Stores including John Lewis, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl have said they will be shut in the UK on Monday 19 September, as a sign of respect to Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral.
Homebase, WH Smith, B&Q, Primark, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Argos, Ikea and Blue Diamond Garden Centres have all also said that they will close stores on the day.
All John Lewis department stores and Waitrose shops will be shut on the day of the funeral, although a small number of Waitrose stores along the route of the procession may remain open.
Fuck off.
Rightly so.
Indeed. It's one day, in over 70 years.
I can’t believe I spent the last decade in employment and managed to fuck this free day off.
We are sending over a war criminal to attend the funeral.

I read about him a few months back - proper psycho if it all ends up true.
Who are these sad cunts who are walking past her lying in state and are queueing for 12 hours? Fuck me what is wrong with people?
Don't think that's sad at all. It's an historic occasion.
Not sure how far down the list of things I'd like to spend a day doing you'd have to go before "12 hour wait to see a coffin" would be the option.
What does that even mean? You gonna rave about it during your next dinner party? Fuck off.
It looks good for the socials.
I'm surprised at the supermarkets I thought they would be gagging to get open as soon as they thought they could. It's the right thing to do by the way pretty much everything should be shut on Monday even if I'm not massively into the Royals there is no reason to need everything to be open.
I used to live opposite a Tesco Extra many moons ago and the massive queue before store opening on Boxing Day was always good for a laugh. Some of them obviously just wanted those sweet sweet reduced selection boxes, but it also laid bare that there is a small section of society that actually can't deal with supermarkets being closed. Gammons that need their daily paper to shout at being the main representative.
Yeah, in the pandemic when the local Sainsbury's closed for an hour in the morning at 9-10am or something, there was always a queue of men 65-90 unable to process the idea of not going there to get the paper at that time.
I'll give you this being weird, mind.
Seven times! Go about your day, madam.Quote:
We're hearing more from people queuing at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh to see the Queen's coffin before it is taken to Buckingham Palace later today.
Elizabeth, undeterred by the long wait time, has queued to see the Queen's coffin seven times now.
"It's beautiful when you enter into the cathedral. The atmosphere, the presence. There's something definitely divine there - it's beyond words. I feel deeply moved every time I go through," she tells BBC Breakfast.
"Every time I've gone back again and again because Queen Elizabeth II was irreplaceable and I wanted to pay my respects. But it was more than that, it's an experience I didn't want to miss."
Traffic fucked again in Edinburgh.
What are the odds that she isn't even in the coffin? Would they risk it?

Wait a second, the queen lived in Scotland?
She lived at Sandringham (Norfolk) in the winter, Balmoral (Scotland) in the summer, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle the rest of the time. Must have been to Holyrood ocasionally as well, and whatever that place is in NI. Wales, don't think so.
And most importantly she lived in all of our hearts.
I'm not sure whether I think this is hilarious or she's actually just mentally ill and I feel sorry for her. Either way, bizarre.
I'm always disturbed by those recordings. Guaranteed to be some obese cunt with a neck beard.
He’s no worse than those God botherers that stand in the town yelling stuff. In fact he’s better because he spoke the truth.
Two Shinners and Charles roasting the DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson.

Center Parcs originally said they'd close on Monday with guests having to leave their holidays for a night :D
They've now reversed the decision after backlash and guests no longer have to check out for 24 hours.

Pretty solid guest list. I love the idea of Macron, Bolsonaro and Emperor Naruhito all being loaded onto a bus.
Love that they felt the need to clarify that Putin IS NOT invited.
Good target for him to nuke.
Putin would just be a distraction, but the Russian Ambassador should be there. They attended in 1952 and relations were hardly great then.
If ever there was an event to hand out TTH business cards, that's the one. Who's our poshest member we can try to get an invite? Floyd?
The insincerity is reaching fever pitch. They had a retired soldier on the radio this morning saying that she also served her country and went to war. I must have missed the grainy archive footage of her landing on Normandy Beach.
I was in the same room as the Queen twice, but never met her. Probably not enough for an invite.
I think I told the story before of how my family have a signed photo of Prince Andrew, so maybe if I wave that at the guards they'll let me in.
I don't imagine many people try to meet Andy these days so they would probably march you straight over to him and you'd end up on some kind of watch list.
