Looks nasty. Going to play the first one again before release if it is available on ps4
The first has recently had a 4k makeover on Xbox One X and having just whacked it on it looks facking gorgeous.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQhwEgHri1s
Genuinely looks (almost) exactly the same as the first one.
Still confuses me that people seemingly found the first one anything other than boring.
I didn't finish the first. Loved the world but got to a point where I didn't want to do anything in it.
I started it but I'm not too deep.
This is out Friday. I've got the day off so will be getting balls deep into it :hat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVRzx17WHVk
Argh, I want this so much. Was meant to be holding off till Black Friday to buy a PS4 but tempted to just go get one this weekend.
Going on my luchbreak to get this tomorrow
I'd be surprised if it's that good.
Oh so you could get hyped for shitty Fallout 4 three years ago (I've been reading that thread since I started playing it) but can't get hyped for this?
I was 100% not getting it then I watched the Giant Bomb quick look and now I really want it!
Pre-ordered from Amazon so hopefully it arrives on the right day. I never played the first one, so hopefully that doesn't count against me, but absolutely buzzing for this. Saturday is completely free as well, so will be plundering as much time as possible into it.
Yev hates games that actually work so fair play
Upon launch the there'll be peak bunting but the realisation will set in that it's exactly the same as all the other recent history Rockstar games and that'll be that.
I'm being harsh, and I'd love it to be brilliant, I just know it'll be constrained by its on rails approach to things and naff cut scenes.
Well yes its a Rockstar game I doubt those going into it are expecting anything other than a fantastic world coupled with similar Rockstar mechanics. Just as New Vegas, and Fallout 4 are equally constrained by the same Bethesda nonsense. It isn't aiming to be a new breathtaking experience, its aiming to be the best game that developer feel they can put out whilst still holding it somewhat true to what fans expect of their games. The world is massive, its apparently full of things to do, things to see. It strips back the gusto and sarcasm of the GTA series and allows it to breath., supposed to be a slow burn of a game that isn't afraid to make the player slow things down somewhat. The story arc is, bar criticism from a couple of reviewers, the best they've done so far.
Almost every review is saying its identikit mechanics, but the world that's been created to house that is beyond anything done so far in the medium, and I'd buy into that. Its how much you want to invest into the world, just as Fallout is how much you want to invest into being a character in its world. The former works for me, the latter doesn't. I barely, if ever read/watch reviews and scores are childish bollocks tbf. Give it a 3, give it a 10, who cares.
I'd generally buy into the hype with this, as I did with Breath of the Wild. It even has its own VATs (auto lock on then you can move the stick to refine aim).
I will add that I like the heft behind Rockstar's control schemes though, whilst disliking the heft behind Fallout's. One feels more real to me, the other feels clunky as hell. Similar feeling regarding both game's worlds, one structured and fun to be in, the other tedious and samey.
Woke up early, I’d had a Quidco payout come through into PayPal so I’ve just ordered it to collect today via Argos.
Means a walk into town so I’ll also get breakfast while out. What a Friday!
Same as Boydy, I loved GTA V so much I ended up buying it twice and still play it five years after release. With Rockstar I rein in the expectations of freedom a little (the last GTAs promised some real freeform mission structure that was far more hand-holding) but otherwise it's a formula I know and love already so I'm happy with more of it but fancier.
GTA V was the only Rock Star game I finished.
Anyways, no will power for the win:

Have fun prancing around on horses, gayboy.
90 minutes installation time :|
Is it 100GB?
Should be absolutely massive if so.
Best part of two hours just copying the disc contents by the sounds of it, however long the update download takes as well.
I was going to get this but I'll pass for now. I have unopened games sitting in my pile that I still have to play. Need to get through them.
One of my man's took the day off work to play it ahving got it at midnight. Its like 100 GB to downlaoded and at 1pm today, it was still installing.
Edit: Just been updated, and he still hasnt manged to play it :D
I downloaded 100gb in about three and a half hours the other day, man up lads.
It’s pretty good!
Only just got home so am installing it. I look forward to playing it in 3 weeks.
Mine still hasn't arrived. Postman comes in the AM. It's looking bleak. :nono:
It's a bit involved in places (I'm not sure the emotional state of the tortoise I'm hunting needs to makes that much difference if I'm honest), and the horse is rubbish (just teleport it behind me when I whistle ffs). Other than that it looks pretty good, I played for less than an hour and I actually began to care about some of the other characters (the camp thing is pretty cool), which is a monumental step for a Rockstar game. I'm not sure I get the 'on rails' complaint, it's a huge open world in which mission take place, it's hardly COD.
Think I got the first game somewhere in my bedroom IIRC.
The promotion for this game is staggering. Glad to hear some positive reviews from it.
Was wandering about before and found a body hung up with no legs or head and all bloody. There was writing on the wall in blood, near to the structure holding the body up was a head with a note, also written in blood in its mouth. Yuck!! :cool2:
Two of my mates have been going on and on and on about this today on WhatsApp. Is it that good?
At least it's made them shut up about Elder Scrolls.
Remember when you could just play a game without the fucking about?
Anyway, waiting for a sesh on sunday.
I'll be getting this when I finish Spider-Man I think.
Well that's six hours playing time just flown by. First time a console game has made me do that since Borderlands 2. The world is insanely beautiful.
I'd still take that over wondering if your PC can handle it. Or going back to an old game to realise it doesn't support Windows 8.1.
I am a fan of how customisable the facial hair is.
That's all I wanted to contribute.
Killed the legendary bear got the pelt then got killed on the way back. Fuck knows if I'll get it back somehow.
Finally arrived this morning. Had to pretty much clear out my PS4 to get the cunt on there and now got to wait the best part of an hour and forty minutes for the thing to install.
Turns out 1hr 40min was just for the first disc. Good job I've nothing planned today!
The character feels a bit trundly when moving about so I've changed to first person on foot and third person on horse like with GTAV, but the snap between first and third when you go in and out of cover is bizarrely clunky whereas they had it right before.
Literally just started and I’ve broken it already. Bloke jumps on me in the barn so I deck him, but apparently going in on the cunt wasn’t what I’m supposed to do. Now he’s dead and I can’t get out of the barn. The horse is neighing away at all I want to do is shoot it. I can’t.
Had to start over which was a bit shit, but not much to redo. Managed to not beat him to death this time. Well, until I got the info I needed out of him.
What, it lets you kill a character but it'll leave you stuck if you do?
There must be a way out of that surely, seems a bit of an oversight that early doors.
Well, you're meant to give him a beating, then interrogate him for information. But by the time the NPC had finished explaining that we needed him alive, I'd already beaten him to death. That left me stuck in the barn, block by an invisible force at the door, with the horse neighing constantly. Turns out you need the information he gives you to continue the story.
I was perhaps being a retard, but I couldn't see any other way out of it.
Pretty nice looking this isn't it. Even on my PS4 normal.

We’re just friends.
Some chancer offered to sell me a treasure map. Obvs I just robbed him, only now I can’t read his bloody hand drawn map. Should have just paid up!
Giggles deleting posts. :sherlock:
It’s all a bit slow so far. Just let me properly explore the map ffs.
Got my 150$ horse killed. Ain't getting it back. That sucks
Bumped into the bear, shot a few arrows at it. It killed me.
He got mad that you wouldn't let him into the whatsapp group? [/Giggles]
Tracked the bear, killed the bear, skinned the bear.
Went to buy a train ticket to Saint Denis so I could visit the Trapper. You can’t buy tickets holding the bear skin. Dropped it and bought the tickets. Cut-scene showing my journey on the train. Go back and the bear skin is gone, obviously. Fuck sake.
Named my new horse a don name, Napoleon, then realised it was a fucking female.
Is the game any good then?
It’s a bit of a slow starter, but once you get past the initial ‘setting the story in motion’ sequence and the game opens up, it’s more than enjoyable.
It took a few hours to get into, but I put about four hours into it last night and barely got anything done - there is so much to do it’s unreal. The world is massive as well and I’ve barely uncovered a quarter of the map yet.
So, Arthur and Lennie's night out (A Quiet Time): best mission in computer game history? :D
I still don't understand poker, but my tactic from the first game of just bet massive and everyone folds seems to carry across.
I keep getting ambushed by the O’Driscolls and get my ass handed to me.
Spending all my money on fancy new outfits :lewis:
This is pretty useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadrede...s_i_found_out/
I've only just come down off the mountain but I'm loving this so far. My main takeaway from the prologue is that I'm fascinated by how good the snow looks! I was just just tramping around in it back and forth to look at the nice tracks it left on a couple of occasions.
It was a slow start but I think it set the mood really well. You kind of want to slow down to take the world in anyway. The cast of characters in the gang feel really well fleshed out (obviously we've met a few of them before) and the writing is really good. The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic so far, too.
I created this account for one reason: The controls in RDR2 are real bad, but with tweaking you can make them fine. I am starting to love this game, but the laborious control scheme was seriously getting in the way. These tweaks did a lot for me to get rid of that frustration.
Go into the control settings:
- Go to 'third person controls'
- Change control scheme to 'Standard FPS'. This moves sprint from X to the left control stick. Ironically 'Standard FPS' is what makes moving in third person easier.
- Now go to 'Accessibility', go to 'Running Mode' and change it to 'Toggle to Run'. No more holding down a button to run.
- Now, instead of holding X to jog and mashing it to sprint, you click the stick once to jog, and click the stick twice to sprint. No more mashing a button to sprint. Let off the stick a little and you go back to walking. After 17 years of having to master 'the claw' in Rockstar games I can finally not have to do it.
Some other important recommendations for ideal controls:
- Turn 'Aim/Look Dead Zone' all the way down. This makes the joysticks more responsive.
- Turn 'Aim/Look Acceleration' down two notches from the top. (This is extremely important, and helps with the camera feeling like it's moving through molasses)
- Crank 'Aim Sensitivity' and 'Look Sensitivity' very high, always make sure 'Look Sensitivity' is two or so notches below 'Aim Sensitivity'
- As for 'Aim Assist', I like to keep it one notch above 0. This one kinda depends on you.
- Use these same controls for the first person view, including the 'Standard FPS' control scheme. Cranking up the acceleration is key to making this mode feel 100% more intuitive.
I also recommend going into first person when looting a house. Your default walking speed in first person is faster, and it makes aiming for specific items much less of a slog. It's also weirdly atmospheric and kind of awesome. First person before tweaks felt like a throwaway mode, but i'm kind of enjoying it now.
These settings made general movement through the world so much less sluggish and more responsive. I didn't feel like I was constantly fighting with the controls to have fun in the world.
I can't wrap my head around why Rockstar made the decision to leave the controls as they were. Figuring out how to tweak the sprint settings felt like finding an easter egg the game was hiding from me. I don't get the feeling Rockstar would ever patch in tweaked movement controls like what happened with The Witcher 3, but I hope they do.
Any tips for making money on this? I’m scuttling round with about $90 in my pocket!
Further in you can do home robbery missions. They'll get you some cash. Also bank robbery missions that get you a few thousands.
Go to the burnt down town just to the left if camp and have a look about.
Yeah, that's about Rockstar's level.
In to chapter 4 now, Saint Denis. Felt chapter 3 was kinda rushed.
I got the train to Saint Denis out of curiosity but I think I'm still on chapter 2, the whole thing is moving at a glacial pace which I love as it feels like you're inhabiting an actual world when you play, perfect for just dipping in and out for half an hour at a time.
@phonics stuck with third person in the end, cheers for that though
Game is a masterpiece, the hype is real. Having no issue with the controls, y'all have gimp hands.
Available on Switch? PC? Sounds fun.
I have overcome and control problems pretty quickly. The game is indeed a masterpiece. I love it. The last few evenings I’ve played and not done a single story mission. Just busy being a cowboy.
It’ll come to PC eventually @Pepe but not for a while.
Probably just like GTA V. Took what, five years? By the time it came out I was no longer interested.
There’s a pretty huge bug in the game and I have it. My options are to start again or hope they put a patch out.
My game's not loading!
Edit / https://community.eu.playstation.com...n/m-p/25863372
Thank fuck that worked.
From what I read of this is does look pretty cool.
Is there loads of grinding shit to do outside of the main missions? If so, I'm in.
Tons of it. I’ve played a few hours each night since release and barely touched the missions.
What are the games in the saloons? Please say that Liars Dice is there.
Finished Spider-Man last night so I'll be getting on this in a few days.
I was going to order the digital special edition but the map is making me side towards physical though.
There's dominoes but I haven't seen Liar's Dice. Poker + Blackjack too.
I'm playing dominoes now. Fuck you Abigail.
Some motherfucker tried to steal my horse (Smokey ) and rode away. In a true show of dedication, rather than let Smokey be stolen I...err...shot her in the head, whereby she collapsed and the would-be thief fled. I revived my trusty steed and proceeded to hunt down the scoundrel, hogtie him and then drown him in a river.
Crime is bad, m'kay :dc: (unless I am doing it to buy fancy hats).
Killed the legendary bear. Then killed loads of random animals. Moar killing.
You can drown people in rivers? :D
Jesus.
There's no Liar's Dice, which is a bit shit. There's only Poker, Blackjack, Dominoes and the knife one.
Fuck sake.
I spent hours playing Liar's Dice in the last one, it was fucking amazing.
You can feed dead bodies to pigs as well.

Found myself at a saloon playing poker and then noticed it was getting late and thought I should be getting back to camp for a good few hours' sleep. What is this game doing to me
Restarted yesterday to avoid the chapter two camp bug and am glad I did. A pain losing so many hours of play but nice to get a full camp. Here’s what you do to avoid it for anyone just getting it.
1.Save at start of chapter 2.
2.Talk with John,Abi,Jack and sadie.
3.Sleep until night to make sure they are still there
4.Do any mission EXCEPT UNCLE mission.
5.Go back and see if they are still there.
6.Enjoy the game.
Fuck a restart for the sake of a couple side missions.
I was only on Chapter Two anyways so I didn’t mind. I’ll spend a few nights exploring and should be set.
Is there much camp improvement micro management? I love that shit.
A little. It's mainly just earn enough cash to pay for upgrades, you don't really do much. There's a few chores and some strategy around the sequencing, but it's not exactly your kind of thing.
It's a fun game but there isn't the kind of min/max grind stuff. It's a cohesive world with less of the zany R* stuff (but some). Overall it's an astonishing piece of work, so far.
I'm off next week, so I'll be on it then.
Downloading the digital version now
Nice one. Read my post about how to start chapter 2 to avoid a bug
Fuck the O'Driscolls.
I spent way too much time getting the White Arabian horse but it really is a thing of beauty. If you don’t have it go and get it (it’s also the best horse in the game supposedly, or at least in the early game).
There's some proper grim moments in this. In RhodesToggle Spoiler
Also don't forget that in case you fail the mission from UNCLE, you HAVE to choose "restart mission" instead of "restart from checkpoint". Doing the latter (also) causes the bug. I had to restart because when I did the chase I collided with a farmer and fell of my horse.
I was just after this mission, so I restarted the game, did the above and the 4 are in my camp now.
Literally no idea how you lot are managing to fuck the game up so badly so early. I've just played normally and none of them went missing and they all gave me side missions. Even if they hadn't have been, I would never have noticed.
Another grim oneToggle Spoiler
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57FhFbyq8BM
He really didn't want to give me a lift.
All went tits up from there as I decided to chase him after a while until he got on a horse. I happened to bump into a man and killed him in a fight in the middle of town so the law was after me. Robbed a cart as my horse was a little far away and I ended up going over a cliff killing myself :\
$30 bounty :(
I also restarted, as I was having the same issue as Mike. I don't care though. I'm totally happily to play through what I've covered so far (probably about two thirds of Chapter 2) again. It's that good.
My favourite activity in the new, fully manned camp is to just walk around hitting the "antagonise" button at folk who have pissed me off in some way. I did it to John last night, which resulted in this absolute classic of an exchange:
Arthur (Sarcastically): "Here he is! Father of the year!"
John: "What is your problem, Morgan?"
Arthur: "Why don't you spend some time with the boy? Do something with him! Teach him to swim. Oh wait.....I forgot, YOU CAN'T!"
:D
Lads, I present to you the best way to get away from the bounty hunters:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pIpwU0_1bU
Horse died (my second one) though which is a bit shit.
I then killed a guy and stole his horse but ran into a bride that the O'Driscolls were protecting and only had a shitty .22 rifle so they minced me.
finished chapter 6 last night.
Finished the game now. Now time for 100% completion.
Just got to the bear and almost shat myself.
Finally cleared my $300 bounty (I would have cleared it earlier but some dickheads killed me right after leaving camp, stole some of my money and all the fucking pelts I had saved up) and got the DLC horse which shits on the base one.
The DLC horse is still pretty terrible. The White Arabian is the only horse worth bothering with.
Yeah I know:
https://rankedboost.com/red-dead-red.../horse-saddle/
I'll hunt the Arabian tomorrow.
A mate text me “go here” with no extra info, so I did :-/
https://i.imgur.com/aJZ9Ie5r.jpg
Tried to get the white arabian. Spooked so it ran away. Can't find and the damn thing won't respawn.
Also tried to hun the Legendary Buck but it says it's too much activity in the area. So I'm suppose to kill all the animals there?
It will respawn after a couple of days. Just leave the area and then camp for a few days. It always spawns in the same place.
I got that White Arabian - it's pretty rapid but there's definitely a step back from the Pre-Order Beast as I'd got it fully trained up.
Next job is to start getting serious about hunting in order to start unlocking some of the things via the Trapper. I've not touched the story in about four days
Is some of this stuff as grindy as you're making it sound? Or is it a "Its grind that's fun to me so I'm giving no shits"?
Or not at all?
Wouldn't say there's much grind to it at all - the hunting things are fun and the challenges are pretty entertaining. Hunting for example is: skin three different animals but you have to kill them perfectly (using the right weapons and they have to be the right kind of variant). They're tough to track down and there's some pressure when going for the kill.
If they didn't make you feel like you were immersed in the world a lot of it would feel like mindless busywork, instead I'm sucked in so much I plan a day of fishing and then keep an eye on the time to make sure I get to bed at a decent hour.
Getting this for Christmas. If my holidays get approved at work I'll be off 25th-1st, so hopefully I can get some serious playtime done.
The key is getting the missus to watch me play it and get her interested in the storyline, like when she asked "are you gonna play Fallout tonight? I wanna know what happens to Shaun."
Might be a bit open world, though the random encounters might keep her interested.
Gambler 8 took me 2 hours and 21 minutes of aimlessly clicking x. So much fun.
Thinking about starting this over as I'm not very far but my "good/evil" bar is basically 25% of the way toward evil from center.
At first when I first went into town some guy lost his horses and I brought them back to him. The womens told me how nice I was and that made me feel uneasy like they were talking shit because I helped another human.
Then, when i was in town, I accidentally bumped into somebody and it somehow triggered something and people started shooting at me.
Ever since I've basically been going around robbing and shooting anyone who doesn't greet me in a nice way.
I feel like I have a huge bounty everywhere I go and think I've fucked it.
You can remove bounties easily. Spend all your money or donate it to the camp then cause trouble in the area and surrender to the police. You’ll go to jail for a night but as you have no money they can’t take it. Bounty gets removed anyway.
To be fair, I paid mine off too before I discovered it.
Gambler 10 was a piece of piss compared to 8 and 9.
9 would be near on impossible if not for the fact quitting a game by standing up from the table doesn’t end your win streak.
Fell off my horse and lost the legendary bear pelt :face:
:roflol::lol::baz:
My beloved horse, Sadio Mane, just ran into a train and died in cinematic mode as I did the dishes. I'm heartbroken. He was a good boy, Arthur was always telling him.
Naming a horse after a black man.
Slave owner.
I've named my horse Pleb
Aspirational gaming.
I shot a fox right in its stupid face so I've got a perfect pelt now, unless I'm selling it my only options seem to be to keep it stowed on the horse or drop it. Does they get automatically added to your store somewhere?
If you donate it to Pearson then I think he keeps it for future use, but only if it's on the list of pelts he needs for any of the various upgrades he can craft. You need to buy him the leather crafting tools from the ledger for him to be able to make most of the stuff though, I think.
This game is so good. I'm so into it at this point that I can happily just hang around the camp for a bit, do my chores and chat/listen to people. It's crazy the amount of stuff they've included that just randomly happens there. Uncle getting the banjo out is always a highlight.
The morning after Sean’s party is ace when they’re all hungover.
I keep trying to piss off the little kid.
I just spend 5 minutes walking on him to wake him up but the little shit kept sleeping.
Finally took Jack fishing
Yeah, I liked that bit. His party is probably one of my favourite bits of the game so far, which says a lot about how much fun the NPC interactions are. I got drunk, had a bit of a sing-along, danced with Mary-Beth and then watched Javier play the guitar and sing in something in Spanish. It was ace. :D
They've created such a good cast of characters that I'm not even bored by this stuff. Just hanging around with them feels kind of as essential as doing the missions. It's really good at drip feeding you little bits of information in the narrative too, if you pay attention. You will overhear Dutch and Hosea talking about the old days, or Molly talking trying to tell the other girls about how in love she is and then all just telling her to fuck off because they don't like her anymore, or Dutch will occasionally come out of his tent and start giving one of his "stay together!" speeches and people gather round to listen.
I looked at the stuff Arthur has pinned up over his bed and there's a picture of his old dog, a picture of him, Dutch and Hosea when they were younger and a newspaper clipping about some time they robbed a bank and then gave a load of the money away to local poor people! You kind of get a feel for why he/they are all so enamoured with Dutch and the supposed ideals of the gang, just off the back of little details like that. It's astoundingly well-written.
Just tried the uncle mission and slipped off a cliff.
Shit.
:D
One of my only gripes with it is the movement out in the open. He either ambles along at a snails pace or bursts into a manic sprint if you hold the button down. Which leads to shit like that happening more often than I would like. The fast walk that he does inside should be an option everywhere.
The most annoying gripe for me is the number of times I've come out of a building, pressed triangle to get on my horse and accidentally choked some random cunt and built up a bounty....
That or the amount of times I run headfirst into a tree while on my horse.
:D
I accidentally shot my gun earlier in Valentine.
Went off in the ground but I had to run from the law ofc, wankers.
I bet if it had killed a black man I'd have been given a medal.
Some guy robbed me earlier so I blow his brains out and I'm the bad guy? Bullshit.
Stand your ground's about 200 years off.
Saw a big old racist in St Denis and tackled him to the ground and then knocked him out (you don't kill them by punching right?). Turned round and a lawman was stood watching the whole thing, not moving. Looked at me and said 'hope you've got a good explanation for that blood on you'. Clearly I'm in with the bent coppers on my first day in town, nice.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s online multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, will go live on Tuesday, Nov. 27, Rockstar Games announced today.
Rockstar will launch Red Dead Online in beta form on Nov. 27, and it will initially be accessible only for owners of the Ultimate Edition of Red Dead Redemption 2. The following day, the beta will open up to those who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on its first day of release. On Thursday, Nov. 29, those who played the game in its first three days of release will get access. Then, on Friday, Nov. 30, online multiplayer will open up for all Red Dead Redemption 2 players.
Red Dead Online has been described by Rockstar as “an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways.” Players will be able to explore the online experience solo or with friends, and Rockstar promises “constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.”
Red Dead Redemption 2’s online multiplayer mode will be free and available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PS4 version of the game will have select exclusive content for Red Dead Online.
I hope they add a option in the multiplayer of this to stop players just shooting each other. Went to a general store to buy a new outfit, got killed about 10 times :(
Finished! Kind of.

I still haven't played much of this, but I stumbled across this video earlier which summed up perfectly why I got bored of GTA IV and V so quickly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvJPKOLDSos
They're struggling to utilise the open world, definitely. LA Noire didn't really need it and I've never had the option to slap a tank in my garage and rule Liberty City for so long.
Its installed.
Any tips? Is that GAME BREAKING BUG (disappearing mates) fixed now?
Yeah, it’s fixed
Played two hours of this tonight and fuck me it was shit.
Half of that must have been awful cutscenes, interspersed with horseriding in formation, with awful dialogue and the rest shooting sections with mechanics lifted straight from its 8 year old predecessor.
Your character also moved so slowly and it takes about 30 seconds to loot a chest.
For those of you that loved it (all of you?) did you find the start to be poor and then it improved greatly?
It's a slow game - it's not Call Of Duty or whatever. Things take longer and I like it more for that. The controls are a bit finicky in some places (hitching your horse and picking stuff up specifically).
I'm still playing it and really enjoying it. Some really interesting story elements as it gets closer to the first game and the plot points start to sync up.
Yea, I found the start to be a bit shit, but then it improved. That said I fully agree with most of what was said in the video you posted, but the story was good enough to make up for it.
I had exactly the same reaction as you have here, the controls in particular felt unwieldy for a little bit longer once the game opens up but that went away in no time.
You'll still have the odd occasion where you end up battering someone and having the law after you when you wanted to say hello that reminds you it's still not perfect.
Should've rode that person out of there, to be honest.
Finished Chapter Three

Finally managed to put a few hours into RDR2 this weekend and I’m enjoying it. Even on a non-Pro PS4 it looks magnificent, and I spent a good five minutes stomping around in mud and dropping bodies in it, just because it looked cool. Sound was a bit off though.
I’m really not very far into it and I’ve been picky about the missions I’ve done, so I’ve barely been into my camp. This means I don’t know who anybody really is yet, or where things are, but I’m sure that’ll come with time.
Some bloke asked me to find some old retired “gunslingers” so I went and found them all and took photos. Not sure what to do next- I find this happens quite a lot so no doubt google will come to the rescue. Like I found two lads trying to open a safe with an axe so I killed them and then loaded about a hundred bullets into it and it didn’t budge. Google said use dynamite, whoops. Turns out I had some dynamite but didn’t know because I’m still getting to grips with the wheel system. Also nearly died in the cold looking for one of the gunslingers because I wasn’t sure how to change my outfit while out in the wild. Google saved me there and I’ve now saved the dapper outfit I bought from the tailor so can hopefully switch between the two now.
Is there a downside to wearing the mask all the time? Looks cool but don’t want to put it on and then people to be scared of me, like when I tried to drop a dead bird on a fire that me and some newly found mates where sat round (they watched the cross about 200 bullets) and they all went crazy and ran away – I just wanted someone to cook the bird while I made arrows! Might try the mask on tonight and see what happens.
Also made mates with some bloke who takes photos of wildlife. Idiot got me mauled by wolves. Nice to already have recurring characters though, and I’m only 19% in according to my save file.
Some of the mechanics are slow going. Looting takes forever – oh and don’t even get me started on the “game” for the Gambler 2 task. Blackjack is bad at the best of times but having to sit through three other random cowboys playing their hand; god! Thankfully got the 5 double down wins or whatever but jeez it was tough going. Thankfully I was in and out the kitchen so just ran in tapped x/triangle and then back to preparing burgers for a minute while everyone else had their turn. But yeah trying to target a pot of ground coffee in a tent is very hard.
I’ve made sure to skin everything I kill but keep getting a message saying I’m unable to take everything cos my satchels full. Apparently I need to travel to a “fence” to sell off all the stolen belt buckles and pens, so that’s on tonights agenda. Hopefully he’ll serve me in my balaclava.
Can you cut your hair? I’ve shaved my beard off but want a bald head. I put some pomade in that I robbed out of a tent, but not keen on the look. I know it’s an unimportant part of the game but I wish your appearance was more customisable. I think I’ll rock a ‘tache (hopefully it can go longer than #4? The scale suggests so but it’s been a while) and bald head if possible. Like my Trevor on GTA. Pity there aren’t more beard/moustache styles though.
But yeah, fun game. Ideally I wanna spend like ten hours straight on it but work and child prevent such fun. Oh, and cooking. I’ve died loads too, mostly from people beating me up and getting hit by trains. My bounty is up to $110 too cos I killed some lawmen because my horse died and I wanted theirs, without realising they were police, so I think I’ve messed it up. I did have $110 at one point, but spent it on nice clothes.
You thought gambler 2 was bad? Just wait for 9 or whatever the last blackjack one is. That one takes hours.
I'm not sure if you can actually die to the cold, because I did the same thing, and just kept going for ages and nothing happened. It may be possible, but it must be really tough to do.
I'm not sure about wearing a mask all the time. Supposedly, doing bad things while wearing a mask will stop you losing honour, so presumably you may not gain honour for helping people in a mask, but again, not sure.
The last Blackjack mission is to win 3 hands while you have 5 or more cards, it's taking the piss, especially when you get 20 with 5 cards and the dealer gets 21.
Going to a fence is definitely worth it, you'll get a lot of money for that shit, and be able to carry more. The pen is a 'unique' item so I never sold mine, but also never found anything to do with it. Ultimately, you don't really need money, so it's not worth selling something you may need, but all the buckles etc can be sold.
You definitely can cut your hair, and in one mission you have to. You just visit a barber.
You can also get rid of a bounty for free by spending all your money (or giving it to the camp) and then getting arrested in the location where you have a bounty.
To look around at stuff to pick it up easier, hold L2 and then use the right stick to flick between targetable objects.
I'm at Chapter 6 now, and wanting to get through the rest of it soonish. Still enjoying it immensely though.
Looks absolutely fucking unreal at 4k 60 PC High settings.

Right, now I'm nearly off the hamster wheel that is FIFA, I'll be making a start on the back catalogue I have.
First up is this, well, it would be if I'd ever finished its predecessor, so Red Dead Redemption 1 is where we'll start.
Just finished nailing Bonnie on horseback and now I'm off to see a sheriff.
I'm herding cattle now and dare I say it, the story isn't dreadful so far too.
This is actually quite good.
Maybe I'll crack on it like you. I've basically dipped in a few times and found myself not being hooked enough.
The first one? I may move these posts into a separate thread if so.
And don't worry, Fallout 4 is still going.
Second one - god damn you. The first one is fun.
The intro bit in the second one drags on a bit but once it starts opening up it's absolutely immense. Sure you'll be in for the ridiculous hunting accomplishments in it, Yev.
