Max hates moving under braking too...
I can't pretend to understand the specifics if I'm being honest, but in the F1tv broadcast, both the main caster, whoever that is and David Coulthard were in agreement that Max wasn't completely wrong when he complained about it on comms, so I was going off that. If they thought he had a case, the stewards probably also did.
That's not to say he shouldn't have been punished, rather that they saw a chance to let him off, as they are wont to do.
I think a racing incident for this one is fair. If you watch again, Hamilton does start to move right. It's only a little, but it's enough to make Max to have to adjust to the point where he was never going to make that corner. You can see Lewis start to turn in, notice Max has locked it all up and then he tries to move left again, but then it's too late kind of a 60/40. Stewards will have said the loss of places for the move was punishment enough. What will likely annoy Max more is he didn't have to do it. He'd have got by the next time around.
What he does need a big slap for is his radio conduct. Over the years we've heard many a top driver complaining about the tyre set or what have you, but he was way too much today. Even GP told him he was being childish.
Get fucked Red Bull. SO here for their tears. If McLaren – and both Norris and Piastri – have got even a modicum of sense, they'll kiss and make up pronto here and then just kill the opposition for the rest of the season. And if they were even more sensible, they'll call off the fight between the two of them now and put all their eggs in Norris's basket. Because with Perez at RB, there is a genuine chance they could be two-on-one vs Verstappen in just about every race for the rest of the season. Put everything behind a Norris title charge, and then even up the team balance next season.
Embarrassing stuff from 'the papaya cars', what a way to win your first grand prix. Stick an asterisk next to it. He wasn't trying to close so he could keep his tyres fresher no doubt as he wouldn't have had the actual pace to hold off Norris for 10 laps or whatever.
Also many lols at Max. The just shut up you twat feedback got was great and particularly the Hamilton 'moving under braking' line ie trying to make a corner which Verstappen had no intention of making, what is the alternative, you just have to go off as well because some idiot is taking the F1 1997 line into the first corner at Hokkenheim?
In Max's defence he was absolutely right about them completely fucking his race with the 'offset strategy'. I refer to previous comments on the subject where that seems to have such a low percentage chance of ever working, particularly on a track where it is almost impossible to pass.
The seethe.
The race itself was pretty shit but between McLaren and Max it was entertaining enough.
It’ll take a while getting used to Norris being the bookies fav every week
He really needs to sort out his starts. In all of his 5 pole positions. He has never led into lap one.

He knows he's safe because of Daddy.
To be fair, asking drivers to swap positions back there is such small-time mentality. I know Alonso let him pass and all, but yeah I think the article is making a big deal out of a whole lot of nothing.
Alonso deserved it for throwing his clothes literally on the floor for someone to pick up after moaning about the Tsunoda red flag in quali
Seems justified.
Surely not. :D
Alpine are dumping the Renault engine and going with Mercedes.
Hang on. Aren't they owned by Renault?
The engine is the only thing built in France, so they'll become a full British team.
The French lol.
Sounds like Verstappen is taking an engine penalty this weekend. He done it before and won from p14 but I’m not sure this car is all that right now.
It’s coming home
RB are also apparently banning him from sim racing the night before a race :harold:
Of course.
I read he’s averaging a new engine every 3 races. Is that normal?
It's not far off. They reuse them later on in the season, so unless they blow up it's not a big deal. Red Bull obviously think it's worth a penalty to give them another fresh one for the back end of the season.
This take is late and not pertinent but Nico Rosberg is a truly fascinating creature of modern media. I find him creepy, weird and immensely off putting to the point I want to turn my tv off when he’s on it but at the same time he’s the only person on there that knows what they’re talking about and is correct 99.999% of the time.
I find his tone and delivery really really weird, but I do agree it's only really him and Button who bring any proper insight from a modern F1 perspective. Coulthard was quite good on the Hungary race too, given his experience. I also think Jolyon Palmer is very good on the BBC comms.
He's a weird bloke (he comes across just as weird in German so it's not a second language trait) but clearly is the most knowledgeable and also isn't afraid to stir some shit in situations where you'd get the likes of Button backing out of it.
They just need to pay whatever bank is required to get JV on every week and I'm happy.
Ocon to Hass confirmed.
Verstappen race pace looked ridiculous. If he wins from outside the top 10 again
Yuki starting in France this weekend.
I thought they got rid of that sort of thing?
They should just make it a hard cap for lolz. No engine? Good luck. Like losing your star man to a cruciate ligament injury. Season in the bin. Even more lift and coast.
Or it's like PE when you forget your kit. Someone ends up with a 1998 Mechachrome in the back. It'll sound amazing until it blows up.
It’s a fucking joke. Now you’ll get someone taking a 5 place penalty for whatever replacement part and still starting 15th. They should stop-go these cunts like Formula E.
If you're taking 60 place grid penalties you should, since there are 20 cars, start three laps down.
Not an actual sport though so you can do what the hell you like and be within 5 seconds of the leaders on race day.
Or take as many spots as possible depending on where you qualify each week until the 60 places are consumed.
Remaining on the “not a real sport” topic, I just saw Verstappen got fined €100 yesterday.
Was that just for the swear jar?
Obviously the FIA overdid it with said fines, so they revoked them today. Saved Verstappen from the brink of financial ruin.
I’m assuming McLaren are on a race set up here as they are normally shit hot in the wets but I’m not even sure either will be T4 here for the race. Not the end of the world as quite easy to take over here.
Verstappen going to finish half a second clear for if not more
He did two laps that were more than half a second faster than anyone else on the track. Quite ridiculous.
Where did that come from by Leclerc?
They had a new set of Inters whereas everyone other than Verstappen had just the one
You’d assume tomorrow should be mega with the mclarens and Verstappen coming through the field. Can’t imagine Perez or Leclerc do much in the race
Leclerc has always been rapid over one lap. It's all of his race day mistakes/Ferrari "strategy" that holds him back.
Looks like Max has the car back as he wants it now though. Trouble for those ahead of him tomorrow.
I could be completely wrong but surely he’s going to suffer somewhat tomorrow. Not a chance he’s going half a second clear every session on wets if his set up isn’t more geared towards it
I'll be shocked if he's not at least on the podium. Just needs to keep his nose clean into T1.
Think it’ll depend on how quickly he can clear the first few cars. He’s going to suffer in the straights tomorrow (compared to usual)
Quite a few teams suffered in the race last year with their higher downforce on the dry track (though it ended up raining again at the end which meant they somewhat made up for it. No chance of rain tomorrow though)
I can't wait for him to win and then say it's because he got loads of wet practice in on iRacing over the past week.
Crofty might implode.
Rumour of the day is Sainz to Williams is done verbally. They'll sign the contract after this race weekend is over. It'll be a lengthy deal but with a proviso that he can leave from 2026 onwards to either Red Bull or Mercedes.
