Film Thread

Anyone seen Get Out yet? It's really good. Superbly creepy.

Desperate to see it, would nip to the cinema but skint due to recent purchases sadly.

I got a vague Sightseers vibe from the trailer, but I think that's at least in part because I know it's created by a comedian and started life as a comedic idea.

I feel like I've seen it all via the four or five trailers they've put out for it.

I watched Passengers last night. Never thought it before but Jennifer Lawrence looked really hot in some parts.

Film was okay, but it could have been a bit longer rather than leave it all up to the imagination. Decent premise though. I'd love for that to happen to me!

The trailer mainly just gives away most of the jump scares.

The whole plot is really well put together. My friend said the twist was predictable, but even if it is it doesn't harm the overall quality of the film.

Ray was a bit of a let down. Should've watched Mesrine instead, but oh well. Mesrine can wait until tomorrow.

Rogue One is good fun.

I didn't expect them to have the bottle to kill literally every new character, but I suppose logically those fucking heroes would have been part of the next step if they'd survived so it's really the only thing they could do.

Darth Vader clearing that corridor was the best part of the film by a million miles. In the original film he was basically a cracking character design that we were told was the biggest bastard in the universe, but he doesn't actually do a great deal to justify that reputation. It's all other people talking about what a cunt he is, and the scene establishing his fighting credentials, as I remember it, is him killing an old man who we're also only told is a top fighter. This film retroactively makes him a much better villain. Imagine if that had been his entry into the first film.

There were a few too many winks and nods for my liking, but they were all thrown in casually enough that it never became a big problem.

Apparently the ending was originally going to be different, with some characters surviving and with no Vader rampage.

Vanilla Sky was total shit.

Mesrine was a little bit different to what I was expecting. Man was a complete nutter.

Choices for tonight are Arrival, Ex Machina or The Martian.

I've heard Arrival is very good.

Arrival is the best of the three.

All three of those are brilliant. The Martian is the lightest of the three, while the other two are about equally heavy going.

Kubo and the Two Strings is probably the weakest of the Laika animations I've seen, but it's still very good. Whoever let Regina Spektor do a cover of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' can fuck right off though, and so can the film for alerting me to it.

I enjoyed Split. Its fucking ridiculous but McAvoy does a fantastic job.

Perfect Strangers. Its not deep but its a pleasant film.

Land of Mine, Chevalier and Hard to Be A God, the latter especially if you're feeling masochistic.

I was looking at Land of Mine and Chevalier earlier when I was browsing through Kodi. Thought they sounded interesting.

Having looked up Hard to be a God, I remember reading about that a while ago. Probably a bit much for tonight though.

I'll give Perfect Strangers a go sometime too but I think I'll watch Chevalier now.

I liked Arrival, wouldn't say I absolutely loved it though.

Too many films recently seem to fire right into the crux of the plot without really introducing the characters or setting the scene. I didn't really feel like I cared for anyone in the film so was less invested in it.

Damn every release out has them. They prob upped the mkv with them built in but no option to turn 'em on.

If it has subtitles in the first place then you're probably not missing out.

The CGI in that somehow looks worse than that in BvS, even though it basically looks like the same film.

I was hoping that they'd manage to sort their shit out for the Justice League film.

Based on that I was very wrong.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was absolutely fantastic.

Obviously the Danish version, not the hollywood version. Really annoyed at myself I've had it for probably 2-3 years and not bothered to stick it on.
