It was a toss-up between Foden and Rashbeck coming on for Saka, so obviously pick the worse option.
Fuck it, I'll say it - I can still remember how much I was ridiculed for saying before the final last year he should go come what may after it. There is simply no progress, no learning, he just does the same shit every single time and odd aberration aside, it's fucking hideous to watch. If we don't win there is simply nothing redeeming about this England team.
Wouldn't mind seeing England v Ecuador, especially if Enner Valencia is fit.
Both sides have been atrocious in this game, but the Americans have been bad because they're a bad team with bad players. We've made a conscious choice to play badly. It's remarkable.
Gio Reyna to win it.
"If you get a point you're stopping the opposition from getting three"
Lee Dixon with a peach.
Matterface explains everything with the permutation there. A point qualifies England if we avoid a 4-0 defeat to Wales. That's what Gareth's thinking.
It's astonishing when we break how few bodies we have going forward.
Referee blows his whistle for everything. Chill out bro
Load of gutless shite. I hate Southgate so much.
Still, he's got pace around him and the game's been played at no tempo.
I was so angry watching that. I can't believe the national manager thinks he can approach a World Cup game like that.
Pure cowardice.
Rage inducing.
Ghastly performance and the worst game I've seen so far this tournament. Well done Gareth.
If Wales win 4 or 5-0
I can understand it in the knockouts but the group stage (and the win against Iran) give you room for error. It'll be the same again for the Wales match. :moop:
I've got no issue with that, it can work at club level if you're brave. And we have the quality to be brave and push players forwards beyond Kane to take advantage of those situations, but it's seeping out of us with each game we play under Southgate.
I'd love to be proven wrong over the course of this World Cup but I can't see it.
That was absolutely fucking dreadful.
That Kane header went in in James' spreadsheet so it was a result.
I couldn't give a crap what he does in the Nations League when the players are tired/focused on other things. In the World Cup you have to try to win all your games. If you don't then you might as well give up sport and become an insurance loss adjuster, or a fund manager.
It's also the fact that he thinks the job of the England manager is to get us out of the group stage and 'on to the knockouts', when in fact it's to create a good England team that plays well and gives the country enjoyment. Results will follow.
I'd love to see a Venn diagram of Bruce supporters and Southgate supporters to weed out the biggest mongs on the board.
That was horrendous. Not an ounce of character in this side.
I think that's just yev.
Kane's been doing this for ages including when he was fucking awful for the first however many games of the Euros. He's not simply dropping deep, he's drifting back to his own half and leaving us absolutely nothing to aim at if we are trying to do something direct and is not infrequently nowhere to be fucking seen when we counter.
I'm not talking about the Nations League, I was saying he should leave last year, partly because he's a negative fucker. So when he was creaming himself over losing to Belgium and playing five at the back with two holding midfielders, what were you not seeing then that you are now?
This approach is not new or something confined to glorified friendlies.
You can hear the Southgate loud and clear in that Kane interview. 'Good position in the group'. Not as good as winning the game though, eh Harry.
Southgate to Foden:

I really don't know what you do with Kane at this point. First half he seemed to (largely) stay up top but he did absolutely fuck all. Second half he drops much too deep but was probably the only player actually driving us forward, but there was obviously no one up top to do anything with it. I think I was onto something when I converted him to a CM on FM.
All round terrible performance but yea, as soon as I realised a point all but qualified us, it was obvious what was going to happen. I love Saka, but he was fucking dross tonight, did nothing but lose the ball and sky his one chance. Foden not replacing him at Half Time was criminal.
You’re definitely switching to a 5 at the back and knocking France out now
Agree on 2018 and on the whole, I was alright with that tournament. Well apart from seemingly not trying against Belgium as that's never acceptable, but the signs were all there in Euro 2020 as well, negative as you like and we were basically playing at home too.
That result as good as knocks out Wales, so maybe Southgate's more of a patriot than I thought.
What a shitey interview this is from Southgate.
Do you think Southgate would take the coward wheels off against the Dutch? Not a chance. At least against Ecuador we might play like a team in charge. That's what winds me up about tonight. It was on the table and we decided not to press on. Even as the match went on, they didn't deviate from plan A.
I don't think he'd take the coward wheels off against Ecuador, not in a knockout game.
I feel Ecuador would do better at trying to take the game to England whilst the Dutch would also be happy to slap some coward wheels on and hope for a set piece goal or something.
