I'm on with Grim Fandango at the moment. The remaster from a few years back. The writing, characters and art style is all spot on.

The puzzles are largely too left-field, or just outright nonsensical, for me to really enjoy it as a game though. I absolutely, 100% would not have made it out of "Year One" (which I just have done) without the repeated use of a guide.

The Forgotten City is short but decent, if it's done well I'd be interested to see what they can do with a bit of a bigger budget and hopefully make it look less Elder Scrolls mod-y when you're talking to the dead-eyed automatons who're passing as people. It's fun though, clearly a lot of thought went into it and it's refreshing that they've made sure there are shortcuts / workarounds so if you've completed certain tasks once you don't have to repeat them on each loop. Some of the dialogue is pretty funny too.

All that is really unimportant though because it has an Asterix reference where you get to say "These Romans are crazy!" so immediate 11/10 GOTY. wullie

Also did a bit of Overboard. I love Inkle but I think in this case I may have stumbled on one of the 'best' solutions early so I'm only likely to dip in and out to discover a couple of secrets which were hinted at for me but I haven't got to the bottom of yet. Definitely doesn't have the replayability of some of their previous efforts, methinks, but what's there is definitely up to their usual standard and it's just a fun idea.

Frostpunk is pretty slick. It is, however, not my cup of tea.

I suspected it might not be as that kind of basebuildy type thing often isn't. Worth trying though because given you're also just building a ramshackle city in the middle of some snow it's also quite pretty.

I really like the idea of Sifu and the combat looks so satisfying, but from the reviews and impressions I know that I'd be massively shit at it and just get frustrated so I'm not going to buy it and instead leave it as a magical maybe.

I have installed both Vampyr and Rain of Reflections and will pick one to have a go at next.

There's nothing big currently grabbing my attention so I'm basically going to batter away at a pile of things which are shorter or I'm less sure about (so they can either grab me or after an hour or two I can write them off the list forever.)

So I had to babysit the nephew tonight and the first game he pointed at on my PS5 was Fallout 4. I've just started and it's great, great news that he didn't pay attention to like, the dead people. :D 20 minutes in a room looking at his feet. Good lad.

I didn't realise Rain of Reflections is episodic or that only one episode is currently out, but I have made a start on the first one.

It's interesting, story is a bit 'What if Children of Men but in a cyberpunk future?' and the game itself is some very light point and click, some potentially branching dialogue (no idea if taking different options will prove to amount to much) and some turn based tactics stealth. Has the look and feel of a studio making their first game, which they are, but I kinda dig what little I've played so far.

Turns out the door I'd unlocked with a terminal was behind another locked door. I had to resolve it with pumping a perk into lockpicking and wasting about 7 bobby pins.

Also, they haven't fixed the Deathclaw's physics. Outsite of the Museum of Freedom, all I could see where airborne, spinning vehicles.

Rain of Reflections episode 1 done. It's an interesting mish-mash of things, all achieved individually at about a 6/10 level but with just enough polish and enough about it to, I think, nudge it into "interesting 7/10 territory."

I hope they're able to build on it with the next episode.

Realised (because I'm watching Many A True Nerd do Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening(.... the Revenge!)) that what I'm in the mood for is something RPGish and looked to see what I had across the various platforms and have decided Shadowrun - Dragonfall may be the one, I'll decide whether to go into that or stick with the original plan of Vampyr.

I was unmoved by the reveal of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands way back when but now I have played Assault on Dragon Keep as a free PS Plus offering I am seriously considering it as a release day pick up. Of course I'll end up not having the time to play it properly but I am pleasantly surprised by AoDG, it has whet my appetite for looter shooting that had dried up halfway through Borderlands 3.

I have been playing Shadowrun - Dragonfall and it's pretty good. Wanted an RPG after I finished up with Rain of Reflections and it's scratching the itch. It's a really interesting setting too. Future/ alt-timeline Earth with cyberpunk but also fantasy races and stuff.

It does a frankly terrible job of explaining how stuff works but now that I mostly understand it I'm enjoying it a lot. Combat gets more nuanced as you get more abilities and gear and there have been some good quests with interesting decisions to make so far. Some aspects of it are a little undercooked, particularly how it uses your abilities / stats as options for dialogue and the like but this is a problem with most games after playing Disco Elysium.

I am still enjoying Shadowrun but it has some weirdness that is quite annoying and I feel like they ought to have thought of.

For example, you can't move items between your squad's inventory during missions and only the main character can pick stuff up, so if you find an item that'd be really handy for a squad member on that run - nae luck. Take it yourself or send it back to a stash. Odd. Walls (such as to the side of doorways) don't count as cover, which is a pain when trying to create chokepoints.

It also has XCOM-style lies about hit chance and just doesn't explain stuff very well.

For all that I am enjoying it and I'm hoping the odd difficulty spikes don't spoil it for me before I finish it.

Well, it eventually happened. We wound with a code for Blackberry Honey (the sequel to the very sketchy visual novel that was definitely not about noncing). Well, all the characters are 19 in this one and they all have these bizarre tits that are completely unsupported. Like, the main character has to visibly struggle to hold them together with her arms. I count at least three characters with this debilitating problem.

I read that the FIFA licence just allows them to call it FIFA whereas another one (FIFPro?) gives them the actual teams and players that people want. If they call it EA Soccer or whatever people will just carry on calling it FIFA anyway I imagine.

They can still call the 2023 game 'FIFA' but that's the last one that will be. They've already decided/been told that they aren't going to renew the license for it, but as far as I'm aware they do have the rights to players names and likenesses.

It'll likely just be a rebrand to EA Sports Football '24 or something similar. They could even just go for Ultimate Team '24.

If anyone has played it in the last 2 years there have been a few Italian teams that have revoked the right for their club to be in the game, so they just put the real player in a fake club. Example being Ronaldo playing for "Piemonte Calcio."

Ive been playing F1 since October and now im back on GT. It feels great. It is much slower than F1 obviously as it baby steps you through the license test and the slower cars. The Menu stuff still comes across as the typical Japanese humor which I don't really like. You cant unlock online racing until you have completed a few licenses and done some offline racing first.

Anyway, I rolled credits on this and I'm a bit disappointed there isn't more to it. Once the cafe menus are done, you're basically in car and credit collecting mode. There's driving missions and licenses for some more prize cars but everything else seem to just hand out money. Can't complain too much, though. Handles well, decent selection of cars and it looks (sort of) good. Doesn't pop as visually as Forza or Assetto Corsa does but the little details kind of make it. I really like how the headlights reflect off other cars in pitch darkness.

One other thing about the AI is they do get twitchy and make mistakes. The jumps in rallies upset them as much as you and they do slide about a bit.

Dipped into an older Assassin's Creed (Syndicate) as I was at a loose end for what to play next. Jesus, it handles like arse. It's not even that old. Taking a bit of getting used to, to say the least.

I've also been meaning to replay The Last of Us Part 2 and Disco Elysium, so I've started both of those up again.

The newest patch for Disco seems to have massively improved the loading times, too, which is the only reason I haven't replayed it sooner.

Early impressions of WWE 2K22 since playing through the Showcase mode:

Not as glitchy as expected but I don't like how they manage to avoid that. You get control taken away from you quite a bit, probably to make sure the animations line up. Feels a bit stodgy and I've never liked how the AI will look dead then counter on a whim. Speaking of counters, the windows on that are a bit inconsistent. Doesn't help that they're still small icons above your Superstar's(tm) head that you could easily miss. The tutorial explains the bare minimum but there's no analogue bollocks with submissions now. Like all these games, it just doesn't flow like a match should.

36 of the roster are no longer with the company.

The transition into video footage on the matches is nice on the Showcase mode. Although it does highlight, yet again, control being taken away from your for the cool shit. I also don't care for doing objectives in that mode. Partly because the AI's not exactly in on it. Why take 15-20 minutes trying to make that happen when I can just stomp them in 5?

There are a few updates on GT which have broken the game.

They have added wind speed and direction which 99% of the time, will make time trial and license test impossible based on what the wind is doing
Some license tests and missions put you on the wrong tyres which also makes things even more difficult.

I've only played their UT mode so can't comment on the other modes (although they're usually shit as EA don't care about them) but overall it's not great.

I think it's better than previous years but they're still not good enough as EA are happy to push out arcadey bullshit as they know they don't need to make real strides to produce a great game as people will buy it whatever.

The ladder would go from WE MUST NOT BE MOVED even when I'd punch or run into it to it will fall over if the wind changes direction. HIAC was murder trying to manoeuvre around the area between the cell and the ring to try and bust out of it.

Yeah but it's harder to do in the 6 & 8 man tags as by the time you've knocked the partners down the guy in the ring has miraculously found a second wind despite being hit by 18 finishers.

Which is another annoyance of mine, the AI seems to brush off damage so fast. I put an AI through the HIAC roof into the ring (after having thrown them off a minute or two earlier) and they were up before I had climbed down.

Okay, MotoGP 22 has a big mode about the 2009 season and it's really well presented with a documentary. I really want to get good at these games but I really am allergic to apexes. The MotoGP grid has rider likenesses whereas the feeder series' get people wearing helmets. That's a shame. On the plus side, Ana Carrasco has a woman's body type. I was worried for a second.

MotoGP 22's career is done. Same old story, really. A bit bland with a couple of tweaks but not massively different from last season. The Nine story mode thing is cool and reminds me an awful lot of Faster/Fastest/etc. Not surprising as the same bloke directed this mode. No Ewan McGregor narration, sadly.

Riding in the rain is a fucking nightmare and there's definitely some heavy braking zones where your brakes feel like they've gone AWOL. Okay/10.

Unrelately I've been playing Red Dead 2 and I would say I'm impressed by it more than I'm loving it. It's a beautiful thing but it feels like it creaks a bit under the weight of the systems it has. Some of which barely make any sense and some of which are just objectively annoying and manage to make the game gamier when they're clearly going for what passes for realism in video games.

I'm enjoying it and it's a beautiful world to traipse about it and as I said, it's impressive, but I suspect by the time I'm done with it it'll have left me a little cold and without strong feelings on it, as tends to be the way for me with Rockstar stuff.

Having delved into what's there for the tiers on PS+, I still think it needs a little work.

For example, in the extra tier, you get access to the PS5 versions of Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding directors cuts. Yet the first Spiderman game is the ps4 version only, no PS5 upgrade is available for it in any tier.
They could also do with giving their 3rd party lineup a boost. Having RDR2 on there is great, but the rest are mostly your Ubisoft titles. And give me Metal Gear!

They've also made the choice of having the retro archive only available via streaming. You can't download them to your console as you would with the current game catalogue. So if you're having a bad time with your ISP, this might not be great for you.

And it's getting jarring that Arthur's regularly talking about the misgivings he has about the life he and the gang lead, etc. is set against Rockstar insisting that every single mission ends with dozens of dead enemies. This gang are either the unluckiest bunch of people going or the more incompetent because literally none of their jobs go right.

I just can't see a reason to get onto the Premium tier. Unless there's some retro games in there you plan on playing through like today, then there seems little point.

Extra is where I reckon most will settle on. You get the game catalogue and for now new titles(Stray) seem to be coming to that too.
