2021 NFL Fantasy Football

Don't think we've had a new thread since about 2017 so it's probably time to make one for this year....

I'd assume that all players from last year are returning? Really it's only @Ian and @Baz I haven't spoken to about it yet.

Season is sneaking up on me quickly so I guess it's time to start discussing when we should draft. I have a draft this Saturday, but otherwise i'm open to any evening really (preferably Friday or Saturday, but I could make other days work).

Season starts on Thursday the 9th, so we'll have to schedule it before then, and have time to do keepers. We'll stick with the 2 keeper format from previous years, I think.

For ease of getting time for the keepers sorted out, it's likely best to be either 28/29th or the 4/5th of September.

I'm good for any of those evenings.

28th August and 4th to the 7th September are the nights I definitely can't do for that end of August / start of September period but I appreciate that rules out some prime draft dates so if the 5th works for everybody else then go for it. I'll make sure I have my keepers in in uncharacteristically timely fashion and leave my draft in the hands of fate (or try and make an effort for the autodraft thing.)

Can you do the 29th? If people can get me their keepers in the next few days we can make that work?

Similar to Baz, they have to have a value (e.g. they have to have been drafted last year) but yea, as long as they were, and it's not those 2 players, or someone who was kept by someone else that you acquired, you'll be fine.

To simplify it, these players are not available as keepers:

CMC, Zeke, Tyreek Hill, Watson, Henry, Kupp, Kyler Murray, Sanders, Singletary, Allen Robinson, Loomar, Drake, Sutton, Rudolph, Golden Tate, Metcalf, Fant, Josh Allen

Yeah, they were the ones with a K by them in my draft from last year.

I'll do the draft order random draw on my lunch break so people can make informed decisions on their keepers. I guess for now we'll stick to 10 players as the keeper system makes it hard to add anyone else without vastly changing the player values.

It's why I decided to take a punt on Jefferson in the 15th last year, I didn't expect him to go mental last year.

Also took Jeudy in the 12th as an option but his brick hands failed me.

I don't think either of my keepers are amazing value but I don't think I'll regret Kelce at the end of the second round and I like McLaurin so he should be solid at the end of the sixth as well.

Kelce isn't too bad there. You would likely not get him at pick #19 and he was a sliver off winning the receiving yards crown last year. As a TE that's great going.

No chance he'd last to 19 with keepers.

A couple of picks I think I whiffed but I'm not unhappy with that. I did quite well if my list was any marker, though obviously that's only as useful as my baselining.

I'm assuming you've gone Cook, Carson then Allen? It also seems to be from those picks to be a 12 team league.

It's also only just really dawned on me that I have two Broncos wideouts when we don't even know which so-so quarterback will be throwing to them but yolo.

Yeah taking Allen in the 3rd there was the trade you made instead of a WR1 type. You could maybe have had Scary Terry, Lamb, Evans or Robinson there, but then obviously you're losing out on your QB.

The double Bronco WR situation isn't ideal, but I still think it's going to be Lock to start and he seemed to like Sutton before he died. It'll likely rest on what Waddle does. Brown is likely to get 3-4 weeks of scoring about 4 points and then 1 week where he gets 38.

For the record, I am happy for Dan to cancel his keeper of Dobbins, but he wouldn't get a new keeper. This assumes Yahoo lets me do it, but yea, that's always been my stance, because I don't think teams should have to go into a draft with a wasted pick if something happens. With Dobbins, we don't know the extent yet, so given how fast RBs go, and the fact we have Mahow in the league, Dobbins in the 6th might still be worth it.

I've removed Dobbins from the keeper list, but he may be re-added up to 7:30 tonight. I don't want to make any changes after that as Yahoo tends to open the draft at 8:30.

Draft opens in about 40 minutes and kicks off in 1 Hour 10 minutes. JK Dobbins is officially removed so Dan only has the 1 keeper.

I'll be there. Probably trying to keep up with my sheet and eat takeaway at the same time. The massive gap between picks might help on that front.

Someone has offered me Deebo Samuel for Antonio Gibson, am I missing something?

WR is deep this year and Gibson looks to have an every down and pass catching role. Gibson by an absolute mile.

It also helps if you’re in a PPR league. There are very few RBs who are every down style backs that also command a good target share.
He’s also with the coach who loved having a CMC style back so I wouldn’t put it past him to want to try to recreate that role.

Is this my first TTH final? Can't work out how to check on the app. I think it might be... And I'm definitely not winning.

All 3 of my teams absolutely smashed it last night and made 3 finals out of the 3 Semis I was in. Unfortunately, I was already eliminated from 2 of my 5 leagues (although I did win a 3rd place match in 1 of those).

All 3 finals look close though, Higgins won't put up nearly 50 points to make them routine again. I feel like all my good luck was used up.

And yes, this would appear to be your first final.

Now that my 3 finals are over.... what a season that was!

TTH Standard was probably the final I was most confident in of the 3, but was also the one that started absolutely horrifically. I think most people said from the draft my team would be tough to stop with Taylor and Gibson as the keepers and Saquon added to the mix.... but both the season and the final started so bad. Many of my players under performed in the final, but I think it really came down to the waivers last week. Me, Ian and GF both went in for Ronald Jones and Amon-Ra.... and me getting Amon-Ra and missing Jones seemingly dictated the final. What a guy. If that goes the other way or GF had a higher priority, either of them could have won it. It's just nice that we were the 3 best teams over the year too, rather than someone scoring insanely and not even competing, as often happens.

Amon-Ra also played a huge part in the Super Flex final. That was the one I thought I might lose, but it obviously helped that my opponent didn't update his line up. I was afraid if he added Ronald Jones, ODB, Gesicki and the Pats DST off his bench I'd be in trouble before the game started. When he didn't start any of them, and left 2 holes in his line up, I was confident, but in the end I don't think the holes mattered as we won by just shy of 40 points and had he started his best 2 pre-game options (RoJo and Gesicki) they wouldn't have gotten close. Even adding ODB and the Pats wouldn't make up the gap, so while it sucks to go up against an incomplete team, I'm certain the better team won. It's nice to get this after losing the final last year because Stafford got injured on the first drive.... although he didn't exactly help me much in this final either.

The Standard Dynasty final.... I was 50/50 on before it started. Zach won it 2 years ago and I won it last year so it was a big match on paper and we were also the 2 top scorers and 2 top seeds. That I did all that without Derrick Henry for half the year and without MT all year was unexpected. I added the Chicago DST with no plans to start them just so he couldn't get them.... and then flipped on the decision and netted an extra 15 points as a result which is nice. AB and Higgins did their best to let me down in multiple finals, but it wasn't to be. Thank you Nick Chubb for being a sack of shit, I guess. It should be stated that Dan really should have won though. He lost to me in the Semis by 5 points after leaving injured Conner in his side.... and then outscored me in the final week by 40 points. That said, he was only in the Semi Final to begin with thanks to luckily having the defense who faced Ian Book who weren't even considered a good option at the start of that game week before Hill went down so.... fuck him!

Great year all round for my teams really as I won the 2 leagues that mean most to me out of the 5 I play in. Shame the other 2 didn't work out when I had pretty strong teams in my opinion, but you can't win them all.

I really believed in Amon-Ra in pre-season which is why I drafted him in Super Flex and wanted to draft him in the other dynasty but he got snapped up a few picks before me. It's nice to see him pay off when it mattered. :hail:

I fully expect my Dynasty team to struggle next year, despite the back to back championships. They're just getting old and another 12th pick isn't going to help me much. if Henry comes back at an elite level, we might be alright, I guess.

For Standard... we're changing the keeper rules to I can keep Taylor again, right? Right????

That final kinda fit my team's season really. Third highest scoring team in the league but kept hitting other teams on some of their best weeks and my own players shitting the bed. Very boom-bust.

And I was seriously struggling for depth with all the injuries but there we are. Second isn't bad.

I focus on the Dynasty leagues while the games are going on, but when I checked TTH after an hour or so I was ready to concede it. I'm not even sure what changed other than ARSB going mental, but yea, it seemed like you had it well in hand. In general, across all my leagues, this was a tough, tough season to adapt to. In all honesty I probably won the 2 dynasty leagues based more on my depth than anything. If this is the standard for 17 week seasons then the game has changed.... injuries are going to dictate things more than ever before.

I think it's just that a few of my players got off to hot starts and then basically stopped.

Gallup getting a TD and injuring himself out of the game early was the proper chef's kiss cherry on top.

Oh and of course the most important part was DT getting a ring on my bench.

I was hoping the coach would change his decision and play him..... but alas it wasn't to be.

I had St. Brown as my top priority for the week so had I managed to grab him I'd have won the semi final and then final, but that's all ifs and buts.

Kupp and Diggs was a great WR combo to have throughout. I think I also did well to cope with losing CMC and Carson pretty early on. Unfortunately when Conner went down and Javonte Williams started getting stuffed, it was a bridge too far.

Pretty happy with the season. I pretty much did everything I could do, but was a little unlucky and also you pair played it better over the play-off weeks.

Time to get this up and running again, I guess.

I'm still not sure of the logistics of expanding the number of teams. I guess the easiest way if we really wanted to go from 10-12 would be to not do keepers this year and start fresh. Alternatively I guess we could just have the 2 new teams not have keepers and be as a disadvantage in year 1, but I'm not sure how I feel about that. The best way is just to stick with 10... but yea, if there's still interest from new players we can discuss it.

Kickers: Succop, Lutz (We start 2.... for... reasons. But I neglected them as late as possible).
DST: Indy
IDP: J.Brooks, D.James (We need to start 3 so I'll have to pick up a DL player at some point).

I was picking at 7 and the guy at 8 didn't show up so I was able to predict his picks with reasonable accuracy. Best one was when the only hole in his line up was QB so he was clearly going QB/QB so I took Dak before him even though I didn't need Dak at that point. Fuck him. :D

Overall WRs could be better, but I sacrificed those to load up with studs elsewhere. Ekeler was my keeper in Round 3 which helped.

Had my final draft of the year tonight (Yea.... after the season started.... I complained about that but oh well, seemingly it just gives everyone a bye this week). Another 2 QB, 8 team league... but I'm stunned how strong my team is (I had the number 1 pick):

Some of those picks were absolutely mental. I assumed I'd have to play week 1 but still couldn't talk myself out of Josh Allen so that's why I took Lance so early. Herbert falling all the way to pick 16 was fucking insane, he should have gone easily in the first round. Another one I couldn't believe was me getting Conner 31 picks after I took Zeke when I had basically flipped a coin between them. When I drafted Lance I really wanted to draft Cooks... and yet Cooks fell all the way through and back to me.

Yes, everyone is stacked in 8 team leagues, and yes I don't have an alpha WR1... but yea... this feels ridiculously strong.

Really cool for Loomar to die almost instantly and for Sam to go over his original projection by 50 points.

I won in my other league despite Jackson being deaded thanks to nearly 20 points from Badgely. I won by a point too. I'd be fucking livid if I lost by a point and the opposing kicker got good WR/ RB numbers.

I did also win another league despite Jackson and I was only like 19 points away in the third league I have Jackson.

Cleveland DST put in quite a bit of work for me.

Shoutout to the team in the second Fleaflicker league who beat @Dan by less than a point last week, to then again hold on and win by less than a point this week to knock Dan out of the play offs.

A special shoutout to my TTH Dynasty team who has had the wooden spoon and therefore first pick in the draft sewn up for what seems like several weeks now. Then has decided with the help of Mike Williams and especially Jerrick McKinnon in the final week, to turn up and actually win for once, therefore handing Pleb the first pick.

Keepers will cost whatever round pick you picked them in last year. Anyone who wasn't drafted won't be eligible for a keeper. Keepers can only be kept for 1 year.

First game is September 8th and I don't have any other drafts to get in the way besides one on August 27th, so the weekend of 5th/6th September would appear to be the ideal draft time, but open to suggestions if that doesn't work for all.

Yep, my calendar must have switched back to August while I was writing that. 2nd/3rd September would be best, unless there's any objections.

Yahoo necessitates we determine the draft order before it allows me to set keepers so I've always had to do that using a random number generator. I'll get to that once I know everyone is returning as knowing where you are drafting can help determine which keepers are worth it/not worth it.

I think I mentioned this last year but I'll gloat the idea now it's pertinent: smaller squads?

Our draft takes about a fortnight to complete if everybody's there and with every player anybody's heard of gone you're basically boned if you need to try and pick up a player further into the season.

I will, as always, go with the flow but I really wouldn't be opposed to smaller squads. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

It’s definitely something that wasn’t properly accounted for when we expanded from 10 to 12 teams.

That said the benches are already pretty shallow with only 7 spots for 11 starting positions. We could probably drop 1 flex and/or 1 WR spot and get away with it if the majority wanted to.

I quite like the BLOATED squads due to the 2 keepers. I like taking punts on rookies late like Pacheco in round 10 and Brian Robinson in the 14th last year.

If everyone else wants to trim it down though I'll live with it.

I don't want to be that guy but from what I see I think the deadline passed once we hit the 17th. The option I used to select mine isn't there now.

And it's that you can keep anyone who was drafted and finished on your team. So Baz could have drafted Javonte Williams in the 16th round and then dropped him due to his injury, if you picked him up and stashed him then you can keep him and not Baz.

The 17th deadline is misleading as seemingly Yahoo interprets it as the moment we enter the 17th (in America anyway).

As Ian is the only one seemingly effected I will let him submit them via PM or discord (or in this thread, anything works) and close it once I have heard from him.

He was genuinely top of my sheet (maybe if that was a bizarre first pick I either didn't re-baseline properly or picked a bad site for my projections) but I am also largely in it for the vibes and a team with Henry and Scary Terry in it is a team that eases my soul.

Also Yahoo doesn't like my draft but I think last year it did right before about five of my team went on IR. So basically in Deek and McScorin we trust.

I thought I was in with a shout when CeeDee & Amon-Ra had big games, but alas Lamar & Kyren Williams have outdone them & other than Deebo the rest of my team is too shit to carry their own weight.

It’s almost like my team was bad the whole time & I got carried to the final by two good players popping off at the right time.

Obviously if Tucker Kraft scores 20pts now then I’m a genius & my victory is fully deserved, but that seems unlikely 😀

Great season for me somehow. Started off quite poorly but form picked up and although I finished second in the league, I scored the most points. Also only made 5 trades all season. :eek: Final was a lot closer than expected, but starting Jackson ahead of Purdy saw me over the line. :)

It was so good for my amazing team to fall to shit when it mattered most.

Only clarification I'd make is you also can't keep someone else's keepers- so if you had for some reason traded CMC to me last year after keeping him, I couldn't keep him now. But yea, you can keep players that were drafted and then cut by someone else, or that you traded for.
