Pol Pot was a tit, but he killed about a quarter of his population which can't put him anywhere near even Hitler, never mind Stalin in raw numbers.

You want something to show for all the deaths really. Stalin killed however many million people, but they came out of it a nuclear superpower and somebody less horrendous would probably not have enabled them to win the war, so on balance you would have to say that his rule was sort of beneficial (British Empire).

Hitler was going well until he wasn't, and Mao was just incompetent and crap. You get the impression that literally anybody capable of actually controlling the country (which was sort of an achievement in itself) could have done a less shit job. I suppose that lets him off to some extent in comparison with Hitler. Hitler started a war and deliberately genocided millions in a particularly starting manner, where as Mao just starved forty million and let idiots run wild because they didn't really know what they were doing. Plus it's China. They can afford to lose the people.

I think the names mentioned so far are all clear "favourites" in the award for biggest cunt of all time. However, I think in terms of being an evil cunt Papa Doc Duvalier is worth a mention. Though not on the scale of Hitler, Mao, Stalin or Pol Pot, his bastardness was up there.

You can comparing relative or absolute numbers if you like. But I say Hitler, because he came to power in arguably the most advanced, industrialised and civilised country in the world. You can kind of excuse uneducated, backwards peasants for allowing a mad dictator in. Not so educated people.

I'm inclined to say it was Hitler. There's an air of madness about Stalin and Mao, and while obviously Hitler had some mental problems on the whole he seems much more deliberate in what he did. Mao fucked up immensely but it's hard to say that anything he did was evil in quite the same way that Hitler was.

I don't think Stalin was mad, per se. Lavrentiy Beria was probably more of a shitbag and controlled everything for a while.

Can't forget Hussein either. Or the Last King of Scotland. There's a big pool to choose from. :)

In hindsight, Saddam Hussein was such a missed opportunity. The worst of his shithousery was in the aftermath of the Gulf War, which only blew up because the Americans had led them on, and then he went mental and stopped giving a shit because sanctions were fucking the country up anyway (something all the 'Ooh, ISIS is his fault' people seem to forget).
