The more I think of it, his animated gesturing saved his life.

When something like this happens and you get exposed to more interviews etc. with Americans, it really does hit home quite how utterly deranged so many of them are.
What would actually need to happen to have them want to Bam guns? School shootings aren't enough. Presidential assassinations aren't enough. Kids shooting their own parents aren't enough. Where's the line?
Someone would have to successfully assassinate the father, son and holy spirit.
And even then it'd be at best a 2 day cool off period before you're allowed to open carry your AR-15.
I don't think there is a line. They just will not have it that their guns could be taken away. Any politician that would promise to do so would never be elected.
You and I see it the opposite way round to them. They genuinely believe that more good guys with guns is the only way to counter bad guys with guns.
Trump nearly getting shot will only have convinced them they - the good guys - all need more guns to protect their Messiah from the bad guys.
That's the entrenched belief you're up against and why nobody will ever win the gun regulation argument in America.
It's a genie you can't quite put back in the bottle. It's an industry. At best, you turn gun ownership into a privilege. Something you can only do at the gun club. If a gun's at home, exercise a one-in-the-chamber policy. One bullet. If someone breaks in, you've got one shot. If you fancy killing yourself, you're covered.
Gun suicides still leading the way.
Agree with RL. We even sent Piers Morgan over, in full on Piers Morgan mode and his arguments had absolutely no impact with anyone he was talking to whatsoever. Never is a strong word, but unless there's a wholesale cultural change in the US there is no chance of proper gun control there and even if there is, you still have to get past the NRA.
Nothing will make them want to ban guns. It's like asking us what would make us want to ban beer. The starting point is guns/beer, any negative consequences are just secondary and unimportant.
I talked to an American a while back who was completely baffled, and in fact quite upset and insulted, by the fact that many Europeans don't consider hunting to be a morally sound activity, whereas he enjoyed shooting pigs of a weekend and couldn't believe he was being judged for it. Because we consume all their movies and TV we like to think we are in their heads but we are absolutely not, it's a world apart.
There has to be a line. Everyone has their price and all that. I'm just wondering where it is. Niko probably isn't far wrong with the assassination of the Holy Trinity.
Maybe it has to get to the point where almost everyone is just wandering around with assault rifles and there are frequent, massive public battles in Walmart etc, but then you probably just have a breakdown of civil society and the guns become an essential survival item. At this point it can't be far removed from us trying to ban knives to stop knife crime.
Don't America have worse knife crime than us too? They did have, anyway.

As Bowling for Columbine posited, what, 20 years ago [?], they're just naturally more homicidal people.
My point about knives is that it is obviously an impractical and unworkable solution and for Americans guns have the same every day utility as knives.
Granted, but I need a knife to make dinner. They don't need a gun to order their McWhoppers unless they do so via explosive morse code, which I acknowledge is a possibility.
They need a gun to defend their home, their family and their god given constitutional right to have said gun, all of which rate above your need for sustenance.
They think the guns are at making-dinner levels of importance.
Jim's correct. If you've ever been to the US and off the beaten path of Florida and theme parks you find yanks will start striking up conversations with you out of the blue when they notice you're from across the pond. One woman who did this to us truly couldn't comprehend there being no widespread use of guns in the UK, and the thought of it terrified her. She felt much safer when everyone had guns, even if that included the criminally insane.
I think I've been here for ~15 years now and no one has ever talked to me about guns.
Trying to reason through it is futile. It is an identity thing for a large number of people. "Guns" is basically who they are. Add the two party nonsense and accepting banning guns is accepting you lost and that you are not part of the country anymore.
Nobody approaching the cartel banger about guns, consider me shocked.
The wins just keep on coming for Donald with the documents case being thrown out, even if the judge and decision is absolutely crackers.
Their whole system is absolute fucked and rotten from top to bottom, which is pretty lol considering how sanctimonious they always are about it as being the paradigm of enlightened society.Quote:
In a dramatic decision, issued Monday morning from her court in Florida, she held that the mere existence of special counsels - how they are appointed and how they are funded - violates the US Constitution.
Now might not be a bad time to get your bets on Biden to win. 5/1!
The next veep is going to be younger than me. Sobering.
The geezer introduced his ally as his enemy and his opponent as his deputy at an international conference, would you trust him to make you a cup of coffee without fucking it up at this point?
If his cognitive decline continues by the time the next tv debate rolls around he'll be answering questions with his sexual fetish preferences.
Did Biden really say something about Trump being a bullseye target mere days before his assassination attempt? Not so demented after all...
Well, there's plenty of tweets like this saying he did, but unfortunately you can't trust anything you read anymore and - even if it is legit - he clearly doesn't mean "someone should shoot him lolol".
I'd have gone eighteen double sixteen myself.
They really should have gone with that.
:D
They'd struggle to be older.
The sheer level of incompetence from the Secret Service in all this Trump shooting business is amazing. Definite deep state inside job had he not missed.
The part where they lifted him up for another crack was the best part. Maybe the second shooter got given the wrong postcode.
I know it's a bit after-eventing but the secret service has always struck me as a bunch of largely useless, middle-aged balding/fat men trying to look cool and full of their own self-importance.
Kind of miss Twitter at times like these.
However I just logged back in and it's full of TEN THINGS posts. Fuck right off.
You know it's over when even this flid is turning on him.
"But Trump is not all there mentally as well"
