Norwich may fancy themselves against a less teethy Liverpool.

Jimmy Floyd
22-01-2016, 10:00 PM
In a way, maximum entertainment would be provided by something like a 7-1 win for Arsenal, wins for various relegation candidates and we'll see what Mister Abramovich looks like in a proper PANIC. Mourinho's still available.

Reg
22-01-2016, 10:15 PM
:D That would be brilliant.

Are you that pissed off with Abramovich, Jim?

Shindig
22-01-2016, 10:17 PM
I hope Liverpool get their shit together.

Jimmy Floyd
22-01-2016, 10:25 PM
:D That would be brilliant.

Are you that pissed off with Abramovich, Jim?

To say I, Jimmy Floyd, am 'pissed off' with a Russian oligarch would be an odd way to put it, but he is pretty clueless about football and basically lets agents run the club for him. Quite what Michael Emenalo is/does/is meant to be doing/why he exists I have no idea.

Sacking Mourinho was clearly a grave error born of spoiled child syndrome, and now we're talking about making some bald Argie mental case the manager and signing Alexandre Pato, I've been given little cause for optimism.

Shindig
22-01-2016, 10:28 PM
Has John Terry got his badges yet?

Reg
22-01-2016, 10:29 PM
Understandable.

Not related, but I had no idea Huddersfield had such a rich history.

Huddersfield were one of the finest footballing team around in the early part of the last century but unfortunately for them, all that history has been wiped out seeing as the top flight of English football has only existed since 1992. They are one of only three teams ever to have won three successive league titles and they also have an FA Cup to their name. Since 1970 they have meandered their way through the bottom three divisions of the football league, including a spell in administration in 2003 since when it has been pretty much upwards.

Shindig
22-01-2016, 10:45 PM
Yeah, the league used to be battered by the North West.

Presumably you know about Herbert Chapman? He managed Huddersfield to the first two of their three in a row before moving on to Arsenal and winning then their first two titles in the early 1930s.

Hugely influential tactically as well, as the creator of the W-M formation.

Reg
22-01-2016, 11:04 PM
I've read about him a few times and would have been able to name Arsenal, but not Huddersfield.

It'd be fun seeing the W-M nowadays.

Someone is going to need to explain this W-M now.

It was pretty hard to find on Google but I managed it.

2-3-3-2

Then the wingbacks became full backs and you pretty much had 4-4-2.

Toby
22-01-2016, 11:10 PM
Well bollocks to me I guess. If I'd drawn it out I'd have realised how wrong I was, guess there were a couple stages of evolution in between.

Shindig
22-01-2016, 11:10 PM
Disco, that's W-W.

One of them is but I sneakily edited it to include a proper version, the first one also has cool old position names.

Jimmy Floyd
22-01-2016, 11:17 PM
W-M you can think of as how the shirt numbers came to have the logic that they do, 4 being originally further back than 5/6 which are the defenders or 'centre halves' today. Then you have 7-11 basically right to left.

Vim
23-01-2016, 12:24 AM
That first one is basically how Barca plas isin't it ?

'uddersfield is east of the pennines :dc:

The bitterness of the 'football began in 1992' crowd always makes me lol.

How so exactly?

Not sure I'd call it bitterness, just more of a backlash to Sky and the ignorance of people who hold post 1992 in more regard than pre. It's more an old person thing really though. Sunderland fans are probably one of the worst for it, since our biggest rivals had a good spell in the 90's during the emergence of the Premier League with their 'Geordie nation' stuff.

Smiffy
23-01-2016, 09:16 AM
Football began later than 1992 for most of us, surely? I didn't really start following it properly until around 97-98.

Giggles
23-01-2016, 09:21 AM
I was late getting into it too, but I remember the 92 season finale well. ITV kept switching to a few Leeds players together watching Liverpool beating Utd to seal them the title. I vaguely remember back to that Michael Thomas goal for Arsenal a few seasons earlier too but I wasn't really mad into it then.
Gazza at Wembley against Arsenal too and the moaning because they were playing a semi at Wembley for the first time.

.

Lee
23-01-2016, 09:35 AM
October '93 for me. I watched Leicester beat Forest 1-0 on the telly and was hooked after that. I can't remember much of it other than David Speedie scoring a scruffy winner. It was probably a shit game.

Kikó
23-01-2016, 09:44 AM
I can't think of a game before the united Barcelona one in 94 and the deflation of being beat. My first game would have been at Maine Road as my school backed onto the ground and they used to give tickets for free. I remember winning a fully signed city ball in a school raffle which I used to have a kick about on the streets.

My first united game was 97 in a friendly v Inter. Lost 1-0 and I think I was high in the east stand. Didn't go again until 2003 on my birthday v Fulham. Shame it's gone to shit on and off the pitch.

Lee
23-01-2016, 09:51 AM
I went to a few games in the late 80s and early 90s and remember a couple of results but nothing else about the games. I seem to remember enjoying them but probably more for the day out than the football. The first one I went to being into it was a 2-0 win against Middlesbrough at Filbert Street. David Speedie and Julian Joachim with the goals.

Toby
23-01-2016, 12:54 PM
Is there a Premier League team on TV less often than Norwich? I can't remember the last time I watched them live.

Lee
23-01-2016, 12:59 PM
They were on against Everton, I think. Some time just before Christmas. Dunno if they've been on since but I haven't seen much of them at all.

Toby
23-01-2016, 01:02 PM
If this (http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/revealed-most-televised-premier-league-6814318) is accurate that was probably the only other game.

John Arne
23-01-2016, 01:04 PM
Firminigoal.

Lee
23-01-2016, 01:06 PM
I'm off to our game now. If we play like we did against Villa and Spurs we'll lose about 4-0. Two weeks off after this; please be attacking and fun again.

Gray Fox
23-01-2016, 01:21 PM

Lee
23-01-2016, 01:30 PM
Fucking hell it was shit when I left the house. Typical.

Also when I left, there was a big spider crawling about. It's January, what the fuck is it playing at? If he hasn't hidden by the time I get home he's fucked.

Boydy
23-01-2016, 01:30 PM
It's still shit, to be fair.

Boydy
23-01-2016, 01:31 PM
He should bring Benteke on but keep Firmino up front along with him.

Toby
23-01-2016, 01:32 PM
Very nice goal from Naismith though. Surprised he even took it on from there.

Boydy
23-01-2016, 01:35 PM
In the slow motion replay it looked like Toure dived at it with his hands.

Smiffy
23-01-2016, 01:35 PM
Kind of hard to disagree that we look like midtable no hopers. Poor showing.

23-01-2016, 01:39 PM
Naismith against the bigger teams again

Gray Fox
23-01-2016, 01:41 PM
Are we going to get Benteke to come on, do fuck all and then be completely to blame again?

Giggles
23-01-2016, 01:46 PM
Benteke will come on, score, be proclaimed the final piece of the jigsaw, and the title charge will be back on :nodd:

Gray Fox
23-01-2016, 01:49 PM
I think, consulting the graph, we're deep into 'it's off' or 'there's always next year' territory.

niko_cee
23-01-2016, 01:54 PM
Yeah, but at some point aren't we supposed to start playing well to raise expectations?

Gray Fox
23-01-2016, 01:56 PM
What the actual fuck was that?

Sir Andy Mahowry
23-01-2016, 01:56 PM
Moreno :harold:

Boydy
23-01-2016, 01:57 PM
Fucking Moreno. What was he playing at there?

I like him but he's a shit defender.

John Arne
23-01-2016, 01:58 PM
Why on earth did Moreno stay on the outside of Naismith then?

Flanno on for Moreno, please.

Gray Fox

The fact that Benteke still isn't on, shows exactly what Klopp thinks of him.

Boydy
23-01-2016, 02:02 PM
The fact that Benteke still isn't on, shows exactly what Klopp thinks of him.

Nah, it's all Klopp's fault he's been no good. Klopp's been telling him to play like that.

23-01-2016, 02:12 PM

Sir Andy Mahowry
23-01-2016, 02:16 PM

Toby
23-01-2016, 02:17 PM
Wouldn't be surprised to see Norwich relegated if this is representative of their defensive ability.

John Arne
23-01-2016, 02:20 PM
Benteke would have missed that.

Out of all the poor performances and results over the past 18 months, thats probably the worst in a game of any significance

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-united-legend-alex-ferguson-7192167

Sir Alex Ferguson is waiting in the wings ready to help Ryan Giggs if Louis van Gaal loses his job, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

Although the now 74-year-old Ferguson, who retired as Manchester United's manager in 2013, has no desire to return to the dugout, Sunday People Sport understands he WOULD be prepared to take a hands-on role behind the scenes to help fellow club legend Giggs, currently Van Gaal's No 2, navigate the remainder of the season if the Welshman was given the reins.

:eyemouth:

Sir Andy Mahowry

randomlegend
23-01-2016, 05:03 PM
At least (you have to imagine) Giggs will have a go at teams, even if he turns out to be largely clueless as is likely. I'd rather lose every game 3-1 for the rest of the season whilst trying to attack than sit through another game like that.

Shindig
23-01-2016, 05:03 PM
I've missed Harper signing for the mackems. Decent option. I'm looking at our fixtures at the minute and can't tell you where any points are coming from. Not from a rock-bottom perspective but more from a 'fuck predicting this arse-backwards league' perspective.

Byram :(

Yet he wasn't good enough according to some Leeds fans.

You always loved Byram. I thought his defensive ability was okay and nothing better. His attacking ability was decent but nothing special. He was obviously good enough for Leeds but a top 6 Prem team? I dunno. I hope he does make it though he always came across like a good kid.

Maybe some decent coaching will do him good but he was far to hot and cold.

Went today. Aside from sitting in the home end, getting the missus giving me daggers for calling Moreno a stupid Spanish cunt and the terrible defending. That was a thoroughly enjoyable second half.

Hard to know what to think about the Liverpool game really, it was just a bit too crazy. We were turd for a long time but really clinical and showed great character. One of Lallana's best games for Liverpool, which is encouraging, and Firmino's finishing is coming along really nicely if nothing else. We still can't attack an aerial ball for shit, though.

The awkward moment when you should be dropped for Joe Allen(Milner).

Milner is utterly useless on the wing. When Lallana came on and he moved to a less advanced position he was pretty good, and I was pleasantly surprised to see him score that one-on-one after he'd cocked up the same thing in the first half. But we really don't need Milner, Henderson, Lucas and Emre Can all on the field at the same time.

niko_cee
24-01-2016, 08:16 AM
Milner channeling his inner (16 year old) striker for that finish. Moreno really is an absolute shambles of a defender. That penalty defies logic in any number of ways, what on earth was he doing? Get Flanagan back there. I'm liking the fact that Firmino is starting to look like he might chip in with a few goals. Got to feel a bit for Norwich, after bugger all contribution from midfield all season virtually every single one of them scored. That Bassong volley was almost as bad as Jagielka's last year. Seriously, fuck off with that shit.

Has Caulker played centre-half yet or has he just been an emergency centre-forward in every game since joining?
