Up against Embiid and Harris plus the ludicrously tall point guard Ben Simmons I was expecting a tough time. With seed advantage we start with two games in the Garden. Anything less than one win would be unacceptable.

I was expecting a tough game and fuck me was this just that. 15 points ahead after the first quarter the 76ers just wouldn't die, pulling it back to 2 behind going into the 4th. We held our nerve to take it. Just.

This one looks comfortable, but for three quarters it was anything but. This team is an absolute arse to play against. Everything bounces off Embiid and I swear Bol blocked him twice at one point only for him to score the 3rd attempt. Chuck in the freak of nature at point guard and even beating them by 21 points (which all came from the 4th quarter) was exhausting. Job done though as we take a 2-0 lead on the road. To win one would be huge.

Lucius Allen also beat the Knicks playoff record for points in a game. He is sooo good.

This one hurt and hurt bad. 10 points behind in the first quarter we closed the gap to 6 and then turned that into a 20 point lead at halftime. At the end of the 3rd we were still 19 ahead. Then it came, with the trio turning it on to take the game and we even missed a three pointer at the death to take it to overtime. Next game is huge.

There are no typos in the above and I didn't touch the difficulty. It was simply the best game I've played so far on any 2k game. 70% from the field, 34 fast break points, 30 assists, 40 rebounds (9 offensive), 15 steals, 8 blocks and only four turnovers. A game for the history books.

We started really well and were 7 points ahead after the first quarter, we then hit forty-three points in the second to take a 20 point lead into half time. We then extended that to 30 in the 3rd. Mid-way through the 3rd the crowd were silenced and the 76ers abandoned the game, chucking their reserves in. My coach tried to follow suit, but I explained to him this isn't the loser franchise you've come to expect any more, when we sense blood we kill. He then put all our stars back in again (ok, I did and I had to do this three more times in the last quarter) and we hit another 43 in the 4th.

Once we hit the 4th I focused on nothing but getting the playoff point scoring record for Lucius. First he passed Mitchell and into the top 5, then Baylor and he was top three with MJ in his sights. Michael took things personally from his armchair with about 90 seconds left and got really upset as Allen ended up surpassing it by 10. Just a perfect game and fair play to 2K as it updates you in the commentary when you get close to a record and counted Allen all the way through the top 5 as he was doing it.

Immense stuff and back to the garden to finish these fuckers off.

SGA's 69 points moved him into second place on the all-time playoff points scored table and no matter what the Bulls threw at us, it wasn't enough. We take a 2-0 lead back to the Garden and I'm starting to believe we have a Championship winning side now.

Elsewhere in the East, the other semi-final sees 8th seed Indiana take a surprise 2-0 lead over Atlanta and in the West, Phoenix lead Houston 3-0, while Dallas are tied 1-1 with Golden State.

Free agency is looking interesting, with J. Allen's contract coming to an end I can either renew or replace. 89 rated James Wisemen is looking to test his value, which would be an immense signing. Get him and then Jordan through the draft and we'd me set to dominate the NBA for the rest of the decade.

A turning point this one I believe. After trying to outscore the Bulls on their patch in game 3, for this one we decided to out-rebound them. The basketball version of Gareth-ball if you will. Every time they came forward Jordan and Allen harried their players while I moved Bol and Olajuwon as close to the key as I could get them without falling foul of that stupid 3 second rule. The result? 29 rebounds and 5 blocks between the two of them, turning into 22 assists (with a career high 14 for Bol) as they won the ball and found Jordan time and time again. MJ did his thing, hitting 70 points, the 4th highest playoff score ever and we ran out comfortable winners, taking every quarter. Our first win in Chicago in 5 attempts and we now get two shots to clinch it in the Garden, either side of a trip back to Chicago should we need it. Let's do it in one.

Dallas level things up with Golden State. 3 games left max in each tie to find out who'll contest the 2025 NBA Finals.

As for the game itself it was a tight one, with both teams level at 112 points each with two minutes to play and Jordan having been fouled out at the beginning of the 4th quarter. A huge 3 from Bingo Smith started a 15 point run without reply that clinched the conference for us.

From watching your streams I think you may need to up the CPU defensive awareness and there’s another slider but I forget the name. Force field or shield. Something like that. It just makes it harder for you to dribble past the opponent.

I thought this save would be one I could play for loads of seasons, but it's too easy. I really don't want to start again, but all the records and stats are on Superstar. :moop:

To be honest I didn’t run into too much difficulty. If I felt it was getting easier I’d just tweak the sliders. Maybe reduce your shot success and the CPU defensive abilities.

I have a feeling your sliders might be about right though. Because when your team was poor you were getting bummed. Now you have good players you are winning again.

There is got to be a way to tell the AI to stop letting Jordan run through the side and into the paint every single play. When I watched, something like 90% of Yev's points came in that exact same way.

Yeah, that’s what I was talking about. I just checked and I think there are three sliders Yev should increase: body up sensitivity, on ball defence and defensive awareness.

Problem is, if I stop that entirely then I won't ever win any games.

If you don’t want to use the exploit then you will be forced to go down the road of proper NBA offence. That being setting screens, pick-and-roll and running plays. But as a casual fan of the sport I think that would put you off.

I would like to understand how to do all that, but the game does not make it easy. Plays in particular are utterly incomprehensible.

Gonna try those slider adjustments too 7om as I wanna salvage this save.

body up sensitivity, ball defence and defensive awareness were all 50, so I've moved them all to 100 and we'll see what (if anything solves it) by process of elimination.

I’d suggest practicing the mechanics in the scrimmages then. You can try everything out in there with no pressure.

Cheers, I didn't realise one could do that.

On the sliders, moving those three all to 100 solves it, but at the expense of being able to score at all. 70 brings it back and 80 sort of works, but you're into other issues you get with 100 by that point. Tried Hall of Fame difficulty too (sliders around 58), which might actually be the best bet as it improves the CPU at everything, but it's a bit of a headache to play.

While the issue is there to some degree with pacey players, it may also be that Jordan specifically is a bit of a broken cheat code. I wasn't close to winning a championship until I got him.

What I have realised though is that winning enough games by the margin I did last year does give me some leeway to try a new style with my current Knicks. Points with Olajuwon and Bol may be the way forward and would inject a much needed increase in difficulty, so that is what I will do.

Yep, as Pepe said, start with how to screen. Pick-n-roll and pick-n-pop. Absolutely fundamental.

Yeah, so you control the player holding the ball. You call for another player to screen the player who is guarding you. Then you dribble away from that defender and they get blocked by the screen.

Your teammate who set the screen then can either run toward the basket (pick and roll) or move towards the three point line for an open shot (pick and pop).

I sim almost all of the regular season and play all of the playoffs. Found that was the best compromise to get a full season done without it taking years.

Popped into CEX after work to pick up a good version of NBA2K and came home with 2K20 for buttons, although annoyingly the servers have been shut down so I can't download any custom rosters and have ordered 2k21 as a result. In the meantime a game with the Pelicans on 20 is in order I feel.

As you can see the roster remains horrible, so nobody is safe. Full NBA season selected, 12 minute quarters and 65 sim difficulty. I was going to avoid the real draft classes, but as the game is so hard that isn't a problem anymore so we start with 1960 and the year of Jerry West.

10 games in and we've actually won some games. Tended to play just one 12 minute quarter and sim the rest, but the playoffs will always be played out in full.

New York Knicks Season 2 (2022/23) - Mid Season Update

Up to the trade deadline in season 2 and here's what's happened so far:

Happy with all those exits bar Robinson, who wouldn't re-sign. Seems to be another way they've made this game harder in that players are more easily upset and impossible to keep once they do get annoyed.

Loren Rice was our 4th pick in the draft, which with hindsight I probably should have traded. Big things expected from LaVine and with this roster I'd hope to make the playoffs, or at least the play-in.

Draft class is 1969, so KAJ is waiting in the wings to hit the NBA. :drool:

Sadly that's not how things have worked out so far. RJ Barrett got injured for two months and then when he came back LaVine decided he should go one better than that and miss three months. Much improved on last season still, but we sit 13th in the East.

Sorry gents, aborting the Knicks game for the reasons below:

I set the sim difficulty to 65. This was a mistake, which I could change now, but I'd rather start again.
Real draft classes are a bit broken as there seems to be some variation in the potential real players are created with. Jordan, for example, is only an A and not A+. This wasn't an issue in previous versions as you could improve it in the postseason. In this one you can't, which is just annoying.
I had morale and chemistry turned on, but not conversations, so once a player got pissed I didn't always know why and there was no way to address it.

So, gonna start again with a different team and on 50 sim difficulty, morale and conversations on and use auto-generated rookies.

I don't think I've ever encountered a game that's had the same difficulty for years and then decided to rip everything up, but God damn it I will get a ring on Pro difficulty.

No was the answer and emphatically so. A hugely frustrating game that we struggled to stay in to half time as we watched the Suns rain down threes. All in all they hit 21 from 33 shots and it affected my coach so much he basically took the big guns off the court in the 4th quarter. A move I didn't even try and change.

Squeaky bum time has well and truly arrived. An horrific 2nd quarter saw for this one and as much as Morant tried to channel his inner Jordan in the second half, it wasn't enough and we slipped to our second loss in a row. To make matters worse Jaren Jackson Jr was injured on court and is out for the next 1-2 weeks. Rookie Zaire Williams will need to come in to replace him. 2 chances left to secure the series, but the next one is in Phoenix.

Gutted. We led by 18 in the first quarter and then trailed by 12 in the fourth. We pulled it back to within six in the last 30 seconds with a record breaking performance from Morant, who then hit a 3 to cut the gap to three points. We got the ball back in the final seconds but another three point attempt from him rimmed out and the Suns then scored the free throws from the deliberate foul. As it turned out Jackson Jr's injury cost us big as we become the first franchise in history to lose a series from 3-0 up. :moop:

The Wiseman one did feel a bit dirty and weirdly wasn't there the first time I did a trade finder on him, but I'm ok with that as actually playing the game is so damn hard this year. I know there's loads of room for progression with him too, but as he is now I think I preferred Steven Adams as well.

Oh and the sliders are the default ones, which (again as the game is so damn hard) can stay as they are.

Memphis Grizzlies Season 2 (2022/23) - Regular Season Update

Fresh from the playoff disappointment in 2022 we moved into the next 82 game regular season with a refreshed roster and Morant secured for 5 years.

A pretty solid season with a +4 increase on wins vs. last season and we did lead the conference for a time, but had a bang average last 10 games to finish 4th again. Bad news is that Porter Jr. is out for 2-4 weeks as we start the playoffs, but on the plus side we avoided the Suns, which I really didn't fancy again.

We won the first two games in Memphis, lost the 3rd, but then took a 3-1 lead with a win in the 4th. Don't want to curse things after last year's fuck up from 3-0 up, but this might be a series we win. Morant still incredible, but Jackson starting to come into his own as well now.

Decided to have a dabble with MyTeam and fuck me, playing it is like spending time at Abu Ghraib. A million different types of animations hurtle from the screen towards you. Pack types are seemingly endless (and I haven't a clue which ones have players in), as are the red dots telling me I have things to attend to (which seem to lie about that frequently too).

Despite not generally having a clue what the fuck is going on I'm enjoying it after three games (2 in domination and one in triple threat, see us 2-1 at the moment) and have pulled together this team:

I think I got Williamson from the first level of the season reward (FIFA gives you a 75+ player if you're lucky), which was nice as he's seemingly mine forever and replaces the one I should have had from my starter packs that I lost when their dogshit servers crashed.

I think I like the new one. There's something about the way 2K does historical content which is just great. I wish more sports games went into that. Plus I'm more confident at shooting this time around.

I think the MyCareer stuff has a decent hook, too. Drafted immediately into the NBA but your fans hate you. :D

If you're playing online and want to jankily walk around looking for pickup games while a load of identically-dressed avatars stand still as you walk through them that's fine but if you're just playing career mode let me choose Nike store, agent office, training, next game from a menu and just go straight to it rather than unlock a fucking scooter to do gnarly tricks on the slow way there.

Okay, the career has wore out its welcome. All my objectives are game based now so having to exit and re-enter the arena each game. I was going to finish that mode off before reclaiming the hard drive space but it's going on forever.

You can spend the 40 quid you saved on buying it to purchase microtransactions to make the MyPlayer playable. Then if your save corrupts you can deal with customer support for 3 weeks while they cross examine you like a muder suspect and get half of it back. Used to be the highlight of my year and now I hate it with a passion.

Picked up NBA2K24 from Gamepass. Horrible presentation, an utterly inexplicable 167GB download and micro transactions twatted in your face at every turn, but they have the eras thing in My GM which I think was introduced last year.

Started in 1983 and have just simmed the Bulls to the worst record in the league of 15-67 and it's Jordan time. :cool:
