Yep. I can't think of a specific example right now, but sometimes you come across stuff that's so good, pure and original that basically everything factual on TV is exposed in your mind for the dull corporate plod that it is.
The one thing I'll say is that as with podcasts, Americans need a fucking editor.
As the modern man I am, I suscribed to Fifa tv as they had the most convinient set of highlights for the futsal world cup. Would probably follow channels that have football highlights available for the leagues I follow. Would be more convenient than looking for goals in reddit.
I too am still somewhat in the out of touch group and have not ever thought of following a ‘random’ person's channel.

I don't know if he's joined the dots on this, but watching a load of his stuff has made me realise that Hollywood execs have completely missed the point on why we liked male heroes in the films of years gone by. It wasn't because they were men, it was because they were interesting. Ergo, you can't just stick a Woman or an ethnic minority in a lead role and that be enough. Bald and bankrupt polarised a lot of people due to being outed as a bit of a sexual deviant but he's in Syria now and released a couple of excellent videos. It's still his usual style but he's clearly trying to be more professional.
I find the guy a total creep, but I watched a video the other month in which he was trying to break into an old Soviet shuttle hangar (forgive my poor terminology - really big plane) and it was absolutely riveting. Very much torn on this one.
His presenting style and content are incredible but he's seriously sleazy.
I tried to get into other travel Youtubers but have failed.
Noel Phillips is the closest but he's really just the journey rather than exploring the destination he's gone to.
Yeah, Noel Philips spends so much of his life going to places he's immediately leaving. He does end up on some cool journeys, mind. Like the one with SCAT Airlines or the one where he winds up in an Aussie mining cabin.
