How did he not do a good job at Stoke?
I don't think he did badly at Man City. They were right at the start of their big spending period and were trying to suddenly become a big team. A lot of the players he brought in were long term successes.

He brought in Vincent Kompany, Gareth Barry, and a load of pish.
Spent a bunch of money while achieving the square root of fuck all and was fired for putting a team with more Champions League winners than any other team in the league into a relegation battle for the last 2 years.
A team that was leading the line with Ricardo Fuller and Glen Whelan came closer to success than any of his teams did.
Those Champions' League winners are all shit though.
Kompany, Barry, Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Tevez, Lescott.
Such a stretch using that stat. :D Those players weren't Van Basten, Cruyff and Ronaldinho. They finished 9th three years running, that's a good achievement with their squad, especially while managing to make them easier on the eye after years of Pulisball.
Yeah, they sacked him mid-season and then Robert Mancini brought David Silva and Yaya Toure in during the summer. Hughes also brought Pablo Zabaleta in actually, so fair play Sparky lad.
Yo @nsd. Please tell Reg he's talking total shit pls.
Lescott :D
Lescott was a starter in the season they won their first (recent) title.
So did Quinton Fortune. Being in the 11 of a team that wins the league doesn't make you good. Pascal Cygan got 10 starts in the year Arsenal went unbeaten.
Don't dare talk about Fortune with disrespect.
Hughes wouldn't have much of a say in transfer dealings anyway so maybe he wouldn't be all bad.
