBgc
I've only seen this one so far, but it was very good and the guy has about 15 vids so far, covering the fall of loads of empires.
Slapshoes is pretty good, there's also Smifftv if you want a huge archive of old NASCAR races.
My favourite YouTube channel is probably that of Dave Macleod, who is a rock climber (some might say the best all-rounder in the world) that lives near Ben Nevis. The content is all extremely well produced and he's just a bit of a legend.
Mellow is the other premier climbing channel imo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_KdbASIkB8
Stumbled upon this guy the other day. His crusade against Jamie Oliver and respect for Gordon Ramsay (along with a load of other stuff) is pretty good, I must say.
What's his beef with Oliver? Obviously he's a twat but so's Ramsay so I assume it's not purely on those grounds.
It's all about how they cook Egg Fried Rice and other Asian dishes. Ramsay good, Jamie bad.
The biggest twat celebrity chef is Jack Monroe, obviously.
Heston.
Yep, authenticity. Jamie puts chilli jam in his egg fried rice and doesn't use a wok, for example. It's pretty funny, give it a watch.
Performative poverty to fuel her grift, the food she makes looks inedible. She is always apparently on the bones of her arse yet has deals with massive brands, tv spots and a patreon with thousands of people giving her money every month for nothing. If anyone with any clout challenges her she wheels out the double whammy trans disabled cards.
Never seen this Roger character before (not sure why I would when I use YouTube exclusively for car maintenance videos) but that video was funny.
Most asian (east-asian for you Brits) people know him because of that video, which I admit was hilarious when I first saw it. The rest of his material is basically all the same character all the time, so has become somewhat of a one-trick-pony.
He was 'himself' on 8 out of 10 cats dictionary corner, and it was probably the most unfunny guest I had seen on the show.
P.S. I'm also totally on board with all his asian cooking stereotypes. Measure by "feel", cook rice using a rice cooker, measure water levels using the finger method, chopsticks being the best utensil, MSG being amazing, etc, etc.
Chopsticks.
Does your rice regularly fall off of your fork then? :cab:
Eating rice with a spoon. :harold:
Rice cookers :harold:
Chopsticks are shit too.
I personally use 2 spoons as chopsticks.
I use spoons too.
He says it's a long way to travel just because I fancy some rice but he does as he's told.
The suggestion isn't that a fork isn't fine, a spoon is just better. Only for something like fried rice where you don't need to also fork stuff. Give it a try. Might change your life.
You'll enjoy this https://tattle.life/wiki/jack-monroe/#2011
I've got a fancy rice cooker. It's great.
Which one did you go for Mahow?
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075WW...ing=UTF8&psc=1
Should have bought the smaller version though.
I've almost pulled the trigger on a rice cooker a few times but never quite gone for it.
I don't think I can top that. It's Phil Burnell levels of madness and revisionism. Coming out as poor makes it sound like it's on par with coming out as trans.Quote:
Jack sells "Ford Kia" (2) (not actually a car that exists. Also, she can't drive because of autism)
Jul 2012: Jack comes out as poor (3)
Jul 2012: Jack sells guitar and TV (1)
Aug 2012: Jack sells TV again (4)
Pressure king is the best rice cooker I ever had.
The first picture on that looks like early Mert mugshots.
What happened to that shagger anyway? Did he make it over here?
If you were having something and rice then fork, but in the unlikely event that you were eating only rice why wouldn't you just use a spoon?
If eating only rice then I will allow the spoon, but who the fuck eats rice on its own? Whatever is next to the rice (meant) necessitates a fork, so a fork it is.
A big old bowl of egg fried rice (and a spoon) is one of life's greatest pleasures.
Respect

:nodd:
Chopsticks and rice are a perfect match, they're just quite satisfying to use and if I use a spoon it'll all be inhaled in about thirty seconds flat.
I think it's the only time they're the superior implement. Maybe I'm a retard but they're just a pain if your plate is made up of noodley and/or wet things.
Eating that with chopsticks. :harold:
Even Viets use a spoon if just eating rice. Why on earth would you use chopsticks if you are eating rice only, unless you are some try-hard hipster.
If the rice is sticky enough, it works well.
Chopsticks are rubbish though. For once the east can learn from us.
I bought a rice cooker, which I have to say is quite brilliant.
I’ve always been hesitant because my parents have one and manage to fuck it up all the time and my brother (who still lives with them) still uses a pan instead.
I am absolutely shocking in the kitchen, but even I managed not to fuck it up.
I've still got the same £20 rice cooker that I bought as a student about a decade ago. An excellent servant. The pot is completely fucked out of shape and I must be consuming some amount of aluminium with each meal, so an upgrade might be in order soon.
I nearly had a wank watching this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svyZcovMP8c
Love it. People like him are my end customers. Something glorious about the way something as big, heavy and cumbersome as a crank gets slotted into such a small space.
And the precision in how it's done. I never do anything as precise, mechanically anyway, but there has to be a huge satisfaction in it.
That is what YouTube is for. Excellent stuff.
His channel is class. I love I Do Cars for one’s going in the other direction too. Plus you can pretend it’s Adam Sandler.

Though American obsession with manuals is still weird.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sI7WveN7vk
I found this absolutely adorable.
I've watched so many of them. Does make me wary of those do gooders that'll free them immediately after cutting the bands off.
Also, don't lobsters live forever?
It's such an unwieldy creature. Imagine having normal sized arms that can do useful things, and then also fucking massive arms with nuclear warheads on the end.
Or a solution to world hunger.
When I was a kid Lamb Shank was the cheap shit bit of meat that the plebs ate, these days you'll find no decent restaurant without it. These giant lobsters could pull the same trick in reverse.
I read once about some ship or another where the crew threatened mutiny if they were given lobster for dinner again.
Quite right too. Pretty shellfish of the officers, that.
Absolutely, maritime claw is very clear on these things.
When I eat lobster I like to put a bit of soy sauce and five spice on the outside before cooking, then really sear it on a high heat. You know, to make the crust Asian.

7 hours of lovely dashcam footage as a stoner with a voice for radio tries to tell us about a highway. I'm into it.
I love watching Dr Mike with his weight lifting advice. Here's a good one:
https://youtu.be/60eqYpfAz_k
I don't watch a lot of YouTube but this channel is cool as fuck. He just restores shit and doesn't speak a word whilst doing it. Now he's having a go at a car so this will be interesting. And a fucking cool car at that.
First up, the disassembly:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B13vXFj37RI
Whilst we wait for part 2, here's another beauty.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_Ov2MRXZro
The homemade sandblaster is just genius.
He's also done a few Hondas in a similar vein if you like his style. And a Transporter conversion.
you seen any techmoan, @Giggles ? I feel like it might be your thing, if you have any interest in old tech and gadgets and stuff. everyone should check him out really, he's great. mostly covers old and obscure av formats like this one:
https://youtu.be/F4K1QKKPX_g
he's also absolutely obsessed with minidisks
Seen a few of those, but only normally like when they do old consoles or even new stuff.
This was a good 5 video series. That fucking wiring loom would make me sick.

Been down some My Mate Vince rabbit hole lately.
Anyone seen this Max Ostro guitar player? Incredible.
Jelle's marble runs. You can thank me later.

I'm sure that was posted years ago [or some form of it] but it's never not impressive.

@Giggles
This guy is so good.
Part 2 finally out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfNTB1235V8
 I was hoping it was coming soon.
Lol at internet historian. I enjoy his #content and he's a funny guy, but clearly a stupid alt right edgelord. He's basically @Lewis, if Lewis came from New Zealand and spent his formative years on 4chan instead of here.
Actually now I type that out, that's probably true of another slightly more problematic person as well :D
I assume this is the plagiarism he quietly tried to hush up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcWqzZ3I2cY
Really enjoyed the above and Lex is a cracking antidote to the Men's Mental Health, work hard etc. nonsense from the presenters of high performance and the like.
More Datsun today @Ben.
Oh lovely.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to film Stick to Football with them all eating and talking should be run out of the industry. Absolutely foul.

This channel is great. Weird medical case studies and some fantastic comic acting.
I've spent a good chunk of the last few days watching some yank clear drains to empty flooded roads.
Link?
That's right up my alley.
I've seen a couple of those. Some of the whirlpools they generate are fun.
It's an absolutely absurd state of affairs to say I was instantly also interested to watch culvert unclogging.
The fuck is wrong with us?
Autism.
Watching people work is surprisingly compelling.
Been living that in our street this last few days.
https://i.imgur.com/4XvnRea.jpg
It's thrilling!
A few weeks back I changed my headlamp bulb in the work car park. It takes about 5-7 minutes all being well. Within about 1:30 of starting, a group of men had gathered behind me to watch. No comments, no assistance offers, just a few nods and puffing of lips before I started to put the lamp back in and they dispersed again. Men like to watch men do things.
Brilliant.

For some reason I've really gotten into this guy the last day or so:
https://www.youtube.com/@CannedFishFiles
He's really weird but I love his style as he reviews tinned fish.
:cab:
Give a video a watch, it shouldn't work but it does.
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach man how to review tinned fish, and he'll assemble an army of sad cunts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzvPljhhctI
He has a channel full of these, mostly with barely any views. Why?
As in why doesn't he have any views?
I'm impressed. That shit is hard.
With that said, I have zero interest on watching anything like it ever again.

The ALGORITHM has been suggesting me a couple of videos of Marco Pierre White with his son, and if there's a more obvious wrong'un about I've not come across them.
Have you ever watched M539 Restorations @Ben? I have much catching up to do, currently making my way through the 850i.
Not seen it pop up on my feed before, thanks for the tip.
Bald and bankrupt polarised a lot of people due to being outed as a bit of a sexual deviant but he's in Syria now and released a couple of excellent videos. It's still his usual style but he's clearly trying to be more professional.
I find the guy a total creep, but I watched a video the other month in which he was trying to break into an old Soviet shuttle hangar (forgive my poor terminology - really big plane) and it was absolutely riveting. Very much torn on this one.
His presenting style and content are incredible but he's seriously sleazy.
I tried to get into other travel Youtubers but have failed.
Noel Phillips is the closest but he's really just the journey rather than exploring the destination he's gone to.
Yeah, Noel Philips spends so much of his life going to places he's immediately leaving. He does end up on some cool journeys, mind. Like the one with SCAT Airlines or the one where he winds up in an Aussie mining cabin.
I'm usually happy to separate art from artist (I still love Annie Hall and Off The Wall), but not with B&B. Probably an obvious observation, but the reason I find him totally unwatchable is that his grossness seeps into the videos themselves. I mean, his charismatic personality is 75% of the appeal, and when that's reframed as the fake charm of a used cars salesman pervert it's game over. It's like watching a noncy Saul Goodman doing a travelogue.
He has absolutely unbelievable social skills, and I find that very unsettling in a person. Like, are you human and do you have a conscience if you never find any social situation uncomfortable.
The fact he's recording everything gets more people to approach him. That's a crucial part of the grift.
If I see someone recording themselves I’d be doing a 180 sharpish.
He's class. Love Chicago, that is some machine.
I'm just done going through a few I missed on project Raleigh (what a machine too) and going to start Cologne next.
Had the foresight to do a good bit of downloading before the storm came, so got through the entirety of Cologne the past couple of days.
Is that his original E39? Not done that one. Currently on the Skövde one (also E39) that he’s resurrected in the last couple of months.
One thing that about Noel Phillip's travel stuff is how often he repeats things he has just said.
"Of course, Saudia is a dry airline because Saudi Arabia is a dry country." <next scene> "Here is my mocktail because, of course, Saudia is a dry airline." Rest assured, he will tell you his flight schedule 4 times before he boards.

Awwww. :( Honestly, giving a store-bought Lobster a few extra years of life is so wholesome.
Feels like a long time since I've watched Leon the Lobster. Sad news.
Thank God. I’ve watched his whole catalogue now so I’m starved.
 All over it instantly last night. He’s not wrong either, that is a fine arse.
Thanking you, will give it a watch. Had mine out tonight, absolutely sweet as a nut. Minus the oil leaks.
