I can't almost understand not being arsed about it. For example, I get offered my Flu jab every year and never take it, just because I can't be bothered and don't see the Flu as a risk to me. To be honest, I'm undecided. I've been ignoring COVID as best I can since late last year, so I may just be speaking out of pure ignorance, but the only reason to get it seems to be for a vaccine passport, which I'm not sure will actually materialise. I more than fancy my chances against COVID should I catch it, so the big question is are other people at more risk by me not getting the vaccine? From what I've read, it seems you can still carry and pass on COVID so surely getting the vaccine is solely about protecting yourself?
If enough of the population becomes immune (whether through vaccination or through having had it), a critical mass will be reached at which point the virus will no longer be able to spread because too many people are immune. Herd immunity. Mass vaccination is about reaching this point. The vaccine protecting you is pretty much irrelevant (unless you're old or vulnerable).
Israel have already got there, pretty much.
You are 80% less likely to catch it after vaccination which will have a big effect on transmission.

The make up of that 74 (e.g. ages, gender) is important to understand if there's a higher risk profile for certain groups and advise accordingly.
There is no advice to give. Unless we develop more effective treatments or vaccines that protect better than 99.999% of deaths then this is it. Even if you found all 74 of those deaths were in a very particular group it would still come out at an incredibly low percentage.

Even if going on holiday wasn't a potential factor I'd have still had the jab. A dose of long COVID sounds really annoying at best and pretty horrific at worst.
I'll be honest, I've struggled to find any historical instances of vaccines handing out long-term side effects. Any adverse reaction seems to come from the first two months. Even so, the bad ones are of a rarity regulators will hand out a warning and let them crack on. Given that our trials started a year ago, you'd think and hope any long-term effects might have been showing up.
And yes, these vaccines have arrived at an incredible pace. A lot of that is out necessity. They have received a mountain of funding and have no shortage of volunteers to begin trials with. Those are the two obstacles that usually stifle vaccine development. With the mass rollout, they have had no shortage of data. We will know any potential long-term effects way sooner.
Got approached this morning by NHS as they needed a muzzy face for their socials but I read the piss-poor script and told Lee to suck me off in the Group. They moved quick tho.

I felt awful yesterday, like I had covid again, woke up today still not feeling great but at about 10:30 it was like someone flicked a switch and I was perfectly fine, very strange. So I’ve took advantage of the day off work by cutting the grass and playing some Football Manager. Put that down as a win for the vaccine!
Mine is tomorrow morning bright and early, my plan to have it at the start of a week was scuppered by the NHS seemingly not bothering before Thursdays in this area.
Had my first jab (Pfizer) last Wednesday. No side effects apart from a sore arm the next day. Second dose of that one is supposedly worse, will get it in a month.
I'm currently experiencing quite some side effects from new antidepressants; I hope that will have worn off by then so that there'll be no overlap between the two.
One thing the jab made me do was focus in on any weird symptom that came along.
I had to leg it home from the park to evacuate my bowel a few hours after my jab. All good aside from that.
I had both my jabs it was all tea and biscuits in a gp surgery kitted out. Dropped the wife off for hers today in Preston and it's a big tent with a 'no weapons, no sharps, no drugs or alcohol' sign and bag search area :D

I did get a bit suspicious about the volunteers, heroic though they may be. How can they all afford to do it?
Alot of employers are giving people time off to do it. One of my Sister in Laws mates does it 2 days a week on full pay.

I was going to volunteer for the commonwealth games next year but it turns out there's way more work than I was expecting in order to get the swanky tracksuit.
Volunteering for sports events is basically a competitive job application. I have a mate who managed to be appointed as a volunteer to drive the umpires around at the Cricket World Cup, and it basically took six months out of his life, particularly after the fallout when Kumar Dharmasena was attacked by a swan.
A fella at work at the time was a London 2012 volunteer, and he made it sound like he was hobnobbing with Usain Bolt and all the gang whereas he was probably just pointing a big sign towards the stadium and trying not to cry as his feet blistered.

I started the application process for volunteering at COP26 a while ago but gave up when I realised I was only on about stage 2 of 5 for what was basically going to be standing at a train station and giving directions.

The pivot from total eligible/worthwhile population to absolute total population is a bit of a weird one on the vaccine front.
Other than an obsession with cases I'm not sure I understand the rationale for vaccinating adolescents, and the very young (under 12) are completely off the menu worldwide aren't they? So other than trying to make vaccination coverage look less, what is the point of the absolute number? A representation of how many children are in a population?
My only guess is to protect the hospital system but Im sure it is more complicated than that.
That 90% figure though for Queensland, it is never going to be reached if it is total population, so hopefully it only refers to eligible population.

I went to the park with my son this morning and there was a mother with her girl who looked about four, both masked up. They packed up and left before we'd even got there when they saw us coming. I can only hope that one of them has some sort of severe immune disease to warrant that level of paranoia at this stage of the pandemic.
I was also told off by a menopausal receptionist at the doctors a week ago because I went in without a mask. It didn't even cross my mind to be honest, it's been months since I used one. I do still see the occasional person wearing them, and I'd say it's still around 50% in supermarkets.
I still store the sense of superiority I get from strolling about in a mask in the supermarket or on trains and use it to drive harder erections in the evenings.
Haven't worn one for ages now. It's a joy compared.
I still need to wear one indoors on campus. That is despite the face that the vaccine is mandatory for students and over 90% of the faculty/staff is vaccinated. :moop:

In local schools we've returned to mask wearing "when moving around the school". So mostly just a pointless irritation then.
Never wear one in the supermarket now and recently was the only un-masked person in the drs - it'd been so long I just didn't have one on me. Nobody said anything though.

Our testing days are Monday and Wednesday. I usually home test. I can't home test on Wednesday because 'now you're on site, we have do it at the office' on health and safety grounds. What bollocks is that? If I test positive in the office, I've travelled in on public transport, met the guys in the testing area and wandered around town for a bit. If I test positive at home, I stay put.
I've maintained masks on the tube but no one on the train to Manchester wore one on Friday (including me, rebel!). Germany are pretty hot on it still so I'll enjoy the brief hiatus.
Im happy to keep wearing them on public transport, in pharmacies and super markets.
I refuse to wear them outside unless I'm standing next to grots at the lights.

I'd be interested to know how the tourist industry has been getting on 'living with covid'. By all reports Port was pretty busy early in the year, but I think a lot of that dried up when the states started preventing travel between them. Unless they're receiving unlimited government support many of those businesses must have gone to the wall.
