What are the rivalries like? Is it just geography, or does it get spillover from other sports?
Raoul Duke
13-03-2016, 11:32 PM
It seems like everything is too far apart to have a proper rivalry. They should have state level competitions and then a US Champion's League.

Rivalries come about through history (usually nothing to do with the sport in question either) and America has none, as far as football is concerned. You can't create brands from scratch to rival one another, although they try very hard.

You would expect the two California/Texas teams to devise some sort of dislike (or even New York and New England), but my limited basketball knowledge extends to knowing that Los Angeles and Philadelphia have a bit of a rivalry, so I was wondering whether that sort of thing carries over. Presumably sporting rivalries will emerge over time, or fans will remember that time the Richmond Separators ran out of Mountain Dew on the concourse and it all kicked off.
You just meet each other a few times over the seasons and the niggle develops.
Indianapolis and Boston aren't exactly neighbours, but Colts and Patriots fans tend to be pretty antagonistic because of Manning/Brady and them meeting each other in the playoffs every year for the best part of a decade.
MLS is such a young league, it has to let these things develop naturally.

Lol at Hibs. From the sounds of things they really ought to have been out of sight by the time Ross scored their last minute winner.
Losing the cup final is one thing, if they fail to go up with the squad they have then it'll be ridiculous.
Apparently the recent winless streak is due to Anthony Stokes being at the centre of a scism within the squad - his 8k wage compared to the other players being on around 2k being the main issue, but with the former Celtic boys like Henderson siding with him.

Portland and Seattle genuinely hate each other; that's a real rivalry. The other one is San Jose vs LA, being that they actually have a history - both were successful early on and Landon Donovan stoked it all when he transferred from San Jose to LA - and they've had some epic games over the years.
Beyond that it comes and goes; the "Rocky Mountain Cup" between us and Colorado was good for a while, but after 2010 we were consistently better than them so it lost its intensity.

I saw a Facebook status after the defeat yesterday from someone saying ‘Can’t fathom what it must feel like being an Arsenal fan’. It’s actually really easy to explain. It’s pretty much what life is like in Britain under a Tory government. You don’t want to moan too much as in the grand-scheme of things and in so many ways you’re extremely lucky. You’re a Citizen of one of the wealthiest countries in the world and have a standard of living that people in Third-World countries can only dream of. People may quite rightly call you ungrateful and entitled if you moan too much. However there’s so many problems with the way the Country’s run and what with it’s resources and World-Standing it’s obvious it should be doing a lot better. It’s also ridiculously expensive to live here and is run by incompetent tw**s.

For people that want reliable streaming that dont mind paying a few quid try: https://streamtvbox.club/site/
There's other ones out there too but I use this one and it's really reliable.
If you pay for more months it's cheaper per month but obviously there's always the risk it could be all taken down. I've been on it for about a year though and so far so good. With an amazon fire stick, you stream HD football on your tv. Well worth a tenner a month compared with sky and bt's prices.

At this point, arsenal better hold on to wenger for as long as possible. We all know what happens to teams when one of their most successful longest serving managers steps down. The rebuilding process is mega, just ask man utd how bad it can become.

Saying that, it would be brilliant if arsene steps down and then they still finish fourth and get knocked out of the champions league.
Just about to drive into Leicester and it's still light.
Benitez is a good appointment for Newcastle but I don't see that he'll have transformed them from shambles to competent in the space of a couple of days. Like anyone we play now they'll try to starve us of space in behind. If we do what we are good at we'll win.

They're talking about free kicks on 'MNF', and they asked Ronald Koeman who is the best taker he's ever seen. He thought for a moment and said Juninho, as in the ex-Lyon geezer. This wasn't a satisfactory answer for Ed Miliband, who followed up with WHAT ABOUT MESSI AND BECKHAM.

The sad thing about tonight is that's the most competitive we've been away from home for fucking ages, even if we didn't look like scoring.
We've just had about 3 weeks off after being destroyed by Chelsea and we used that time to keep McClaren hopelessly going on for another game and give Benitez 3 days to prepare instead :face:
