Dylan Moran's new thing is very good.
What's his new thing?
I saw his latest tour, Off The Hook, earlier this year and said:
His isn't an act that sells itself well to stories about his kids.Quote:
Went to see Dylan Moran tonight, who had taken his tour show up here for the second time. I've seen him twice before but only in ten or twenty minute bursts where he's been practicing new stuff.
He was great tonight when he was improvising bits, but his actual act is a bit crap, by the standard he once was at least. Too much time talking about his boring family life, mocking stuff nobody actually cares about like the Great British Bake Off.
He could read the phone book and make me laugh, though, such is his manner.
That is the new thing. Presumably he's refined it though because there's one line about 'Bake Off'.
He does spend a fair bit of time on his family though.
Lots of people care about Bake Off.
I should watch Black Books again to see whether it would annoy me these days.
I'd say not that many among the typical audience at a Dylan Moran show, not that I meant for that to be taken literally. Maybe I should just repost your video from earlier. You dick.
I haven't seen any of it since I was about seventeen when I was less cynical and my tolerance for low-level, twee weirdness was probably higher. You know how when you first join TD and Fry seems like one of the funnier posters? It doesn't last does it?
That said, I've never liked Dylan Moran's stand-up. It's comedy for frustrated novelists (see above).

John this may be of interest to you and others in Glasgow.
I'm running this night at my local snooker club on Saturday. If any Glasgow based TTH's want discounted tickets give me a message on here and i'll sort you out. The headliner is the star of BBC One's Scots Squad Chris Forbes. Host is Scott Agnew,
All info on the website www.laldycomedy.com
In terms of Dylan Moran, I think his new show is fantastic. He is exceptional. Even when he was trying stuff out at the stand he was great.
Good luck Chrissy. Do you get much from ticket sales?
Saw Joe murpurgo at the fringe and he was fucking ridiculously good. Expected nothing as he's just one of those unknown comics who had a bit of a buzz around him but he was excellent. Heard that when he toured the same show at a few small gigs in London Chris morris and harry hill both were spotted in attendance... dissaponting appearances on mock the week and a shit bbc3 pilot beckons.
Not really. All sales will go towards paying the rent and bills haha. aim is to break even. Sold 40 need 55 to hit that. Hopefully will do so. It's a cracking line up and a new night. The podcast i'm doing has helped as has hosting the local new material night. Fingers crossed.
Just after seeing David O'Doherty. Was very good.
Seen Nish Kumar Friday night. Overall a bit meh but there were some genuinely hilarious bits. Seemed crazy nervous at the start though.
Anyone seeing Bill Burr on his UK tour?
Pissed that he's not doing a Birmingham date, considering Manchester or Bristol.
Went to see Sam Simmons on Friday. Not as good as his Edinburgh show last year, but he was still really good.
I went to see Frankie Boyle testing some new material at The Stand last week. It was quite good, not as many jokes designed just to shock.
The warm up act was a guy called Scott Gibson who was also pretty decent.
Shave your head and you're there.
I'm half an hour into Ricky Gervais' Humanity and it's crap.
I watched that the other day. First 'standup' I ever watch.
Toggle Spoiler
I also watched some French lad in NY and he was shit. Louis CK was a decent lol though.
Quite a lot of it has been him recounting times he pwnd n00bs on Twitter, which supports my idea to start billing him as 'Twitter Personality Ricky Gervais'.
'Needless to say, I had the last laugh!'
Yeah it was a bit shit. He's spent the last week liking and retweeting anyone who says anything good about it.
I did lol at the Trans community seething once again though.
I haven't found Gervais funny for about a decade now. It's a shame because his stuff in the early 2000s was genuinely brilliant.
Actually, looking back, you can probably pinpoint the exact moment he stopped being funny with the day he signed up to Twitter.
It was when he lost weight.
I went to watch Doug Stanhope last week. It was pretty bad.
Comedians just aren't funny anymore. Reddit and Twitter are much more entertaining.
I meant to mention that Gervais thing the other day. About eighty percent of it is just him relitigating his Twitter arguments from the last five years.
Went to see Joe Morpurgo again on Friday, he's bloody brilliant and everyone should see him if you get a chance.
I suspect the majority of you won't, but I really like Bo Burnham. Saw him in Cambridge a few years ago and he's also got shows on YouTube/Netflix. Make Happy is probably the best.
It's mostly songs, I should probably say.
EDIT:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stVNdLmKGYw
As an example.
Was Gad Elmaleh the French guy, @Pepe? I liked that. Not huge belly laughs but pleasantly funny.
He was on Jerry Seinfeld's thing, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Anyone seen any of that? There's four seasons on Netflix. The Larry David one is particularly good.
I absolutely loved Dylan Moran about five to ten years ago, but I haven't seen any of his new stuff. Is he still as good as he was?
I realise he has one schtick (degenerate Irishman), but it's a good one as they go.
I saw him live what must have been a couple of years ago (feels like 6 months) and he was very good. I have no idea how he does it though, I can't tell if he just forgets what he's talking about and returns to it 20 minutes later or it's incredibly tighly written and he just pretends he's forgot.
In 2009, I was lucky enough to see him do the same show in Australia at the start of the year, and the UK at the end of the year.
Quite a lot of those rambles are actually very tightly scripted, although it was interesting to see how he'd adjusted the show slightly over the course of a year. Proper craftsmanship.
I'm sure. He just manages to pass it off so well.
Watched the first episode of James Acaster's Netflix thing last night. One truly interminable sequence about a podcast aside it was very good.
I saw show 2 (Represent) at Edinburgh a few years ago, and show 3 (Reset) in Leicester. I preferred Represent but both were very good.
I wasn't a great fan of his before seeing these but I think that's because Mock The Week does nobody any favours at all. Read his book recently which was really good.
I listened to the audiobook and it's great, especially as he's the one reading it.
The man's hilarious.
Just watched Greg Davies' Netflix special which was good.
The second episode of that Acaster thing has a couple of similarly esoteric routines to the podcast shambles from the first, but they're among the best parts of the episode.
He's very good.
I watched he first one after John's original post and it was indeed brilliant.
I actually think it's quite exciting.
I've been to see quite a few really good comedians where I've thought it was a shame that it'd basically be impossible for them to reach a more mainstream audience, aside from disappointing appearances on panel shows (unless you're Stewart Lee). Acaster was definitely one I put in that category, so it's brilliant he's been given a platform and people other than comedy nerds seem to be enjoying his stuff.
It also reminds me how much I fucking hate panel shows.
It's weird. Go a couple of months without freeview and you forget the format even exists. I've got German/French/Italian/American TV and none of them have it. The closest thing is the French where they basically do Newsnight but with a panel of celebs/comedians to comment on the pieces inbetweeen. So Newsnight basically.
Australia has a bunch of panel shows which are slightly less good than their British equivalents. The only one that was actually good was our version of Never Mind the Buzzcocks (called Spicks and Specks, after the Bee Gees son). It was hosted by Adam Hills, and it was fantastic. Lasted for a while too.
Lee Nelson wears a suit now?
Lee Nelson's career path is bizarre. It's like if Russell Howard decided to be Bill Hicks.
Going the fringe for a week but made the stupid error of booking it for the first week, i.e. before there's time to see what shows are getting a BUZZ etc. Gonna have to just wing it based on who I've seen before and what the lovely comedy nerds on cookdandbombd reckon I should see. Anyone else going?
Yeah. Thousands of wankers.
There's still a sofa up for grabs in our airbnb if you fancy it, Lew. It has a wood fired pizza oven in the garden and everything, I'm sure we can put those Asda deli counter pizzas in it.
You're alright ta. Just bring us back all the Donald Trump zingers.
I have enough faith in my ability to avoid crap sub-radio 4 "political satire" that I'm not really expecting to hear many. I'm too hip for that Marcus Brigstocke shit, brother.
Planned fringe with autistic zeal and it's worked out well. Seen so much bloody great stuff.
Got tickets to see Lost Voice Guy in March.
Im seeing Cum Town live at the end of October. Im still surprised they are touring Australia.
Ooh okay. Natalie Palamides was excellenct, Jordan Brookes was very good, felicity ward was good, tom Neenan was good. We haven't seen Kate berlant but we've had about ten people tell us she's amazing.
But yeah on balance deffo deffo see Palamides and Brookes and ward if you like conventional stand up and Neenan if you like more one man theatre type shit.
And berlant will probably be great based on triangulation of recommendations from about ten people
Sam Campbell is the best comedian I've ever seen.
He looks like he can handle a room well which is 80% of the battle but his actual written jokes are a bit crap.
"I think I'm autistic but I've never been tested, I'm too busy staring at the train timetable" *big laugh*
"It says train y connects to train x, I wish I could connect to a person in a social setting" *another big laugh*
I can definitely see him managing a room full of drunk arseholes at 'The Fringe' where your jokes don't actually matter.
Maybe I'm just sick of comedians that talk about how they're crap at being human beings, of course you are or you wouldn't be up on that stage. No one stable/not broken in some way is making it a career.
The alternative is jokes about 'my awkward mate'.
Norm McDonald has clocked a fucking impressive nought to sixty time on getting the world to think he's an arsehole. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say a bad word about him before this week, while he was dicking around on talk shows like a pound shop Bill Murray. Then this.
He's since issued an apology during which he said one would need to have down syndrome not to feel some sympathy for the victims.Quote:
Well, Louis [C.K.] and Roseanne [Barr] are the two people I know. And Roseanne was so broken up [after her show’s reboot was cancelled] that I got Louis to call her, even though Roseanne was very hard on Louis before that. But she was just so broken and just crying constantly. There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, “What about the victims?” But you know what? The victims didn’t have to go through that.
Ah Down Syndromers. Those famously nasty bastards.
Louis Ck's new set.
https://youtu.be/Iz4-a1ZiuQA
Is he not tarnished by wanky stuff?
Started doing spots around New York again. The Cellar Comedy club has a policy where they will comp any triggered woman their meal if he drops in unannounced which is lol
I understand the appeal of lolling at triggered SJW cucks and all that Jordan Peterson shit but I mean...he's pretty much an unapologetic sex offender.
Yeah, he's a prick. And I'm saying that as someone who used to think he was great. I loved Louie (the tv show).
Also, what I've heard from the clip doing the rounds he just seems to be this now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV0wTtiJygY
That was most of his act before.
His act is exactly the same.
No it's not.
Eric Lalor next week
Bumping Mics is great. Even though they wheel out every minority comedian to show diversity.
All I see on twitter about that Louis set are do-gooders saying not to 'punch down'.
Fuck off you holier than thou twats.
It was ok when he was taking the piss out of deer but this is *too* far.
I got to see Ricky Gervais for £20 last night because it was a warm up for his next stand up tour which will again be on Netflix. Thought it was great, and only one small mention of Twitter.
His Bruce Jenner bit had me lolling like a daft cunt in his last one.
Ricky Gervais is just the worst try hard these days. You'd call it Brent-esque if that wasn't a bit Brent at this point.
https://i.redd.it/lkfsy8a10u921.jpg
James Acaster is oddly amusing. Highly recommend his Netflix show.
Gervais on Twitter is demented.
I heard a rumour that he is an atheist.
Somehow still better than Graham Linehans 24/7 posting about trans stuff.
All comedians are shit on Twitter.
Except maybe Tronald.
About 75% of Gervais' activity on Twitter is him liking and/or retweeting praise about his shows (especially Derek).
Ricky Gervais sucks. Even Americans agree.
It's his desire to suck up to Americans that has been his downfall. A bit like Tony Blair, really.
The Office is still the best comedy ever made, but fucking hell he should have retired a decade ago.
Ricky Gervais is awful on Jim and Sam radio. He just goes over the same jokes that he has been leaning on for the last 10 years.
Gervais and Linnehan are both utterly deranged. I think Gervais is just a narcissist and an idiot, but Linehan has genuinely lost his mind. Almost feel sorry for the bloke.
@phonics Linehan has been obsessing over this trans thing for ages and I saw someone on another forum half-jokingly suggest it was because he can't handle criticism, and after he got loads of shit for his (genuinely really unpleasant) portrayal of a trans character in the IT Crowd he's basically doubled down and intellectually justified it by finding a way to hate trans people in a righteous way. And a recent interview basically fucking confirmed it was 100% true. Have you seen the clip in question?
Except this bloke.
Magic in a few years.
Ricky Gervais hasn't been any good since about 2007. He's fully gone now, I thought he had it in him to stop being a dickhead and turn it around, but I was wrong.
This tweet is particularly amusing, given the grovelling apology he made when he was called out for calling people mongs over Twitter.
He is a mong.
The answer to liking him again, as with all people, is to not go on Twitter too much.
I took some shit on here about ten years ago for saying I thought Stephen Merchant was the more talented of the two and would wind up with a better, more varied career. I didn't predict Ricky Gervais becoming a giant arsehole squatting over the internet, but I think time is bearing me out on the Merchant thing.
I tried to find the interview and found this where he goes on some bizarre rant about Ian Huntley becoming a woman and naming himself after one of the girls he murdered and follows it up with "Even if this isn’t true, the fact that it’s even possible if cause for concern" which is just mental.

edit: It's the episode where Douglas finds out he's dating someone who 'used to be a man' not 'someone from iran'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2KsZHRrFpU
What I want to know is how the pair of them somehow came up with certainly the best and most original sitcom of the last 30 years, if not longer. Talk about being greater than the sum of your parts.
Gervais May never be as good The Office again, but the section on why he doesn’t have kids from his last stand up was comedy gold.
Nathan Fielder is the only good comedian
If that’s who I think he is FUCKING SHIT.
Sorry that was my gut reaction. Googled now and yep it’s the Nathan For You Guy. I swear whenever someone says that show is funny they are completely trolling. It must be one big online wind-up because it’s the most painstakingly rubbish and unfunny tv show I’ve ever watched.
Noel Fielding is the worst comedian on the planet. His Fly 'stand up' made me want to inflict serious injury upon my person.
I used to hate him but he's really grown on one me since his Taskmaster stint and Bake Off.
I still maintain that Bob Mortimer is the funniest person on the planet.
The fact Bob Mortimer had a career at all still baffles me but then again as far as humour goes, we are worlds apart as countries on the whole.
Noel Fielding's brand of surreal nonsense only works when there's a framework imposed on it. When he's writing his own stuff completely unrestricted it's just complete horseshit.
https://youtu.be/Ol2o9wCdyTw
Just incase someone hasn't seen it and is fond of self harm.
All I can remember about his latest stand up is that the latter half was almost entirely him telling stories about what he posted on Twitter, and what people replied, and what he then said in response. All of course ending with "Needless to say, I had the last laugh".
noel fielding is 45, what a sad act
You off your meds lad.
i watched a couple of nathan for you episodes and had a reaction similar to Baz's, which is surprising because it sounds exactly like the kind of shite i usually love
I loved Nathan For You. The finale was a thing of beauty.
yeah it's fucking hilarious, now change your vote
The Office is indeed perfect. Outstanding from start to finish.
The Chapelle outrage is predictably hilarious.
They want everything to be like fucking Nanette.
I urge anyone to see how long they can sit through Brendan Schaubs hour, Rogan should be ashamed for causing this. I don't think I've ever hated anything more, I went in already hating him but this just compounded it. Literally anythings possible if Scab can call himself a comedian.
Chappelle’s still funny but is getting annoyingly preachy, which sucks because i don’t think he’s very insightful when he does it anyway
His style is exactly the same.
America is fucked with how serious they take stand up specials.
Off to see Andrew Schultz tonight I cannot wait for him to rip into the first heckler.
Bryan Callen was on the 2Johnnies on Monday, never knew he even did stand up. He's a mad cunt.
Just purchased Louis CK's new special.
Chris D'elia getting shit on
The whole LA comedy/podcast Rogan circle are infuriating.
I have a friend who lives [illegally] in Los Angeles, and his estranged [scam] wife claims to be a stand-up comedian. The way it works is that they all just perform at the same crap venues, and then go on each other's podcasts to talk about anti-depressants. Ten years down the line, three of them have become famous, ninety-nine per cent of them have moved on and got proper jobs, and the only people left on the 'scene' - and who haven't actually got any funnier - are people like Chris D'Elia and Marc Maron, which gives them sufficient name recognition to be a big noise.
There's only been about 3 funny Americans in history.
Patrice O'Neal is probably the American comedian I've laughed at most.
Hedberg is great as well if you're in the mood, it's a bit much if you're not really ready for manic one liners..
Rob Delaney's show on Amazon is good.
Actually, Norm MacDonald is probably my favourite American comedian, just in terms of how naturally funny he is (not a huge fan of his stand up shows).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL0WayC7jW0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mhUIIhcTb8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-9wo_apQ1s
Norm is a proper piece of shit. Funny, though
I've just turned on an episode of this Frankie Boyle revolution shite and whatthe sweet fuck is this thing...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosie_Jones_(comedian)
She might be an outstanding writer for all I know but fucking hell :D
Take it to the Shameful Lustage thread.
I saw the back end of a Jon Richardson thing a few weeks ago that was pretty good, so I watched that sitcom that his very Hull wife wrote and that was alright as well, even though her stand-up is atrocious.
I was accidentally exposed to the 'comedy' stylings of Kate Smurthwaite the other day through Come Dine With Me Couples on Netflix, absolute cringefest. The best bit being that it was filmed five years ago and since then she has ditched her dogsbody boyfriend so she can be in an open relationship with a load of other geezers :D
You like James Acaster m8.
i just listen to this https://www.earwolf.com/show/conan-obrien/ while i'm at work, and it keeps me happy
I've watched a couple of Rich Hall's documentaries (The Red Menace and Presidential Grudge Match) and it reminds me how good he is at that. Although the couple of minutes where he raps in one of them is agony.
This Rose Matafeo standup (Horn Dog) on BBC currently is giving me a headache. Thanks for listening.
I caught Fern Brady on Live at the Apollo before Newsnight and it wasn't even comedy.
I struggle with standup anyway (the whole 'I'm funny, so listen to this' conceit it's based on doesn't pull me in) but box-ticking BBC standup is a crime against entertainment.
Stand-up is for people that stare at others when they laugh.
I watched the new Dave Chappelle thing, and whilst it isn't bad, I think he is funnier than the material. If somebody other than him was doing it, with the way he tells 'em, it would be a bit meh.
https://louisck.com/collections/sorry
Louis CK's new special is out.
Munya Chawawa is the funniest comedian around right now and has been for a while. As soon as something happens in the news, he's got a joke video out about it - usually in the form of a catchy song. Dunno if it will translate to "stand-up" but that doesn't seem to matter anymore. And his name shouldn't hold him back from being liked by your Bamsters, cos its pronounced like chihuahua; easy.
Think he's on Channel 4 nowadays too, but idk.
Man like Unknown P.
Peter Kay’s just announced a 2023 tour. Glad he’s not dying.
Didn't he disappear because his wife is unwell or something?
He's been given a monthly residency at the London O2. :cab:
There'll be a new Phoenix Nights series before we know it.
They must really struggle to book that place up. The Blackpool Ballroom must've been full.
Is his comedy not a bit dated now? Get a Butlins residency granddad.
Not sure the O2 is the right audience for him, unless there's a shuttle bus there from Halifax town centre.
I'm going to try and get tickets.
Garlic bread
I quite like Peter Kay to be honest. I guess that makes me pretty, like, lame bro.
Peter Kay is class.
He certainly was, but so was Lee Evans once upon a time.
He can just move his act along with the times. Do bits about Britain's Got Talent and the Liberal Democrats.
There can't be much stand-up from twenty years(!) ago that has aged particularly well.
Jim Davidson.
Phoenix nights was absolutely terrific, series one especially. I think there's an argument to be made that it's the best opening series of any British sitcom EVER. It's easily top five for me anyway.
That Peter Kay thing was pretty great too. Max and Paddy was a massive disappointment when I first watched it but now enough time has passed I think it's...well, alright I suppose. I enjoyed his stand up as a kid but I'm not exactly in a rush to buy tickets. Might be alright I guess.
Ticket carnage this morning as predicted.
I missed this at the start of Covid. Tim Key, Alex Horne, and Mark Watson playing a game they made up called No More Jockeys. Funny stuff, especially if you enjoy Tim Keys' brand of humour.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xIulxG7_k8
It's brilliant, I've been watching since the start.
Yep, it's a highlight of every Friday at the moment.
Imagine Peter Kay on Taskmaster.
Some good shit in this, bit spicy so Lemon & Herb brigade may want to swerve.
https://youtu.be/_m-gO0HSCYk
Worth catching Paddy Young on his upcoming UK tour. Saw him last year and he is quite a funny man.
I’ve watched la lot of Paul Smith videos on instagram and, rubbish name aside, his entire gimmick seem to be from interacting with the crowd so I doubt it would translate well to stand-up on TV. You’d really have to watch him live, and hopefully get front row.
'What's that on your 'ead that mate? That 'air is it mate?'
*inaudible*
'You go and get that cut do you mate? Yeah, every few weeks yeah?'
*audience starting to warm up*
'Yeah you pay the barber to cut it mate yeah?'
*audience in bits*
'Yeah bet you fuckin' love that mate gettin' your 'air cut mate.'
*people being given oxygen, some of them dying*
:D
It does look dreadful on the clips.
Just watched Kevin Bridges latest effort and laughed a lot. The Boots story a particular highlight. Very good.
Saw Basic Lee last night. Was pretty good. His routines have become a bit samey, yes, yes, I know that is a silly thing to say, although I always struggle to tell whether I've seen some of the material before and where. His audience also seems to have either changed quite a lot demographically, or has aged terribly. I don't think, as a 42 year old, I should have been one of the younger people in there. I blame the whole Brexit/Grauniad article gig thing, he now has a whole constituency who have no place actually being at one of his gigs and he plays to it terribly. I know that's always been a thing but it's too performative now. He also sort of lost it at a phone user which, whilst usually part of the show, I'm not sure it entirely was as it came right near the end of a massive set piece build up and he essentially flounced off to the interval instead of finishing it.
It also finished with a weird thanks for coming I don't really mean it when I'm being mean bit which was odd.
Kevin Bridges also got a mention, a reasonably favourable one.
Kevin Bridges is funny but the way he speaks in four word sentences like some porridge Bruce Lee has always annoyed me.
No mention of Shindig?
Outside of that BBC show which was just his standup, Stewart Lee was last on TV when I was 10. I can’t see how you’d expect a young hip audience at one of his shows.
I appreciate that, but at the same time what looked like a majority of pearl clutching pensioners, a pair of them next to me left at half time after ostensibly being offended by some mockery of the royal family, was a bit of a shock.
Stewart Lee's fans becoming what they most feared
Someone check under Boydys bed for Rory Stewarts latest book.
Like I said, I blame his newspaper work more than his critical acclaim. The whole blaming the audience for not knowing what they were coming to see schtik has become reality.
On stage persona Stewart Lee and violently left wing newspaper ranting Stewart Lee are very different beasts, and I've never been quite convinced that either of them are genuine. When you see him interviewed he's a lot more calm and boring which is probably closer to the truth.
Didn't he essentially tip his hand to that when saying the same about Clarkson's columns in his Top Gear bit?
Yeah, it is obviously all an act, both ways, this new show is much jauntier by his own admission and he is/was unable to maintain the dismissive aloofness throughout.
I want to reignite TTH’s beef with Stewart Lee. I walked for miles on Wednesday to go there and it was closed because he was performing there. Tosser. Ended up in a right poncey bar round the corner.
To go where?
Big detail. :D
The Philharmonic in Liverpool.
As a (reasonably) young loony lefty stand up comedy anorak, I honestly think the aging audience is more a symptom of there being a lot of much better comics around.
It's funny cus most of them are clearly fans, and a lot of them were clearly very influenced by/borderline ripping off his material, and he used to be so good, but I dunno, there's about 50 stand-ups i can easilly think of doing funnier material right now.
Comedy is quite a generational thing as well. I wouldn't expect people who are 20 now to be bang into stuff by a man whose formative experiences were under Thatcher and only a few years after the alt comedy boom.
Hmm I dunno, I feel like anyone can appreciate The Young Ones, for example.
I'm going to see Bill Bailey in a few months in Munich speaking of aging left wing comedians.
Ian Stone has started posting some of his clips on Twitter and they're absolutely abysmal. Guess the 'all Jews are funny' stereotype isn't true after all.
Went to see Frankie Boyle last night.
Bit of a weird show format. 15 minutes of Frankie Boyle Jr on support, followed by 'the interval' and then about an hour of the main event. I thought that was a bit short really, but then both were jocks so they were talking a mile a minute. Maybe that's 2 hours of material for normal people. Was pretty decent. Made fun of Rishi being 'wee' which was amusing, sort of showed the danger of touring what I guess was a topical show at one point. Bits about the trucking crisis, albeit another good bit, and Priti Patel felt a bit dated. Crowd was pretty solid dickhead [was in Brighton] and/or had no idea why they'd come. I'm amazed at the number of people who seem to go to these shows for a 'night out' ostensibly completely ignorant of the torrent of filth they are about to witness. No chance for walk-outs though without a break in the main event. Proper old lady in front of me looked horrified throughout. The now apparently obligatory interact with the audience segment was painful. Only arseholes like that, I'm not sure why everyone is stooping to their level.
I saw him last month in Belfast. It was pretty much the same show he did last year (which I was also at) which is probably why it also feels a bit dated.
I still enjoyed it though.
The Belfast shows got a mention in the bit about Ireland.
So erm .... apparently Stewart remembers:
Quote:
One for our boy Shinny, this. Saw Stewart Lee tonight and his Basic Lee show is brilliant. Anyway, stuck around to get him to sign my book at the end and I mentioned that I knew the guy who had called him "an aging cunt with an Eskimo face from the nineties". Brilliantly, he remembered what The Dugout was and then asked me to pass on the fact that some Inuit representative group contacted him because they'd seen his bit talking about it. Apparently they agreed that he had an Eskimo face and invited him to join their group as an honorary representative if it turned out he had Inuit DNA. I asked him if he had taken a test and he hadn't.
:D
Who is the quote from?
This man. I know him on another forum.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKbU8B-QVZk
It remains a great line, I'm not surprised he ran with it.
Another titbit from that gig is that someone interrupted his ending monologue to ask if he had an opinion on Gaza.
Of course he fucking does.
Should have gone to united
