Just seen this. I was going to get the Nintendo mini but might hold off for this.
I'm very much interested.
Any price rumours?
Is it a game or system? Always interested in some Nintendo.
System. Looks like its combining their handheld and console markets with a modular tablet thing. Looks interesting but might be too big for a commute. What I'd really like is for them to crack wide-open their Virtual Console pricing.
Ah right. Fuck that so. I want to see a proper system I can play on my TV rather than this mobile gaming shite.
You can play it on the TV.
https://youtu.be/f5uik5fgIaI
Yea it's a proper console that turns into a handheld, like the Wii-U but taken one step further. Looks amazing to be honest. That Zelda game is going to be immense too.
The thing to consider is where it's getting the power from. Is it a low resolution screen that when docked uses the a CPU in the base to upscale it? Or is the power in the tablet bit with a terrible battery time? I don't see how they can have both.
Looks awful. Having all these interchangeable controllers, screens is an absolute nightmare. Nobody will even use the mobile system, it just isn't practical.
Nintendo are a fucking car crash who don't realise their time is done. Make games for mobile or eat shit and die. No-one will buy your bullshit hardware any more outside of Japanese deviant and Cheetos-fingered Reddit man-children
The problem is it isn't a handheld console, it is a games console which becomes portable for whatever reason. Have you seen the size of the fucker? No one is going to lug one of those around, bearing in mind they more than likely already have a phone and/or a tablet. Also having those little side controllers which can detach is stupid, firstly because they seem to be designed for tiny hands and secondly because they will easily get lost.
Whatever wanky new bollocks Nintendo comes up with won't matter as long as they can get developers and publishers on board with some decent games, plus it'll sell eleventy million in Japan anyway.
I will make one prediction, I bet they're hard to get hold of at release. Not because it'll be that popular but because they'll under-produce it so there's lots of stories about how it's sold out everywhere.
It looks the same size as a Kindle or an iPad mini...
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/1...sual-analysis/Quote:
That analysis shows the Nintendo Switch has a roughly 6.5" screen and individual controllers slightly smaller than those on the NES.
So about an inch bigger than an iPhone 7 plus. FUCKING HUUUUUUUUUUGE.
Much too big to be playing games with a controller input method. Maybe once I get my hands on it and give it a go, it might be fantastic to use, but at the moment it looks like it will be a pain.
Then dock it to your TV and play with a normal controller?
Did anyone get one?
Not yet as there's about 3 games including Just Dance.... but I will get one when there's enough games to make it worth it.
My friend got one on launch & he's coming round with it tomorrow evening, so it'll be interesting to see how amazing Zelda is, and how shit everything else is.
I really think they've botched it yet again here. One notable title at release (although Zelda is a console seller) and they've priced it about £50 too high.
Plus I've been hearing horror stories about the memory, only 32GB and can only be expanded through SD Cards.
I want one. Really, really badly. As a PC gamer the consoles offer me nothing outside of the odd exclusive but the idea that I could bring this to work and just play Zelda, which coincidentally looks like one of the coolest games ever, on my lunchbreak is enough to make me consider taking the dive. Even at that awful price. I'd be fine with the price if you got the Pro Controller as well but the fact that you don't get a game let alone the controller is just mental.
Jesus, it's £280? For some reason I had it in my head it was around the £220 mark especially as one of the websites was doing it for £198 as a pre-order.
I'll be waiting for some deals then.
Mario Kart is a re-release of 8 which I hated. Splatoon is a crap shooter. No idea what Marios going to be like. It's a bit shite really.
So far so Nintendo. Still at least you can pay for a 30 year old rom that you get to keep for a whole month!
I'm also willing to bet that Zelda has a dungeon where you lower the water level and one based around switches that change the landscape around in some way, because they all do.
Chance of playing pirated games on it though like the DS with flash cards?
I'm waiting til they do a revision.
I've just bought a second hand Wii U with Pro Controller for £150. Guy I know was sent two copies of the new Zelda due to Amazon fuck up, so he's lending me his spare.
Just get a cheap Wii U and play Zelda, there's barely any fucking difference between the two bar Wii U is 720p, Switch is 900p(!). Joke of a machine.
Also, the frame rate is horrendous on the new Dragon Quest, its not even an intensive game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbRA1mCbrac
I got one. It's incredible. What a solid piece of tech. If it came with Twitter and a SIM slot I could almost consider getting rid of my phone.
Where did you steal it from?
From this month on, I'm debt free. 2 years of back taxes, 4 months of rent and another grand in living expenses paid off in 6 months.
I'm in the green baby
Are there any non-Zelda good games out for it yet?
Puyo Puyo Tetris?
Finally picked one up today as Smyths Toys had a bundle with Zelda. It's amazing.
My brother brought his Switch over. Mario Kart is great.
I might have to pick one up in a few months but that would mean no PS4 Pro for me right now (my current PS4 is louder than Magic's wife with the kickboxer).
Who has got one then? Get your friend codes out
Will find mine in a bit.
Friend code is SW-5338-9618-7876
Just pricing up a bundle here - might pick one up next week. Apart from the console + games, what other shit do I need? A docking station seems pretty essential. Anything else? Chargers/batteries/other portability-enabling things?
I'm kinda in the same boat. If I get anything, it'll be storage. The thing comes with a dock as standard.
A pro controller maybe?
It comes with a docking station. The only thing I'd recommend is getting some form of pro controller for when you're sitting down. The rest is just nonsense they sell to idiots.
Edit: there is one thing, a micro SD card for storage. Make sure to check the type though as Nintendo only accepts certain ones.
Alright cool, thanks chaps.
If it comes with a docking station, why are they selling this: https://www.game.co.uk/en/nintendo-s...tation-1891389 ?
A case with slots for your games and one of these stands for train journeys - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01...w4L&ref=plSrch better viewing angles than kickstand and let's you charge whilst playing.
I've never had the joycons die on me yet, so I'd recommend holding off on buying batteries, see how you get on without.
Yeah and theyre so light (it's literally a cheap piece of plastic with a couple of ports in)
+1 for the stand that Sama has linked.
I also bought this controller https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hori-Ninten...ct_top?ie=UTF8 It's not a mental price like the actual Pro controller, still licenced by Nintendo and feels good.
As for SD I went for this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Carry case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Orzly-Carry...rds=ozrly+case
No motion control on that though, right?
No.
I use it for Zelda (joycons for Mario) and hate the game with motion anyway.
Or rumble which means you can't do certain bits of Mario Odyssey. It's not a great controller either.
It works fine, I don't use it for Mario (I like the joycons for that) and I'm not going to spend £60 on a controller.
Consider me on the bandwagon, gents. I bought one of these this morning. I haven't touched the Xbox (for gaming) in months, I needed something new.
If you’re using it as a portable just buy a wall charger for about £20. You won’t need another docking station.
I didn’t even think of upgrading the SD.. may look into that.
Picking one of these bad boys later today. First console since the 64.
Think I'll go for Mario and Mario Kart for now. Or should I do Zelda instead of Mario?
I am assuming I can plug this thing to a PC monitor, right? Not sure I'll have much access to the TV.
As long as it has a HDMI, sure.
I prefer Mario to Zelda but DS sides with Zelda.
Can't rally go wrong with either and Mario Kart (which I picked up the other day) is my favourite since 64.
Shit, just checked and it's VGA only. :face:
You can buy VGA to HDMI. Won't look great though.
It's perfectly good in tablet mode tbh. I spent a good 50-60% of the time spent with Zelda in handheld mode.
One of these should do the trick, right?
https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/b59...0&odnBg=FFFFFF
EDIT: Cheers phonics.
FFs. Let me check.
It says DVI-D in and VGA in so I should be good.
Just thought of something else, I am also going to need speakers, right? Tossed mine away not that long ago. :face:
I don't even know where the monitor's power cord is. :eyemouth:
Just get a TV cunt.
Why are people on about getting extra hardware for this? At the price does it not fucking come with what you need to play it?
Of course it does, some people are just full kit wankers about the thing.
The docking station needed to play on TV is included. It also includes a stand, but the stand is a bit shit, so you can buy another one if you prefer. The stand is only used to.... well... stand the thing up on a table or whatever when you're playing on the move.
Ah, so the dock that you slot it into that (presumably) has a HDMI connected permanently to the telly is included? That's not so bad then.
At this stage I've just to tell the Mrs whether I want this or something else for Christmas. I can't think of anything else I want but to buy a console at my age seems a bit odd.

Why is it odd? People of all ages game ya fanny.
You're a very strange person.
They are. I was trying to google something about pes18 over the weekend about player switching being crap. Found numerous forums but does anyone play the game? Do they fuck, they just seem to buy scratch cards and get players from 40 years ago to go in their teams they never use. All aimed at the attention span of a rat.
Christ, just look at the FIFA thread here. I don't think anyone has kicked a ball on it yet. Everything seems be bullshit career mode sports or paint by numbers first person shooters where you just die and reappear an infinite number of times. That's what got me interested in the Switch, it looks as though they might actually have spent more than a week on game design.
So your basing a judgement on the majority of gaming off two shite level franchises? Never change lad.
Play Souls, play Borderlands, play Titanfall 2, play Prey, play Deus Ex, play anything.
First link in google for opinions about PES18:
https://www.reddit.com/r/WEPES/comme...s_saying_here/
Ye old fucker.
Lads I heard an ed sheeran song last night why is all of modern music shit
As if I'd try follow the popularity contest that is a reddit 'thread'
That said, the title is apt because the gameplay is shit. Luckily for Konami, nobody plays the actual game and they just buy cards or stickers.
Good shit right there.
So, Mario Kart. First, how stupid is it to have that auto-steering shit on by default? I could tell there was something odd but then I thought that's how the game was nowadays. Only noted such crap existed after over an hour in. Second, is it just me, or are the circuits much shorter than they used to be? It's still a really fun game.
Giggles you queen. I'm 35 and still play games. You can't be much older.
Yev is also the one who has played the most FIFA games (he's played over 300 games ffs) and he's about 50.
It's 320 for one of these + Mario Oddyssey + Mario x Rabbids at Tesco this weekend.
Don't be a div, it's the least correct thing you've ever posted on this website.
So people actually play matches on FIFA and PES? Do they bollix.
Myself and @Baz play so much Pro Evo we made a highlights package of the last game. Baz will be along to tell you how many seasons into our Master League we got.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9Nt7OK3NKQ
I play matches. I've still yet to get on Superstar difficulty, though.
Any other Switch game recommendations?
I’ve got Super Mario, Mariokart and Zelda coming today.
Anyone tried Skyrim, Doom or Streetfighter? Wonder if Fifa will be any good.
Street Fighter is meant to be a dud. Have you played/got the others your suggested on any other platform?
If you haven't played Skyrim, I imagine it'd be amazing. It's such a huge game. And Doom is boss too if you haven't played. Giantbomb have done quicklooks of both:
Skyrim: https://www.giantbomb.com/videos/qui...ch/2300-12651/
Doom: https://www.giantbomb.com/videos/qui...ch/2300-12639/
Street fighter: https://www.giantbomb.com/videos/qui...le/2300-12087/
Yeah I’ve played Skyrim before.
Hoping it plays as well on a Switch.
There's no mods for it (so Bethesda gonna Bethesda and you may hit a bitch of a bug after putting 100 hours into a save), but the game is awesome.
Are there plans to release Fallout 4 on this?
Stardew Valley looks great.
Reminds me of Harvest Moon on previous consoles.
Love that tacky shit :D
Golf Story.
Steamworld Dig 2?
What is the consensus on memory cards for this? I've seen the one Mahow posted previously and it seems a good price, but are there any others people recommend?
Octopath Traveller seems interesting. It’s only a free demo so far but there’s probably 90 mins or so of game play there so worth a look if you like RPGs.
I think once I'm done with Mario and Zelda I'll get on that Mario+Rabbids thing plus maybe Golf Story, which looks right up my alley. Xenoverse (?) something is supposed to be good too, isn't it?
Why does it look like something from a NES?
Because it is an 'indie' game made by someone in his basement.
I did wonder what Fry was up to.
I will admit, the one issue I ran into seemed to be a bug or me being dumb and not being able to progress past the third level. It's probably the latter.
It's surprisingly funny for a game that presents itself as a Golf game. I actually laughed out loud at one point which is pretty good for reading text.
The reason it looks like a SNES game is two-fold, it's cheap and it's an homage to old games but mainly it's cheap.
edit: Oh and Sonic Mania is fucking banging.
I just got Golf Story and I'm textbook sucked in.
Most people have been raving about this series. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenoblade_Chronicles)
It's like another Final Fantasy if your into that.
Added Mahow, anyone else got a friend code to share?
Mine is 0626-8808-8874
We'll surely be able to get enough of us to create a room for some Mario Kart.
Thursday mine will be here. Defo keen for some Mariokart.
I'd be up for some Mario Kart but the first (and only) time I tried to play online I kept getting errors. I'll look for my friend code later.
You guys better all still be super into this in a months time.
Are there multi player options without having to play online?
On Mario Kart?
You can use split screen on a TV or you can do local play.
I was playing my nephew using local wireless, both on the same network one of us made a room and then we could play each other on our own Switches.
I never really mentioned it to the Mrs again that I'd changed my mind and she's gone and ordered me one :uhoh:
Can't wait to red-shell the heck out of you.
That wont happen, it's not like anyone actually plays it.
Especially not with dirty Mexicans, right?
I'll smash fuck out you all on MK. Bring it dickheads.
lel, you've got nae chance.
Two boys in my class are getting a Switch for Christmas. They were talking about what games they wanted. I'm now the coolest teacher in the world in their eyes after I said I would also be getting one. :D
I mocked them for not getting Mario and Zelda.
Fuck knows mate I haven't turned it on in about ten days. I'll check tomorrow as five steps is too far away.
It’s here and it’s glorious
Not got internet in the new house yet. Will do when it’s installed.
Shame I absolutely hate MarioKart really or I could have finally done a bit of TTH community gaming.
Anyone got Rocket League on this?
I heard it wasn't the best version of it but I'll pick it up if others do.
Yeah, I could see myself picking it up if the TTH interest is there.
I've got it and it's the same. Only people who will notice any difference are nerds.
So, only Randrew.
Is cross-platform a proper thing yet? Or still a no for matchmaking?
http://rocketleague.wikia.com/wiki/Cross-platform_play
Still the shit halfway house.
Haven't they made enough money on chuffing crate keys and people (sorry, 'How) buying shit Batmobiles yet?
I bought it by selling those shit trading cards, I regret nothing.
Edit: In regards to the transaction ofc, I regret plenty in my life :(
It gets worse.
https://youtu.be/anDYwawZpZs
£10? lol.
It's properly disgraceful.
Good game though
This is alright. The cable length is bollocks, though. I had bother with my PS4 trade-in because there's a rattle in the pad (It's the end of a needle that snapped off inside. Whoops.) but the main thing is getting rid of the console.
It's murder, they wouldn't take mine purely because one of the feet is missing.
It can cause games to get scratched.
Yet none of the hundreds of fucking games I traded to them used in the system was ever scratched.
Sama, I'll be getting it today. Hit me up after the Arsenal match.
What's this shit about having to buy stuff after you've already bought the game?
All Switch games aren't like those crappy mobile in-app-purchase games are they?
Sure.

Phonics, you will hate the game initially btw, steepish learning curve - the control seems ridiculous at first and just hitting the ball feels like some kind of victory, but stick with it.
I have no idea where my mic is btw.
The manager was dealing with it and mentioned the six month warrantee they give used consoles. Basically, they want to take no chances in case it knacks inside six months and they have no stock to replace it with. To be honest, a second pad for my PS4 helps me take on couch-only stuff for reviews. And I use one for the PC as well.
Where did you trade yours in at? Game?
Are CEX any better at taking them on?
Grainger Games. They're my only option in town for new stock. Would've got £130 back (credit) if they took the pad. Without it wound up being £88 off. CeX would've probably taken the lot off me with no questions asked for an extra fiver but they sell used Switches for £330.
Just tried 3 games to get back into it. Jesus fuck, it felt like I've never played it before.
Did get 2 goals and an assist (should have been mine, I pool shotted a teammate into the ball) in the last game though.
Took me about 3 games to remember there are two different cameras and that using both is pretty essential.
Yeah, I left it on ball cam a bit too much.
I was also using the default camera settings which are shit.
I'm at the very end of Mario. Will be on Rocket as soon as I complete it.
Really annoying being at rookie.
About 95% of the players I'm matched with are constantly running to the ball. I've lost count the amount of times I've been lurking at the 'edge of the box' attempting to line up an air shot only for a teammate to ram the shit out of me.
I tend to be the one at the back if you're in with that type of crowd.
Loading it up now. Anyone else playing?
Sorry Sama, I was watching something.
On now.
Back in 5.
Phonics is online now too so we wont have to keep playing the same 2 dickheads.
We need a chat system so I don't need to tell everyone in the game that I need a shit.
What a goal btw
I'm on Discord as I have two screens, can only type though.
We were on a Twitch channel with TWO viewers!
4 of us with Rocket League now. @Adamski will you be buying it? Only £15. Be good if we get enough to play 3v3 without outsiders.
Yeah that console cannot handle 4v4.
P.S. I'm claiming skills at that game. Couple of god like clearances and at one point rammed Mahow in the arse so hard he scored a goal.
When re we doing Mario Kart then? Not sure I can be bothered with Rocket League.
When there's more than two of us I guess.
I can play tomorrow probably.
I wonder how many people expecting Mario Odyssey this Christmas will accidentally end up with Kingdom Battle.
I saved any confusion by putting both on my wishlist
Tried it in handheld for the first time today. It's alright but having my hands that far apart is weird. I'm using Z to just reset the camera behind Mario instead of the right stick which just feels awkwardly out of the way.
Absolutely destroyed it in casual mode only to collapse when the pressure was on in ranked.
GAME are trying to sell Rocket League for £50. If anyone has bought that they need locking up.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2, christ this JRPG is JRPG as fuck. 6 hours in, still getting tutorials.
I used to love RPGs during the SNES era but then they got way too fucking long.
They were always fucking long, you just had more free time. I tried to find a pic that conveyed how Japanese this game is and literally the first picture under 'Xenoblade Chronicles 2' can't be beaten. Meet the two main characters, Priya (some sort of half human half ghost thing that lives inside a sword) and Rex who is... Welsh?
https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...lsm1axhrss.png
Is that how the EU negotiations are supposed to go?
Oh by the way the place they're standing in is basically our concept of eden which Rex got transported to when a ninja by the name of Jin who looks like this:
http://nintendochitchat.com/wp-conte...cles-2-Jin.png
murdered Rex after touching the magical sword that the busty lady above lives in.
Why arne't they in Eden you ask? Let's consult the wikipedia
Titans are big dinosaurs and entire cities live on their back. Basically nothing makes sense.Quote:
According to legend, the people of Alrest originally resided with their creator, the Architect, in Elysium, atop the World Tree. However, for unknown reasons, they were later expelled from the land. The Architect then sent the Titans to save them, and since then the Titans have been the home to all inhabitants of Alrest. However, the Titans are not immortal, and eventually they will perish and sink beneath the Cloud Sea.
Is it fun? Turn-based combat?
I heard from some sources Wii/Gamecube games are getting HD remasters
Toggle Spoiler
It's weird. It's real time but The basic attacks are automated by standing next to the enemy like an MMO, you then build up meter by auto attacking which eventually gives you access to 3 other skills that do more damage/other effects based on your point of attack (by pressing x, y or b) and if you time them correctly you get a boost to your special. Once you've built up enough special meter, you press that and a quick time event pops up which determines damage. Based on whether the enemy you're fighting is weak to that special you can then chain it with party member specials for extra damage.
That's literally the simplest way I can put it and I'm 6 hours in...
I think if I actually understood what was going on it might be good but at the moment I'm just lost. This isn't helped by the fact that I'm still in tutorial mode.
I also got repeatedly killed by a lvl 81 ape called Territorial Joe while I was level 6 trying to head to a main quest. This games weird.
I just got to the city where it isn't an airship. How long till I understand what I'm doing?
I think I'll pass on that one.
Any MEGA games coming soon?
I suppose the new Metroid Prime is the next MEGA game. Not sure that's any time soon though as they didn't actually have any footage for E3, just the reveal.
Phonics and I actually won a 2v2 ranked match on RL, now I can't sleep, clearly too pumped.
Never played Metroid. Seeing how slowly I am making progress in Zelda, that one might last me until the next console comes out.
Yeah, I'm tackling Mario a few moons at a time. It was always going to be that way. My backlog is on other consoles and will remain that way. Metroid Prime doesn't even have a date so maybe late next year, if we're lucky. A Nintendo Direct is planned for January, though. Apparently there's a Pokemon announcement coming. The rumours circulating around From Software are gathering pace. If a Souls game came to the Switch, I'd bite.
Fuck all that! Bayonetta 3!
I've never played them. Hopefully they'll put out the remasters.
You're in luck. All three of them are coming.
Just asked for Mario Kart for Xmas as there was nothing else I wanted so you lot better still be playing when I get it.
Nobody is because phonics keeps telling them it's shit.
I'll be playing it though.
They've just announced the Switch has sold 10 million units.
To put this in perspective, the PS4 (the most successful console of all time) sold a similar amount including Christmas and they haven't even gotten there yet.
I assume you mean fastest selling across a similar period. It'll pass the Wii U in another 3 million. Shows what having actual stock at launch can do for a company. Plus their release calendar has been nicely staggered.
Sale is on. Rocket league is £11.50 or something, worth it.
I got that Mario and the Rabbits thing. First I thought it was way too easy but now the difficulty has picked up and it is actually quite good. I really enjoy this type of game, might have to get Disgaea too.
There is a switch shaped gift under my tree :D
Congratulations on your new Game Gear.
I bought Overcooked and Lego Marvel 2 in the sales.
Both awesome and perfect for the switch.
Overcooked ends up almost impossible.
Wouldn’t fancy overcooked without 3-4 players.
Anywhere doing cheaper credit for the store on this?
Tried it with 2 and we were shit.
Going to try with 4 tomorrow.
Also loving the Mario/Rabbids game as well, reminds me a lot of Xcom which is always a good thing.
Get 5% off from Facebook (need to be on desktop, not mobile afaik) or Apple Pay and you can get £25 for £23.55 at CDKeys.
Lots of games can be had cheaper from different countries. Check here: https://eshop-prices.com
The Swiss are getting robbed.
What’s the deal with the online games, can you buy every game from the store or just a select few?
There’s loads that are 33% off today.
Haven’t looked to see if the physical copies are the same mind you.
Picked up Rocket League and Stardew Valley for a tenner each just there.
I'm not saying they don't have sales :cab:
All physical games are available for sale on the digital store. You're able to exchange money for a digital product rather than a physical one.
I have no idea what that post means.
Your post and my response were pretty clearly understood and I agreed with what you were saying.
Be my friend boys
SW-0518-6705-0797
Think I’m going to get Golf Story, Sonic Mania and even though I own it on steam, Stardew Valley. £36 of good times I think.
Very tempted by Stardew Valley. The only thing putting me off is the knowledge of how many hours I lost to Harvest Moon back in the day.....
I played it a fair bit on PC, it suits the switch so well, pick up do a day and put it down.
SW-8112-6279-1908
I'll add the codes in this thread now.
Edit- I only found Mike and Mahow. Anyone else who has posted a code post it again or add me instead.
2936-6297-9584
Add away, got MK8 now if someone wants to get hammered online.
Took the plunge on Stardew. Man am I shit at fishing.
I love it
Haven’t cracked the fishing yet either.
Friend code is: SW-5893-3430-4904
Got my first fish
I've caught 3 or 4 but still failing about 75% of the time. Hopefully it gets easier later on.
Lads we've got enough for 4 2v2 rocketleague matches. Jump on the Discord and let's get a tourney going.
I've got an Elgato so we can stream the whole thing and I'll unleash some epic #ESPORTS commentary.
You’ve lost me after the first sentence but I do indeed have rocket league.
As I feared, I lost a whole day to this game. :D
Almost finished two seasons on Stardew, I'm going to have to force myself to cut back soon.
I'm close to entirely binning off crop farming, other than to make stuff to complete the lists in the community centre or whatever it's called. While I can make a nice profit on it every now and then it's a lot of work and drains my character's energy which I need for mining. That and I make way more money from my chickens. God knows how big this mine is, I'm through 50 levels. It's brilliant though.
I’m just starting summer. Almost got enough for a chicken coop.
You’re right about the crop farming but its quite lucrative.
Probably make just as much down at the pier fishing all day though tbh.
What’s the money like from the chickens? Decent?
Your best bet (from what I've seen) is to make the Mayonnaise Machine as soon as you can once you get a Chicken because Mayonnaise sells for about 250 for a regular and more if you get a "large" egg. Eggs themselves only go for about 50. I currently have 4 Mayonnaise Machines (because it takes 3 hours and I hate having to go home every 3 hours) and 4 chickens so they're netting me roughly 1000 a day for next to no work. I'm hoping to expand to the 'Large Coop' shortly so I can incubate some more Chickens and try and get through 2 cycles of Mayo per day.
I've really not done any fishing since the earlier posts but I have noticed there's a collection for fish in the community centre so I need to start looking at that.
Edit- Oh, make sure you build a Stilo (which is cheap to make) before the Coop too, otherwise you'll struggle to feed them, especially when it rains (when it's sunny you can just let them go outside and find grass to eat).
80 levels into the mines now. Will it ever end?
Think there’s 100 mines. I’ve not even dabbled yet.
Also, my community centre is still a ruin, do you need to do something specific to move that story forward?
Did you get invited to go and see a Wizard? Once you see him, he'll translate the weird book that's in there and then if you go back there it will give you a list of items that they want and bringing them all of the items will give you rewards/unlock more lists.
Yeah done the first part but haven’t went back in to see him again. Will get on that.
You don't need to go back to the Wizard, you go back to the community centre and read the document again.
A year down in Stardew and I’m well and truly hooked. Winter was fucking tough not least of all because I didn’t have enough animal food and had to spend 6 grand on it. Having a whole season relying on animals and fishing did my farm the world of good though and I now have 7 chickens, 1 duck, 3 cows and a goat. Got the watering can, axe and pickaxe upgraded to gold and the kitchen added to the house. Also finally reached level 6 fishing which is the breakthrough level and makes it much easier.
I just bought it, no idea what I'm doing.
To begin with you don't have much money so you'll want to focus on growing crops, fishing, foraging (going around finding shit on the floor which is worth money) and sorting out the huge amounts of wood/rock that cover your farm. I would suggest building chests when you can and storing one of everything (e.g. one turnip, one whatever else you choose to grow) in case you need them for missions or for the community centre later on, but past that just sell everything you can and try and rack up money and materials (wood/stone) so that you can build stuff later.
Getting a head of steam now.
Halfway through summer. Furnace is going, the jam maker and the thing to get maple syrup from the trees.
Been down about 10 levels in the mines, pretty boring.
Chicken coop is set up but fucking Marnie seems to take every other day off so haven’t been able to buy any yet.
Is there an easy way to see how much each item sells for? Just seem to be selling and hoping for the best here.
Also, went back to the community centre and the only options I seemed to have were around foraging parcels that didn’t make much sense. Any tips?
Mahow there a whole load of handy article should online to get you started.
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/kotak...1762894608/amp
Just found this which is quite handy. There’s a link in there detailing how much each item gets you when selling too.
The mine is pretty much essential to get a lot of materials, unfortunately.
Marnie is shut 2 days a week I believe, it fucked me over when I needed that 6 grand of food. Hopefully you bought a Silo first, if not, get that before any chickens or you'll struggle to feed them.
The only way to find out what they sell for, that I know of, is online. The Wiki is pretty damn good. I wouldn't worry too much though, just sell anything you don't need to keep. General rule is making it into an artisan good (Mayonnaise, Cheese, Alcohol etc) will increase the value a lot so I tend to do that whenever possible.
You have to complete one of the sets, so do the Summer one if you're half way through Summer. The Summer foraging bundle is just Grapes, Spice Berry and Sweet Pea all 3 of which are easy to find in summer. Find one of each, take them there, put them in and it should open up other bundles. You'll have to wait for the respective seasons to do the other foraging bundles.
Did any of you get into Golf Story?
Yeah, I finished it.
Thought it was brilliant.
You won't be. To get the Greenhouse you have to complete all the bundles in that room so it isn't possible to do it until at least Winter. The melon will give you a reward thoughToggle Spoiler
Edit- Oh there is no Winter Bundle, so I guess you could conceivably do it in Fall, but you'd need a hell of a lot of luck to get all the animal stuff in that time.
Fishing is so fucking gay.
So after just getting Stardew Valley and dicking around for a couple of days I just realised that the big massive box next to my house is a trash can :D
Luckily I only threw away grass.
Making a killing (well for me) foraging.
90g for a gold leek
You mean the box you put things in to sell them? You need to be using that every day to make money.
Shit :D
Better start over again
ffs.
I just got a cat and it's decided to go to fucking sleep right by the door, I can't get to my pissing bed for the night :\
Just like this guy:
https://i.imgur.com/bqrL7XJ.jpg
Can't even use a weapon on the bastard :(
Edit: Held the direction arrow and after 30 seconds the useless shit finally moved.
Think I've got the hang of fishing now.
Just got a regular sunfish, 4 silver sunfish, 2 regular smallmouth bass and a silver smallmouth bass.
Level 1 with a bamboo rod, come at me.
Also, for some reason I still haven't unlocked the mines. I haven't been sent a letter yet saying the avalanche/whatever has been cleared.
Added a Sheep and a Pig to my farm.
Just got to save up for a Rabbit and I should have all the animals I need to complete all the remaining bundles.
Probably doing it all wrong but I'm now level 5 at the mines (I must have missed the letter), fucked up the egg festival but I did buy 14 lots of Strawberry seeds (didn't have more money) and got them planted right away.
5,111g earned still in spring.
You would have been better off saving the Strawberries for next spring and getting a full month out of them, but it doesn't matter. You should still get 2-3 harvests out of them and make a tidy profit. Crops that keep growing once you harvest them are best planted on day 1. That said if you spent all your cash on them you probably need to harvest them.
I've just finished my second spring today and am saving for a Rabbit. That said I also want to buy the Nursery for my house as I'll probably be married off to Haley soon. Oh and a Horse to get around faster. I still need so much money....
I also need to save up for a better sword so I can tackle the 2nd, much harder set of mines. The morning routine takes so long now with so many animals, hopefully the wife will start pitching in with some of it.
Oh for the record the Egg Hunt doesn't matter, the prize is shit. The only festival that matters is the Fall one.
At day 19 of spring now.
I can buy the better rod and I'm thinking of hitting the fish hard to bring in a lot of cash so I can stock up on seeds for Summer so I can plant them on day 1.
That's probably your best bet, while still using crops to make even more money.
Be sure to look into the community centre bundles too, and plan around those so you can try and do the Summer ones this summer, and maybe make a dent on the spring ones with what you have left.
I only need wild horseradish but I sold about 10 of them.
Since I met the wizard I've seen none :\
Went all round the forest (usually find them just south of Marnie's house) and finally came across one by the wizard \0/.
HE KNEW.
Ah, there is another Spring bundle, but I forgot you needed to do the foraging one first to unlock it. If you want to know :
Toggle Spoiler
Fished up 10 bait.
1: Green Algae
2: Algae
3: Algae
4: Driftwood
5: Joja Cola
6: Silver smallmouth bass
7: Silver smallmouth
8: Algae
9: Gold smallmouth bass and treasure chest (emerald, 6 wood)
10: Gold smallmouth
Fuck the trash.
Almost in winter.
Cheese press and mayonnaise machine are a go. As are the barn and the coop. Just need to get animals for the barn.
My silo is full so that should keep me going. I’ve made a shit load of money from crops. I’m going to upgrade the house soon.
Done a few bundles so far and managed to donate 10 things to the museum.
Later on you can get a machine that turns fishing trash into items, but so far I haven't got anything great from it, but it's still better than nothing.
I'm really struggling to feed my animals at the moment. I even fenced off a large area of my farm and planted grass in it but it doesn't seem to grow quick enough to even cover the rainy days in summer, let alone get me through the winter. At this rate that'll be another 6 grand or so used on food unless I can figure out how to get more.
I can get it now but I need an iron bar.
I'm only on level 10 in the mines so I'd have to buy it.
Definitely don't bother. The items you get from it aren't worth any serious investment. I'm sure I got mine for free for completing a bundle or something, but they aren't worth crafting.
Is this actually fun, or is it just OCD grinding through a skill tree? Is there much creativity around farm design etc.?
It sounds pretty interesting, but I'm not sure I need another thing like this eating up my time.
It's very, very similar to the original Harvest Moon games, just more in depth, so if you've played any of those you'll know whether it's for you or not.
No idea what Harvest Moon is. I read the reviews of this and it sounds good, but what you're describing here just sounds like Ass Creed (Farming Edition) in 2D.
I'm in there with Abigail.
She thinks I really know my way around a joystick after helping her done her game (I didn't lose a life, she died about 6 times the useless shit).
I was fine when I only had a handful of animals but now I have (from memory) 7 chickens, 1 duck, 1 rabbit, 3 cows, 1 goat, 1 sheep and 1 pig and they eat it insanely fast. I originally ran out in winter when they can't go outside so you need one piece of hey per animal per day to get through it (and any remaining grass you have outside dies). I think I had 11 animals at that time multiplied by the 28 days of winter would deplete an entire Silo if I had kept it full, which obviously I didn't. Then spring came and I was expecting fields full of grass like when you start the game but I had precious little and they've eaten through most of it. I haven't (yet) had to buy any more grass because the fenced off grass area I made has just about grown quick enough that I can harvest it into hey every now and then, but I'm constantly going down to zero and I'm not convinced it will have grown back enough by the time I hit 0 for me to harvest enough from it. I'm considering instead of my current approach opening the gate and letting the animals eat from my grass field and then shutting it up when it gets depleted. That would give me less control over where the grass is taken from (I like to harvest the middle and leave the 4 corners to grow back out) but ultimately might prove more productive, especially as you don't seem to get hey from every piece of grass you cut.
Level 6 fishing \0/.
I enjoyed it when I played on steam though didn’t get too far.
https://youtu.be/oxDh03tqaoE
Day 1 of summer.
Got my copper axe on the last day of spring, as well as a mushroom cave, I've got 14k to buy seeds and my farm will be in the tribune.
Pissed off though as I spent most of my stamina on the last day of spring making a nice big plot for seeds, about 70% of it has turned back.
Think I went a bit overboard.
100 blueberry and 75 melon seeds.
I have no sprinklers yet (no iron) so it's going to take me half a fucking day just to water them and all my energy.
11:20am, all watered but I only have 4 energy after eating 2 fish.
I need rain.
Can you lot put this in the Stardew Valley thread?
Just started a thread as requested, so let's move over there. A second Silo is a good idea though if you can fill it.
God imagine Nintendo weren't absolute dogshit at the internet this could be the greatest console of all time.
Blossom Tales looks good.
So when's this Metroid game that everyone is having a massive fit over it coming out then?
Pleb, you play Hollow Knight, right?
Yay or nay? Apparently it's coming out in a month or 2 for this.
It's an incredibly mediocre one of those. You've played them a million times.
@Dark Soldier how the fuck do I challenge you to a shinethief battle thing? Seems to be no way of me requesting a match with you despite being friends with you and both of us playingnthe game right now. Load of wank.
2018 on the Switch

Mario Tennis.
Definitely not a gimmick.
It looks boss if you ask me, it’ll be huge. I’m in Y3 (a class of 7-8 year olds) at work and pretty much half of them get a Switch for Christmas, it’s the only console they talk about now (they were Xbox fans before Christmas) Lego is also huge so it’ll scratch that itch too,
It does seem fun for the young'uns. Until the sturdy cardboard construction collapses under their gentle touch.
Rayman Legends on the Switch is a right barrel of laughs.
Fuck getting 850+ lums or whatever the fuck those creatures are called.
Yeah it's a great game. The music levels are so, so good.
Thought Zelda was amazing but I've recently finished the main Mario story and it's even better. Really one of the best single player games I've ever played.
I'm about 300 power moons into Mario so far, can see myself getting close to 100% with this game. I think Zelda is around 20% completion and I've not got much enthusiasm to go back and play anymore. The main story is finished it's just all the side quests.
Any other games to try? I've not really been into gaming other than Fifa for about 5 years. Are the ports like Mario Kart, Skyrim and Doom worth picking up?
I really like the Mario Rabbids game.
The comedy is shit but if you love turn based games (it's basically an Xcom copy) then you'll really like it.
Doom is great but I'd settle for the PS4 / Xbox version if you have the option. Bayonetta 2 is like a fortnight away. I'm back on Mario myself. It definitely does bring your attention to things in that game. Anything that looks out of the ordinary usually leads to a moon.
Trading Mario Odyssey in for £33.
Thinking of taking the plunge on Zelda but worried it’ll consume my life. Any other suggestions outside of the ones listed a few posts up?
Not sure what to make of Bayonetta.
It's Devil May Cry but with the whole devil schtick replaced by witches.
Never played Devil May Cry.
It has been entertaining so far, but it feels like I am just mashing buttons and hoping for the best. No clue what the fuck is going on 'story' wise either. Maybe I should have played the first one first.
I mashed through it as well. The story was lifted straight out of Devil May Cry as well. Witch sisters that are the key some end-world resurrection event who are also born of FORBIDDEN MARRIAGE. That's all you get out of the first game.
Good to be up to speed.
I'll probably play it a few more times before abandoning it once the Kirby one is released. Then to wait for Mario Tennis.
http://fromsoftfanatics.com/wp-conte...jpg-large.jpeg
Way to play up to the meme, lads.
That Nintendo games never drop in price is a huge pain. I want Zelda, but not for £40+
It’s worth every penny.
Everyone I've heard play it has said it's up there with the best games of all time.
It's part of the reason I'm taking forever with Mario. I don't want to charge through that and then have to spend £40+ on something else to play from Nintendo.
Steady on. Dark Souls.
I enjoyed Zelda a lot, but the "story" was absolute shite.
The first exploits to running homebrew have come out.
Lame. It'll kill the console just so some retard can play Pokemon Red at a bad resolution.
I'd rather pay to do that. Hurry up, Virtual Console. :(
Although I've seen SNES minis at £70 which is almost where I want it. Almost.
Bought Zelda from a guy off rllmuk. Should be here in a few days :D
Zelda arrived and I got credits on Mario. Going to try out Zelda with the knowledge I’ve got all that post credits Mario to play :cool2:
Octopath Traveler: Traveler's Compendium Edition (Nintendo Switch) £31.99 at argos http://www.argos.co.uk/product/8153557 get in before it's likely cancelled. It's over £95 everywhere else.
What's this about a new Starfox?
Anyone on Mario Tennis?
First I thought that it was too easy, plus not being able to play proper 6 game sets is still very stupid, but I just had a couple of very tense matches earlier and now I'm balls deep in it.
Bought this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mayflash-Ma...ess+Controller
Works perfectly, plug and play. Using the Xbox Elite controller on Zelda
What's wrong with the Pro controller?
I'm not paying £60 and the Elite controller is fucking beautiful.
I see. Makes sense if you already have a controller you like.
Plus you can switch B and A around as it should be on any proper controller rather than Nintendo fucking it all up.
I think the grip that came with it does a decent enough job.
Mario Tennis
Taking my first steps into homebrew on the switch. It's currently doing a full system backup.
Easy!
Forgot how good Mario Kart is! Amazing that you can pick it up live you've never been away from it, having played the Wii U one a bunch.
Thinking of getting one of these. Is it worth it?
Send out the @Mike signal.
It's not too difficult to do, it's not as simple as hitting go and it's done. It's currently not fully done. If you power the switch off fully you need a PC to get it going again. You can use sleep mode fine though. I'd also buy a 'jig' off ebay rather than faffing with paperclips or tinfoil. I got this one and it's worked every time.
I followed this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4LMFUVfG7w
It might be a little different now, as I beleive RajNX no longer packs Tinfoil in with his firmware.
GBATemp have a LOAD of tutorials: https://gbatemp.net/forums/switch-tutorials.289/
The main thing you need to remember is that before you do anything, the first time you get it to boot up to a firmware loader, you must backup everything. It takes some time but it'll help in the future.
Then just keep your switch in Airplane mode, don't take it online, don't update it.
I am on 4.0.1 fw, and the app to install games asks you if you want to ignore firmware warnings, meaning new games play on old firmware pretty much all the time.
As for roms. Reddit's SwitchRoms section might be worth a google. Who knows. ;)
EDIT: Oh, they recently put out a slight hardware change on the newest switches that I'm not sure how much you can do with them. GBAtemp have a thread about serial numbers. The older the firmware the better is the rule. I they've got things going on the very newest firmware (out last week) but without a sleep mode.
That's 1 million times too much for Spikey and also, mate you make enough money to buy the games. There's only like 5 per year.
I got one and Fifa 19 yesterday. First impressions are good. I will be buying the games rather than fucking about with the above though, so Phonics is right. Bless him.
Civilisation is coming out on it.
Get yourself Mario, it’s amazing.
Mario Party out tomorrow
I won't get it on the day but I'll be getting it sometime in the week.
After playing loads of Mario 64 the past while I think I need to sell the Xbox and buy one of these just for the Mario game.
Sucks that Mario Party needs joycons. I don’t fancy buying a second set to me, Baz and The Reid can play :(
What? You can't use a normal controller?
That sucks.
I don’t think so, I asked over at RLLMUK and they said the games seem to all need a joy con. Of course everyone has two but they’re damn expensive to get more.
Mario Odyssey is finished. It's a Ubisoft checklist. I've never seen Nintendo repeat so much in a game.
Very highly rated. I felt good with it until I realised I could just do the most basic shit to get through kingdoms. That game is almost all filler.
Anyone played anything decent recently? Can't be bothered getting back into Zelda.
I bought Octopath Traveller in the Nintendo sale and I’m enjoying it so far. The battling is starting to feel a bit repetitive but hopefully they’ll mix it up a bit when I get further in.
New Super Mario U Deluxe has made me question my own mortality in a way no game has ever managed and led me to realise my youth hasn’t lasted forever. I’m old and rubbish at Mario. Like awful, my evening has been my swearing and shouting ‘noooo’ at the TV and the cat.
I had the same feeling with ChaseHQ and IK+. You spend so much time with those games as kids and then it all fades away.
I've always found Mario ridiculously hard. Probably because I grew up playing more Sonic where there aren't any INSTANT DEATH holes.
The SNES hooks are in the Switch Online thing already. JUST GIVE US ALL THE GAMES!
I bought it today and decided to try and play the game with my 10 year old cousins. One was passable (although he was using Nabbit) with the other being tragic, he kept running off and seemingly not even looking at where enemies were and then would blame us for him dying. We were stuck on some level for a good few tries and he seemed to die in the exact same spot about 8 times (he would rush at a block with a fire flower taking no notice of a goomba who would kill him), it was painful.
I was never that great but I'm a hell of a lot worse than I was.
Crash Bandicoot Trilogy is fun.
I'm undecided between which of Super Smash Bros and Super Mario Odyssey to get next. Both games have oodles of stuff to collect, which I love. Some advice please.
Mario. It’s incredible. Smash Brothers is shite from what I hear from the crowd I used to play it with.
Surely you've played earlier versions of both. Which one did you enjoy more? I would choose Odyssey, no doubt, but I don't care much for Smash Bros.
Odyssey. It’s genuinely fantastic. One of the best, not only Mario games, but any game ever made.
Cheers guys. Loved both on previous consoles so couldn't easily decide.
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbrea...-control-games
Switch Lite is official.
So last year I modded my switch, installed custom firmware and have been enjoying all kinds of dodgy stuff in my pirate hat. Sadly it meant no online play, cos you get banned.
Thankfully those smart pirate folks have no found a way to have the switch appear as a stock one if you want to go online or run backup by emulating on the switch, the switch, so you can play ‘back ups’
Obvs it might get found out in the future, but it’s still smart for now.
I’ve got a copy of Mario Maker 2 on the way, something I’ve wanted for yonks. Anyone playing it?
I think I'm going to get a Lite, all the detachable and dockable stuff with the proper Switch doesn't appeal and I loved both the DS and 3DS so this seems perfect for me.
SNES games are out in Switch to online subscribers. :cool2:
Can play online together as well if you fancy a MarioKart or something Mike.
Cool, what’s your friend code?
My aim this weekend is to try play Zelda as I’ve never gotten into one.
Been playing Fire Emblem lately and enjoying it a lot. I also am starting to build a bit of a backlog and it is only going to get worse. The new (well, old) Zelda is next, followed by Dragon Quest. Then that Luigi one is coming soon, as is Pokemon. Oh, and the Mario Olympics one . All of that is ignoring stuff that I never finished, like Octopath Traveler, Mario and the Rabbids, Mortal Kombat (played for like ten minutes and hated it), Smash Bros, Mario Tennis... Probably shouldn't think too much about it.
Don't know when I last turned my Xbox on so switch is comfortably my main console now. Only actually completed Pokémon and Mario Rabbids, mind. Most of the way through Zelda so should probably finish that before having another go at fire emblem (lost most of my team in one of the first fights lol).
Backlog of Odyssey, Transition and Luigi's mansion.
Ring Fit Adventure is also decent but not given it all that much time.
I've had to admit defeat and give up on Breath of the Wild. It's too sprawling and overwhelming, I had this with Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Something about 3D Zelda games has me beat so I've traded it for Link's Awakening which I already love.
I have Link's Awakening, but I have yet to play it. I didn't enjoy Ocarina of Time nearly as much as everyone else did, but I loved Breath of the Wild.
Losing my interest on the Switch overall, though. The only games that I think have been genuinely good are Mario Odyssey, Zelda, and Fire Emblem. Nothing appealing on the horizon either.
I've taken a break from BOTW. Will get back into it when I've got some time off in a couple of weeks - definitely felt the same with it.
Animal Crossing this Friday is the best big release. Any fans? I’ve never gotten into one.
It’s ‘out’ if your switch does stuff it shouldn’t....
I bought an Animal Crossing once and it became one of about 3 games that I've traded in. Couldn't stand it.
Luckily I've got Fire Emblem still untouched if we get locked down.
Never been cooler
https://i.postimg.cc/rsKMBs0H/854-D7...261-EA4-DB.jpg
How is Animal Crossing @Mike ? I'm tempted to pick it up. Looks kinda fun
You know what, it's really good. It's not something I'd normally get into, cos there is no story of such, but with the world how it is, it's been nice to play for short bursts over the day. I've two friends at work who are playing it, so I've people who I can visit in game that I know, sell my stuff in their shop and stuff. Being on RLLMUK too, their thread is huge on it,with lots of people opening their islands up for people to visit.
There is a lot of pottering about, and busy work, like I'm currently making furniture for empty houses so that animals move in, meaning more folk living on my island, so yeah, deffo enjoying it.
This shit Easter thing can bugger off though.
I got it earlier. So far, so twee...but nice and relaxing and I'm quite enjoying pottering about doing odd jobs.
Right - got my museum ready to go tomorrow. Did my first trip and found another wandering soul to join my island, plus got me some sweet coconuts
Add my friend code, it’s: 0518-6705-0797
Absolute madlads
I made 300k selling turnips this morning! Been using this to track prices: https://stalks.io
Got 500k to pump into the ‘nips in the morning!
Gonna be Bellionaires
Any ideas on the best place to pick one of these up?
The full version is sold out all over. Can still find the lite though
https://www.shopto.net/en/swhw30-nin...-grey-p113478/
I'm not sure if I want the lite version. Probably have to go second hand.
wtf are mike and raoul on about?
59 today, utter C words!
I've been badly burned, especially by Nook's cranny closing for a day for remodelling. Weekend just gone, sold 3000 or 4000 for a 60 bell loss. :(
In case you don't know, I didn't, Nook's cranny changes price half way through day. They have a morning price and an afternoon price for turnips.
Aye and everyone gets different prices, I’ve not sold any on my own island, always gone to someone else’s for big bells.
You just need to use https://stalks.io - has all the curve predictions built-in so you can see expected rates
I’ve been using https://ac-turnip.com/
Sold via another forum. Made over 2 million bells!!
 I'm currently waiting for a price rise, otherwise Tom Nook threatened to break my kneecaps
In non-Animal Crossing news, I'm now 30 hours into Fire Emblem and it's pretty awesome. Dorothea is an absolute beast and having a squad with a magic weighting seems the best way to go so far.
Yeah, Fire Emblem is pretty great. What house are you playing? I'm guessing the red (dragon?) one, since you mention Dorothea.
6000 turnips at 110 bells each. I smell another loss on the cards this week.
Did have a selling price of 420-odd during last week but had already sold what turnips I had by then.
Yeah, the Black Eagle House. Dorothea and Hubert are deadly on the battlefield, although I feel that Hubert may turn deadly off the battlefield too and end up assassinating me one of these days.
I could do without some of the non-battle stuff though, which gets a little tedious. I've got 20 or so gifts to find the right people for but seems far more effort than its worth.
Agreed, some of the non-battle stuff is just a pain in the arse. I ended up ignoring most of it after a while. Petra turned into an absolute beast on my save. Ferdinand was pretty beastly too once in got him on a horse.
New Mario coming soon.
Paper Mario.
It's a turn based RPG not a traditional Mario game.
Even better.
No coming back from that.
Absolutely mugging you off there
Got to the second half of Fire Emblem Three Houses. Back to running around the monastery in between battles. :cab:
You can skip it all. I did towards the end.
Can't decide whether to get the NBA 2K20 game or not. Never owned a NBA game but the Jordan series got me interested and game is currently reduced to 2.49.
42GB game file though wtf. :D
https://i.gyazo.com/fb28ffecc893802e...8661f2fdc9.png
Fuck's sake. :moop: This is using the ac-turnip.com forecast.
We switch friends, it’s hard to work out who is who cos Nintendo..
Try turnip exchange for selling.
I've had good luck just asking randoms on Twitter for their dodo code and visiting them to sell (tip them a Nook Ticket or whatever)
Finally started fire emblem after my laptop broke and I had nothing else to do.
I literally have no idea if I’m teaching them right or not, I’m probably going to ruin them all.
Once you get into the swing of it its easy. There's no right or wrong way to do it.
Turnips 565
https://turnip.exchange/island/0d323ec1
Sold mine earlier in the week, but that's a cracking price.
I saw Miles from SI posted his Dodo Code earlier and was letting people sell theirs at 365 or something :D
Don't have online or I'd be getting involved. 2nd week in a row my forecast was decreasing, so I just cut my future losses and sold at 68. :(
Aww, I got my online from having Amazon prime or I'd be with you.
I got a bunch of tickets to hopefully find a cool new islander with, and about 700k of bells, I imagine I got more, but I just left it on and didn't watch so people were most likely stealing.
Selling at 529 today: https://turnip.exchange/island/5135e61f
Went back into Super Mario Odyssey whilst work was slow. I like that game a lot still. I'm past the first credits so I'll just nibble away with it as I see fit.
Struggling now for time. Added Xenoblade Chronicles to my Switch collection, which is going to eat into my Fire Emblem game time and the Animal Crossing game time becomes even more of a chore. :worried:
When your best unit turns out to be the traitor.... fuck you Fire Emblem.
I’m less interested in Animal Crossing. New month so new stuff to catch, but I’m just not excited to go do it.
It doesn't sound that interesting.
95% of the posts about the game have been regarding the sale price of turnips...
Sold for big this week! More bells that I’ll ever need! It’s been a great thing to play over lockdown, and I’m sure I’ll stay checking in, just less than I have.
Made myself a cheeky 2.2m today
The new stuff is pretty fun but once you're past the initial grind it does slightly lessen. You're essentially playing it by your own rules and just working to build your dream island. The main problem with that is that it's mostly down to the RNG gods if you can get the recipes you need or getting into buying/trading them.
What's the chances of this being on offer in this Prime Day nonsense?
And is a Lite too risky with the joycon drift issue?
I know you can send it back to get it fixed or whatever but I don't want to have to send the whole thing back.
I’ve got a day one switch and joy con drift is a real problem, not just with the lite. I’ve given up and swapped to a classic controller.
Yeah but at least with the full version one you can detach the joycons to send them off to be fixed, right?
I don't think I've ever suffered with drift but I usually have it docked using the pro controller.
Can't imagine it'll be discounted as they're selling like hotcakes. There were rumours of a new version coming out soon with upgraded hardware
Nintendo doesn’t do discounts.
Asda had the Switch on at 239.99 yesterday. None of them near me seemed to have them in stock though so I asked Currys to price match. They replied this morning saying Asda sold out last night at 10pm but because I'd requested it before that they gave me a discount code for the same price so I've just ordered one.
Need to get some games now. Obvs getting Zelda. What else is good?
Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing: New Horizon, Hollow Knight and Smash Bros all seem to be very popular.
Animal Crossing, Untitled Goose Game, Streets Of Rage, Skyrim, The Witcher, Outer Worlds plus all the Mario shizzle your heart desires. FM is pretty decent too.
Worth picking up a case, MicroSD card and screen protector too: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/r...h-accessories/
Is the new FM coming out on it?
Don't bother with animal crossing, its very niche. Get the mario games, fire emblem three houses, smash brothers, legend of zelda link's awakening. Pokemon too if you're into those.
Yeah, I treat it like a Nintendo box. And maybe if something on sale takes my fancy.
It arrived today. Haven't bought any physical games yet but bought Hyper Light Drifter on the eShop as it was on offer. No idea what I'm doing.
Golf Story is good, isn't it?
I fucking hate the disc golf though.
The disc golf is the pits.
FM's out now.
Am I going to spend thirty quid on it?
Probably.
This looks cool: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...nki-shadowcast
:cool2:
That shitty ad told me nothing. So it is 7 inches, what is the size of the current one? Having an ethernet port is good, but definitely not worth a new console. Is the hardware better, or will all non-Nintendo games still look blurry as hell?
As far as I can tell, the dock now has a LAN port, the unit itself now has an adjustable flap style stand.
The current display is 6.2 inches so this is slightly larger, but I think this will be the first Nintendo product to offer "1080p." It's actually still 720p until you connect it to the TV via the dock.
Screen is also OLED over what was LCD.
64GB of internal storage, up from 32GB, too.
White dock, no thanks.
That is definitely not worth the upgrade.
If I didn't have one and were buying one, I'd get this new one. If I already had one, there isn't much point.
Grabbed Tony Hawks today. Kids might have to go to bed at about 5 so I can play it. Buzzing.
So Zelda is properly out now. I hear it’s top!
Anyone playing it? I am aiming to finally get into a Zelda game with this one.
It is genuinely on course to be the greatest thing I've ever played.
Absolutely phenomenal thing.
Everyone I know who has played it so far is calling it the first proper 10/10 game in quite some time.
Nobody else playing the GOAT then? Lads.
I was set to pull the trigger on a Switch but then the washing machine offed itself.
Do you need to have played BotW before getting onto this one?
Not really. Story is average at best. There's a couple of mechanics in BotW it doesn't fully reference in this, apart from that nah.
I'm completely hooked on the thing. Tops Elden Ring as best open world.
I am 2-3 hours in. Really liking it so far.
Whoever it was delivered to brought it back to me. Legend.
Can't go into too much detail because spoilers.
Thr vastness of scale, scope, and trust from Nintendo.
You receive four powers at the start. Two of them are literally game breaking. Like end of game stuff you'd get from any other dev. You can use them anywhere, anytime, any way you like. It's insane how they've balanced them to work from the off.
The game is probably the largest SP game made. Insane sense of size. But it's not barren, dead land. There is stuff over every horizon, stuff to always head to. And each thing is a joy, complete trust given to the player. Nintendo saying "here's your tools, discover".
Everyone I've spoken to has different results for every area. Every puzzle or fight. There's a myriad of ways to do everything.
I've had more joyous, surprising moments with this than any game before. Its outstanding to play, explore, discover.
I’ve played about an hour (bloody work and kids) but that post makes me want to run away and play for a week!
Gave it about half an hour and didn’t enjoy a single second. The controls are retarded, the character sounds are basic, your sword breaks within seconds of starting, Zelda is annoying and ultrahand? :|
Safe to say the GOAT is not for me.
Genuinely think that's the worst take I've seen on this forum and we used to have Henry as a fucking mod.
I need to sit down and marathon Breath of the Wild. I got into it but it's so easy just to not play that game right now.
If you didn't like Breath of the Wild you will not like this, Mahow.
I’m at Center Parcs this weekend, evenings will be for Zelda
Unlucky.
A Switch purchase is on the table now and I'll likely be ordering one soon. The question really is which one do I get?
Lite - My favourite form factor and colour options of the Switches, however the inability to connect to a TV really kills the appeal.
So that leaves the standard v OLED debate. I myself up the page said the OLED is the one to get if you don't have one.
They now offer that Mario Odyssey edition which seems to be great value. The OLED models are ~£60 more expensive than that and they don't come with a game. However they do come with a better, larger screen and ability to play at 1080p on my monitor. I do also have some CeX credit that could get me a few games. The special edition OLEDs also look much better for the most part.
Annoyingly as said up the page, Nintendo doesn't do discounts and so there isn't likely to be one until their next gen hits. Though we have no announcement or rumours of an imminent one really, so I reckon we're at least a good year or two away from it.
You can however get 10% off with student discount if you go to Nintendos store direct. It'd take the Mario bundle to £234 or the OLEDs down just below £290. Assuming I can find a student to give me their code that is.
If it's like in BOTW weapon degradation shouldn't really be an issue because the combat is so meh it doesn't really matter.
I'll play this at some point and probably think the same if it as I did of the first one, which is that it's an incredibly impressive thing that leaves me somewhat cold.
Get the OLED
You have an ability now, Fuse, which makes weapon degredation redundant pretty much. You can fuse almost anything to any weapon, from a tree branch to broadswords. They make them stronger, better durability, and sometimes give special effects.
Such as:
https://i.ibb.co/QC637Mb/IMG-20230519-WA0013.jpg
That's what I'm saying though, the weapon degradation didn't actually bother me much once I got into the game because the combat was such a "I just want this over with" and not a huge amount of fun when engaged with that I just picked up anything that had higher numbers and used it until it died.
I mean that looks fine, I guess, but I thought all things considered weapon degradation just wasn't that irritating because I didn't like any of the weapons enough in the first place to be annoyed I'd lost them.
I just leg it every time a monster appears.
Ah I love the combat. But then I'm doing slow mo in the air to fire arrows, using bombs, hitting flurry rushes and parries, dropping objects onto enemies, rewinding things they've thrown at me so they hit them etc.
If you just go in with a sword or whatever and just do that then yeah its boring as shit tbh.
Its a sandbox so imagination plays a huge part.
The rewind in TOTK does sound entertaining.
I tried to open most fights in BOTW with bombs and/or objects because at least with the physics there was some fun to be found in the combat. The dream was finding a big hill with some goblins at the bottom of it and treating it like a putt, try to gauge how the rolls of the hill would divert the bomb and get it right into the middle of them first time.
Managed to nab a discount code off my cousin and so it'll get the special edition OLEDs down to £286, OLED to £279 and the standard with Mario Odyssey down to £233.
While my indecisive ass picks which one to get, other than a screen protector is there any accessories that are a must-have?
I got the messenger bag but the only part of the package I use when travelling is the case.
Yeah, I have a travel case. A memory card too.
Switch came today but annoyingly at the time of ordering they didnt have anything with screen protector on the Nintendo site, so it's off into town to see about picking one up tomorrow.
Going to head to CeX where I've £70 in vouchers to use too, so that might stretch to two games, but if I could only get one, which is the one game I should get?
Did you get any with it?
Nah I got the Zelda OLED.
Imo the Splatoon one is the best looking console they have but there's limited numbers of them left and my discount code made this one near £35 cheaper.
We do already have Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and I think Mario Odyssey somewhere in the house.
Annoyingly they didn't have it in stock in the local one, but I'm keeping my eye out. Picked up Kirby and the Forgotten Land. That'll do for now.
Now it's been a couple of weeks, while I can say the new Zelda is an absolute masterpiece it's starting to grate a little. It's just too similar to BotW in a lot of areas once the joy of the new has worn off.
I think my largest gripe with this, and it was my major flaw in BotW, is that while the game is vast and huge in scope and handled brilliantly by Nintendo in always having something on the horizon, the placement of things to do feels structured by the devs, and not as if it is genuinely a living, breathing world. Unlike, say, Elden Ring which feels more logical.
I'm seeing the same things on repeat at times, and the only thing I'm actually really looking forward to doing is Shrines, which are vastly improved. The discovery trumps the outcome, for me.
I stopped playing once Street Fighter 6 came out. Should get back to it.
Its a clear 10/10 but after 300+ hours in BotW I've run out of steam with it a little. There's a bit too much similarity, the main dungeons are a bit ropey (the jouriesy to them are great, though).
My gripes with it are personal. It's an absolutely stunning achievement but its a bit too 'much' for me. Its given me some amazing joy and I'll return to it to finish it but not feeling the draw right now.
As I say though, ignoring my own grievances with it its genuinely one of the best games ever made and if BotW never existed I'd be at about 400 hours in it by now.
Just read that Mario RPG is getting a remake.:drool::drool:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r5PJx7rlds
Yeah, I'm up for that. I think that crosses off most of the Nintendo tentpoles I've wanted to play. Maybe I'll give Pikmin a shot?
Want to get another game just to have a couple to go at. Probably between the latest Zelda or FC24. What's the latter like for actual gameplay rather than just an expensive sticker album?
Any other bargains to know about in the Nintendo store for this?
You dont want a modern sports title on the Switch. The performance on it is gash. Zelda does make it struggle at points but will work much better.
What kind of games are you looking to play?
Probably more along the Zelda/Mario/Metroid type thing, but I wouldn't mind something there to just pick up and have a go of like a soccer or a golf game, something like that.
I downloaded some mini golf thing for 99c and it was too expensive even at that much.
Vampire Survivors probably costs a couple of quid on it. That kills half an hour.
Get Pikmin.
If money is not an issue, Mario Odyssey is perhaps the best non-Zelda game on the console. Zelda you might want to go for Breath of the Wild first over TOTK. Can't really go wrong with either though.
If looking for something else, maybe see if Fire Emblem is your thing. Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing are both top notch if you're into the genre too.
Yeah I'm loving Odyssey so far.
Prime Remaster, Metroid Dread, Golf Story, Odyssey and BotW are the five big Switch hitters for me. Golf Story is an RPG based around golf so don't be expecting any proper golf shenanigans.
Just get the latest Zelda.
Mario Kart is fun too. But yeah, get Zelda.
I don’t know how good Animal Crossing would be going in new now. Going in at launch with everyone else was brilliant in lockdown though.
Was a bit aprehensive about the amount of time you'd probably need to sink into it, but got Tears of the Kingdom in the end.
Early in play in fairness, but I have regrets.
I am not sure that you will like it later if you don't enjoy it early on.
I think I'd rather something with some direction to it. I've wandered aimlessly around the first bit for ages picking up apples and mushrooms, and everything looks identical to the last bit. No idea where I'm going or what I'm supposed to be doing but I'm bored off my face now.
It’s bad. Take it back and get New Super Luckys Tale.
I'm going to bring it to CeX, definitely not a game for me.
Whoever designed the game slot on this thing should be shot too. Stuck on one game until you can get your hands on a knife, bullshit.
I didn't know that was a problem you could have with this. I get enough leverage when it initially pops out.
I assume he means popping the cover off. That one will get easier over time.
You need women's nails at the very minimum.
Show us the sausage fingers.
I've got fat fingers but I've never had a problem.
I'd say mine is defective as you can't even do it with a regular knife, you need a really sharp one. I've wrecked it with scratches from even attempting to open it.
I'd near pay the Nintendo premium over Amazon just to have the games on it without the cartridge in future.
Put an SD card in it and just buy the games via download. You get get huge storage ones for cheap these days.
Downside is once you buy you're stuck with the game.
Just hate paying Nintendo those prices when it’s so much cheaper for a game you actually own.
That said, Wonder has been bought.
Got a reward & recognition from work last week so I’ve bought Odyssey & Fire Emblem Engage to upgrade my Switch from a Pokemon machine to an actual console.
I’ve not played a FE game before but it does sound like my kinda thing, although all the different interconnected game arcs always made me a bit hesitant to jump in. Am I good to just go straight into Engage then trying some of the back catalogue or am I going to be better off playing the other Switch titles/Awakening first?
A few pokes around t’internet seems to suggest it’s not part of other timelines & I just won’t get some of the references to specific characters, but from a game mechanics standpoint etc does it make more sense to start further back?
Fire Emblem mechanics haven’t changed for 20 years. You’ll be fine.
SM Wonder has made it worth buying this thing all by itself. Odyssey is excellent but fucked up a bit by loads of shitty camera angles. 2D Mario is still the best Mario. I just hope it doesn't start to lean too much on those badges - these things don't need to be overcomplicated, which is what ruins Zelda completely.
Got a pro controller. Gave it to my nephew. Fisher Price level piece of plastic shite. Hateful thing.
Got an 8bitdo adapter instead and now using my Series X controller. Much better.
The official pro one?
I was looking into one yesterday as the joycon are too fiddly and aren't too comfy in the grip they provide either. The 8bitdo ultimate seems to be the best reviewed controller for the Switch, from watching various youtubers reviews. Essentially just looks like an Xbox controller but with hall effect sticks.
If you prefer the left stick in the wrong place and aren't bothered by potential stick drift down the line, they also have a cheaper offering. Even cheaper too if you don't want the translucent colours.
Just seems like the days of your 3rd party controllers being unusable chunky crap are pretty much gone. Even the cheaper ones around £15-20 seem fine and reasonably comfy to use.
Pro one, official yeah. Just feels like the face buttons are hard, horrid plastic. Playing a race on MK8 and I could feel them boring a hole into my thumb.
The adapter + xbox or ps5 controller is perfect. It just reads it as a pro controller and works out the box.
I have an Xbox One controller, is the adapter one of those sticks they sell on Amazon?
I sent the 8bitdo one back. It was a bit crap after extensive testing.
Got the 'MAYFLASH MAGIC NS 2' instead which is amazing.
And yeah, Amazon mate. Plug it in the USB, pick the console 'colour', sync button on stick and controller. Ten seconds later, works perfect.
Do you miss much functionality with the XBox one? Are one of the ones you mention above designed for full functionality or are they generic ones to fit all consoles?
My Pro controller serves me well enough. Even use it for PC games.
Apparently it is a great controller. I just despise the sticks, buttons and feel of it.
Xbox Series controller will never be beaten.
Got Tinfoil working again on my switch, making getting games much easier, so loaded it up with a few things.
The switch turns 7 today. What a fantastic little console.
The re releasing of advance wars caught me by surprise. Bought it immediately on sight and planning giving it a roar tonight.
It is good.
Just finished the 25 missions in advance wars, takes ages but still so good. Advance wars 2 to go.
For whatever reason I got it for £20 in Asda so it’s been incredible value already, both for quality and nostalgia.
