Boxing Day football

This is why Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year; loads of left overs and loads of football. We've been invited to the outlaws' tomorrow evening though so I'll definitely miss the Arsenal match. Utter bastards.

I'm glad the early game's on Sky. Isn't it usually the other way around on Boxing Day, meaning I miss both as we have company/go around to my aunties after the 3pm games.

I can never decide whether Everton should be beating us or not.Jagielka's back so after a few games of no defending, they'll probably be back to top form today and Lukaku will give you a stuffing at the other end.

Meanwhile, hopefully Mahrez celebrates Christmas, despite his tan, and has the mother of all hangovers today. :yn:

Oh, and a Stoke masterclass to start the afternoon off would do nicely.

Luke Emia
26-12-2015, 09:12 AM
No Sturridge for a change. Although rumour has it he is training, Jurgen obviously doesn't overly fancy Benteke either so what's the chances of no striker again today?

John Arne

I think Benteke will start today. Sakho and Lovren as the two centre-backs is absolutely frightening.

I'm not sure. There's a clutch of clubs you'd always consider in that bracket, even if just on the basis of history. As long as you're in a big league then an illustrious history goes a long way to having people consider you a huge club. Liverpool and Milan are good examples. It works domestically too. I consider your mob the biggest English club outside of United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

I suppose you have three brackets:

Older football fans, the purists. They will always consider 'history' over all else.
New football fans, the Sky breed. Old or young, they only care about the league table in it's present state.
Younger football fans, the next generation of purists. I'm afraid Leeds United are a nothing club to this lot, history past 20 years really counts for nothing.

Jimmy Floyd
26-12-2015, 01:51 PM
Big club stuff just depends on when you grow up. Just as we consider Preston's efforts before we were born to be irrelevant, so teenagers now will consider Stoke a big and prestigious club compared to Nottingham Forest or Derby.

How can be book Bojan for that and not Martial in the first half?

Because booking a United player for diving means lots of column inches and thus requires the referee to take an option other than the most cowardly available.

Haven't lost a game with Schneiderlin starting. Have won one without him. Didn't see the game but the reason United haven't got the boring but good results they got earlier in the season is because teams are kicking it over their midfield and those in the center sans Schneiderlin isn't good enough to win the second ball and move it back up the pitch.

They could have Buffon in his prime and they'd still be losing these games. Goalkeepers can keep you in games where you've earned the result previously. They can't get you back into games that you've already lost.

Amen to that. Apparently Fellaini is a better midfielder (footballer) than Morgan. He's a fucking disgrace of a human.

Today's game exposes the myth that we aren't just a bad team full of over the hill twats and sacking Mourinho wasn't a bad mistake. Although the slightly better performance with Hazard's wide buttocks on the bench was a good indicator.

It was always going to happen. Mind you we won't be the only team tired at this time of the season. We could probably do with adding some depth next month so we can sustain a crack at a top six finish. Not that a single goal loss at Anfield is anything close to a disaster and Man City always have a wobble in them, particularly if Kompany is out again.

It's all gone very 1982 Monaco Grand Prix. 'Well we've got this ridiculous situation where we're all sitting by the start-finish line waiting for a winner to come past, and we don't seem to be getting one.'

Fuckin' lol.

Can't say I saw the second half but going off the reaction it seems that Arsenal have very much become a team that will always win having scored the first goal but will let you down in the comeback whereas it was always vice versa previously. It frustrates me that for years our problems seem to be mental (extenuated via injuries) rather than tactical issues but I can never tell whether it's Wenger getting more than those players deserve or another tactical plan would be better (I doubt it)

Thank fuck the league is shit/good this year or this last month would have destroyed us.

There's one man who can turn Uniteds season around if the manager decides he wants an actual footballer in midfield. Was hilarious watching Felliani yesterday knowing they've got one of the leagues best midfielders on the bench.

Fuck knows how we won yesterday, Arsenal just embarrassing, we have been shit for a month or so. Can't see them winning the league or even challenging.
