I've just seen this on Facebook and read some of the comments. It was a thrilling ride, that's for sure.

"I am the greatest person in the world."

Alright, mate.

Nervous about my daughter's disco party tomorrow. It's not hers, someone from the nursery. It's 2 hours long, I won't know anyone. Fuck sake.

Making an app - some drag and drop programming type thing. I'm not exactly sure why the course is heading this way, having studied proper Javascript earlier in the module. :cab: Seems like a rather large backwards step.

And listening to To Pimp A Butterfly, attempting to make myself understand the hype.

I was doing similar earlier. But only really for something to do, not for a course or anything.

Milf fest.

I really doubt it. I'm annoyed at myself because she really is looking forward to it whereas I'm a pathetic adult who isn't. I'll force enthusiasm and try to engage but I'm missing the football too. Christ I hope there's a decent mobile signal. Do church halls have free wifi now?

Can someone explain my expense claims to me please. I'm claiming £185 (is that a lot? food + mileage) a week 'for the purposes of tax relief'. What does that even mean? It doesn't make a difference to my net pay so what does it actually do?

Wait I think after tax relief I had an extra £30. How is that calculated?

Are you PAYE?

Are you PAYE?

I don't think so. I had 0 statutory deductions. This employment lark is confusing. :(

Are you working for your own limited company or an umbrella company?

CJay

An umbrella company I guess.

Kikó

:D.

Expenses are tax deductible as you're being temporarily displaced or something.

If you are traveling to work as a passenger in a car you are entitled to claim 5p per mile.

You probably should just so you fully understand what you can and can't claim against.

How is it all so complicated? Is it a special situation like a state job or is it madly over complicated in the UK?
I just have all my deductions done on the payslip and hand in my receipts for cash.

Even in the last job, where there was far more expensing, I just put them into Concur and they put the money in my account.

Kikó

Honestly have no clue on your employment situation even now. I claimed expenses for the past few years working in a limited company but my accountant laid out what is and isn't claimable

I don't know if it's that complicated, I just don't understand it all. I'm working for the Housing Executive via a recruiting agency, but it's a contractor who pays me. That's about as much as I know.

Is this for claiming deductions for tax or for what you can claim from the company? Would the latter not just be laid out in your contract?

There's new owners of a shop on my way to work and they've started doing a UK average price match on fuel, which equals a pretty big discount up here. They'd be a bit out the way for most people but for me it's pure savings.

Pretty handy given I've done almost 4000 miles since my MOT a couple days before Christmas. :moop:

The dog was fussing all night and we couldn't work out why. Then he fell asleep and we realised he had some melted chocolate on the side of his head, so he could probably smell that and wanted it.

I recall you have a company car/van....well i hope you do with that mileage. You must go through tyres like i do underpants.

Original tyres are still good in it. I do an awful lot of it on motorways.

What would insurers make of you doing far more miles than you said you would when taking out your policy? I've just remembered I said I averaged eight thousand a year but I've already done nine with almost half a year to go.

I lolled but I have no idea how that would work.

The policy document says "You must inform us immediately of... any changes to your annual mileage" but it doesn't say what happens if I don't, so fuck 'em.

They probably won't cover you if you've an accident but you'll still have insurance so you're grand, just don't crash.
Nobody gets insurance for cover anyway, they get it because they have to have it.

Toby

My annual premium is more than my car is worth anyway. I'd probably better sort it in case of any third party stuff though.

Giggles

In fairness the small print probably has some wording that voids your insurance if you've a missing valve cap or have the seat too far back so I wouldn't worry anyway. They're all just lecherous bastards, practically criminals.

I've lied every single year I've had insurance.

My insurance is for 3001-4000 miles.

I'd imagine that I do at least double that.

Edit: Looking at my documents I'm also covered in other cars but not outside of the UK, I didn't know that until now despite driving around in a 9 seater van in Poland last year.

Edit: Actually that would have been fine, I was covered by the rental company obviously. Driven other non-rental cars across Europe though.
