From what I have seen, The Martian.

Are we going by the IMDB release date? If so, I've only seen 19, but for what it's worth, bearing in mind that I haven't seen Star Wars yet...

Mad Max: Fury Road
Ex Machina
Far from the Madding Crowd
Brooklyn
Black Mass

Spammer

1. Inside Out
2. Mad Max
3. Ex Machina

Not seen some, but that from what I have seen.

Josh

No 9's on 10's on my IMDB from 2015 but these I have as 8's:

Room
Mad Max: Fury Road
Beasts Of No Nation
Straight Outta Compton
Ex Machina

Fair few I haven't seen yet but will be next week once I finish work like Black Mass, Brooklyn, The Martian, Amy, Sicario and Star Wars

Sir Andy Mahowry

Read that as 'Breasts of No Nation' and thought you were talking about a porno.

I guess that's a different thread.

John Arne
18-12-2015, 05:23 PM
For me..

The Martian
Me, Earl and the Dying Girl
Room
Whiplash
Ex Machina

Dark Soldier
18-12-2015, 05:41 PM
Goodnight Mommy
Ex Machina
Sicario
Room
The Lobster/The Martian

Older than Ireland. Only 2015 film I've seen.

Henry
18-12-2015, 05:51 PM
Goodnight Mommy
Ex Machina
Sicario
Room
The Lobster/The Martian

That's six.

Dark Soldier

That's six.

You don't say. Was a placeholder til I got to watch The Martian again.

Lewis
18-12-2015, 06:04 PM
The Martian, and then American Sniper. Mad Max by far the worst.

Baz
18-12-2015, 06:26 PM
The only 2015 films I've seen are:

Straight Outta Compton (awesome)
Hunger Games (absolute garb)
Inside Out (alright but hardly amazing)
Maze Runner (poo, especially compared to the first)

And ten minutes of Fifty Shades.

So my only nomination for best film of 2015 is Straight Outta Compton.

I've barely watched anything new this year, looking out for some of the suggestions online though.

Straight Outta Compton 7
The Gift 8
Southpaw 6
Jutrassic World 6

Good shout on The Gift, forgot all about that.

2015 has been a very movie-free year for me.

Jurassic World (5)
Pitch Perfect 2 (5)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (4)
Fast & Furious 7 (5)

Yep, basically only saw movies when dragged to the cinema by others.

Not sure how many 'new' films I've seen this year.

The Martian was wonderful, so I'll go with that.

Spoonsky
19-12-2015, 12:43 AM
Ex Machina
Me & Earl & the Dying Girl
The Martian
Bridge of Spies

Those are the best off the top of my head. Last year was much better.

It was an excellent year for films, but three stand out way ahead of the pack:

1. The Martian
2. Inside Out
3. Mad Max: Fury Road

All three are fantastic films that I'll rewatch plenty of times. Most years are lucky to have one.

Is Mad Max a love/hate affair? I've seen plenty mention it as the best and worst film this year.

It's got a bit of a feminist subtext which has been divisive with some people.

I forgot about Whiplash. What a film

It was fucking boring. Never mind the subtext.

The best film I've seen from 2015 so far is comfortably The Martian with the worst being Mad Max.

Yevrah
19-12-2015, 08:23 PM
Having checked IMDB I'd forgotten about one film worse than Mad Max.

The Martian 9
Black Mass 7
San Andreas 6
Spectre 6
Maggie 6
Home Sweet Hell 6
Ex Machina 6
The Gift 5
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation 5
Knock Knock 5
Man Up 5
Jurassic World 5
Terminator Genisys 5
Focus 5
The Boy Next Door 5
Spy 3
The Marine 4: Moving Target 3
Mad Max: Fury Road 3
Fifty Shades of Grey 3
The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) 2

Makes me realise I haven't seen that much from 2015.

SvN
19-12-2015, 08:26 PM
The Gift, 5? Ex Machina, 6? I can forgive Mad Max as it appears to polarise people, but those two strike me as odd scores. Who'd have imagined people have different tastes?

Yevrah
19-12-2015, 08:28 PM
The Gift's alright, but ultimately not much more than a good one off BBC drama, the premise is telegraphed a mile off as well.

Ex Machina's just a rehash (albeit done well) of 90s sci-fi like the Outer Limits.

Mellberg
19-12-2015, 08:40 PM
San Andreas was the best put your brain on hold action film I've seen in years. Because it's been a shit year, I'd be tempted to go with that (haven't seen The Martian).

There's not enough ridiculous action these days. I'd much rather see Nicholas Cage and John Travolta swap faces than Spiderman trying to destroy Mordor or whatever.

John
19-12-2015, 08:47 PM
It's got a bit of a feminist subtext which has been divisive with some people.

I forgot about Whiplash. What a film

It's a bit sneaky to imply people are only being turned off by feminism. It's boring, one-note action fluff. There's barely enough there to support a subtext.

Kermode was right about what's being perceived as the subtext aswell, for what it's worth. For a 'feminist' film, the camera doesn't half leer at those poor girls in their pants.

Inside Out is the best film I've seen this year. Ex Machina was brilliant, and there's no doubt a few others I'm forgetting, but I have a feeling the rest of my top five will be made up of things I'll be watching over the next few days.

Nothing sneaky about it, its just the biggest complaint I've heard.

Mazuuurk
20-12-2015, 11:42 AM
Haven't seen many films this year (not that I ever watch many).

The ones I've seen are:

Spectre (awesome)
Jurassic World (pretty good)
Avengers Age of Ultron (didn't watch it until end, but was OK up until then)
50 shades of grey (some chinese censored version) (terrible)
Ex Machina (was OK, a little slow + points for having a swedish actress)
It follows (wasn't very good, but decent job with no budget I guess)

Yeah, hmm I think those are all the new films I've seen this year.
Soo, Spectre, I guess.

John
20-12-2015, 11:45 AM
Nothing sneaky about it, its just the biggest complaint I've heard.

How has that complaint been presented? People just moaning that there's too many women in it, or have people genuinely been telling you there's too much feminism and fuck feminism?

Spammer
20-12-2015, 12:07 PM
It was just a throwaway post :sorry:. Does it matter?

John
20-12-2015, 12:51 PM
If you're going to claim that people are largely disliking the film because feminism the reasoning for it does matter a little, yes.

That said, I'm actually just curious. It seems odd that anyone smart enough to read a subtext would be upset by an apparently feminist one.

Boydy
20-12-2015, 01:11 PM
There was loads of backlash going around the internet for it supposedly ruining the old films with its SJW AGENDA or whatever the men's rights activists thought.

John
20-12-2015, 02:16 PM
The dream team rides again.

Hammer, I gave you the credit of assuming you weren't citing men's rights twats. Was I wrong to do so? Outside of agenda driven wankers I can't see anyone hating the film on the grounds of feminism or whatever, so I was genuinely interested that you seemed to have actually heard that complaint. If you were just parroting internet froth then carry on.

Fucking hell, it's a nightmare dealing with people this precious.

21-12-2015, 10:09 PM
Spectre 7
Stars Wars: Force Awakens 9
Ex Machina 8
Jurassic World 6
Hunger Games: Catching Fire pt 2 3

Fuck. My shortest list of all time I should imagine. I've watched a heck of a lot of films, but the above is the limits of those from the past year. Desperate to see The Martian, Straight Outta Compton, Brooklyn and Sicaria.

Been a bit shit at going to the cinema this year. Must try harder.

Wait, Wild Tales was this year? That makes the decision incredibly easy.

I forgot about that. What a film.

Looking forward to Anomalisa when it comes out. I also wonder if Star Wars will get any love, it was bloody good within the context of the whole series but I'm not sure you can really make a judgment without that context.
