What was the reason for bigger cars?
Hybrid engines are typically bulkier and more floor means more downforce are the two main reasons if I had to guess.
People complaining that Monaco is shit and SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE is just as much of a tradition of the sport than anything else in the whole formula un, deux or trois.
It’s less the overtaking but the rampant tyre management that robs us of any sort of actual racing. The cars are so heavy that even one push lap ruins the rubber.
Cool, the Indy 500 looks like it's getting washed out.
They have a reserve day don’t they? Or am I making that up?
If so, some nice bank holiday viewing.
At least the Coca Cola 600 should be ON.
There has never been racing at Monaco in the 20 years you've been paying attention. Don't nostalgia post about it being better in your day. My grandad thought Monaco was a bad race when I was checking qualifying on Ceefax and he had a Nigel Mansell Portrait next to his wedding photo.
For those interested, I can't find the actual painting because it was binned when he died because my Nan hated it but it was pretty much this right next to the wedding photo.

Just seen the lap 1 crash. Magnussen's was really, really pushing his luck there.
That Williams was a beauty. No shame in having that at full display anywhere.
Hadn't they Rothmans for a good while?
Yeah, Rothmans got on the wing at some point. Mansell would've driven it during 1994/1995.
I’m not saying it’s a Monaco problem. It’s a problem on half the calendar now. Because of the cars.
Montreal next up which has the potential to be a bore fest too. Imagine saying that 10 years ago. Hybrid era has been good for a lot of things but it’s ruined the old circuits. The stats have been propped up by DRS but overtakes doesn’t always equal good racing.
Watching clips from 2005-2008 really make me wish for the smaller, nimble cars again. Also, surely we can go back to refuelling some time?
Indy's underway. Marcus Ericsson out on the first lap. :(
Newgarden wins. First back to back winner for 20 years. Pato O'Ward just misses out. That was fun.
The 500 was a good race. O'Ward bottled it by going too soon.
Indy is a good series but the cars are too ugly.
Why was Sainz allowed to return to 3rd, when he was clearly 20th when the red flag came out... Was it because the accident originally happened behind him?
With a red flag all positions are returned to the end of the previous lap. Given that this was the first lap they use the sector markers instead. All cars didnt clear the end of sector 1(basically at Mirabeau), so they had to revert to starting order.
Ohhh... cheers.
Thr tyres are too strong. You should not be able to do 70 laps on the medium yellow compound. The tyre should puncture and explode at 40% of that distance.
4 different rave winners so far though. Not quite 2012 when we had 7 from the first 7 but still. Progress.
Nevermind the hard whites.
They tyres should be made of whatever space age shit that they need to be to allow them to go flat out all the time and none of this managing crap. Still have one mandatory replacement.
Having to use all compounds during the race would be good. Do they have tyres over the weekend they have never used in this current format?
Driver % of their team's points:
Albon - 100%
Hulkenberg - 87%
Tsunoda - 79%
Alonso - 75%
Verstappen - 61%
Norris - 61%
Russell - 56%
Leclerc - 55%
Ocon/Gasly - 50%
Only zhou, bottas and sargent are pointless.
That team has been pointless for years, but now they're painted bright green it's even worse.
Team France, perfectly balanced.
You love to see it.
I'm surprised they don't split those two up. They clearly hate each other and will always meet on the road. :D
Here's the Indy finish

The atmosphere between this and Monaco is night and day. The TT is next week. I've coincidentally taken that week off so I'll be listening to Manx FM for most of it.
Paddock talk is that Perez is expected to re-sign with Red Bull through 2025. Bad news for Sainz, Tsunoda and Ricciardo. For the latter you'd suggest that's probably going to be the end of him in F1.
Sainz is apparently not being considered because he and Max did not get on in Toro Rosso. Big suggestion there that Max isn't listening to Toto flirting with him. That leaves Tsunoda who I feel is most hard done to here. Talent wise he should be getting that seat over Perez. He's probably at that point now where another team is likely his best option. Maybe a left-field choice in Mercedes?
Tsunoda is the definition of 'Does not have it'
he'd make Gasly look like a success.
Sainz to Mercedes should be a no brainer, no?
I think the prevailing opinion is that Sainz to Audi when they enter in 2026 is a done deal, so a works team won't want to be dishing out one-year deals when it's not their choice.
Danny Ric is about to creep into the top 10 with the most races entered. Get him out of here. Cant even beat Yuki.
That being said, name the drivers with the most entries in F1 who have NEVER won a world title

Felipe Massa :eyemouth:
Sorry Sincere, we posted at the same time.
Of the current grid, Hulkenberg and Bottas must be up there.

Rubens Barichello.
Found himself in a few title winning cars but never had it in him to get it done. '09 probably his biggest let down.
Rubens would be up there, Riccardo Patrese as well, he spanned about 10 eras. Eddie Irvine must have got to 150+ as well.
all above correct

Thierry Boutsen, Rene Arnoux
Most of the rest will be recent. Perez must be right up there.
Sainz must be close to 200 starts, surely he's on there.
