Team is in transition after the loss of Brionne to a Salandit's Dragon Rage (fuck off). Only Diglett remains from the island one team and has been joined by a bunch from the second. Drowzee fell to a Cubone and Kangaskhan double team. The squad, having beaten the fire totem, is:

Used up quite a few Potions keeping everyone alive in the grass totem fight. Thought it would be easy enough if it brings out its pre-evo but it chucked a Castform in there who proceeded to set up Sunny Day for it. In the end it ran out of Synthesis and was just using Razor Leaf, so I finished it off with an Ice Fang or something. Now off to fight the Kahuna with the following team:

I also have a Pancham that I've considered trading for Happiny... a Blissey would be :drool: but I'm not sure I can be bothered.

So looks like my Nuzlocke might be close to the end.
Kiawe's Salazzle was really not a problem. Indeed one of the defining features of my run has been the fact that Herdier's Breakneck Blitz absolutely steamrolls anyone in it's path. In 99% of battles it's a OHKO and this was enabling me to cruise through to the 4th Totem, being Mallow's Lurantis.
Ho-Lee Shit.
I knew Torracat would be front and centre but the combination of some throughly punishing Solar Blades and Trumbeak's Pluck was really making things difficult. I lost Kadabra very early on and ended using Gyarados to Intimidate (knowing that his Flying sub-type meant he took neutral damage from Grass attacks) and Herdier to use Baby-Doll Eyes to try and stem the absolutely brutal punishment that my team was taking. Lurantis was at -2 attack but that Synthesis meant I couldn't do anything and Solar Blade was still denting me. Even the Breckneck Blitz wasn't enough to really tip the battle in my favour.
Then I lost Torracat to a critical Pluck and Cubone went very shortly afterwards as a sacrifice.
Herdier managed to get rid of Trumbeak, after which Castform came in to use Sunny Day all the fucking time. A Weather Ball from him then killed Herdier.
I then got into an almightly battle of attirition. My Gyarados had Intimidated again, so a -1 Castform and -3 Lurantis were not able to do much but then again I wasn't really doing much either. After burning through all the Synthesis we won, but it came at such a steep price that I'm properly burned out myself. I can safely say that was the most draining battle I've had so far.
I therefore have a team of;
Lvl 23. Gyarados
Lvl 22. Makuhita
Lvl 19. Growlithe (Box)
Lvl 18. Eevee (Box)
Lvl 17. Yungoos (Box)
I don't know. If I hadn't lost Herdier I could have seen me going on but having my team completely gutted (and missing out on a Parasect from the jungle because of a critical hit Take Down) means I've got little take on Olivia with, or I simply have to grind like hell to get there.
I might struggle on a little longer though, just to see if I can pull this one out of the bag.
You'll be fine. Scald on Gyarados and Makuhita is pretty close to evolving.
Edit: Diglett in the tunnel on the way to Olivia and you are sorted.
That's the battle that wiped out my first Nuzlocke attempt. In hindsight I should have carried on with PC Pokemon, but the thought of grinding them made me not want to do it.Quote:

You probably made a mistake going for Breakneck Blitz over Torracat's Z Move. I OHKOed it with that on my 2nd run, albeit I think I was around Level 30.
Where be the Thunder Stone? I'll have an Arcanine when I'm ready to evolve Growlithe and I have a Gyarados so while he won't be useful for Olivia, a Jolteon could be useful long term.
Caught a Zubat in the Diglett cave as well. Fan-fucking-tastic.
Near the Jungle where the grass totem was there's another entrance with a camper van thing in it. It's round the back of the Van. Route 8.
Olivia wasn't that bad just watch out for Sturdy.

Olivia wasn't too difficult in all honesty although it showed me how outclassed Growlithe is and as a result I took the decision to use my Fire Stone on him. I would forgo Outrage and Flare Blitz, but in a few levels he'll learn Extremespeed so there's that at least.
So Jolteon died shortly after evolving and Phantump was eliminated by a Hariyama I underestimated. Finally while training up new Pokemon around Malie City, Muk killed Gumshoos which was annoying to say the least as he was starting to become something of a clutch Pokemon for me.

Now means the top two are by far the longest survivors, as they were both caught on Route 2. The bottom two are new as of about 10 minutes ago, with one being Route 10 and the other being Malie City Garden.
Seeing as the next trial is Electric type, I may struggle.

Just taken down the 3rd Big Kahuna Burger, which was tougher than expected with my high levels. I went for my starter as I didn't know his typing but he had a fair few Super Effective moves. Still, with a little help from a couple of others, we overcome with no deaths. Team stands as:

In summary Electivire is gone which fucking hurts, but we move on.
Been playing a lot of Showdown recently - scarf Kartana, specs Tapu Lele & Mega Gyarados is a pretty powerful combo. Generally Gyarados & Tapu Lele will be the ones smashing holes in teams for Kartana to clean up, but I'm pretty sure I've swept entire teams with all three.
Currently still tweaking around a core of those three plus offensive Alolan Marowak, but currently rolling nature's madness Tapu Fini & AV Magnezone, which both do okay, but not enough to stop me wanting to find something better,
I've grinded up my Charjabug 3 levels and I'm already bored. Only at least another 10 to go...
My other alternative is Alolan Golem. On the one hand, it would be good to have a Rock type to take some Take Downs/Hyper Fangs/Those type of powerful moves.... on the other hand.... So many weaknesses.
Tough call to make really. My enthusiasm is zapped big time.
Fuck sake.
Gyarados against Alolan Geodude. Easy experience to take Gyarados up a level and what do I get?

Time to see what new boy Minior can do.
Minior used Self Destruct. Minior fainted. There goes my catch for that route.
Turns out Minior can't do shit.
Rather I was unlucky that when switching out, Metang chose to use Pursuit which meant Minior is probably the quickest death I've had thus far.
The Electric Totem was no joke either, I was able to talk most hits with Arcanine but it required a sacrifice and poor Ariados was the chosen offering. After a couple of Intimidates and an Inferno Overdrive, we made our way back to Malie City to face Guzma for the first time.
Okay so Golisopod must be the most intimidating Pokemon ever, Bug/Water is the worst type for me to face as well. Razor Shell started to cut through my team. Fearow and Golbat struggled and there's no way I was using my new Pokemon (taken from the box) Nosepass due to him being Lvl 21.
Hariyama was able to tank a few hits and push back but unfortunately then died to a critical hit Razor Shell. Arcanine forced him out and then killed Ariados before using Inferno Blitz and Take Downs to just about beat him. Yet again, Arcanine saves the day.
So into Route 12 where I caught a Torkoal (because a Fire type is really what I need right now) and then Route 13 I caught a Magikarp.
Gyarados is back baby!
Or will be in 9 levels.

So where I am there's a desert and village nearby but also a Ghost trial. And I really don't have anything good against Ghosts except for the Dark type moves on Fearow and Arcanine.

I can see there's a good chance to get some decent Pokemon in the Desert and Village.

Well I didn't find Shadow Ball as it stands and I went in with a couple of fresh new recruits being Alolan Raticate and Alolan Vulpix.
Then the trial tore my team apart. I figured Vulpix was a no go due to its unevolved state and I was leading off with Raticate, who promptly died to a Play Rough.
After that the ally Hunter wreaked havoc just by using Hypnosis to stop any sort of momentum from being built while Mimikyu inflicted chip damage effectively.
Torkoal did some good work, burning Mimikyu and killing Haunter, which just brought out Gengar and it's fucking Shadow Ball.
I'll have nightmares about that Shadow Ball. Mimikyu was dead at this point but Gengar tore through what was left of my team. Arcanine died after being unable to keep up with the Shadow Ball which was just reducing Special Defense constantly. My clutch'mon, dead.
It was devastating frankly, and I thought I was getting wiped in all honesty. I wanted to try and struggle through however.
Gyarados stood no chance naturally.
So it was all down to Golbat, who I found could actually resist Shadow Ball to some degree. I simply waited and burned out the Shadow Ball PP before finishing things off.
Golbat evolved as well, which was nice.
So team torn apart, was time to rebuild again. I wanted to level up in the Megamart and I caught a Finneon on Route 14 to help, as well as finally getting some luck and catching a Mimikyu in the Megamart!
I'LL MAKE YOU SUFFER YOU ARCANINE KILLING COCKMONGREL.

That's a lot of team to lose, although Mimikyu is well worth a spot on the team, and Ninetales could be handy, especially if you can get it to learn Aurora Veil (essentially Reflect & Light Screen packaged generously into one move). Probopass is a pretty solid tank, although I don't think you can evolve it until near the end of the game, so chuck an eviolite on it when you can & it should be able to take a few hits for you.
Who would have thought we'd one day live in a world where Leech Life made X Scissor completely redundant?

The whole time I grinded in that place I didn't see 1 Mimikyu.
Wow that is brutal. Unlucky. Can't help but think a bit of grinding would have helped though especially with the amount of exp being thrown at you by the Raticates and other things on the routes nearby.
My team is pretty settled now. We dispatched the electric totem with ease using Dugtrio's Rock Tomb and the Team Skull boss wasn't too much of a problem once his 'mon wimped out having set up 2 sword dances. Added a Morelull and Electabuzz to the PC, so if disaster strikes I'm covered.

Struggling to get into this, it's just too cumbersome. All I want to do is catch Pokemon, battle trainers and get badges. I don't want to spend half an hour talking to some bint, a suspiciously Asian Hawaiian and a topless bloke. Fuck haircuts and clothes as well. Just let me crack on.
Just press a. Get through the first hour as quick as you can, it does open up a lot more afterwards with the odd "fuck off and leave me alone" moments.

I know. I've not started the 'tasks' bit yet (Or have I? I fought Team Chav then battled the Sailor I saved. Didn't read what he was saying though).
I'll reserve judgement on that score.
You can all pick up a Magearna when you beat the game, by the way. Serebii have the QR code up on their site, and scanning it puts a delivery man out for you to pick it up from.
I've also found a website that has QR codes for every pokemon in the dex, plus loads of shiny forms, although I don't really understand what I'm meant to do with that :D
Lost Toucannon to a pair of Tentacools. Was trying to catch one and was killing off the other, but every time I killed one another would spawn. At the same time the other one was using Acid Spray to lower my S.Defense and Wrap to keep me from switching. Finally one of them used Bubblebeam to leave Toucannon on 3HP which got removed by the ongoing Wrap. Boo. At least now I have a slot in the team for a Morelull which has since evolved into Shiinotic.
So the run is over unfortunately.
Without spoiling too much there is a particular area between Ula'Ula and Poni islands which is a bit of a slog.
I lost Raticate very early on and I realised that I would be relying very heavily on Crobat here. We struggled through, although Mimikyu died when I got cocky and thought it could tank a Psychic move from Bruxish.
We then had to face a certain boss with a certain Bug/Water type and this put some immense pressure on, leading to me sacrificing Nosepass to give me time to heal Crobat.
This meant we ended up facing the boss with Crobat, Ninetales and Lumineon. It started off alright, Crobat got rid of Clefairy and Bewear but started to suffer heavily as a result. I kind of knew where this was going.
As a result Mismagius downed Crobat and after getting rid of her, Ninetales was able to put Lilligant down. Which just left Milotic.
I hate Milotic. It's very tanky and unless you have super effective moves, you'll struggle. I had a decent start as Lumineon's Storm Drain absorbed the Hydro Pump but as I wore it down l, Flail got more and more powerful. In the end Lumineon couldn't quite manage it and a weakened Ninetales couldn't last long against Flail and Hydro Pump.
So a full wipe before the 4th island. It's weird, I gave myself more mercy rules than most runs but this felt like a Nuzlocke. It was brutal and I had to rebuild my team twice already. I had 27 deaths believe it or not and I'll be ready for the next run when I get Pokemon Moon. At least I won't be playing this one blind again.
So time to finish the game anyway. I'll drag some old favorites from the box and probably go with a team of;

Yeah I think I'll start again. I've always been more resilient to the tedium that is introductions and it'll allow me to post my thoughts on the actual story as well because it's very much a case of 1 step forward, 3/4 of a step back.
Yeah, that fight Byron whited out on is brutal. Bearing in mind she has five Pokemon, all of my Pokemon were on yellow and red health at the end of the fight. I lost Dugtrio to Golisopod in the previous fight so only had five usable Pokes but I just about managed it in the end. The team which moves on to the fourth island is:

Klefki - 31 (place holder for absolutely anything else)
I've just looked over my battle write ups I posted to the people I'm also Nuzlocking with (or were, until they all failed and continued as normal, so now I'm the only one still playing through). That fight wasn't too rough for me. Mudsdale easily saw off Clefable thanks to having a Steel move, Incineroar burnt through Lilligant, Tsareena took down Milotic and Sylveon eased past Mismagius. The problem was the last one, Bewear or whatever he's called. That missed take down that would have killed Sylveon was huge for me. Had he hit it he'd have died to the recoil so I would have got through, but losing Sylveon would have been a massive blow.
Planning to pick this up again tomorrow, I tend to take breaks whenever I go back to work. Pretty much decided on Charjabug to come back and replace Electivire. It sucks that that gives me 2 Bug Types in the team, but oh well.
Just lost Gyarados to a wild Raticate getting a critical hit with Double Edge. Slowpoke replaces it and Aerodactyl comes in for Klefki.
EDIT: Aerodactyl lost now too. This is going to be fun...
Picked up Exeggutor and lost Slowbro to Mudsdale's Z-move thing. Pelipper comes in as a Water type until I can find something better, probably Gyarados. Team moving through the Vast Poni Canyon is:

Having got Charjabug to level 42 I was bored so I carried on. The first trainer I come up against had a Garbodor which proved troublesome, Incineroar took it out but was left weak and pretty much unusable. She then brings in Toxapex or whatever it's called. From the name I deduced it was poison and it looked like Water.... which would rule out Sylveon, Tsareena or Mudsdale getting involved. I sent in my Spider thing who was left on 12HP by it's Z-Move. He had to come out or I'd lose him so I switched to Charjabug and he used Protect which was lucky. The luck continued when Spark Paralysed him but after a few turns I was in a position where I could not kill him and one shot would kill me. My allowed heal was used but as Charjabug was, I guess, the Pokemon I'd choose to lose if I had to, I didn't switch. My gut instinct told me the cunt was going to move this turn, but not next turn. Banking everything on it I used Dig. He moved and missed. I came up and did a little damage, enough to put him in range for Spark to kill. He didn't move. :D Boom!
Back to the grind I think.....
Vikavolt is fantastic by the way. Far and away the highest Special Attack in my team. Shiinotic is awesome too. Spore, Dream Eater, Giga Drain and Moonblast. Sexy moveset.
Shiinotic is no Tsareena. :cool:
I'm also put off using Sleep moves as they seem to miss all the time.
Special Attack? Fuck off. All the special moves I've passed on because Charjabug has no special. :(
Spore is 100% accuracy. Only problem is Shiinotic is slow.
Vika gets Thunderbolt when it evolves. Needs a move tutor for Bug Buzz though.
Finally getting some decent back ups as I've bagged Gastrodon and Exeggutor. I'm a bit skeptical about using the latter as technically it wasn't my first encounter as I killed the one you're forced to encounter, but then I didn't even know if that was catchable, so I'm counting this one. Still wont be used unless something happens to Tsareena though.
Just got to here. Given she talked about Z-Moves I knew Mudsdale would be the one to have one. Tsareena made light work of Dugtrio with High Jump Kick and Sylveon was called on for Flygon, another OHKO with Moonblast. Then in came Mudsdale so I had a decision to make. Expecting a Z-Move I switched to my own Mudsdale but she used Earthquake which did a fair amount (maybe 30%) but raised my defense. I Earthquaked her back hoping my level advantage would tell but mine didn't do much more than hers and a second Earthquake had me fairly weak. At that point I could have used my one allowed heal and let her keep raising my defense, but I decided to switch to Tsareena. OF COURSE she then pulled out the Z-Move, but she took it easily. I knew I'd be faster so went for Bloom Doom (Z-Move) for the kill and it was easy to take out Gastrodon with Trop Kick.Quote:

Apart from Araquanid (is it any good?) Your team looks fantastic. Pretty much what a non-nuzlocke team would look like for me.
He's pretty decent because his ability doubles the power of Water Type moves (at least I hear it does, it doesn't say that.... but i've read it in several places) so that's decent, but he needs a better water move than Bubblebeam. I'd prefer not having 2 bugs, but it is what it is.
Araquanid is great. As has been said, Water Bubble doubles the power of water attacks, so when it learns Liquidation it hits like a fucking truck. Leech Life is great secondary STAB, especially during a Nuzlocke, and it has pretty good SpDef to be able to take some hits if needed.
In before Tsareena misses HJK at a crucial moment & gets KO'd.
Indeed, I'm terrified of that which is why I'm always reluctant to use it. I'd much prefer a better fighting move. Tempted to go back to Low Sweep in fairness.
Jesus, the crash damage is 50%? Fuck that.
Though looks like those are her only two fighting type moves.... tough call.
After all that..... RIP Araquanid. Fuck sake. It was my own stupidity there. He came up against Archeops or whatever it's called and I figured with my level advantage I could one shot him with Bubblebeam..... he was faster and I died to Acrobatics. No idea why I didn't consider that.
I'm cursed to be forever trying to catch up shit water types.
RIP :( Archeops is super fast - base 140 speed, if I remember correctly. It's a better Aerodactyl, except that it has an ability that completely ruins almost everything good about it.
I should probably do some of the post-game stuff, but I really can't be bothered with it. Turns out there were several areas I never even went to as well :D Probably going to ask for Moon as an Xmas present, but I might restart Y & have another go at a Nuzlocke on that in the meantime.
I have to say as much as the game so far has impressed me, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with this section of the game. The Team Skull/President battles were decent enough but I feel like about the last 8 routes have had the same selection of shit Pokemon.... Gumshoos, Pelliper, Gastrodon, Exeggcute.... would it kill them to throw some other fuckers into the mix once in a while? Gumshoos and Pelliper seem to have been on every route since time began.
I guess Gastrodon is the next man up just by virtue of his level. I actually quite like Gastrodon, so it's not all bad.... but it's a tad boring.
I realised I didn't catch anything in one area after only fishing up Magikarp for ages and looking into it I can get Wimpod there to replace Araquanid.... trouble is I can't seem to get one to appear. Any ideas?
Give Tsareena the fighting z-crystal. Never have to worry about missing again.
For Wimpod, I think once it runs away it has gone for ever. Try another Wimpod route and see if it comes back.
The only place I know there are Wimpod is the empty riverbed or whatever it is - think it's in the area of the water trial - where there's always one hanging around & it runs away as soon as you get close & you can't catch it by foot. You can catch up to those if you're on a ride pokemon though, but otherwise I don't think i even saw a Wimpod in the wild.
I'll just stick with Gastrodon, Wimpod is too much hassle.

Lost Vikavolt in the exact same place as you, but Salazzle saved the day. Going to use Solgaleo because the rest of the team is mediocre at best.
Beat the next battle without too much trouble. Then again I did use Solgaleo for the majority of it. On the mountain I caught a male Snorunt, if it was female I would have considered using it. But Glalie is boring, so off to the box he went.

So glad I made my "One heal plus one more for every time they heal" rule, watching some other Nuzlockes while grinding on mine and heal spam is such a shit strategy and should be banned from all Nuzlocke's, as should the Shift battle style. No point half arsing a Nuzlocke by having crutches. I've just seen a guy heal spam on that Raichu until it ran out of Psychics... so lame.
I think I'm going to boot Gastrodon despite his heroics and spend the time to train up Slowpoke instead. I just feel a Psychic type will be a big bonus to the team.
I think I finished the main story around 60-65.

Pretty sure you'll come unstuck in the Pokemon League. With each person potentially carrying 6 Pokemon, switching around will cause you to accumulate a lot of damage which you can't heal back with just one potion. Unless you are just going to train all your 'mon to 70, in which case you'll be "lame" for doing that. No need to be so judgemental.
If I do, so be it, that's the point of making it tougher. Heal spamming to survive a Nuzlocke is just pathetic, especially doing it to run down their PP because nothing you have can take two psychics. I just don't see the point in deliberately playing a mode that makes it challenging and then allowing yourself to do stuff like that. I've done it in the past and then always feel bad about it, like I didn't deserve to beat that gym or whatever.
I don't think every Nuzlocke should have the 1 Potion rule, but they should all have some cap on healing items (healing moves are fair game, but none of my Mons have tried learning any that I recall). Any idiot can beat anything in the game if they say "Right, his Psychic puts me on 30HP and he might be faster so I'll use 20 Hyper Potions (or whatever the PP is) and then when he's using Quick Attack I'll kill him", Grinding at least carries some risk. I've both lost Pokemon whilst grinding and lost Pokemon I had specifically grinded during this run, but spamming hundreds of potions until they run out of PP/Miss/get paralysed etc is no achievement because it is literally impossible to lose when you do that.
Getting Slowbro and Golem up to speed is a hell of a mission, I wish I had just chosen Slowbro ahead of Gastrodon in the first place.
Part of me is tempted to go through the Ice Cave (caught an Absol there which isn't much use) but I fully expect some kind of horrible boss battle to strike half way through, unless Gladeon was it. It's probably not wise to do it with 2 mons that are about 20 levels off the pace.
We will get there, slowly but surely.
You can go through the Ice Cave no problem and you can reach a Pokecenter on the other side. Once you move on, there will be one more battle and you can probably guess who it is. They shouldn't pose too much trouble though.
For fuck sake. I turn on for 5 minutes and lose Slowbro to a wild Granbull who seemed to be no threat. Play Rough did an insane amount considering how how my physical defense was and that was it. Luckily Gastrodon is still 6 levels higher than I managed to get Slowbro... but what a complete waste of time that was.
As long as you keep it away from Grass, Gastrodon might be brilliant. Use Scald and Toxic to get a status on them, then Recover until you win.
Not played for a few days. Really can't be bothered with the grind. Got Stoutland to 60, but the others are at least 5 levels behind.
I am in the same boat. Just can't be bothered. It feels like there should be more story. Usually the whole game builds to the E4, this time it just feels like it's there for the sake of it.
I've not played in at least a week, and have only done a tiny bit of the post-game 'story'. Haven't even bothered with most of the other bits like the Battle Tree or anything like that.
I did quite like the story though.

That was pretty bad. Had to rely on Solgaleo for the majority of the fights because things were hitting like trucks. Lost Stoutland to confusion and Pelipper to a Z-move. Then had to endure what felt like the longest end sequence ever. I started against the Elite 4 at 11.45, finally got a chance to save and quit 2 hours later. Shambles. I'm glad it is over.
Congratulations man, although that makes me nervous. I really need to get back to the grind and try and finish this off, just not finding the time.

Fired up Heart Gold for the hundredth time. Boxed starter Totodile and have picked up Hoothoot, Geodude, Wooper and Gastly before the first gym. Geodude should suffice.
Those games are so fucking bad after the first island. Largely because it's so horribly unbalanced, which is a shame because the first island is great. Taking on the Elite 4 at lv40-45 or whatever is just awful though, especially when you then go to Kanto & face Youngster trainers with lv50 first stage evolutions. Still played through the game two or three times by this point though, which is a lot for me.
Maybe they'll re-remake them at the next anniversary, balance them properly & add a decent story. HGSS 3D :drool:

I lost my first match today in a room battle (christ it took so much longer than a league/regular/just hit play battle), the guy had a pretty beastly deck. One of his Pokemon seemed to get multiple rolls on attacks every single time.

My deck seems pretty shit. I don't have anything good that can move 3 spaces which seems a massive disadvantage. Just hitting play takes me about 10 minutes to find a match.

Just won a match because the guy had a Bellsprout on his goal spot that kept getting purple moves so I couldn't beat it. I then move my Scyther into position so I could surround him and he attacked my Machamp to prevent it, got Sweet Scent which pulled Scyther closer and killed himself. :D
1 win and 1 loss in my matches today so I only have 4 of the 10 points. I lost to some dude who had Jolteon and just blitzed through me in about 3 turns. I hate when stuff like that happens.

Tried out my EXs in a match. Genosect is amazing, Greninja is decent, Manaphy is a bit shit but works well with Greninja. Undecided on if I'll keep Manaphy in the deck.
Looks like Genosect is one of the best Pokemon in the game, based on the fact there's a whole bunch of "plates" that only work with Genosect. What a boss.
Got a Charizard which is cool but will be hard to use as he's a one move.
Just lost my first duel because of a stupid rookie mistake.
Assuming you still have Charmander I would be tempted to buy a Charmeleon and set up the evolution chain.
It's easy to do just put Charmander in your deck and when he's in click the two dots underneath him on the edit figures page.
He can move 3 and I would assume Charmeleon is 2 so it would give you more freedom over where Charizard goes.
You can only evolve once your 'mon has taken someone down. If your Charmander is pants, you might never see Charmeleon let alone Charizard.

It started well for me, last 6 hours or have been trash.
I had a mammoth game earlier, took about 12 minutes or so, sadly I lost as I was a bit too defensive. Was my favourite game thus far though.
I just had a BS "time up loss" despite never in a million years taking that much time. Something fishy is going on with it every match and it's pissing me off.
It didn't help that I actually landed on my opponents goal during the match but I was surrounded when I did and died. When did it ever say being surrounded took priority over winning?
I definitely prefer attack to defence. Block their entry points and you are solid.
Had 2 matches today and won both after bizarre moves from my opponents.
In the first I moved into position to win and his only choice was to battle me with Ho-Oh and hope he got the kill. Instead he moved Ho-Oh away. Maybe he was giving up, but it felt weird as the KO would have sent me back to square one.
The second was better though. He had a Lucario one square past his entry point and I planned to jump over it. The turn before my jump he moved a Sliggo (sp?) off his bench from the other side. This meant if I jumped over Lucario he could move Sliggo into a position where he was 1 square away from surrounding me (and blocking the goal), giving me essentially 1 turn to kill either Lucario, Magmortar or Sliggo or else he would surround me. I fully expected him to either do that or engage me in battle using Lucario or Magmortar. Instead, after I jumped he switched Sliggo with Leafeon. I know Leafeon could move that extra square and thus kill me by surrounding, but he didn't get the chance as I just strolled to the goal.

Lapras is basically kept for the boost provided by Manaphy. I bought another pack today and got a 2nd Genosect EX and a Mew EX in it. Mew is, unfortunately, a bit shit. Right now I have a Jolteon (Rare) in that final spot but I barely ever move him off the bench. I need to find something useful.
Can someone tell me what the Cubes do? I know there are some you can sell and some that give you EXP, but I mean the ones that are like "Cube R" or "Cube C" and don't seem to do anything.

If they aren't there at all, go to messages and claim them. You may need to fusion some mons to make space.
You are right. Pretty annoying because you have to spend coins to get rid of Pokemon.
You can sell Pokemon for coins if you don't want to fusion them.

I got an EX Snorlax today in my 6 packs and not much else. I've rejigged my deck up slightly because of my decent plates.

One of the missions required Mudkip and I forgot to take him out after and he's bossed a few matches for me thanks to Manaphy powering him up. I fucking love Manaphy. I just stick him at the back and let him make Greninja, Lapras and now Mudkip (until I boot him) stronger. I wish I had a water type I could evolve.
Shuppet is the most used? Strange, I have him, but have not used him. He's awful except for his walk through people ability.
He's one of only two that has 3mp (Gastly being the other).

Needless to say, I got fisted.

That doesn't sound bad. I have Lapras and he's alright but nothing special (he's better with Manaphy). Poliwag is presumably shit other than moving a lot (don't have him though so not sure) and Venusaur can only move 1 so he's easy to avoid. Is one Darkrai that much of a problem?
The problem was the sleep spam. They had re-roll cards too in order to have two chances to put my figures to sleep and then jump over them and quickly bear down on goal.

Just beat 2 guys back to back ridiculously easily. First I beat in 3 turns after his Delphox failed to kill Shuppet. The second took slightly longer as he blocked his goal with a Blastoise but stupidly he didn't engage Shuppet afterwards so I was able to get Shuppet and Greninja on his entry points with him having only Blastoise and skarmory on the field. Skarmory attacked Greninja (idiot) and died and then with a little help from Genosect we surrounded Blastoise for the wait win.
I did my special mission and it just vanished and gave me nothing. It was play 5 league matches and when I checked I had 5 minutes left to do it and 1 more match required.... I straight away did it, and nothing. Fuck sake.
It also says Special Missions are active for 24 hours.... I had about 10-15 minutes for mine.
My latest 6 pack thing was garbage as all I got was a Snorlax EX.
However my Locked Booster gave me Latios EX and a Froakie which is interesting as I have been considering getting one for my deck to make Greninja even more powerful. Froakie with Manaphy should still be reliable, as even Mudkip was kicking ass for me when Manaphy was on the field. However, given Greninja moves 3, I'll probably stick with him.
Need to decide if it's Pikachu or Lapras who makes way for Latios.

Just played against a guy who had a better deck than me in terms of fighting but he made two huge mistakes which meant I won the long match rather than him.
I had his two entry points locked down for most of the fight by Shuppet (hero) on one side and Greninja/Ho-oh/Gardevoir on the other. His mistake was that almost all of his attacks went on the side where my heavy hitters were and he beat them most of the time. The match swung in his favour slightly when he actually decided to finally attack Shuppet.
The second fuck up on his part was that he had a shuppet but didn't know how to use it. He waited until mid-match to unleash it and then just kept putting him in bad positions on a congested board. He place Shuppet on the board 4 or 5 times, each time he died straight away as I always had someone 1/2 spots away from it with a big hitter.

Seems quite good. Also ranks Pokemon by MP, trapping, spawn blocking and for wait wins. Total resources needed to level up Pokemon based on rarity and what skill you should level up during training.

Also, I don't 'get' evolving. I realised that I had a Kirlia so put that in my deck to evolve it into my Gardevoir. Someone attacked me, got knocked out, I evolved it but then it reverted back to Kirlia.
Was that meant to happen? How do I get the evolution to stick? Can it?

I've never seen that. When I evolve pikachu into Raichu he stays as Raichu until the end. I've also never seen an opponent swap back.

Just had one of my better matches. Shuppet and Greninja did their usual and blocked off both entry points but he KOed Shuppet eventually and then crammed a load of Pokemon into that corner. I had slowly worked my whole team forward and moved Articuno into position where next turn I could move next to the goal and the turn after that, if he didn't kill me, I could surround him and get the win. Seeing what I had planned he attacked me Articuno Vs Articuno but he landed Roost which meant his Articuno couldn't move on his next turn. Sensing an opening I moved Greninja off the corner to attack Mew on the goal line and Mew hit Vanish, leaving the field. :D The only Pokemon he had who was in position to block was Articuno who he couldn't move.... so he was done. Enjoyed it.
Finally managed to win 3 in a row (my mission) and as a result got a league promotion with my new rank of 2110.
Mew is utterly useless.
Blue sections are the best in attacking but Mew's blue is fucking shit.

I had another match earlier where Lapras put 3 of his Pokemon, all near his own goal line, to sleep and he was powerless to do anything. I fucking love Lapras at times due to Manaphy powering him up meaning his attacks are 40, 80 or sleep. So useful in the right scenarios.
I don't think I'll ever drop Shuppet, Greninja, Manaphy or Lapras, unless some new ones come out that are better. Pikachu and Articunos places are still up for grabs, especially if I can't work out the marker thing.
Someone just used a Charge Marker against me, so it can be done. Still no fucking clue how though.
8 consecutive wins in the event and then lost to some prick who got all the luck in the world. I had him banged to rights and his Zapdos got 4 ridiculously lucky kills in a row.
Spent 10 gems to keep my streak. Hope I don't have to do that again to get to the magic 11.

I was excited about Keldeo, but I'm not sure he's that great. Considering using him to see how it works out.
I'm finding the event relatively easy as Articuno gets both boosts and Lapras gets the +20 and then another +20 for Manaphy. Lapras is a real don in it.
Keldeo in for Pikachu is a possibility.

Had two great endings just now.
First was a long tactical battle but after I picked off his shit (pikachu, leafeon) I moved greninja next to his goal line zapdos as he couldn't surround me. He chose mewtwo to attack greninja and landed the shove thing but I landed yellow so I KOed him and magmortar in one go. Easy after that.
The second was another good fight and in the end he moved an Emolga up to challenge my goal line manaphy. I've only just realised he would have won if he hit volt switch Vs bubble or miss. Instead I landed manaphy song and moved his blastoise off the goal line but I couldn't get there so I moved Lapras next to his kirlia who was next to the goal. He put blastoise back on the goal but on his next turn another manaphy song let me move him again and then hurdle jump kirlia for the win.

The gym gets too hard at the higher levels because so many cunts have 3 legendary birds plus the likes of Ho-Oh and Lugia. I've spent all my gems (granted I only had about 50 left) and only got to 8.... no idea what to do if I lose again, wait for my daily log in gems or just cash out. The rest of the week I doubt I'll be able to achieve much.
I still need a fucking Taillow.
Edit- Up to 9 and 30 gems... so 5 shots at getting 2 wins. Hopefully...

Guy had Yveltal out and the maximum damage he can do is 100. Something in my head told me I should attack him with Keldeo using X-Defense to ensure he couldn't kill me even if he landed the 100. In hindsight it was dumb as fuck because I couldn't kill him so the "only" way that I knew of that that fight could have any effect is if he hit one of his purple moves. I hit Hydro Kick which does 40 Vs his 100.... but he died due to the secondary effect of Hydro Kick. I knew about that, obviously, but it's only ever come into effect before when Keldeo has died. I imagine it also comes into effect if they spin purple (or maybe even Blue? I'm not sure) but I had no idea if I protected myself from dying it would also work :D That'll be worked into my strategy going forward.

For some reason 7-8 is such a pain in the arse. I just lost 4 in a row after winning 7 on the bounce but then I got drawn against the jobber deck (2 Beedrill, 2 Pinsir, 2 Hercross.... why does that happen) and got the inevitable 3 turn win and then got to 10 easily. Still 10 gems left (used some again for energy... which I'm now out of) so if I can get 1 win in 2 attempts I'll get to 11 for the 3rd time.
I better get better rewards than last time.
I lost both games (the 2nd of which was utter, utter bullshit) so cut my losses and opened on 10. Got an Aggron EX.
Some early exits this morning (with no gems left) have seen me collect 3 Magikarp. Utterly useless unless I can find Gyarados...

My dreams of Gyarados are probably done as I can't string anything together whatsoever and I can't seem to get any gems.
Guy I just beat must be fuming. I kept making really dumb mistakes and he got about 3-4 surround deaths on me without me killing anyone. He got 1 too many kills and it released Articuno who then ran straight for his goal. I attacked his Salamence on the goal line and he got Fly Over which left the goal open for Articuno but it was his turn. He attacked me back and died. :D
And next opponent took me on Greninja Vs Greninja early doors and he had an X-Attack but span a miss so I killed him with 1 Shuriken.... then after I blocked off both his entry points he attacked Greninja 3 times with Natu and span Future Sight all 3 times and I dodged them all. In one way it was lucky for him as 1 Shuriken would have seen him off but it also let me move up Lapras to surround him.
I managed to get to 7 without any Gems so now I'm protecting it but losing a lot. Up to 9 with 4 lives left having just energised. Hope I can make it but too many people have multiple birds.
2 lives remaining (think it was actually 3 when I last posted) and I come up against a cunt with 4 birds, a Lugia and a Gyarados. Fuck off.
Got to 11 the fight after that and was rewarded with another load of shite.

I've just added a 2nd Hurdle Jump to my deck and it's paying dividends. The amount of times I hurdle jump someone and their only move is to Hurdle jump back... being able to do it twice really fucks some people up.

Facing some guy in a good close fight. He had 2 KOs to my 1 but crucially he had locked down both my entry points early meaning he had a 3 (Wobbuffet on his goal, Gyarados and Ho-Oh on my corners) on 2 (Lapras on my goal, Keldeo roaming) advantage. It was only 3 on 2 as opposed to 4 on 2 because earlier Lapras had heroically taken Latios out of the game, never to return. He couldn't bring Wobuffet up as Keldeo would get to the goal before he got to surround Lapras that way so he went for it with Gyarados and Lapras put him to sleep. This let me bring Shuppet back in but Ho-Oh went for Lapras.... and fell asleep. Now my strategy was obvious.... take on Wobuffet with Shuppet in a can't lose match up. I did but I hit the burn (damn it!) and he Pokemon switched Wobuffet for Ho-Oh and set about trying to go wake up Gyarados. It was easy to move Lapras into his path and then I had all day to bring out my last mon and get the surround on Ho-Oh. :cool:

First 5 games have yielded 5 wins so the first 10 gems go on energy. Don't mind that at all.
There is no better finish to a match than someone attacking Manaphy thinking it's an easy kill and Manaphy hitting Manaphy's Song allowing you to move their Blastoise off their goal and leave it wide open. :drool:
I also had one where Manaphy did that twice to a Gyarados who if he could kill Manaphy would win the game. Twice Manaphy made him fuck off and it gave me the time I needed to get into the goal. :drool:

I got Blastoise this morning, who has taken the place of Lapras in my deck. It's a sad moment as Lapras has the most games played of any figure with 561 and has been the leader since Pikachu lost his place on 373. Greninja (532) and Manaphy (511) are now the favorites to be the first to 1000.
Blastoise seems to be the missing piece for me though. He has the same MP as Lapras and while his Purple move isn't that great (it kills opponents who also spin Purple, but as it only has 2 stars it only comes into play if they have 1....) his move does 100 which with Manaphy's boost becomes 120 making him a perfect counter for Legendary Birds, Yvetal etc.
Deoxys is only a little bit fucking broken. Wait til you come across a whole team of them and you can do fuck all.
Btw, Mew is really useable now.
He's really hard to kill.
Jesus, the quest I'm on has a difficult mission. Use Gold Attacks 5 times is usually fine... but when most of your Gold attacks do like 40 damage and all of theirs kill you... it's tough.

So Reuniclus (sp?) is a bit broken too.
Not only do you get a respin for every other Reuniclus in your deck, but his moves do 120 and 50 which doubles if another Reuniclus is within 2 spaces of him. I just faced a guy with 2 of them. He moved 1 to his goal letting me take 1 corner and then he moved another near it letting me take the other corner. I thought that was going to be that but he attacked me, spun a miss, respun it and landed 50 (I would kill him) which double and he got the KO. He also had a ton of other strong Pokemon like Moltres and Gyarados. Fortunately he took too long over his turns and I soon changed my strategy to stalling him out. With the game quickly turning against him he bought Reuniclus off the back line where Blastoise killed him but by that point he only had about 15 seconds left to my roughly 2 minutes so there was no need to even go for the exposed goal so I just let him run out of time. Turns out I'd have won anyway... but for the longest time there was no way through those 2 bastards.

People who put Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir in purely to counter Shuppet (rather than having any actual strategy with them) are so fucking easy to beat. :D
The last guy I faced had Ralts who I put up against my Shuppet so I just went up next to him and after he failed to kill me, Hurdle jumped him.... and then he failed again. What the fuck is "Imprison" about anyway?

Yea I beat a dude with 2 Reuniclus by forcing one to move away from the other and then killing it, didn't need to kill the 2nd to win. So rare though. The people with 4-5 Deoxys are the worst.

My normal team seems to be doing well as we went 5-0 today when trying to do Daily Missions/Locked Booster. Close to the final tier now.... but I was once 2 points away and then fell to more than 200 away.
Just had one of these and it was absolutely beautiful. He had a Deoxys and a Lucario (on the goal) and I had shuppet in one corner and Mew moving up. He put Deoxys on his other corner so I put Mew next to Lucario. His best bet was attack me with Lucario but he attacked with Deoxys who could only do 130 (or was it 150?) or some purple shit. Essentially I won as long as I didn't spin Psychic. I hit gold and he didn't respin his 150, not that it mattered, but I bet he was seething.Quote:

I just had a great ending to a match. I needed 1 move to surround his goal line Machamp (assuming he didn't attack and kill Mew, which he quite possibly could have) and so he went for it and attacked my goal line Blastoise with Zapdos. The ONLY combination that would let him kill me is his Yellow move and my Purple so of course that came out. My only available move once Blastoise was dead was Hurdle Jumping Manaphy to my own goal. He attacks Manaphy... and fucking Roosted :D Good work, Manaphy.
My streaks seem to all end between 1-5 but normally more in the 2-3 region. Got fuck all so far.
Got my Pokemon Go Pokedex to 181 caught, 199 seen. Only things left to get from Kanto are: Charizard, Farfetch'd, Kangaskhan, Tauros and the legendaries. Evolved a solid Seadra I had into what is now a 2147 Kingdra with Dragon Pulse and Outrage. :drool:

Just started a gym match against someone with 3 Reuin.
I ran out with my runner Deoxys and he took 1 Reuin to take him out. I instantly thought I had won as I believed that the re-spins only apply when they're on the board. I was wrong and after rolling purple against my gold twice he finally got an attack segment to beat him. ARGHHHHHH, I hate them so much (unless I happen to get 3 ofc), so damn broken.

It's basically a simplified version of chess where you have to get to your opponents goal to win. It's not very complicated once you play a few times but learning what each Pokemon can do guess adds some complications.
I won something like 6-7 leagues games in a row and I'm FINALLY in the Pink (final) tier. Had some absolutely cracking games on route too so it was so satisfying to win them. Current ranking of 2364 is my highest ever.
Event continues to be a shower of shit though. Nothing but shitty commons and a ranking of 1728....
I'm on 1873 in the Gym, EX's of Normal Deoxys (trash) and Runner Deoxys (okay) and sitting on 88 wins.

As much as I regret spending those 200 gems to get a fucking Steelix, I guess that's the same as most of the 200 gem Boosters. I have about 300 now but have no idea what to do with them. Still, at least I have options, it's better than 500,000 coins.

Vs a team of 3 Reuniclus, Lucario, Ho-Oh and something else (Shuppet maybe?) I thought I was done. One Reunicluse fell (I forget how) but the other 2 were staying together at the goal line and looked impossible to pass. In the end I Hurdle Jumped Blastoise to land in between them and he couldn't move the one step to surround me without letting Mew in. He probably should have attacked Blastoise as the cunt would have missed no doubt, but instead he attacked Manaphy on the goal line who span Manaphy's Song letting me move Blastoise the one step to get next to his goal Reuniclus and surround him on my next turn. :drool: Without that I'm 100% sure he'd have just twatted Blastoise away.

Ve 3 x Reuniclus and 3 x Deoxys (1 was a runner, not sure about the other 2) I go with Shuppet and he moves Reuniclus to the goal while I take his corner. I then bring out Lucario and after he blocks me with Reuniclus number 2 I hurdle jump him. He uses a card and attacks Reuniclus and his first spin is a miss Vs my 71 damage attack.... his 2nd is 70 and his 3rd is Confuse Ray which keeps him in the game... however the card he used was re-spin if you spin purple so he got a 4th spin and missed. :D Game over right there.
Just had a rather unique game. I always, always leave Manaphy at the back quietly powering people up and moving people around if I need him to. Due to lack of options though I ended up with Manaphy moving forward. He ended up on the opponents corner where he survive a Gyarados attack (span Manaphy song and made him fuck off) and a couple from Moltres (who kept spinning Flame Charge). In the end his Gyarados went for Articuno (on my goal) but after 2 Roosts I got the surround KO on Gyarados and when Moltres failed again against Manaphy he was surrounded too. Zapdos met the same fate and he was left with just one Zapdos on the field. He attacked Keldeo (the other corner), missed, and died. Manaphy is not suited to being thrown forward, but he was the hero of the hour yet again.

Got his points almost straight away with a rush by my Deoxys (he used cosmic energy) and then knocking out his Shuppet before hurdling a Deoxys of his.
He then kept moving backwards and forwards with his 2 Deoxys across the line so I kept moving my guys up. He'd occasionally hit 'Mons I put next to him but it was mostly me hitting him and then him choosing which Deoxys to defend with. Gyarados then slapped him twice with Hyper Beam and it was done.
No idea why he didn't hit my runner before I got other 'Mons involved, he'd have walked him.
Spent 40 to get an 11 streak box.
Umbreon, Weezing, Slakoth and Zweilous.

I think I'm done with this event at about 82 wins or so. I got one Lucario EX (fed straight into my other) but nothing else of note and getting some shitty Ingots isn't worth it.
I do have 400 or so Gems which if I spend in 2 booster things will put me close to affording 2 x Reuniclus so that's a consideration.
I also got 5 Booster Singles for my monthly ranking and that turned into a Wigglytuff and a bunch of shite. Shame you can't use them for the Quadruple.

A 24 hour booster gave me the Pokemon I wanted most in the game, Empoleon.
Going to put Prinplup in as it's essentially the same Pokemon only without a gold move. Just have to decide if I drop Articuno or Keldeo but I didn't overly miss either of them in the event. Probably Articuno.
Opened 4 Quad boxes to get me a second Reuin and got 2 Reshiram's and 1 Zekrom. They don't look too bad but wait 9 is pretty fucking horrible.
Basically to use them you need to play defensively for 9 turns to then get them out so they can remove Pokemon.
I think I'll stick with a team of 2 Reuin, Mew, Gyarados, Shuppet and Greninja.
I've got every single star it is possible to get in Quest mode. You get nothing for it.
Doesn't feel like there's much more to do really. I may build a 2nd deck as it's so hard for a non water type to get into my water deck.
1-4 in league matches today.... (2-4 if you count the jobber deck) what a load of shite. The amount of times I need to survive one move to win and they hit the only combination that can kill me is ridiculous.
So gave this a go and I have no fucking clue what I'm doing :D
I did buy a few gems to get a 4 pack booster and pulled EX Garchomp so I've won a few games with him but I still have no clue what to do here.
You can earn a ton of free gems through log in bonus, daily missions and the story mode but for a while you will just need to save up gems to buy boosters while also focusing on time boosters and locked boosters to get more EX Pokemon and build a stronger team.
My team finally clicked today and despite facing some really tough opponents we went 4-0. Not sure what is out there that could break in but my team for the foreseeable future will be:

Keldeo EX
Blastoise EX
Shuppet UC
Prinplup C evolving into Empoleon EX
So having just said nothing was going to come into that team in the near future... I pull a Palkia EX. He has to come in. Just a case of who to drop....
As much as Greninja is the "weakest" I don't want to drop a runner for a 2 MP mon at this stage. I like the balance we have there.
That leaves really only Blastoise or Empoleon. I like both and Palkia's ability is a little bit annoying but not a deal breaker. Decisions, decisions.
I've had such rotten luck on this game recently, the amount of matches I have where I only have to survive one turn to win and my opponent ALWAYS gets the perfect roll they need and I end up losing in the end. I reckon a lot of people use the AI, and the AI gets more "luck" than human players because whenever I use AI ridiculous stuff happens and I win.
Opened a Magmortar today.... may have to consider building a 2nd deck to use him.
Got almost 900 gems without spending a penny because there's been fuck all to use them on.
Got a third Reuin in a locked booster a few days ago so I'm running with:

It's pretty fucking beastly.
I don't see much worth in Greninja in a non-Manaphy deck. Most of the time he does 20-40 damage and that just isn't going to cut it. He works for me because his minimum damage is 41 and it increases from there.
I like him, he's done so much for me it just feels wrong to drop him.
I just got a frogadier so my Greninja will now do 31 (1 cl) for each gold attack.
Despite playing almost 1000 duels I just made a move that I don't think I'd ever thought about before, and it paid off.
I had Greninja and Keldeo locking down his corners and Manaphy somewhere on the field (he's irrelevant). He had Blastoise on his goal and Charizard and Yvetal next to Greninja and Keldeo. He attacked Greninha with Charizard and span 200 but I span dodge. I then figured that Charizard Vs Greninja was his best move, even if he could get something off the bench.... and that he was going to initiate that fight regardless of my move, so I may as well be in a position where I win if he fails. I moved up next to Blastoise, giving up the corner, and when Charizard missed I'd won the game. It doesn't sound that anything abnormal but I'm normally VERY reluctant to give up corners once I have them but the realisation that Greninja was probably dead anyway so I may as well go for it worked out perfectly.
Upping the energy needed to 30 is a cunt move.
Both my Gym matches so far have been epics. In the first I seemed to be banged to right as he had a Latios on his goal (I had a shuppet on one corner but that wouldn't help...) and he had both my corners locked down by Zekrom and Flygon with only Keldeo and Rauquaza defending for me. I moved Raqquaza out of the way which meant he could try surround Keldeo if he wanted but he didn't try it and let Rayquaza hit Flygon.... he got fly and left my corner. I was then able to get other Pokemon onto the field and he made some awful decisions such as fighting me Palkia Vs Palkia (Manaphy broke the tie for me) and Shuppet Vs Shuppet (11 vs 10 again to me). I was eventually able to lock down both corners for the win.
My second match my main threat was the time. My opponent had bad connection issues which seemed to effect my clock and not his.... and I was soon down to 20 seconds Vs his almost 3 minutes which was a farce. Fortunately I had both corners locked down (albeit one by Manaphy who can only move 1) and he only had 2 defenders and a Zekrom on one corner. His Zekrom went for it but Manaphy tipped the scales to Palkia to save us from defeat. Manaphy concluded his MVP performance with a well time Hurdle Jump that caused a double surround (RIP MVP) and then when he moved to block the goal it was easy for me to take his other corner and force him to forfeit as the corners were now locked down by Keldeo and Greninja so he couldn't move. :cool:
My deck to start with in the event is:
Greninja, Manaphy, Shuppet, Keldeo, Rayquaza, Palkia
However, I'm considering putting in Salamence over Greninja. He'll do 70 damage as a standard instead of 21 (41 with Manaphy on field) and an extra 21 for each spin, plus a small chance of 60 (boosted to 80). Just seems 70 is more reliable and will be better most of the time, and the Fly can win games straight off. I'd be tempted to put in Double Chance as well to get Fly when I need it, but wouldn't be sure what to drop (1 hurdle jump or a Goal block). For now I'll go with "If it's not broke...." and keep it as it is as I'm 4-0.
Edit again- Just had the best duel of my life to the point where I would have reached out to the guy if I could. It was a league match so I put my water team back in and came up against a team of 2 x Poliwhirl, 2 x Magikarp/Gyarados, Manaphy and Greninja. It was an absolute war. In the end, through necessity, I had Manaphy next to his goal (on the side where you can't instantly surround him) and he had Manaphy on his goal. I was trying to use Manaphy to move his but he cottoned onto it and put a Gyarados the other side. With nothing I could realistically do to Gyarados (unless his Manaphy died) I just kept hammering Manaphy and kept moving Gyarados away but he kept moving it back. If I had my usual 2 Hurdle Jumps I could have picked up an easy win but without it I couldn't get in. He got a stroke of luck with a crucial kill on Shuppet who would have won it the next turn for me and I lucked out BIG time when he span Manaphy song and didn't notice he could have moved Empoleon off my goal and walked in. In the end he stupidly decided to attack Manaphy with Gyarados while his other Gyarados was out of position and when I span Manaphy Song I moved Manaphy and walked in. Actually drained after it.

I'm having really bad luck.
I'm either coming up against round decks or getting super shit rolls. I'm struggling to maintain a win streak.
I seem to keep getting to about 4 and then losing. My deck feels good but not great.
People who use Runner Deoxys with no other Deoxys are my favourite opponents. So easy.
This guy made me defend by using his runner and then switched it with a Moltres. Moltres with Double Chances was eating me alive and KO'ing every turn but I was able to get enough defenders in place and then when he ran out of cards to power it up and started hitting Roost/Flame Charge I was able to make a break for it and murder his shitty Deoxys for the win.
Closing in on that Dragonite EX.

I've also got mine at clvl 1 so his gold does 121. He's beaten a fair few Reuins because of it.

I have literally no idea what just happened in my match. With a few figures on the board each I was forced to use a Goal Block because he put a Flygon in an awkward position. I goal block with Rayquaza and the idiot double chances and attacks him. I spin Gold so Flygon is dead no matter what. He spins purple and then respins into a 40. The minute the move lands it comes up WIN on my screen. No "forfeit" just the word WIN. I'll take it, but what?
My main deck was unstoppable for 2 days and went back up to the 2500s but went 0-5 today (not including 2 jobber wins) to crash back the low 2300s. Pretty much every spin was a miss. Utter shite.
Having more luck in the event where I'm up to 60 wins. I want those 2 EX cubes.

One guy I faced I went first and put Keldeo 2 spots in. He then brings out Deoxys 4 spots forcing me to block his route to the goal with Salamence. His obvious move is to advance with someone else or block a corner. Instead he uses X Attack (boosting his attacks to 50 and 70) and attacks Salamence who does 72 most of the time. What a moron. Deoxys goes down and Keldeo takes the corner for the win.
Another guy I faced I was in a situation where Salamence could hurdle jump his Squirtle to land one away from the goal but he could hurdle jump me back and land on the goal. Instead I played defense until he used his 2 hurdle jump and then did it. His only hope was to hit Salamence with Squirtle and pray for a miss Vs his attack or a Fly Away Vs not his blue move. Even if the latter happened I had a 2nd Hurdle jump but he could live to fight another round. What does he do? Uses X-Attack (why?) and moves to the other side of me before attacking. In the end it didn't matter as he hit Blue anyway, but had he got the Fly Away from there I could have just walked back to where I was and made him do it again. Such a bad move.

A 2 win booster (I open after 2 every time now) yielded a Manaphy. The temptation to run Manaphy x 2, Tentacool x 3 and a runner is very high.
I also have 4000 material, but there's nothing I want. I'll save them for whoever owns the next event, or whatever they add next that's good.
I'm now totally convinced that the spinners are not random at all. I faced a guy with 3 Shuppets and my Greninja went up against them and span Dodge SEVEN TIMES in a row. Fucking seven times. If I've done the maths right the chances of that are 0.017% or something ridiculous like that. I did eventually get the yellow attack I needed at the eighth time of asking and went on to win, but there's no way in hell that wasn't rigged. Funnily enough the Shuppet KO I did get left me in a position where he had to kill Greninja to stay in the game... and you can guess what happened there. :D
It seems to me like every match I either get all the luck or fuck all luck whatsoever. There doesn't seem to be any medium. It's to a point where if I get one bad spin, I'm reluctant to do any more fights.
Nevertheless, I got to 100 wins and got a 2nd EX cube. Event done.
Edit- This guy I just beat :D He starts with Blastoise, I start with Salamence. He attacks Salamence with Reuniclus and dies, I move to his corner so he has to goal block with Blastoise. I move Keldeo into position where if he doesn't kill me, I can jump to his corner. He decides to bring out possibly the worst Pokemon in the entire game he could bring out in that scenario.... Wobbuffet. :D Idiot.

Fight I just had took the absolute piss for my opponent:
First fight: Shuppet Vs Xerneas, Shuppet inflicts the burn (barely effects him as his dodge is tiny)
2nd fight- Shuppet Vs Xerneas- Shuppet KOs him.
3rd fight- Salamence Vs Latios, I get the fly over putting me in position to win if he can't stop me.
4th fight- Salamence Vs Latios- Fly Over Vs Dodge would win me the game, however he used double chance and at the 2nd time of asking lands Psychic, making me fly back over him.
5th fight- Salamence Vs Latios- He would have died but he used an X-Attack which tipped it to him.
6th fight- Palkia Vs Latios- Latios dies.
7th fight- Shuppet Vs Greninja- Greninja spins a miss and dies.
8th fight- Palkia Vs Zapdos- Zapdos dies giving me the win.
So in 8 fights the only 2 that went his way were the two he used cards on, and both of those went my way originally. I'm not complaining because I'm a 'victim' of this, it definitely goes both ways, but it really, REALLY feels like it picks a winner at the start and they get almost every spin go their way. I feel bad for that guy, I really do, particularly for the 2 KOs Shuppet got.

Just played a league match with someone who has an attacker Deoxys and he was dicking me.
He made a break for my goal (it was just him and one of my Reuin's on the field) but I was closer to his so kept going. He obviously pulled back, attacked and he rolled dimensional slip to give me the win.
So satisfying.

I got relegated yesterday for the first time ever. :( A 6-2 record since then has put me back in Master League, but that was bollocks.
More had just been knocked out/best move was to keep using rather than adding more onto the field.
The guy I just faced was obviously a noob but it was funny. I stupidly hurdle jumped to his corner which gave him a clear run to my corner which would have forced a Goal block. Instead he used Pokemon switch (putting Yveltal on his goal) essentially wasting the turn. I blocked his route off and he only had Yvetal on his goal who he couldn't move and Dratini roaming around. Eventually he decides to attack Keldeo who spins 52 Vs 80.... then my 52 went up to 62 and then 82 to kill him and end the game. He must have been fuming. That Pokemon switch literally cost him the game as without it would have been 72.
Magmortar, Yveltal, Delphox, Latios, Infernape, Aggron, Lucario and Mewtwo.
That's my haul of EX's from this cup. Not too shabby.

Yeah, they've been pretty shit lately.
So yesterday I won 2 matches and then lost 3 on the bounce, having to beat Bug Bot to get my booster.
Today I started off with 2 crushing defeats, making it 5 on the bounce. I was almost relegated again. I then chucked together a deck and won 3 in a row. Not sure how much I like all of it, but it was randomly chucked together. Went for:

Ho-Oh
Obviously with the new dark plate.
It isn't perfect, Umbreon feels a bit pointless but I do like having an extra runner, plus he lets me have 2 dark types before I get T'tar. It needs improving for sure, but it'll do for now.

Up to around 2450 which is still about 100 off my all time best but it's the highest it's been in a long time. Granted I haven't faced any Reuniclus decks today but I faced someone with Attack/Speed/Defense form Deoxys and ruined them.
Oh an in other news I made some slight progress on my Pokemon Moon Nuzlocke after a 3 month hiatus. Got some grinding to do for the Elite 4 though.
4-0 again today and I'm 6 points off my all time best. Fucking hell. Considering I just chucked that together it works remarkably well.
Reached my highest ever rank (2623) and got a Heatran. :cool:
Edit- Another 4-0 day sees me hit the dizzying heights of 2705. Amazing that we were on the verge of relegation 5-6 days ago when I made this deck and since then we've improved by about 500 points.

Flygon on paper seems to be the best way to counter Moltres right now as he wont be able to use his soar when Flygon is on the field.

I put Vibrava in and he fucks people up completely. I moved him 2 steps at the start (inside lane) and he put someone in the same position in front of me. A couple of turns later he hurdle jumped on the other side to my corner but moving Vibrava along one space stopped him being able to get to the goal and stopped the dude who was in front of Vibrava from being able to reach the other corner. He was on completely the back foot from there and it turned the game quickly to an easy win.

Came up against a cunt running Reuniclus x 3, Flygon, Magmortar and Deoxys Attack. Every single fucking time I went up against Reuniclus it would be "I kill him... respin... I kill him... respin.... Confuse Ray/He kills me" without fail. In the end he had a Reuniclus and a Flygon on my corners with only my Vibrava back defending and I had Ho-Oh on one of his corners but he had 2 Reuniclus and Deoxys defending. Seeing the inevitable loss I moved Heatran up the field, hit his goal line Reuniclus and nailed Magma Slide. I was convinced that 3rd respin would be Confuse Ray again but nope.... he didn't get it for once and I pushed him off the goal inflicting a burn and wait. If he had a hurlde jump left he could have hurdled his own Reuniclus and blocked the goal but he didn't. He did have a Max revive but the revived Magmortar failed to take out Heatran so we won. Absolutely amazing.

So I guess at 5 hits it makes a difference, but fewer than that I doubt that matters. I doubt we'll run into many moves between 84 and 88, for example.
Not sure. I'm considering giving them to Infernape for his Drive Kick as everyone seems to be using him in this gym, but that's very short term thinking. I'm also not sure what they'd be worth to Mew but I am coming across a fair few chained Mew.

I had a guy use Moltres soar right past him to take my corner and I just casually moved onto his goal.
I just trolled the fuck out of a 3 Moltres deck. Vibrava really is a don even if you don't get Flygon.
He started with the obvious Moltres up 2 on the inside. I put Vibrava in his way. He moved a Moltres up 3 on the opposite side. I moved Vibrava across one to the middle meaning neither Moltres could take a corner. This clearly rattled him and it allowed me to set up at the back. After a long tactical slog I moved up the field with Heatran and was able to pretty much constantly hit purple. He saved himself once with a Goal Block and once with a Hurdle jump but the 3rd time he had no answer and Heatran got in. I may have to keep him in my real deck, even with 2MP he is a beast.
The 1-2 win boosters have been good to me giving me Mewtwo, Delphox, Charizard and Zapdos so far. The middle 2 were duplicates so used for chaining. I also got a Latios (another duplicate) in a locked booster.
Up to 86 wins so should be there soon.

He starts with Delphox and I go aggressive, hitting it with Ho-Oh and get the Rainbow Wing to land on his corner. He moves back to his goal spot letting me bring out Heatran down the opposite side. He brings out a Zapdos who I hurdle over. He's now restricted to just Zapdos as he can't move Delphox without losing. Rather than try clear a corner he rushes to my goal and Zapdos KOs my defenders, Magmortar and Infernape. He's 2 spots away from my goal and I have no way of blocking it. All I can do is move Vibrava inside my corner to stop him reaching the goal. He moves inside Vibrava so all he needs is a neutral turn to win. However he spins Roost. I briefly think that wins me the game before remembering he can just use a Plate rather than move Delphox.... which he does, burning an X Attack. We attack again and another Roost forces him to Hurdle Jump to the other side of Vibrava. That's the break through we need as Vibrava moves to our goal spot and when he can't attack it the next turn Charizard comes out to defend. Vibrava is taken out and then Charizard spins 200 into a Thunder Charge. He paralyses Charizard but that doesn't stop him spinning 250 Vs Steel Wing to win us the game. Vibrava though. :drool:
Something about my league deck just works and I've hit my all time high ranking of 2764. I just took down a guy ranked over 3000 with his Deoxys deck.

I still haven't cashed in on Virizion but I have 6200 material or something so I'm tempted. Then I'd buy the new plate and make a deck with him, Zapdos and Articuno, all of which would be able to soar over opponents and all of which would prevent Reuniclus from respinning. Virizion would also have a big advantage over them with that Grass Knot move. I'd then have to decide if I want to keep Umbreon/Greninja to counter Deoxys or not. I don't overly want to boot out Ho-Oh or Mew.... so it'll be a tough decision.
Built my new deck around him and in it's first outing we went up against 3 x Reuniclus, 2 x Mew and 1 x Deoxys Attack. Murdered him. Wasn't even a contest. Virizion :drool:
As much as I like Sceptile, I do wish I had paid for Virizion.
Yea, I felt he was the best choice. Sceptile has that shot at doing 140 but otherwise.... nah.
Not sure what deck I'll use going forward as my other one was doing so well but also running into a lot of Reuniclus now I've reached this high (2819). Currently running with:

Mew (Level 5)

Virizion (Level 3)
I do have 2 EX cubes so need to work out the best place to use those. Maybe on Zapdos's gold attack.
Obviously I bought the Grass Plate to go with it which means Reuniclus/Deoxys can only respin on my Greninja and Mew while 3 out of my 6 mons have a built in Hurdle Jump.
Stealth hit is a blue fly though.

The next cup is obviously Grass/Poison so that'll be interesting.
Trevenant (sp?) could be a real bitch to deal with is you use Pokemon Switch to get him to the business end of the field.

Unfortunately Virizion wasn't overly involved in the wins other than one where he swapped spots with someone on the opponents goal, but I still love him. Zapdos was the MVP of the day though. Counter Attack is fucking deadly when 3 of your mons can soar over things.
I really like my deck but there is no counter to a Deoxys attacker unless I get incredibly lucky.
I need a Virizion.
I keep forgetting to use the new grass plate but I only have Sceptile.
The new plate also works with birds and bugs so it's still useful for you. Everyone should have it to nullify Reuniclus/respins on deoxys attack and as a full heal if you don't face those.
I'm considering adding Umbreon (probably over mew) and running both dark energy and tropical energy.
Had such a rough time of it after this and dropped about 200 points. Mew coming back in for Umbreon. I still think he's the right play for Dark Energy, but it's not working for me.Quote:

Cacnea is a beast at level 5. He has no miss with a 28 wheel size 1 star purple poison sting but with a size 68 pin missile which gives 10x (12 for me as I have clvl) for each roll. He could be massive.

I think people who get a team full of Deoxys just get lazy and make stupid plays. Two games in a row they've left me confused....
First one my Mew took out his goalie. Virizion is right there ready to surround a new goalie and he moves Deoxys Attack to the goal (his only possible move really) but doesn't attack Mew. Granted it's a bad match up but he HAD to go for it. Game over.
Second one guy got a couple of lucky spins and had full control of the game particularly after my Virizion went down. Realising my best hope was to try end it early I rushed with Mew again. I attack his goalie and he switches to normal form (probably his best bet) and the spin is 30 Vs 90..... luckily I used double chance and somehow it comes off as I respin into Shuttle Flip and retreat to the corner. He's now the firm favourite albeit my Mew/Ho-Oh can surround one of his attack forms next turn and he doesn't take one of them out. Instead he brings the Normal form guy off the goal and attacks Mew.... spinning purple into my gold to concede the game outright.
8-0, 64th in the world currently. Leafeon is a boss. No one suspects him.
I feel like they have nerfed the 1-2 win boosters, I've pulled nothing but commons.
Had a 20-1 record but then somehow lost 3 on the bounce (I thought it was only 2, but I then faced Bug Bot... so maybe it was 3). Picked up some wins since but that's annoying.
Phantump really is a cunt when they run more than 1 of him.
Guess me record currently is 22-4 (Assuming it was 3 losses) and that's enough for 107th in the world currently. Don't much care about that though, much more interested in getting boosters at the end of the month to get back to 4000 material in time for the next release.

This is my worst gym yet, I can't get any sort of run going.
It's probably my best one, but Virizion is helping that a lot. A lot of people seem unaware of what he can do. Hoping to catch some fools out with Trevenant now too.
I just got such a bullshit win, the guy must be fuming. He had THREE VIRIZIONS as well as a Chesnaught as runners. He starts with a Virizion on the inside lane which I meet with Zapdos. He then sends a second Virizion down my flank, blocking my corner in 2 turns during which I get Venusaur to the goal. Virizion 3 makes his way down the other side so I send in my Virizion next to Venusaur in case he spins that purple bollocks. Now he has both my corners locked down. Seeing he had no goal block I just said fuck it. Counter attack on Zapdos and soared past the original Virizion to 2 steps from the goal. He now had to kill me or it was game over. He double chances his own Zapdos and we spin Roost Vs Roost.... he respins.... into Roost. :D Any other move and he would surround me. Amazing.
Trevenant is so good in this gym it's a shame he will be useless after it. Came in clutch for me in a game that was lost due to my corners being taken so early I chucked him in with long throw and he was able to move people away from the corner and turn the game. Hero.
Also had a match that was a total comedy of errors by us both. We both started with virizion but he stupidly advanced too far and had to goal block. I then bought in leafeon as did he but I went to the corner planning to long throw zapdos in if he did the same. Too late I realised all he had to do was run up the middle and I would be reliant on mew to take him out in one go but instead he defended, poor move. He then moved his virizion to kill mind leaving the goal open for leafeon but I missed it and we battled on the other side for about 5 turns each before I saw it and just walked in. He had forever to cover it up but clearly missed it too.
Got a Manaphy from a 24 hour box \0/.

Manaphy is decent enough in an all water deck, but not much use beyond that. Mine had over 1000 games but I eventually out grew him.
Had a rough day today and I estimate I was something like 2-6 in the event and 3-3 in the league but I spent some gems to get some more event games and have rattled up a few wins to make me feel a bit better about it. I kept coming up against full Deoxys decks who refused to miss a spin. Deoxys still needs to be nerfed as there are no good dark types to make Dark Energy viable and Tropical Energy doesn't do enough to them.
Almost has a comical win just now. I moved Virizion out and he bought out Deoxys Speed (his only Deoxys... thank fuck). I had to block that off with Mew and he moved a Lilligant towards his own goal and blocked it when I took his corner with Virizion. I then bought out Trevenant just for the laugh and was REALLY hoping to spin Purple, Move Lilligant to his own entry point and leave him with absolutely nothing he could do. Unfortunately Trevenant killed Deoxys. Was still an easy win though.
My moment of the day came just before that though. Guy had runners on both my corners and Virizion was my only defender. Game over.... if I didn't have Long Throw. Choice of Mew or Zapdos was hard but I chucked in Mew who proceeded to KO his Chesnaught freeing up a corner. Zapdos came in to the game but I made a terrible mistake and he got surrounded. Opponent then had a choice.... move his Torterra next to his Trevenant (Goalie) to defend or take my corner again with his Venusaur, preventing me getting my own (better chained) Venusaur back. I actually cheered when he went for the latter meaning Trevenant/Torterra had one chance and one chance only to take out Mew or I would win by surround (I had managed to get Leafeon out at some stage and up to his other corner). Mew Vs Torterra span Blue Vs Blue and King Mew completed another unlikely comeback. Never stop being a don Mew.
Finished the gym with a record of 50-20... fairly sure about half those losses came yesterday. I was something stupid like 20-1 at one point but it got rougher towards the end.
May play some more for the free boosters, but glad it's over with for now. Should be getting the Gold Cup too as I'm in the top 250 currently, can't see my falling 1000 places even if I don't play the last 2 days.

I played with a team full of Deoxys yesterday in the gym.
Topical Energy and Sceptile slaughtered them.
Tropical Energy can slaughter them, but I'm finding they still hit 130 all the fucking time and of course I never hit any of the moves I have that can counter it.
The change fucks them as when they bring out the runner you can just twat him out of there.
Yeah, it looks brilliant.
Empoleon looks like he'll be useful now too.

You'd need another runner in there. Probably Mew. But otherwise it would be good. The only thing you have to keep in mind as a Water deck user is other Manaphy's can move you around at will.

Yea, I might consider running something very similar. I spent a long time with a water deck and it was effective for a long time until it became necessary to run Dark energy (and then tropical). I'm considering going back to it. The best moments are when someone has 1 random water type (normally Blastoise or Magikarp) and they use it to block the goal and you just move it away with Manaphy, or when you have a runner on each corner and they attack Manaphy letting you move both in for the surround in one go.
I keep getting "unexpected error" which has almost certainly cost me a match I was winning by pissing away all my time.

I've had him forever, but he's got a very limited usage. He got back into my team until I got Gyarados, then he was out again.
Really hoping for 20 boosters at the end of the month but am in serious danger of dropping back to 15.
Oh he's got no room in my team now but at least it's another option if we get an Ice and/or Flying type gym. Although that is probably a while off as we've already had one.
Tried out a pure water deck after my own deck went 3-3 in League games and just wasn't getting any luck. Went with:

Keldeo
Palkia
Empoleon
Gyarados (from Magikarp)
So basically the deck I used to run but with Gyarados in for Blastoise.
Absolutely battered the first guy I came up against. He was on top at the start and I was struggling a bit but once I got Palkia out (his ability is so annoying) I was able to KO his Latios and turned the game, but Empoleon proved the MVP killing his Delphox (picking up a burn but not giving a single fuck) then Mew and then Lugia on his way to the win.
I've seen a lot of people take someone out then use a Pokemon Switch to get Palkia out quicker.
No wait unlike with Zekrom/Reshiram.

You can bring him out using Manaphy too.
I swore never to drop Mew again and I guess I was being punished for going back on my word. Mew into the Water deck and it's 10 times better. Mew really is undroppable from all decks.
Holy shit I've just seen Kyogre. 130 base damage plus 20 from Manaphy plus 20 from Primal rage..... game over.
I just had someone attack Manaphy with a Moltres.
He rolled a white and Manaphy started singing which allowed me to move a Magikarp right next to his goal and then I was able to move Greninja (who was on an entry point) to surround his 'Mon on goal.

Yea, as I said, I've won many a match that way, and it's the best way to win them.
I just had one against a cunt with 5 Deoxys and a Zapdos. He got about 75% of the spins go his way but there was the odd Dimensional Slip that kept me in it. In the end I had Mew on the spot next to his goal and Empoleon on the corner read to surround Zapdos. He attacks Empoleon with Deoxys A and takes him out and then moves Deoxys A inside the corner. I take the corner again with Ninja but Deoxys A takes him out too. Then I had a genius idea. I took the corner with Palkia. Now because Palkia has no Gold Moves, I knew if he didn't over think it, he'd switch Deoxys A to Deoxys D, and it would go neutral. Sure enough that happened, and I just hurdle jumped him to surround Zapdos. Deoxys D couldn't reach the goal. Game over.
I got 15 free boosters this morning and my best pull was Crobat.
My friend got 8 and got Blastoise, Manaphy and Empoleon....
I got 7 and only got UCs.

I'm running my usual Water deck to begin with and in only my 2nd match I face someone with a Chain Level 3 Kyogre.... but he never got to use it as I beat him too fast by KOing Wartortle, Manaphy and Poliwhirl all on his goal with Ninja. Hero.

Forgot to change my team for the first match but it's full grass bar Zapdos (for the old gym) so that attack boost should be fine against 5 tentacools and a ninja.

Magikarp as a runner is so insane I might have to put in my other one.....
Guy was running all X Attacks and Overdrives as his plates. His only runner was Squirtle.
Turn 1- I move Greninja in 2 spots. He puts Squirtle in front of me but one step away so I can't hurdle.
Turn 2- I put Magikarp in 3 spots. He puts Grovyle in front of me but doesn't attack.
Turn 3- Hurdle jump over Grovle to the inside. Ball game.
Yeah Magikarp is great (with a Gyarados to evolve into), especially if people are foolish enough to leave it because he wont be KO'd in one attack.
Palkia is also a hero. My latest opponent set up with 2 Manaphy and evolved his Prinplup into Empoleon so he essentially had an Empoleon doing +50 and all his others doing +40.... and Palkia didn't give a shit.

When it comes off, Manaphy is the best Pokemon in this entire game. I've had so many beautiful wins with Manaphy's song but nothing quite tops one of them.
I had a Magikarp on one of his corners but nothing on the other. He had a Frogadier and a Grovyle on the back line preventing Karp going in. He brings his Palkia forward (down my left flank) and attacks my Empoleon. Empoleon dies but Palkia gets frozen. I take the opportunity to drop Manaphy onto the field down the left side, in front of the Palkia. He brings Grovle away from his goal to unfreeze Palkia. I can't even remember what I did the turn in between but the next turn he uses his Palkia to attack Manaphy. I spin Manaphy's song. I use it to push his own Manaphy backwards and left one space, essentially blocking in the Grovle and Palkia. I then move my Greninja up next to his goal. Thanks to Manaphy blocking the path, no one else can get back there other than his Frogadier, who can't KO Ninja and so ends up getting surrounded. It was beautiful. :drool:
I just had a dickhead Poliwhirl try my Manaphy.
Manaphy would have been knocked out but because of spinning pattern his attack shifted two pieces and he started singing. Moved Empoleon (who was on one entry point, he's a beast since the buff) next to his goal blocking Pokemon then on my turn moved Mew to surround him.
I feel a bit bad about my latest win. :D
The guy was using Manaphy but didn't seem very clued up on how to use him. His Manaphy constantly span Manaphy Song though and all my Mons refused to spin gold. He had a chance to move my Magikarp off my goal but he missed it, albeit I'm not sure if it won him the game or not (I can't recall if Sceptile was in range). Later on he did move my Karp away but on that occasion my Mew was in position to take over from Karp. He then bought Sceptile up next to Mew and was going to win by surround unless I could KO his Sceptile (with Mew.... no chance) or his Blastoise. I went for Blastoise with Palkia which is horrible odds given my Manaphy was dead and his wasn't.... and we span 120 Vs 100, boosted to 120.... ELIMINATED. That was a massive swing for me. I was then able to move Karp up right next to Manaphy who was his last line of defense after he bizarrely committed Gyarados forward. He was left with a choice... attack my Magikarp with Manaphy and try and move it (nailed on he would have spun Song) or attack my Mew with his Sceptile and try and kill it. If Mew went down Palkia was there to cover but would need to KO Sceptile or I would lose to a surround. Granted neither is great odds for him but either could happen. What does he do? Attacks Palkia with Gyarados..... he benched him.... and I got the surround. Fucking hell.
I can't believe the amount of people that attack manaphy when a purple roll will end the game. Guy just now had a brilliant set up with 3 cacnea, a tentacool (powered up by cacnea), a manaphy and then a poliwag on goal and I was pretty powerless against that. I put him in a position where I can surround one cacnea so he attacks manaphy, does well over 100 into a manaphy song.... game over.
3 EXs so far in the event... Torterra, Manaphy (third one but I fusioned one of the three away) and last night a Rhyperior. Buzzing with the last one.

Strategy I'm loving if people don't bring enough runners to the party is:
Turn One- Put Greninja on the inside left channel, making them block his path.
Turn Two- Run Mew up the inside Right channel and then they block him....
Turn Three- Hurdle Jump to the corner and then
Turn Four/Five- Run Magikarp up the inner right channel and get him next to the goalie. Game over unless they have someone who can reach Mew and can kill him in one shot.
Obviously it's not fool proof as if they anticipate it they can set up a surround on Karp preventing you going in next to the goalie, or if they have Empoleon they can chuck him in inside Mew, but it is catching so many people out.
I love it when people just get simple decisions wrong. I moved my Mew up next to this guys goalie, ready for the surround. He couldn't surround Mew or block the surround so his choice was attack Mew with Manaphy or with Empoleon. He had 2 Manaphy on the board so his scenario was:
- I spin Blue = Game Over
- I spin Gold = Empoleon needs to spin his gold (anything else is too strong) or Manaphy needs to spin his white (much more likely)
- I spin White= Manaphy keeps him in the game (unless he spins Dodge), Empoleon keeps him in the game (unless he spins miss/dodge).
In the end I span Blue, so it was much of a muchness, but when he went for Empoleon I couldn't help but laugh.
Seems all the top decks are using 2 x Manaphy, 2 x Magikarp and 2 others (normally 1 of which is Empoleon). I came up against one of those just now going for my 50th win and got it by making 2 moves and using zero attacks or plates. :cool:

Mew out, attacked by Double Chance Blastoise but Mew KOs him.

My latest opponent was running Heatran without a fucking clue how to use him. I got both his corners locked with just his Goalie on the field, but Heatran kept his hopes alive. He constantly jumped out and CONSTANTLY spun purple Vs my white.... however he kept jumping out to the wrong spot. If he had picked other spots he could have pushed me away and blocked my other mons from retaking the corner but he never did. At the end of the match he pushed Palkia away and I retook the corner with Kyogre.... now keep in mind Palkia occupies one of the spots 2 away.... instead of leaping out between me and the goalie, he leaps out to the other spot, and then it comes off for him again, he can only push me next to the goalie. :D Idiot.
Not convinced by any of the new Pokemon but I need to buy something with my material. Tempted to just get Sceptile, but feel like it's a waste at this point. I guess I'll wait and see what people are doing for the next Gym.
Did get another Aggron this morning so that's something. I hope he gets the MP boost in the event but it looks like that might be going to Rock types. Rhyperior :drool:
Took the plunge and spent 4000 on Terrakion. Can't stand sitting on it rather than getting a new figure. Should be an exceptional counter to Sceptile, mew and greninja.
Next gym seems to be Rock getting the MP and Steel getting the +20. With that in mind my planned deck is: Mew, Terrakion (two runners), Aggron x 2, Rhyperior and one from Metagross/Heatran/Empoleon. Probably Heatran.

After struggling for the past few days I completely revamped my deck to Greninja, Manaphy, Mew, Magikarp (Gyarados), Kyogre and Corsola and it is absolutely demolishing everyone.
New gym but it's nowhere near as easy for me as the last one (though I am 6-2 so it's not too bad). Running with Terrakion, Virizion, Mew, Infernape, Lucario and Zapdos.
My water deck got raped today though, miss after miss after fucking miss.
Pokemon Direct just about to start. All of the previous ones have been big news, usually a new game, so hopefully this one will have something interesting too.

Looks like Solgaleo & Lunala can both fuse with Necrozma, Kyurem-Black/White style, and potentially new pokemon/forms.
I don't know what it is about Sun/Moon, but they really seem to have dampened a lot of people's attitudes towards the series. I myself still haven't bothered to take on the E4 but I put that down to the ridiculous level bump I expect there to be (I'm not sure as I haven't tried it) and the fact I couldn't be bothered to grind it out and didn't want to fail a Nuzlocke that far in. I'll probably just go for it sometime soon when I can be bothered. But the usual people I talk to who would usually be really hyped by a new game being announced just don't seem to care one way or another. Maybe Sun/Moon were just a bit shit on reflection.

After a little break, I am almost done with Soul Silver. I just finished the seventh Gym and got the whirlpool TM so I can go and visit those islands which I'm guessing have some legendaries inside. My top guys who I rotate in and out looks like this:

So I just spent the last two hours fending off level 20 Tentacools, Zubats, Seels and Krabbys while trying to navigate these fucking Whirl Islands. I eventually get to the cave where the legendary is supposed to be and there's nothing. A period of furious Googling has informed me that you need all eight gym badges and some fucking item from the Kimono Girls in that dance theatre :face:

Finally, finally, finally hit 3000 league rating just now. I was close to it months ago (2935 or something) and then crashed back down to earth and think I got as low as 2600 or something. The heroes that got us there are Manaphy (my most used figure with 1693 duels under his belt), Mew (1066), Magikarp (659, Gyarados 311), Empoleon (395), Rhyperior (298) and Swampert (229). Ironically Manaphy didn't even get off the bench in the whole game for tactical reasons (boosting Gyarados to 135 would make him more likely to die to Virizion whilst not helping him anywhere else). Rhyperior was the hero who got us over the line by bulldozing a Leafeon. I have zero idea why so many top players use Leafeon.
I wish there was somewhere to see how many total duels you've done. The records screen says 880 so that must only count certain matches because it's clearly not right.
I'm currently top 100 in the gym too using Zapdos, Jolteon, Stunfisk, Galvantula, Raikou and Dragonaire (Dragonite).
Shame it's just me playing these days. :D
I'm not sure if anyone still plays Pokemon Go in any way but a few weeks back they announced their first "global" event, to be held in Chicago, to celebrate the 1st year of the game passing. Essentially they cordened off a park and charged tickets for entry. Inside the park they made loads more stops and a stage for announcements. The idea being that there would be 3 challenge windows, 30 minutes each, wherein every pokemon caught in the world, but most importantly at the event, would count towards the total. If targets were hit a "Special surprise" would be unlocked later.
We had a similar event here in Chester city centre and certain other countries had their own, but the Chicago one was the proper one.
Turns out it was a disaster.
To get into the park, you provided a ticket and were given a unique QR code, so lines were slow getting in, with reports of it taking several hours just to get in. 20,000 people or so turned up to the event. And once inside they found that there was no provided wi-fi access/hotspots. So essentially no one could log into the game and if they did, it was extremely laggy and often froze out. This carried on all day and whilst it happened, the CEO and other hosts got onto the stage to pretend like it was only a small issue and start the challenges. They were later caught lowering the targets to make it seem like all was fine.
Crowds turned unhappy and started booing the hosts and chanting. A lot of people left empty handed and disappointed. After they stood in the(up to an hour long) queue to leave that is.
It must have been bad as Niantic have offered anyone who turned up and scanned the QR code a refund, $100 in-game coins and a free Lugia. They also announced the release of Lugia and Articuno, which was the special surprise this was all building too. Articuno because the Mystic team apparently did the most work.
Given the amount of people that turned up and the same with Chester yesterday, I reckon this could well have re-ignited some interest in the game, but instead they may well have helped properly kill it.
RIP Pokemon Go.
Thankfully, Pokemon duel should be revived by the upcoming massive update.

I stopped playing for about a month or maybe even more other than gyms (which have been rare lately) so I started playing as a new gym launched. I had a bunch of free boosters and one of them contained Mega Charizard X who is raping people in the gym. He is unstoppable.
I gave up but I'll get back into it now that the big update has hit.
Mega Charizard X is fucking scary in the gym.
All his attacks get +20 as standard because his ability is all your pokemon get unfrozen and all fire types do +10 and all Dragons get +10
He has 3MP as his usual is 2 but it's a Dragon gym.
His attacks do 130 (boosted to 150) and then 60 times the spin (he has the same wheel as normal Charizard) which of course gets the +20 afterwards too.
And here is the real key point.... anyone he knocks out is eliminated for 7 turns. :drool:

Got Articuno onto someone's corner, the goal is open but Articuno only has 2 MP. I pokemon switch to Charizard and he doesn't see it coming so takes my corner with Reshiram. From his perspective he's about to make me have to defend because my goal is wide open for his 3 MP Reshiram to stroll into but I just mega evolve and walk in.

It was more the name that stunned me. So awful.
So Gold and Silver hit the E-Shop about 3 days ago, to zero fanfare, unlike Red and Blue.
Me and my brother have decided to "Soul Link" it, which is another play style we found online. In essence it's a regular Nuzlocke but our teams are linked together, so if the Pokemon I caught on Route 1 (for example) dies, so does his. We have to play through at the same pace, and we can't have the same primary type repeated on our teams (e.g. if I have a Water/Ground Pokemon, he can't have a primary Water pokemon, but he could have something where Water is the secondary type). You also have to keep the pairs together so I can't stick a mon in the PC and have him continue to use it's partner, so every time we both catch a pair we have to consider what is best for our collective team.
So far we've just got through the one gym and I'm rocking Chikorita (the RNG fucking hates me), Hoothoot, Geodude and Wooper which are linked to his Quilava, Spinarak, Zubat and Mareep respectively. Our other surviving pairs currently in the PC due to repeated types are Rattata/Geodude and Bellsprout/Rattata.
Seems to be a solid enough start, but if it's anything like the other Soul Links we tried (we tried a few on some ROM hacks we never played before, which may have been a bit ambitious, and we failed both very early doors) he'll fuck it up soon enough and cause me some deaths.
My brother is seething at me tonight over the Soul Link. :drool:
We agreed ahead of time that in game trades were allowed to when I got Ditto and he got Drowzee he traded that for Machop and we rinsed Whitney with Machop/Golem respectively (I already had Golem as I've pretty much been forced to solo run with Geodude to this point). He then evolved his Machop into Machoke while still at my house so I was on my way to the Pokemon Centre to trade with him when my Ditto died to a wild Nidoran. He had the battle well in hand and I was trying to level him up, and 1 crit Horn Attack and he died. It seemed bizarre because the crit literally did 3-4 times the damage a regular horn attack did, but we looked it up and supposedly that's a little known drawback to Ditto that crits take into account his original stats, not the stats of who he transformed into, explaining why it raped him. He wanted to not count it as we didn't know about that, but I refused as it would ruin the run (plus Ditto was just a liability who would die the first time he was crit).
We carried on and in a random cave he got another Machop and I got a Rattata, which I could have used Dupes clause on, but there was little else there. 2 fights later it died to a crit tackle from a Stantler. :D
I haven't even been close to losing anything else, I just think it's his destiny to not use Machop.
I'm sure you've long given up on Pokemon Duel @Sir Andy Mahowry but I've been playing gyms only for a while (and starting to do daily missions again after about 2 months without bothering) and the latest gym has been so much fun. Ghost getting both buffs. :drool:
I've got something like a 30-7 record with the losses being 3 in a row where all I did was miss, 2 where the RNG was pretty bad but not as breaking as those 3.... and then 2 where I played like utter shite and thoroughly deserved to lose. All told though I've bossed the gym.
I still play Pokémon Go pretty regularly and we've come to the end of Gen 2, about to have Gen 3 fully released. The new raids system has well and truly turned the game into just raiding between in game events. Anyway at the beginning of September they introduced a new EX Raid system in which you get an invite in advance to a raid. Said raid has a much rarer Pokémon than usual there to catch after.
So far it's been all Mewtwo at these raids, but there is the possibility of Ho-oh/Celebi being added in the near future. They seem to release a wave of invites once a week but to a small number of players. In any case I've received one for this coming Saturday. May well be my one and only chance to catch a Mewtwo.
Yeah I play everyday but I’m not really into raiding. Did manage to get my first legendary last week in a Suicune, after failing to catch nearly a handful of Articunos. It’s not a good one though.
I've managed to catch several of each legendary so far. 4 Articuno, 4 Zapdos, 2 Moltres, 2 Lugia, 5 Entei and 5 Suicune. Managed to get 2 Raikou so far too. I should really transfer the lower IV of them so I have 1 to use, but just can't bring myself to do it. plus I'm holding a few for mates in case trading ever comes.Quote:

Played about three hours & it's almost the exact same game so far. A lazy rehash of possibly the worst game in the franchise isn't exactly a great idea. I've put the game down multiple times today already & not been back to it for a while, which is unheard of for a newly released pokemon game, so I'm not entirely sure I'll even bother to beat the main story.
Unless you really, really want to have the new UBs, or you didn't play Sun/Moon, it's not worth buying.

First attempt and my brother lets his Route 1 Pokemon (Pikipek) die in it's first ever battle meaning we have to try and Solo the trainer school. Would have been fine but the teacher's Rowlett doing 12 damage a turn to my Popplio randomly killed me on 17HP without even getting a crit. We contemplated just carrying on as we would just get back there with the same teams or maybe a better team but it felt wrong so we went through the pain in the arse of trading over our event Rockruffs (which we were not using) and started over.
This time I smashed her Rowlett to pieces but my brother's Litten died to her Popplio after we weren't allowed to use our Route 1 catches as I got a second water type. Turns out he got crazy para-hacks to beat her the first time.... and he retried it 3-4 times after we both agreed we couldn't be bothered to start over, and he lost every time. After all the stick he gave me after that random bullshit hit killed me....
The fight is manageable with Poplio as you can just use Baby Doll Eyes to nullify Rowlett.... but sounds like it's all but impossible with Litten. We may have to consider allowing ourselves a catch in the trainer school or something. It is a bit bullshit that there's 3-4 seemingly different routes that all count as "Route 1". Of course we could carry on this run with the benched Wingull and Grubbin but.... that doesn't sound fun.

Potentially, but it would involve probably an insane amount of grinding on crap level 4 pokemon in the wild as he's not losing narrowly, he's being battered completely. The best solution would probably be to get there with an alternative Pokemon to use, but so far no such luck.

Got Ultra Sun the other day and decided to play through with an equivalent "Blue" team. So far, I have Litten, Inkay, and a Marrill which I bred on ORAS and traded up. Recently finished my first ever Nuzlocke on Blue and I'm doing one on Silver. Had to restart the latter because I fucked up after Morty.

A little while on in Go and I've just done my 3rd Mewtwo raid tonight. 3/3 on catches too.
We had a 250 person strong Discord group for the town and just over 40 got an invite this time around. So far I'm the only person to get an invite in each wave. There's some bitter people about it too.
After this disaster we gave up for a while as we couldn't be bothered, but we're restarted this challenge over the last few days but are taking it very slowly with just a little bit of play each evening.Quote:

Brionne (Water) and Dartrix (Flying)
Diglett (Steel) and Noibat (Dragon)
Cutiefly (Bug) and Hawlucha (Fighting)
Flabebe (Fairy) and ??? (he hasn't gotten there yet).
Reserves:
Zubat (Flying) and Psyduck (Water)
Dead:
Drifloon (Ghost) and Zubat (Poison)
Genuinely no idea what any of my lot are like. Brionne seems like the best starter to me based on my limited usage of him so far, but we'll see if that holds up later on. I thought Diglett would be a sturdy fucker with the added steel type but he nearly dies to every hit and I can't see him lasting the distance. Cutiefly meanwhile looks like a stiff breeze would kill him but so far seems pretty decent. Could have done with some better type variety though, I'm getting bogged down with Fairy so far (and he's getting all Flying...).
Oh well, we're already further than last time... so here's hoping.

So “Let’s Go Pikachu” and “ Let's go Eevee” have been announced for the switch which is basically Pokemon yellow but the wild Pokemon system is replaced by Pokemon go mechanics but you actually have a little poke ball to throw around. Not doing much for me but may be the ideal starting point to train my daughter to be the very best.

Is anyone else trying out "Pokemon Quest". It's quite addictive so far, though I wonder how long it'll be til they expect me to start putting money in. So far it's been easy enough to progress without any though, so that's quite promising.
Yea, I seem to have hit the wall now, but it's really just a case of waiting for the "battery" to charge so I can play levels. I'm not going to pay for that... I'll just do other stuff and let it charge up.
I've completed the first 3 areas, plus 1 level of Area 4 and Area 5. So far rolling with a team of:
Hitmonchan (HP 88, Attack 782)
Seel (HP 554, Attack 262)
Growlithe (HP 276, Attack 552)
Hitmonchan's HP is an obvious drawback meaning he dies quickly, but that attack stat was too good to ignore. The only other Pokemon I've obtained are Charmander (starter), Ponyta, Vulpix, Rattata, Pidgey and Horsea.
It's a good way to kill sometime if you have a Switch, but it's not amazing or anything. Still, can't complain for F2P.
So annoying when you're training a bunch of Pokemon up to around level 30 to get them to evolve and then you obtain a Level 70 Grimer which makes it all rather redundant...
Exeggcute also looks like Hitler in this game so I really wish he was viable in my team because it's hilarious.
Currently rolling with:
Grimer (1271 HP, 976 Attack)
Seadra (1287 HP, 837 Attack)
Onix (1124 HP, 961 Attack)
Considering he's 40 levels above them, Grimer doesn't outclass those 2 by much.... but I'm imaging that'll change when he evolves. Onix is going to stick around long term because one of the 4 areas I can go to now one suggests Rock types and the other suggests Ground types. Unfortunately the other 2 are Electric and Psychic, and I have fuck all to use there (except the Fuhrer, but he'd take a lot of grinding).
Still, good way to waste time, and doesn't actually seem to require money at all unless you want to rush through it in 2 days.

I looked at the trailer and thought it was laughable.
Considering it's free I might as well jump in.
I probably don't like it as much as I liked Duel when I started with that, so i can't see me sticking with it anywhere near as long, but I'm entertained enough to probably get through the missions. I doubt very much I'll stick around the complete the Pokedex or anything, but we'll see. It'll probably depend how close I am when I finish the "story".
When you start out the game is generous with how long it lets you play but eventually you hit the wall where you get 5 games and then you have to wait a couple of hours for the "battery" to recharge so you can play more. That makes it very easy to just pick up and play for 5-10 minutes here and there.
The Switch game looks like a glorified Kanto remake which is :drool:
My God. I just got a Level 69 Machop who has 1177 HP and 1751 Attack.... in 2 levels time when he's Machamp... :drool:
Note- The stats I've quoted are with the current upgrade stones or whatever they're called that I've attached. They aren't base stats which would be mental.
Stuck on the boss of the third area (fuck you poliwrath) and I'm currently rolling with:
Rhyhorn (556 HP, 387 attack)
Vulpix (662 HP, 250 attack)
Hitmonchan (90 HP, 786 attack)
I also have Charmander (227 HP, 526 attack).
Just got Hitmonchan so trying to level him and I was hoping he'd do a bit better against Poliwhirl but he just keeps dying too quick.
I'm loving the game.
I've found the key is using at least 1 (if not 2 or even 3) of the suggested types in each area. My Machamp and Muk are easily my best 2 Pokemon but a shitty Starmie/Mr Mime/Exeggutor team made the Psychic area much, much easier.
I also really wanted to use Hitmonchan early on but gave up fairly quickly, he just died constantly.
I've only got the Electric level to clear now before I unlock what I think are the final 2 areas. Unfortunately my Magneton/Electrode are both kinda shit and I don't have a 3rd electric type.
Current Team being used for Electric level:
Machamp (HP 1955, Attack 2626)
Electrode (HP 1635, Attack 1976)
Magneton (HP 1532, Attack 2068)
And they get a bonus of 3605 for having 2 Electric types. Still not high enough for the recommended level though (I'm about 850 short currently).
My best possible team of 3, if all 3 were able to use my best stones (which they can't) would be:
Machamp: 2140, 2870
Wigglytuff: 3807, 1017
Muk: 2570, 1928
I thought I might have gotten away with Hitmonchan at the lower levels as Vulpix and Rhyhorn were tanks.
Beat Poliwrath finally after levelling my team to take them to 2,685 power. Also helped that Rhyhorn didn't die at all this time as Vulpix kept getting a moment alone and Poliwrath would rape her.
Rhyhorn is supposedly one of the best Pokemon in the game if you can get him Harden with 2-3 slots for share stones.
Just got a level 1 shiny onix.
109 attack and a whopping 606 hp with no stones.
Edit: Just used my bronze pot for the first time. Another shiny onix this time a level 23 with a base attack of 219 and hp of 678. He also has rock tomb compared to the other having roar and iron tail.
Use 1 to train the other or to change moves. If any of your moves have 2 or more slots attached to it try and get Harden.
I used the lesser to train experience :\
Next bronze pot was a good diglett who will be my 4th and I also got a drowsee for free to replace vulpix.
Experience is fine, there’s no guarantee of getting the move you want anyway. I made my Onix useless by changing Sandstorm (actually alright) to rock smash...
My Electrode got another HP slot so I’m only slightly under the recommended level. May just go for it.
Beat the electric boss first time. Final area has no bonus type which sucks but looks like it gives access to legendaries. We shall see.
Drowsee is fucking boss.
I just took in the boss in area 4 with a team strength of 3834 despite a recommended strength of 4500. Drowsee (level 27, 729HP and 279 attack) didn't only lost about a quarter of his health. He only lost that much because at one point both Onix and Ryhorn were dead at Marowhack.
Edit: He wasn't the boss. The boss has a recommended power of 5400 :\
Mewtwo is the boss I'm up to. I actually did much better than anticipated on my first try (About 4000 under recommended power) and probably did about 70% of his health, but I never really thought we'd pull it off.
Wigglytuff is my 2nd best Pokemon and it's not even close but I don't think Sing works on Mewtwo at all... making him useless as that's his only move. I'm hoping to get something else from my Silver pot that can come into the team and replace him.
Got another onix but as my main one only has one slot I'm keeping it as rock tomb.
Can I unlock a second move slot?
Not as far as I know. You want 1 move with 3 upgrade slots if possible though. You make it Harden with 3 sharing stones and then just use him to buff the other 2 who do all the work.
I haven't managed to get Harden on any Pokemon yet, but that's what Reddit seems to recommend as the best strategy, with Onix or Rhyhorn being the best candidates.
That or you can use Barrier on whatever Pokemon has access to it (Alakazam, Cloyster etc).

Turns out Mewtwo can be put to sleep... and it's damn useful, but I still lost. I guess Wiggly can stay for now though.
My current team rates at 13,786 and the recommended level is 17,500, so I guess a lot of grinding is needed. I could just farm through all my other Pokemon for EXP, but I don't want to, so I will stick to just using duplicates for that. It's not impossible another Pokemon could break into the team when they evolve (I have a pretty decent Magikarp who I would love to evolve to see how good it is...) but unless that happens then these 3 (Machamp, Wigglytuff, Muk) will be the 3 who conquer the game for me.
Sacked off Rhyhorn for Charmeleon.
Hypno (he has barrier) and Onix just can't die so I wanted someone who could bring a bit more offensive power.
I'm now carving my way through the game despite being so much lower on power than they recommend.
Hypno is actually insane.
No matter the fight I've never seen him lose more than a quarter of his health.
Never had a Hypno but he's probably a good one to have for the Psychic level later.
I'm gonna be here for days just slowly grinding up levels unless I sacrifice all my other Pokemon except the big 3.... so I'm getting tempted to do that.
Just got a 66 caterpie from my new pot.
With stones he's now at 1356 HP and 1409 attack.
Managed to get a Golem who became my 2nd best Pokemon and then fed most of my others to him trying to get Harden but failing. He did get Earthquake though... so that'll have to do for now.
I'm doing the physic levels and Hypno is still donning it.
Team strength is 6,338 and we just took down 9-4 which has a recommended strength of 11,600.
He still hasn't lost more than 25% HP in a match.
Edit: He died on 9-5. Recommended strength of 13,500 was just too much.
I think I've got to about 80% of Mewtwo's health but he seems able to one shot me at will the moment I stop dodging, which makes it almost impossible. I'm also seriously struggling to improve the team. Grinding by doing missions takes forever and if you lose to Mewtwo you get no EXP and no items which is a killer.
I got a Geodude with 3 slots and Harden and was tempted to put my Golem into it for EXP... the only thing stopping me was that even with that I was still losing about 20 levels. In the end I used Geodude to move train and now my Golem has Harden with 3 slots :cool:
With that I booted Wigglytuff (don't want 2 defenders) for Gyarados (just about the only good Pokemon I have left after farming all my others for EXP) and I'm even closer to beating Mewtwo, but still not quite there. I feel a few more levels on Gyarados will get us over the top as he'll earn another stone and his bingo bonus is +500 HP (I think... it may have been Attack) so he'll be gaining about 1000 stat points which will almost certainly make up the difference.
Just a case of cooking up enough meals to attract the Pokemon needed to give him the EXP....
Managed to beat Mewtwo easily on a random attempt. Machamp was almost dead but didn’t die once, Golem lost about 20% of his health and Gyarados didn’t have a scratch on him. Harden the difference maker.
Just got a Level 97 Shiny Shellder from my first Gold pot. Statistically he's already my best Pokemon even before he evolves and he's fucking shiny... so in he comes for Machamp. Gyarados is only 5th on stats (behind Shellder, Machamp, Golem and Wigglytuff) but he's been so immense that he stays in the team. Hit healing really is the key to the whole game.
Current team is:
Shellder (Level 97, HP 3234, Attack 3042)
Golem (Level 78, HP 4362, Attack 1007)
Gyarados (Level 66, HP 3232, Attack 1827)
Would love to be able to upgrade Tackle on Gyarados and Bubble on Shellder though.
I also got a level 88 Rhyhorn who may come in when he evolves, but evolving him will be a mission. I also would have no idea who to put him in for because Gyarados despite being the lowest really carries us.

You're supposed to chuck the thing through the circle, and the smaller the circle is the better.
You get basically fuck all EXP for battles, so it's worth catching shit even if you don't need it. Catching evolved Pokemon seems the best way to get decent EXP, especially if you catch the same Pokemon a few times in a row. Any duplicates you will never use can be sent to the Professor in exchange for "candies" which will improve stats of the Pokemon you are using.
You say chuck the thing through the circle, am I supposed to be aiming for something? I'm playing undocked so I'm just pressing A (to 'Get Ready' but sometimes I don't need to press Get Ready and I don't know why) then a green circle goes around and occasionally the pokemon stops the green circle but I don't know why then I press A again.
I've only played docked, but I press A to get ready and then throw the ball through the circle, with the smaller circle scoring more EXP points (assuming the catch is successful). The Pokemon do stop it occasionally and if you throw at that point they'll knock the ball away, which is just an annoyance.
I'm guessing undocked works the same way, and you should be aiming to throw the PokeBall through the green circle when it is as small as possible, even if the actual throwing mechanic is replaced by pressing A or whatever you have to do.
Edit- Yea, I just tried one undocked, and it's the same process. A to get ready and then click A when the circle is as small as possible. It'll come up "Excellent" if you get it spot on, or various other things depending how close you are.
Oh I thought Nice! was the best one. Turns out I've been doing it wrong the whole time because I did a really small circle and the Pokemon bopped it away.
Fought my rival, 'Garbage Boy' who had a level 7 Eevee and a level 3 Pidgey to my full party of Level 6-9 Pokemon though so I can't be fucking up too badly. Does seem very easy though.
I love that they've turned the Team Rocket guards into Jesse and James though. Broke my brain as a kid who watched the cartoon for a year before his parents would get him a GameBoy that they weren't in it outside of one or two battles.
The difficulty does pick up somewhat around the half way point. It's still not hard, but it's not as mind numbingly easy as the early parts. Giving Pikachu Double Kick to essentially hand you the first badge was ridiculous.
Look out for guys in red (I think? Maybe orange) outfits that hang around in Pokemon Centres starting with Cerulean City's one too. They'll teach Pikachu some pretty amazing moves.

Given that you can't evolve Eevee and you can get Eevee in the wild in both games, there's not as much of an advantage as you would think, but the starter Eevee does sound even more broken than Pikachu.

Dynamax seems alright, basically just Mega Evolution + Z moves, but it only lasts 3 turns. I'm fine with it, in theory. Of course when I do a blind Nuzlocke and some cunt uses it to sweep my team, I'll change my mind.

I am however Soul Linking Ultra Sun/Moon again. Our last one (a few pages back) was actually going well, but guess we got bored at some point, and stopped playing. Neither me or my brother have ever finished Ultra, so we're both determined to do it this time. Actually enjoying it, which surprises me, because I've always hated these games.
I seem to remember getting big into it the first time round, but I think that only lasted about a month & then I never had any desire to play it after that point until about two weeks ago. We'll see how long I last this time, I guess.
I did think about playing X or Y again recently, as I seem to remember that being my favourite of the last few generations. Should give the Black/White series a revisit too.
I think I should probably play some of the newer ones in preparation for Sword.
I don't think I ever went past Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.
Black/White & the sequels are great, and I feel like i enjoyed X/Y too, but I didn't enjoy either of the Sun/Moon games as much. I seem to remember OR/AS being decent - think that was one of the rare games where there was actual stuff to do after being the elite four.

I still hate ORAS, which hurts because Ruby/Sapphire were my favourites by a mile on my first play through of each game. They just held your hand way too much, which was even worse as Black/White actually presented somewhat of a challenge IIRC.

I loved Black/White and the sequels and they actually made it worth playing both by having one be all new Pokemon and the other have old Pokemon in.

We just beat the second totem relatively easily thanks to me getting a Charjabug and him having Oricorio, but I forgot quite how much they buffed some of the totem fights. Araquanid has awesome coverage with his move set and a berry that meant I couldn't OHKO it with Spark even after boosting my attack... it was still easy thanks to my type advantage, but I can tell that would be challenging to the wrong team.

Noibat and Alolan Diglett (though he refuses to train Diglett so I live in fear of him sacrificing it at some point)

2 deaths so far, both on me. First my Wingull (paired with his Slowpoke) was killed by a critical hit from Rowlett in the trainer school and then my Zubat (paired with a Gastly he didn't want to use) died to a pursuit from a Murkrow. Funnily enough reading back in the thread to last time we tried this, I think he had a Zubat die in the exact same fight last time.
The fire trial will be easy for me but I'm not sure who he will use for it as none of his mons have a notable advantage. I think long term he'll regret the decision not to use the Mudbray he got from the ranch... that thing is a beast from what I remember.

A level 11 fucking rattata just wiped my 4 man team (I'm catching but boxing all previous gen Pokemon until I get the national dex). My 2 hitters in Lillipup and Tepig (both 13) were injured quite a bit and the fucking rat went on a critical hit frenzy. I only needed to hit him twice but after he defeated Lillipup he kept biting everyone first and one hit criting them.

I was using save states and yesterday whenever I Alt-Tab'd it would load the first save state, today it would change the orientation/screen size/screen shit, now it saved a state itself and then loaded that which means I lost a bit of time.

Decided to pick up Sword and have a go at a new Nuzlocke (despite not being able to complete one but I can't play Pokemon any other way now)
Thing went swimmingly up to and including Nessa's gym, as my Rookidee powered through Milo's Grass types and Thwackey swept aside Nessa's Water gym. I had a solid team and I actually thought we might do this in one. Unfortunately not, as I lost my Vulpix and Dottler to random trainer battles. Kabu's Fire Gym saw my Gyarados die and then while training against Wobbuffets in the Wild Area I also lost Sirfetch'd and Thwackey.
The worst actually came while making my way to Stow-on-Side to face Bea's Gym and engaged in a Double Battle against a Pawniard and Togetic. My second Vulpix got rid of Pawniard and the Togetic nearly swept my fucking team. I lost Galarian Linoon, Inkay, Vulpix and Mareanie (which especially hurt as Toxapex would have done well against Opal's Gym)
As a result my current team is
- Lv. 32 Golisopod - Razor Shell, Sand Attack, Drill Run, First Impression
- Lv. 35 Corvisquire - Drill Peck, Taunt, Fury Attack, Pluck
- Lv. 24 Joltik - Fury Cutter, Electroweb, Bug Bite, Electro Ball
- Lv. 27 Snorunt - Powder Snow, Astonish, Ice Shard, Icy Wind
- Lv. 27 Shiftry - Leaf Tornado, Rollout, Mega Drain, Payback
- Lv. 32 Pangoro - Low Sweep, Vital Throw, Night Slash, Work Up
God knows what I'll do against Bea's Fighting types. Corvisquire would be the obvious choice but many Fighting types come with Rock Throw or Rock Slide. No chance of using Shiftry or Pangoro, need to do some grinding really.
Current Nuzlocke rules;
- Catch the first Pokemon in an area - I can however choose to catch the first overworld one I see, or the first chance encounter one
- No Dynamax Raids
- Dynamaxing allowed in battles - if I can, then the opponent will be
- Each area of the Wild Area counts as a separate catch area
- One mercy revive (already used up)
- If I happen to come across a Very-Strong Pokemon, I cannot catch it and the encounter does not count for any deaths
So I did some massive grinding and got past Bea but not without losses. I went in with Corviknight but after getting a good hit on Hitmontop, he used Revenge and OHKO Corviknight. Had a sinking feeling that this could be the end of the run but I managed to struggle through, losing Snorunt in the meantime. Got to her Machamp and decided to Dynamax my Galvantula as it was the only 'Mon left without an obvious weakness and at full health. She eventually died but not without putting in some work and really damaging Machamp, enough to allow Golisopod to finish it off.
I need to do some more grinding before facing Opal because I can see Fairy types ripping through my team and losing Corviknight means I don't have Steel Wing. Current team

I Nuzlocked it too and finished recently but didn’t have any troubles. I lost my Scraggy against Bede when he pulled out an unexpected fairy move (which I should have seen coming as I had the same mon :D) and my Gyarados against Hop because I didn’t know one of his mons was electric but otherwise we lost nothing until the champion fight. I lost 3 mons there, one of which was to an unexpected steel move, one (my starter) was sacked off because I didn’t want to switch even though I probably could have saved him but as it was the last fight oh well and then Jellicent went down after using Destiny Bond on Charizard.
Oh and I lost a Sudowoodo against the legendary, forgot that one.
Roserade and Corviknight made it to the end with Corviknight being the real MVP.
Working on getting a complete living dex now.
Yeah, my issue was definitely being underleveled, or at least not levelling to a reasonable degree between gyms. Opal was reasonable enough, as I had learnt to not send out your best 'Mon early doors and went with Vespiquen, who got rid of Weezing but died to her Togekiss. Golisopod managed to do some decent damage to Togekiss before being forced out by Emergency Exit but at that point Hatterne was able to sweep up the rest of her team. Next up is the Rock Gym and Shiftry should be the main 'Mon there.
So Gordie was easy but again in an unexpected way. My strategy was to let Shiftry do the heavy lifting, given that Golisopod has STAB Water moves, but a weakness to Rock and Emergency Exit being a real pain. However Shiftry was killed by a critical X-Scissor from a Crustle by one of the Gym Trainers.
Fuck.
So I was resolving myself to using Golisopod until when going through my team, I had a brainwave to use Pangoro. His Low Sweep would be Super Effective and if I could fire off a few Work-Ups I could probably sweep his team. Barbaracle was swept away quickly and I did my set up against Stojouner, after which I swept him. Decided to Dynamax against Shuckle (don't fuckle with Shuckle) and OHKO both Shuckle and Coalossal.
Next up is the Dark Gym, which between Hatterene, Pangoro and Golisopod is probably the first gym I can comfortably say I have multiple options for. Hatterene will probably be my main for this one.
So Piers was easy enough to blow through, didn't lose a single 'Mon, however after getting the bike-boat thing and exploring the last two Wild Areas I ended up losing my Grimmsnarl, which was pretty devastating. I took the opportunity to grind and shuffle the team with some 'Mons in the box to generate the following team;

Lv. 49 Pangoro - Low Sweep, Crunch, Parting Shot, Work Up

Mawile was actually available yesterday and I got him. Unfortunately didn’t get Drampa though so I’ll be missing one mon until the weather aligns again.
I don’t know if you’re still going @Byron but after reading this again it seems a few trips to the move learner guy would help those move sets a lot. I’m doing a second Nuzlocke (necessary to get the 2 final mons I need) and have used some of the same mons but Shiftry and Weezing in particular benefitted hugely from going to him.
Raihan not only wiped his team, it wiped the trainer too.

Well, may as well post about mine while we wait for the tale of Byron's demise...
Started a 2nd Nuzlocke but with dupes clause applying to everyone I used in my first run (so far that's only been used twice, for Budew and Stuffel). I also didn't allow myself to use any of the Starters as they all seem to be a bit OP. Route 1 yielded a Skwovet who I couldn't grind at all because he was going to die so I ran straight to Route 2 and caught a Seedot who became my unofficial starter. He was a lucky get because he was the same type as the actual starter I chose, meaning he would beat Hop. We did get some useless crap from some of the early routes but Wooper, Pancham, Roggenrola and Elektrike gave us a fairly solid base for a team and Skwovet was sacked off when Dottler joined up, giving us out first 6.
My original plan was to use a Snover I got for the grass gym, but this was abandoned when Seedot evolved all the way to Shiftry and got access to Air Slash and Hurricane. He ran riot in the Grass gym, one shotting everything except the Dynamax (2 shots) and he did the same in the water gym. The fire badge was similarly easy when Gigalith one shot the Ninetales (after setting up Stealth Rocks), 2 shot the Arcanine (only taking 2 shitty bites in the process) and one shot the Centiskortch (sp?).
I was concerned about Bea because we started failing encounters due to mons killing themselves. 2 Golett's both cursed themselves to death, costing me 2 routes, and a Helioptile died due to it's dry skin ability. Luckily we got a Koffing and some serious grinding turned him into Weezing. Unfortunately, during said grinding, our unofficial starter, Shiftry, met his end, after being hit by a 4 x effective pin missile I should have seen coming but just didn't.
Dottler came back in and evolved and we demolished Bea with our Weezing. As we stand:
Quagsire- 41 (Aqua Tail, Slam, Yawn, Mud Shot)
Weezing- 40 (Toxic, Assurance, Sludge Bomb, Strange Steam)
Gigalith- 39 (Headbutt, Rock Slide, Stealth Rock, Sand Tomb)

Weezing probably needs to take the lead again for the Fairy gym but the rock one should be a piece of piss.
Edit- Forgot how quick afterwards Opal's gym was. She was taken care of, although not in the way I imagined. I sent out Quagsire first because I remembered she had Weezing first. What I didn't remember was it having Levitate until it was too late. Quagsire took care of Weezing nonetheless with Aqua Tails and took care of Mawile with 2 Digs. For Togetic we switched to Weezing but a crit Air Slash put him on low health. Instead we swap to Gigalith and use out one allowed heal per match on Weezing before killing it with Rock Slide. We swap back to Weezing for the G-Max Alcremie and he easily beats it. It took 3 shots, I think, but Alcremie was doing no damage.
On my first play through of Alpha Sapphire and I just killed Kyogre after a 30 minute battle where he broke almost every ball I had. Fucking Machoke got a critical hit and my stomach fell through my arse.
Apparently my phone can emulate up to Pokémon Black/White 2. I know Blaze Black/Volt White were highly recommended over the originals, but can anyone vouch for the same for 2? Not sure if I should stick to the base game or do the rom hack.
Or are there versions from before Black 2 that are deemed as better overall? Last version I played proper was Emerald so it’s quite a jump, regardless.

I am pretty hyped. The remakes look great minus the weird chibi models and Legends: Arceus looks epic but does sound to be mission based like Monster Hunter (hopefully I'm wrong).
So following Yevrah's stint at streaming his Dark Souls playthrough I've decided to get involved and do a stream of Pokemon Shield before the release of BDSP next month, so feel free to join in and support me on my adventure. It will be a Nuzlocke and will contain the following rules:
- Can only catch the first chance encounter in the tall grass in each unique area, not the ones running on the overworld
- Each area in the Wild Area is a unique area
- If a Pokemon faints it is dead and gets boxed
- Can't buy healing items
- When fighting gym leader, highest level Pokemon must not be higher than his/her highest level
- Team members will be named after TTH members

Had a busy few days at work so didn't get round to playing until today. But first a summary of Monday's efforts.
The 6th gym was the Ice one and I went in thinking, right let's get DS evolved but we met Frosmoth who used Bug Buzz and wiped him off the field. We also lost Shindig to a critical hit Ice Beam from the Lapras that the Gym Leader has. A quick hop across to the Dark gym we picked up Raoul Duke the Delibird and a pair of Pokes who helped us with the gym. First was Byron the Kingler who learns Hammer Arm via the move rememberer and Gray Fox the Thievul who resists Dark moves. We beat the gym but lost Jimmy Floyd. This leaves the team looking like this with just Raihan to go but I might get out and catch some new team members to help with his Dragon types. Only the majority of the Wild Area to do it in.

Yesterday I delved into the rest of the Wild Area where I have not yet caught a Pokemon and it was a big mistake. Whilst I did add Browning the Rhyhorn, Offshore the Eldegoss and Smiffy the Koffing, in my careless endeavours they all succumbed to death via wild Pokemon fights or trainers. Unfortunately the nightmare didn't end there: Byron, Taz and Raoul Duke fell by the way side too, leaving me with almost the same team that I started with, just Ian and Gray Fox coming back in for the gym. We got through the trainers ok but poor decision making from myself saw only Ian and Kiko survive the barrage from Raihan's team, RIP Giggles, Igor Balis, SvN and Gray Fox. Going into the end game (and due to the fact the levels jump around like crazy, my max level will be set to Lv65) the squad looks like this:

I'm doing a blind (ish as it's a remake) hardcore Soul Link with my brother so it'll be a disaster.
I've got my copy too but seeing as I bought Shin Megami Tensei V last week, Pokemon will be my reward for beating it on Hard mode.
Went for Diamond in the end and I couldn't say no to Chimchar.
Finally got to start our Soul Link tonight after Amazon fucked my brother about so much he cancelled and downloaded it.
We've always done our Soul Links a bit different to the norm- if we get a dual type Pokemon we choose which type it counts as (rather than just using the primary type). When it evolves we can also change the typing if we choose to. All the other normal rules apply- we can't over level the gym leader, we can't heal in battle, if a pokemon dies it's gone along with it's partner. We also can't have the same types across both teams once the types have been chosen (such as below you'll see we both have Geodude... but one is classed as a Rock and the other a Ground type).
Current Pairs in our team (mine listed first):
Chimchar (Fire) and Turtwig (Grass)
Bidoof (Normal) and Shinx (Electric)
Kricketune (Bug) and Abra (Psychic)
Geodude (Rock) and Zubat (Poison)
Machop (Fighting) and Geodude (Ground)

Starly (Flying) and Bidoof (Normal)
Shinx (Electic) and Budew (Poison)
Zubat (Flying) and Onix (Ground)
Obviously, he's fucking destroying me when it comes to who has the better team. We opted to keep my Bidoof instead of his in the hopes of getting me a water type for the first gym only to realise it evolves at Level 15 and so won't gain the water type in time.... After that we hoped I would be the one to land Budew but no such luck. It was looking like the first gym was going to be hell for me, and i'd have to hope my Monferno was enough despite being weak to rock... but then I landed Machop as the last encounter before the gym who legitimately could be a run saver. At some point I'm sure there will be an argument as to whether him having Alakazam is good enough to warrant me keeping Kricketune around....
We haven't done the first gym yet but the plan for tomorrow will be to get the teams to Level 14 and hope it's enough.
Oh and we absolutely should have lost at least one team member in the mine. My bunch of shit munchers running into a Level 9 Machop who had revenge and was critting all the time due to Focus Energy took some miracles to get around. Fortunately, Kricketune proved his worth and pounded it to death.
Well attempt 1 fails at Gardenia because my brother is a cunt who couldn't be bothered to grind before Gardenia and thought she'd be easy on the basis his drastically under levelled Murkrow had beaten her junior trainers with ease and he had Alakazam (low levelled and only knowing Confusion) and Grotle (at the level cap but with only Bullet Seed and Bite to deal damage) in reserve. He got the shit beat out of him and I was fuming at him for rushing in without consulting me. He could have grinded and had a Gyarados and a Golbat for the fight but yea...... stunned he was so stupid.
We'll go again but I'm fuming. If he refuses to grind next time I'll be continuing my original run as a Nuzlocke instead.
Attempt 2 was going fine until he decided that instead of joining me on the route to Gardenia he was going to go explore every building in the city... and he got into a trainer battle with a Level 18 Chatot. It's total bullshit to have that there when the trainers on the next route (where you're supposed to go) are still using Level 7s.... but it is what it is. He wanted to ignore it but I just can't out of fear we'd actually win the run and it would be clouded by ignoring that.
I feel like we've learnt some valuable lessons on how to construct the teams (his team had a massive flying weakness, not that I think it mattered with that level difference) but it is getting frustrating. I think unless the next attempt goes seriously far, I'll just do a Nuzlocke on my own. I can't really blame him too hard on this one though, having a trainer that strong at that point in the game is pretty bollocks.
Attempt 3 has gone much better and we had no deaths through Maylene. That couldn't last though and the Wake split has resulted in me losing 3 mons for us. Firstly I was training up a Budew to try and get Roselia for the gym but thanks to the level cap being 30 2 gyms running I didn't have any of my good Pokemon with me.... this shouldn't be an issue picking off a random Fisherman who leads with a Magikarp..... except he then pulled out a Gyarados. I expected my squad of shit munchers to wipe right there, but thanks to Staravia (who was also part of my Wake strategy) firing off 3 intimidates, we limited the damage to just Budew and Staravia drying before I took it out with Rock Tomb from Sudowoodo. Still, those were 2 of the 3 mons I planned to use against Wake, so my plans were in tatters.
The new plan was to grind up a level 4 Magikarp I had in the box and evolve it into a Gyarados. Then my Luxray would take out his Gyarados before I swapped to my own Gyarados and set up Substitute/Double Team and then beat him down slowly with Crunch. This was going to plan until his Quagsire pulled out Haze and removed my Double Teams. He was also 2 shotting my substitutes and not missing at all, which wasn't ideal. Eventually Gyarados took out Quagsire but with only 1 Double Team set up. Floatzal took out my sub while I set up a 2nd double team but no luck and his Ice Fang killed Gyarados. Not the greatest loss as it was paired with a shit Meditite he has never used and I'd only bought it into the team this evening. Luxio came back out and one shot Floatzal with Spark.
That could have gone a lot worse but he hasn't battled Wake yet and I'm not not confident in his Thunderbolt on Clefairy strategy. We'll see....
Soul links sound like a right pain in the arse if the other person is just yeeting their pokemon into the grinder half the time :D
I've just started getting back in to some rom hacks - played Flora Sky which is meant to be one of the best, but I found it kind of a slog, and not very clear on where to go most of the time. Stuck with it until I beat the Champion but i gave up on all the postgame stuff & I've just started Radical Red instead, which seems amazing early on.
There's a part of me that's debating getting a Switch when Legends comes out, but we'll see.

Yea, Brilliant Diamond is safe enough. It's a remake of the game after Emerald so you should be fine.
And yea, those first 2 attempts at the Soul Link had me fuming, but luckily, he seemed to have learned from it. I've devised the cuntiest strategy yet for Fantina.... just hoping he can find something equally unfair to use at the same time. Blissey really is going to start earning his spot in the team at last. :cool:
Fantina was way more stressful than she needed to be...
My ultimate cunt strategy was devised after realising her lead Pokemon only had Fly as a physical attack. This meant it was easy to set up Blissey who was immune to her Ghost move and thus could only be fit by Fly. I used substitute (and it's lucky I did in hindsight) and then protected on the turns where Fly would hit whilst setting up Minimize on the other turns. In hindsight, I should have set up Calm Mind.... as once the set up was done I only had 10pp on Psychic to hit her with. I kind of thought it wouldn't be enough but I wasn't expecting to need 4 to take out Drifblim. Gengar went down in 2 easily enough but Mismagius had Magical Leaf which doesn't miss and made my minimize strategy redundant. It did however take 4 hits to break my sub so it clearly wasn't a threat. Calm Mind over Minimise likely made this a free win.... but I went the wrong way and ran out of PP for Psychic with her Mismagius on the brink of death, which she then of course Hyper Potioned off and I could do nothing with Blissey. I stalled her as long as I could hoping she would run out of PP and then swapped into Crobat who resisted most of her attacks.... but she confused him. Still, my team was too strong for one Pokemon to cause too many issues and once I switched to Luxray and he paralysed her with Spark the path to victory opened up and Crobat was able to come back in and finish her off, with Blissey still serving a purpose of blocking Phantom Force (why the fuck does she have that over Shadow Ball). A win with no losses, but more stressful than I expected. My original plan was to use Charge Beam as the attacking move but seemingly that's not obtainable until the 8th gym... and my back up choice was Shadow Ball which I thought was on sale but wasn't.
She was an easy Dragon Dance-Gyarados sweep for my brother so we continue with no losses and pretty well established teams now:
Me: Infernape (Fire), Blissey (Normal), Crobat (Flying), Golem (Rock), Luxray (Electric), Misdreavus (Ghost)
Him: Torterra (Grass), Mr Mime (Psychic), Golem (Ground), Crobat (Poison), Gyarados (Water), Murkow (Dark)
Does feel like I'm missing out big time not having a Gyarados in my own team but we'd have to bin off the Crobat's to fit him in as a Flying type. I'm also guaranteed to be able to get Garchomp once we have access to Strength so that'll probably force changes too.
Byron's gym was again a lot more stressful than it needed to be....
Due to not trusting Infernape to tank STAB EQ from Steelix I was training up my Meditite which evolved into Medicham... my brother rushed off and beat the gym without me as he knew Torterra would demolish it. I then asked him if there was anything in the gym I needed to worry about or if I could solo the gym trainers with just Medicham/Infernape as everyone else was approaching the level cap (the EXP share is a REAL cunt as it stops you having your full party with you for safety when grinding). He told me there wasn't.... conveniently forgetting the Azumarill the last trainer her. We should have wiped right there but Infernape was able to finish it but Medicham died, taking with it his best Pokemon Clefable. Maybe he should have warned me....
This killed off my Plan A for the gym (solo it with Drain Punch Medicham) so I had to turn to plan B.... Substitute/Minimize/Calm Mind/Flamethrower Blissey. Stupidly, despite going out of my way to get Calm Mind, I forgot to teach it. The strategy would have worked but after getting his final mon to red health and burned he full restored it twice leading to Blissey running out of PP for Flamethrower... the 2nd gym in a row where this has been a problem (albeit if I remembered Calm Mind, it wouldn't have been). He had also Iron Defensed to the max so without a crit Infernape wasn't getting anywhere. In the end I had to gamble, sending in my last remaining special attacker (Misdreavus) who landed a clutch Sp Def drop with his first Shadow Ball and KOed with his 2nd... which was lucky as he couldn't live another turn. No casualties in the gym, but Clefable is a massive loss.
You bastard :D Sub-minimize Chansey sounds like the most disgusting tactic possible. Teams look solid though.
Radical Red is brutally hard - the gym leaders are basically maxed out on their EVs & IVs, and they all seem to hit like trucks & take no damage from super effective hits.
You basically have to counter team each gym, and level everything up to the cap to have a chance, which kinda takes away some of the fun of being able to use whatever team you want, but everything else about it is pretty cool, so I’ll keep grinding away.
I finally beat Misty, after probably about 15 hours of using DexNav to seek out pokemon with specific moves/abilities, grinding them all the way up to the lv27 soft cap, then going & getting hammered, doing some more digging & repeating the process.
Eventually got to the point where I basically had a step by step process for the first 5-10 moves of the game (lead with Clefairy teleport out to my Mightyena as they flip turn out to Starmie, sucker punch it to death, etc), then had to hope I could finish the job. Gonna get started on the road to Surge now, but I get the feeling I'll be repeating the process for every gym battle :D

Nope, I smoked Surge - almost beat him first try with a team of guys I was training up in case I needed them, but I made one misplay at the end that cost me the game. He was blown back with little trouble shortly afterwards though.
I’d caught a Numel earlier on & had it sitting in my box, so levelled that up on the way to the gym & it ripped through half the team on its own. Mightyena is still proving valuable just for sucker punch, and having a Lanturn with volt absorb gave me a nice pivot to be able to come in on something & flip turn out to a more dangerous mon. I also had Lucario, Pangoro & Donphan in there, which gave me a nice load of priority to be able to call on in an emergency, it they were barely needed at all.
This one feels like a huge win after Misty, and now things are starting to fully evolve & learn better moves it feels like we might be able to compete on more even terms with the gym leaders going forward. Having said that, we’ll probably just get stomped again next time out.
Erika was much closer to Misty than Surge in difficulty - Mega Venusaur took me down the first few times, then when I did manage to get pas that her contrary Serperior smashed me.
It took a few attempts & some messing around with the team, but managed to beat her pretty convincingly after a handful of attempts.
The team keeps changing all the time, and the squad is only getting bigger, but it does seem like everything will come in handy sooner or later.
Pokeball catch rates in BDSP have been nerfed I'm sure of it.
On Sword/Shield quick balls were ridiculously good, now they rarely ever work and ultra balls are useless.
Trying to catch Mesprit and his/her friends has been painful.
I’ve been continuing to chip away at Radical Red, with the whole Rocket Interlude of Celadon Game Corner, Silph Co & Lavender Tower now being out the way.
There’s a 2v2 battle before the Silph Giovanni fight that was up there with Misty as the toughest battle in the game - you partner with one of the other friend characters & all their pokemon just exist to make things worse, so that one took ages to luck in to, then the Giovanni fight was pretty tricky too, until I decided to just counter his weather with my own, which got the job done pretty quickly.
I’ve also since cleared through Saffron, slapping the poor fighting gym with Mega Alakazam as you get the mega ring once you’ve finished Silph. Sabrina was a cool battle as it’s done in doubles format, and once I figured out the correct strategy for the first turn the rest of the battle went pretty smoothly.
Just finished the trip to Fuschia & done some more grinding to make some more money etc.
The squad is huge, but there are a few who have been putting in a lot of work in the tough battles:
Lv68 Cinderace - pyro ball, high jump kick, u-turn, sucker punch
Lv68 Alakazam - psychic, shadow ball, dazzling gleam, nasty plot
Lv67 Sableye - foul play, shadow ball, will-o-wisp, recover
Lv66 Toxapex - scald, venoshock, baneful bunker, rest
Lv59 Mightyena - crunch, jaw lock, poison fang, sucker punch

Managed to finish off the main game of Radical Red. Sadly there's no post game content yet beyond rematching all the gym leaders/elite 4, so just working my way through those & then I guess I'll have to find something else to play :(
Koga isn't a poison trainer in this, he's a ninja speed guy, so all his pokemon are super fast. Took a couple of goes to beat him but he wasn't too bad. Blaine was a sun team, and was seen off relatively easily, then after a quick side quest at Cerulean Cave it was back to Viridian to see off the final dragon gym - Toxapex & Ferrothorn just lolled half of their team away so that was easier than expected, especially as they had wild shit like Dialga & Eternatus.
Elite 4 was surprisingly easy once I figured out I should just run a rain team - took a few goes to beat the first one whilst I faffed about with the team, but once that was sorted I swept through the whole thing in one go, and should have beat the Champion first time too, but I needlessly sacked two pokemon then couldn't beat their last pokemon. Had to play that one a couple more times, but it wasn't too bad.
There were a few pokemon who put in some serious work during the back half of the game:
Mega Swampert - basically destroyed 60% of the elite four on its own under rain.
Toxapex & Ferrothorn - just a great defensive combo. Toxapex in particular is almost impossible to kill
Dragapult - the best pokemon you can buy from the Celadon Game Corner. It's just a fantastic, versatile offensive mon with a really nice move pool to be able to do a lot of different things if needed
Cinderace - libero cinderace is easily better than protean greninja in this. It's got a great move pool to hit much harder whilst still being fast
All in all it's a fantastic hack, just needs some post game stuff added in an update to give it some extra longevity. Misty was definitely the hardest battle in the game, although the rocket admin double battle with Brendan was also tough because you're paired with a moron who just makes everything harder.
Doing my first ever nuzlocke on fire red, I got as far as victory road before finally cheating. My graveyard box has about 10 pokemon, some were painful losses, but I just had my nidoking KOed by a fucking wild marowak, and I've just gone you know what, fuck it, that's my one freebie. For a first ever run-through, I don't feel too bad.
I also just savescummed the elite 4, but I did it knowing I was going to lose and didn't bother prepping items etc, I just wanted to get a feel of how hard it is/how far off I am. Based on fucking BRUNO doing me in, quite far, lol.

My main problem I'm having with nuzlockes, aside from obviously losing pokemon to careless mistakes/lack of preparation, is that I've always played the games in a England and Wales Cricket Board way of "playing to their strengths", e.g. just training the best STAB moves, rather than engaging in any kind of horses for courses pragmatism.
I've just got to the dragon gym on HG, and realised my Golem, Magcargo, Meganium and Gengar, without any ice or dragon moves are a bit useless. I should probably just train one of them blizzard but it just feels a bit...wrong?

Made some good progress today. Reached Fourth Star Member status, picked up a Gastrodon and Golbat, and came across a number of Alpha Pokemon which I can't yet beat. Can also fast travel now, which will make things much easier.
I've not really made any progress but I've barely had time to play. I have mixed feelings so far. One of my side missions is to find a Buizel who is at least 2'8 tall and there's no fucking way to tell which ones are even in the ball park. I've caught about 30 of the fuckers now, of which about 8 of them were "big" versions and not one of them is that tall....
Isn't that the same as the Magikarp guy in Gold and Silver? A nice thing I've come across was a Pichu and Pikachu frolicking around in the middle of nowhere. And a Chimchar too near the 2nd base camp, but that ran away before I could chuck a ball at it. I definitely like the sense of exploration, when making my way to the first proper boss (Kricketune doesn't count), I took the route which led me on the other side of the Horseshoe plains and through a cave littered with Machop. So good. :drool:
Maybe but gold and silver were 20 years ago and we’ve had games in the meantime where they indicated which Pokemon were bigger (let’s go) so there isn’t really an excuse for this.
Thinking about it, all my Buizels were exactly the same size so it must be to do with the Alpha Pokemon, the ones with the red eyes, which are clearly bigger. I've come across an Alpha Ponyta and Abra now, so my thinking is that every single Pokemon can be Alpha, therefore Buizel can too. I'll let you know if I find one.

So last night I decided to abandon my Buizel quest and just crack on for an hour or so. It was so much better doing that. I managed to catch a fair few mons, take down the first Noble, also take down one of those red eyed cunts... and on my way back I caught a few Buizel's and one of them was 2'8 :cool:
I'm ready for them to take the main series in this direction. I think the thing that will ultimately hurt this game is not having Gyms/a league etc. I don't think you could get away with too many games in this story style, but if you could combine this with a proper story it would be the best Pokemon game ever.
A lot of QOL steps forward too, such as being able to Nickname/Evolve/Re-learn moves at will without having to go to a specific cunt who does them for you. Unfortunately getting rid of the pocket PC feels like 2 steps back, but if we can have all of those things in one game we're laughing.

Whilst I enjoyed the majority of my time with Legends Arceus, by the end of my playthrough I was bored of the catching to increase the pokedex loop. Got myself to Star Member Level 10 and got the shiny charm, then had enough.
I only got to Arcanine in legends before I got bored. Just not a lot of substance really.

Decided to potentially try a Genlocke (Nuzlocking each game in order and any members of your winning league team get carried over to the new game as eggs) as I've been so bored lately after not getting on with Elden Ring at all. Was working through Fire Red slowly (about 1 gym per day) and finished it off tonight. It was.... eventful. The highlights:

Edit- Sadly, this has probably died after just the 1 game, so I guess it's just a Fire Red Nuzlocke for now. I just for the life of me can't figure out how to edit in eggs to a game. I downloaded "PKHex" which everyone recommends but it won't even open my HeartGold save data as the file is "too big" and when I tried to edit eggs into Fire Red as a test they were always illegal no matter how much I edited them because it kept saying you can't receive an egg at that location.... for every location. I can't figure out how to add the eggs and editing the encounters on a route doesn't seem to be any easier. RIP.
I could use actual hardware but I'm not even convinced they still have online trading support for HGSS, and if they do, I don't know if i'd find anyone who can breed what I need and trade them.
I've never bothered with anything beside traditional Nuzlockes, as it tends to be complicated and impractical. You could maybe try the opposite to Genlocke, not using Pokemon that have died/you used in previous games. That is much easier to administer.
I actually managed to get it working last night, somehow. So I was able to start Heart Gold with eggs of Charmander, Smoochum, Magikarp and Voltorb while the RNG gave me Chikorita. I was told by someone I discussed this challenge with that while starting with multiple mons sounds easy it isn't... and I didn't believe him, but after last night I see what he meant. While Faulkner was a piece of piss, the grinding needed to get a full team to the level cap was insane and very scary as they were all so frail. I haven't even bothered with Magikarp yet and I won't until the Level Cap is high enough for him to evolve. Charmeleon seems pretty broken though as he's just learned Dragon Rage.... so RIP my opponents for a while I guess.
Glad you've got it working. Its not like you have to use them all though, Voltorb can probably go and Chikorita is terrible against pretty much all the Gyms. Build around Charizard, Gyarados and Jynx and you're set.
Yea, that is true. That said I would feel bad binning off one of my Gen 1 Champions unless he dies at some point. We'll see what I encounter I guess. In hindsight it would have been better if Gengar/Machamp had made it in his place, but as I said it was a relatively new mon to me, and he did put in some decent work. That speed stat is incredibly useful.
But I agree on Chikorita, once the babies can all fight for themselves reliably I'm not sure it has a role. I need to refresh my memory on what the E4 are packing and plan around them I guess.

I didn't get a Drowzee to trade for Machop which wasn't ideal so I decided to train up both Onix and Geodude to resist her. I also taught Charmeleon protect in case he had to switch in while she had built up Rollouts, but I hoped it wouldn't come to that. I lead with Geodude purely because I'm bored of using them so if I lost him to a freak Metronome/Razor Leaf or something I wouldn't care as much. He was able to Rock Smash his way through Clefairy with no issue and then the Miltank came in. Rock Smash was doing enough combined with Defense drops that even after her Super Potion Geodude was on course to win but she Stomped him enough times that she got him into crit range. I could have risked it but with Onix in the back I figured it wasn't worth it so I switched in Onix to "finish" Miltank off, but between Attract immobilising him and Stomp flinches, plus a crit at the wrong moment, she dropped Onix to 1HP after he had attacked her once in 8 or 9 turns (1 more attack would have KOed for sure as she was on 1HP). I wasn't willing to lose Onix so I switched in Nidorino who I just got and he survived 2 stomps.... but of course he flinched on the 2nd one and still couldn't deliver the final blow. I then sent in Bayleef and she finally used RollOut.... which ended the match because she was locked in and therefore couldn't use Attract/Flinch BS. We finished it off, with no deaths, but fuck me she got as much luck as I've ever seen.
The reality is we were only ever going to lose 1 Pokemon maximum as if she had killed anyone I could have sent in Charmeleon, used protect to break RollOut if it was built up and then KOed with Dragon Rage.... which maybe should have just been Plan A... but oh well. It worked, but it was more stress than it should have been.
The team I used for Whitney was- Bayleef, Charmeleon, Onix, Geodude, Nidorino and Voltorb, but with Smoochum/Magikarp in the box both of those probably come in for Geodude and someone else.
I’m enjoying the concept and admire how quickly you smash through games.

Fuck me the Rival Fight before Gym 4 was nearly a disaster.
With Gym 4 being Ghost type and my team not having a real answer I made several changes at once, dropping Nidorino, Onix and Geodude from the above team to bring in Magikarp, Rattata and Zubat. The downside was of course that a ridiculous amount of grinding was needed to get them up to par as they were all Level 5. I focused on Karp and got him to 20 and then got bored so decided to carry on even though Rattata and Zubat were only level 14 and 15. I wasn't going to use them in the Rival Fight so it would be fine..... right? Well I underestimated his fucking Gastly, sending in Zubat to steal some EXP and then switching to Gyarados. He landed Confuse Ray on Gyarados and I hit myself in confusion twice while he used Mean Look and then cursed me and then hit lick and paralysed me. Thankfully I snapped out of confusion and one shot him with Bite just as the Curse dropped my returning champion to 7HP.... that was a real heart in mouth moment and I should have just one shot the cunt instead of trying to get EXP on the Bat...
Still.... there would be no issues now..... surely? In came his Magnemite and I switch to Voltorb and he hit Sonic Boom on the switch. No big deal, I have 45HP and it does 20 every time.... but next turn my Sonic Boom left him just under half and then he paralysed me with T-Wave. I then couldn't move 2 turns in a row but luckily the idiot used Supersonic which my ability blocks. He then hit me with another Sonic Boom as I did the same and KOed him. That one wasn't as scary as I was fairly sure nothing he could do could actually KO me... but still, that meant I survived the opening 2 exchanges on 7HP and then 5HP...
Charmeleon, who I could have used all along, then came in and ruined Quilava with Dig and Zubat with Dragon Rage. What a mon he is. :cool:
That grinding session has slowed progress a lot, but hopefully we can pick up again from here. The good news is that while Raticate can fuck off after this gym, Crobat and Gyarados should be worth it for the long haul.
Still need to work Smoochum back into the team... the gyms so far have just been too big of a risk for her.
2 more Gyms down but with a handful of casualties....
Firstly the Zubat I was grinding to take on the Ghost Gym died before we got there to a trainer's Fearow that used Pursuit when I tried to switch. It was my fault as the previous Spearow had also used the move, but I didn't think Zubat could take out Fearow anyway so I think he was lost at that point. It didn't end up mattering for the Ghost Gym as Raticate who was my Plan A 1 shot all of his Pokemon apart from Gengar who needed 2 hits from Crunch. Easy win.
We then started planning for the Fighting gym and it was a fucking train wreck. I focused my training on Smoochum, Bayleef and Gyarados. The plan was to use Bayleef holding a berry that made Natural Gift Flying type. This would hit the Primeape hard on turn 1 and then if he set up Double Team, which was my fear, we had Magical Leaf to guarantee we hit him. I thought Bayleef would then be able to solo the Poliwrath as he didn't really have much to hit us with, but I would have Gyarados (with intimidate/dragon rage) and Jynx in the back if required. I also bought along a useless Koffing just in case we needed to let something die to get a safe switch....
The plan didn't work. Primeape outsped Bayleef and Double Teamed first turn so our Flying Type Natural Gift missed, but this still consumed the berry. Bayleef was able to dispose of the Primeape easily enough though as it kept using Double Team (which wouldn't effect Magical Leaf) or Focus Punch which we kept breaking. When it did some damage with 2 Rock Slides I could use synthesis and go into the Poliwrath on a decent amount of health. The problem was Magical Leaf didn't really hurt Poliwrath and then he put us to sleep with Hypnosis. I should have then sacked off Koffing but I figured Gyarados was a safe switch thanks to Intimidate.... but he went for Focus Punch and the got a crit. Gyarados tanked it, but just barely. I switched to Koffing at that point and let him die to get Jynx in safely and Jynx would easily have solo'ed him with Confusion if not for his Hyper Potions. Eventually Jynx was put to sleep by Hypnosis as well so I switched to Voltorb hoping he could live one shot and outspeed the next turn... but of course he couldn't as Focus Punch came out again and ruined him. The Poliwrath was confused at that point too which was the main reason I had hope he could live.... but it wasn't to be. If I had bought 2 mons to sack.... we could have avoided this, but I had too much faith in Bayleef I think. Gyarados then came back in and finished him with Dragon Rage.
So Voltorb becomes our first champion to fall and while it did hurt to lose him, the RNG God's decided to bless me with a replacement electric type in the form of Chinchou. I don't think I've ever really used one before so that will be interesting. It's not ideal carrying 2 water types, but for at least the next gym (the Ice gym) he will be valuable.
Currently rocking with Bayleef, Charmeleon (who is under levelled now due to how much grinding I did against water types), Jynx, Gyarados and then the other 2 slots are kind of a rotating team. Main options include Chinchou who I just caught, Machop, Geodude and Raticate. Most likely Geodude and Raticate will be used to see off that bloke who fancies Suicune and then Chinchou/Machop will be bought in for the Ice Gym. The level caps are a bit of a bitch at this point of the game as you can't really train much between the gyms.
Fucking Bayleef.... not even being able to handle a Poliwrath.
How is it going @Browning? Don't tell me Clair has got the better of your team. She was always a tough cookie to crack for me.
Nothing like that, just been a bit busy so not had much time to play it. Had a lot of grinding to do to catch various team members up, but being able to get the EXP Share made that a lot easier. Hopefully will make progress on it soon. That Kingdra is always a worry though.
The level cap is a bit of a bitch for the next 2 gyms though- 34 and then 35. If it was even one level higher I could get Charizard for the Steel Gym but no such luck.
Oh and you were totally right about Chikorita... what a useless piece of shit it is for pretty much all of Johto.
If only Chikorita learned Leech Seed, then it would have been amazing. Screens, Leech Seed and Body Slam, even Kingdra would die to that easily.
Yea, it's going to be a tough decision when I get there as to whether I include it in my final team. Logically, I wouldn't, but my concern is going into Hoenn and then RNG giving me Torchic which could make a rock gym super annoying. Chikorita almost seems more useful for that fight then it does for the whole of Johto.
Finally got back to this tonight, going to aim for 1 Gym per day again I think as the amount of grinding I need to do to get my teams in order for each fight seems pretty high and Gen 2 games are really, really bad for grinding spots. That still means we should be done in like 3 days though if I get to play every day.
Today's gym was Pryce and it was.... relatively routine. My Lanturn had ruined all the Seels and Dewgongs in the gym previously so I lead with him to 1 shot the Seel. He then went straight to his ace Piloswine which wasn't ideal but I should have seen it coming. I didn't know if he would waste a turn setting up Hail (for Snow Cloak) or if he would go for a Super Effective STAB Ground move.... in the end I couldn't risk it and swapped to Gyarados as he set up hail. I then misclicked and hit a tame Dragon Rage and he crit me with Blizzard to drop me to 44HP. I wasn't risking anything so I swapped to Spinarak who I bought to sack off and then into Jynx who finished him off with 2 of her own Blizzards after I bought the TM specifically to counter his Snow Cloak if Gyarados couldn't handle it. With that threat down it was easy to switch back to Lanturn and take out Dewgong.
Jasmine is next.... and doesn't look particularly easy. The Magnemite's aren't really a problem but I don't have a great answer to Steelix. I have my own Steelix and a potential Nidoking but no way to get a good move on them. I do also have Machamp so I could try and brute force it.... and Gyarados might be able to surf it down/get intimidate off on it... but there's nothing that feels fool proof.

Doing well Browning, shame about the Ariados. I would have thought Lanturn could survive an Earthquake from Piloswine and do a hefty amount with Surf. But I guess I'm not counting for Critical Hits.
As for Steelix, I can't see Gyarados struggling against it. Intimidate plus resistances to Steel and Ground, half the battle is won.
I'm going to be joining you on your cross generation Nuzlocking. Fired up Fire Red and going to go with same rules as you bar the bringing over your E4 winning team to the next gen game, instead I'll retire all Pokemon caught in the previous gen and give myself one free retry on a route if one of them appears.
Started with Bulbasaur, caught Mankey on the route west of Viridian, caught Pidgey on route 2, amazingly picked up a Pikachu in the forest, Nidoran Male on route 3 and a Zubat in Mt. Moon. With Bulbasaur, Brock was a doddle but unfortunately Gary's level 17 Pidgeotto was too much for the level 12 Pikachu, who got hit with a crit from a Quick Attack. Ah well, can always get myself a Voltorb later.

My game has stalled for a bit but I fully intend on returning to it shortly. Gen 2 has always been my least favourite so I’m not surprised I’m finding it dull but I will see it through having come this far.
Pikachu is a big loss but at least with dupes clause you have a decent shot at a Magnemite, so far the RNG Gods have denied my one at every turn.
Yeah Gen 2 is a slog, so much so I'm going to call it done after the Elite 4. Like heck am I doing Kanto afterwards.

Honestly not doing any of the above kind of kills so much of the challenge. Being able to switch to whatever beats your opponent without losing any momentum is broken and is the first thing that kills my interest if I'm watching a Nuzlocke on YouTube because it's just obvious they're going to breeze through. Items not being restricted in some way or banned also makes it miles too easy. All you need then is something that can tank 2-3 shots while you heal everyone else up.... it's insanely broken.
Capping your party numbers isn't really that essential but might add something to the challenge, especially in the early gyms when they only use 2-3 pokemon.
How I handled Sword/Shield encounters was to close my eyes until I found something, but for the most part you can also use the exclamation mark encounters if you want to. The only issue is they don't appear in caves IIRC, so you probably need to close your eyes or something for them.
Sword and Shield are pretty fun to Nuzlocke though and not a massive challenge for a first try, so you should be ok.

Decided a while ago to go back and play some older gen stuff that I had never done.
Started with Platinum and I almost gave up because I've obviously recently played Brilliant Diamond and the story was too similar. I'm glad I stuck with it though because the Distortion World was awesome, it's a shame I never played it as a kid.

Black/White is my favourite game in the series, to be honest. The Blaze Black/Volt White rom hacks are awesome too, and they've recently released Blaze Black 2 Redux, which I need to get around to playing.

I've had some weird teleportation glitches already.
When fighting a pokemon at the start after the battle it put me on a nearby cliff ledge (thankfully it let me just walk down) and just now I started walking away from my friend and it teleported me into a cave and then dropped me into water.
It was cheaper than the Violet bundle, which was enough to settle the issue of which one to get.Quote:

It actually appears the devs have fucked it more than the limitations of the hardware because even emulating it on more powerful hardware doesn't solve the problems.
So me and my brother restarted our BDSP Soul Link after the last one fizzled out (we didn't lose, but we got bored and didn't finish it). We made a rules amendment that we couldn't grind on wild Pokemon or on optional trainers unless we got to a Gym Leader/Elite Four member under the level cap, but mandatory trainers over levelling us wouldn't be counted against us, purely because kicking Pokemon out to stay under the level cap (thanks to the forced EXP share) leading to deaths because we didn't have full teams was bollocks. We did stay under the conventional caps for the most part, but not entirely.
Anyway, I absolutely murdered the Elite 4 and the champion tonight with only 1 minor issue. My strategy was simple- Substitute/Calm Mind/Minimize Blissey and Substitute/Dragon Dance/Double Team Gyarados. The game has zero answer to this. Blissey ruined the first trainer, Gyarados the next 2 and Blissey ruined Cynthia. The only problem.... was Lucian, and it was a problem of my own making. I had decided the attacking move I wanted for Blissey Vs Cynthia was Shadow Ball so I decided to use that for Lucian too.... of course I overlooked that fucking Girafarig cannot be hit by it. As a result I got to Girafarig fully set up but couldn't touch it. I also didn't have a good switch option as Torterra only had Earthquake as an attacking move which couldn't deal with his only other remaining Pokemon, Bronzong- whereas Gyarados wasn't coming in to take a Thunderbolt. My other 3 mons were all shit munchers paired with my brother's good Pokemon. As a result I..... stayed in and PP stalled Girafarig until it was safe to send in Gyarados and set up. Easy win after that but it was cunty as hell as a strategy and not how I planned it. Had I noticed Girafarig I would have just kept Flamethrower on and ruined them with that. As mentioned before, cynthia afterwards put up zero fight.
His Elite 4 run was a lot less planned out and it showed as he got into trouble a fair few times, but ultimately he got through the E4 unscathed. He did however lose 3 Pokemon to Cynthia.... including the ones paired with Blissey and Gyarados. This means technically I'm in the brilliant position of my surviving champions all being mons who contributed next to zero to the run..... but oh well. Personally even if he had whited to Cynthia I would have counted it as a win for me.
Final Teams: Blissey (Normal), Gyarados (Water), Torterra (Grass), Kricketune (Bug), Bronzong (Steel), Weavile (Dark)
His team: Mr Mime (Fairy), Crobat (Poison), Infernape (Fire), Luxray (Electric), Garchomp (Dragon), Abomosnow (Ice)
Surviving pairs were Torterra/Infernape, Kricketune (lol)/Luxray and Bronzong (Even more lol)/Garchomp.
On to Scarlet/Violet for us next which is blind so will be a glorious failure.
After having time to reflect on the run I will say this.... Diamond/Pearl are not good games for Nuzlockes. They are very good and fun games in general, but the encounters are SO FUCKING LAZY. Every single route seems to be Starly/Bidoof/Geodude/Zubat and then add one of Machop/Shellos/Pachirisu/Meditite. It's fucking tragic. We got to Victory Road excited to add something... and literally everything in there had been available about 8 times. They should have put Geodude on the fucking box because it's his world and everyone else is just living in it.
Still, the last gym and the E4 are a proper test, but that's better than a lot of games.
Scarlet and Violet are, to put it lightly, shit for a blind Nuzlocke/Soul Link. They seem like very good games, but they don't work for this purpose.
The problem is there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what trainers have and where they are. In our first attempt I was bossing all the trainers on a route who had like level 7 shit and them some cunt on the same route had 3 x level 15s all of which had a type advantage over my starter. My starter died, but I survived somehow despite being drastically under levelled. I then one shot all the Gym Leaders Pokemon other than her first (2 shots) with a defense curl/rollout Phanpy but my brother wiped as he only trained his now dead starter.
Attempt 2, same shit different place. Route of crap trainers with one guy who without warning had triple the levels of anyone else and 3 pokemon. This time my whole team apart from my starter wiped, which wasn't too tragic as our teams to that point were not great and we've been able to get a few more encounters, but still. I get that it's "open world" but that shouldn't mean a guy with a Level 5 bug followed by a guy with 3 hench level 15s and then a guy with a Level 7 Pichu. Fucking stupid.
We'll push on, maybe with some mercy rules of some kind, but yea.... if we wipe again to something stupid it might be time to reconsider the challenge because I'm not open to starting over a 3rd time and listening to 2 hours of dialogue in the school.
Yeah, it’s a bit janky. I’d love it if they could find a way to put in a scaling system like they do in some rom hacks where trainers are set to be x levels above/below the highest level Pokémon in your team, but that seems unlikely.
I do find it disappointing that the game is so low level throughout - even the elite four are basically just lv60, which is nowhere near high enough to me - and despite saying you can do what you like in whichever order there are still some quests that require certain others to be done before them to even be able to reach them etc.
Regardless, it’s a decent game so far. Just at the champion so will then hopefully get in to what I’ve heard is an amazing post-game story.

It's been running for 235 days now and it needs 1 shiny Wingull and 1 shiny Seedot (the first took 109 days) before the first gym can be challenged.Quote:

Someone wants to give me a Petilil for a Cottonee, and I got near-wrecked by a random trainers Petilil so I definitely want one, so hoping to catch a Cottonee soon and maybe bin off Drilbur cos it’s shockingly bad.
Was trying to catch a Throh (10% chance in rustling grass in pinwheel forest is a blatant lie) so I’ve basically been farming Audino kills to level everyone up, after Munna puts them to sleep.
Tempted to carry on to level Tympole but my god it’s mind-numbing trying to make the grass rustle. Having to do a similar thing in the cave to get Drilbur probably makes me hate that stupid little mole even more.

B/W is probably my favourite Pokémon game. One of the few games with a decent amount of stuff to do postgame, I seem to remember.
I’ve started Legends Arceus for the first time recently & just getting through the Kleavor stuff. Not as into it as I’d anticipated but it’s decent enough so far. Definitely more enjoyable when you just sack everything off & explore.
