In a weird turn of events, he's just been named the new manager of Valencia.

Magic
02-12-2015, 12:04 PM
Ok genuinely wasn't expecting that.

SvN
02-12-2015, 12:05 PM
With Phil as assistant, presumably.

That's a big surprise. What happens to his England and Sky Sports commitments?

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 12:06 PM
His post playing career to date suggests that saying no is possibly something he needs to do more of.

CJay
02-12-2015, 12:07 PM
Bizarre.

I'm guessing this is all to do with Peter Lim?

Davgooner
02-12-2015, 12:09 PM
That's fucking mental.

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 12:10 PM
Valencia also changing their colours to red and taking on David May in a boardroom role apparently.

Lewis
02-12-2015, 12:11 PM
Dodginess aside (that's my Salford question partly-answered), I hope he is actually a good manager.

John Arne
02-12-2015, 12:27 PM
Who is going to look after Salford?

Magic
02-12-2015, 12:29 PM
Who is going to look after Salford?

He'll be managing his commitments via Skype.

Sir Andy Mahowry
02-12-2015, 12:34 PM
With Phil as assistant, presumably.

That's a big surprise. What happens to his England and Sky Sports commitments?

Staying with England, leaving Sky Sports.

Lee
02-12-2015, 12:36 PM
Poor Phil, can't even get the chance to prove he can manage better than Gary.

Ian
02-12-2015, 12:38 PM
Ah well, no need to watch Monday Night Football any more.

Kikó
02-12-2015, 12:42 PM
Peter Lim and Class of 92 dynasty continues...

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 12:57 PM
They'll need a new Manchester United person on Sky now. How dreary. How's Andy Cole fixed?

Kikó
02-12-2015, 12:58 PM
His kidney isn't working but he might be able to give a soundbite.

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 01:03 PM
It'll have to be the always entertaining Peter Schmeichel then.

Lewis
02-12-2015, 01:05 PM
He suddenly became a half-decent pundit the other day during that Leicester match. It was mildly unsettling.

Giggles
02-12-2015, 01:08 PM
Didn't see that one coming. Does he even have badges or do you need them in Spain?

Kikó
02-12-2015, 01:19 PM
He has the badges. He's a fully qualified coach who has been coaching England for two years.

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 01:21 PM
Is the United job his endgame?

Kikó
02-12-2015, 01:24 PM
Undoubtedly.

John Arne
02-12-2015, 01:35 PM
It's a big decision this. If he fucks it up big time, it's going to quite hard returning to Sky and giving it large in his tactics studio.

Fair play to him. I'm intrigued.

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 01:46 PM
Valencia is actually a shit job to go to. Third is unattainable, and yet anything less than fourth will be seen as a failure.

John Arne
02-12-2015, 01:48 PM
Phil must be fuming :D

Finally gets a big opportunity and his fucking brother turns up again. I really hope that Lim didn't tell Phil beforehand.

Giggles
02-12-2015, 01:52 PM
Never knew he was in the England setup.

Very interesting appointment. I'd be a bit gutted if I was Phil, but he's not done badly for himself either.

The Barcelona game is on telly Saturday evening. Gary won't be in charge yet but it might be a good game anyway.

Giggles
02-12-2015, 02:49 PM
Jesus, I've only just copped the Phil references. Never knew he was there :D

niko_cee
02-12-2015, 03:27 PM
Scholes will step into the Neville role, or maybe they could get Moyesy.

That's actually very good.

Jimmy Floyd

Bit snide towards Pegguy.

Lewis
02-12-2015, 04:53 PM
Does this make 'Carra' the main man on Sky, or will Thierry Henry be given the controls and a greater freedom to bore everyone?

Reg
02-12-2015, 05:25 PM
I'd rather they stole one of the BBC's to join Carragher, rather than promoting Henry or Souness or somebody.

Danny Murphy might be the most suited to rambling away for hours on MNF.

Chrissy

This is a rather mental move. Peter Lim obviously flexing his muscles.

Manc
02-12-2015, 05:43 PM
David paving the way.

I just had a quick glance at their first eleven in the last game to find a team of nobodies. Eek.

Yevrah
02-12-2015, 07:05 PM
What's the Peter Lim connection?

And fair play to Gary for leaving the comfort of the studio, but as John Arne said, if it goes wrong...

John
02-12-2015, 07:15 PM
Lim is involved with Salford City and has a stake in that hotel they've given over to tramps.

Yevrah
02-12-2015, 07:26 PM
And Lim and Valencia?

In fact, who the fuck is he?

Raoul Duke
02-12-2015, 07:29 PM
Mendes is involved too so it'll be dodgy as fuck all over the shop.

John
02-12-2015, 07:29 PM
He owns Valencia.

Kikó
02-12-2015, 07:53 PM
Neville to finish his coaching badges and take over at the end of the year meanwhile brother Gary takes over England.

Davgooner
02-12-2015, 08:00 PM
Gary to be back dominating 'MNF' in September.

He hit the post in Harper's testimonial. One of only two highlights in the game. The other being Tino's overhead kick which never came back.

I can't understand why you'd go into management when you have a cushy media job. You've done the stressful thing, now live the easy life until you retire. Do it long enough and you can climb the media ladder too, so it's not like there's no opportunity for advancement.

Jimmy Floyd
02-12-2015, 11:03 PM
Nev and the '92 are after a legacy though. It's like a much more corporate version of what the great 80s Liverpool players did throughout the 90s. Like then, though, it's been accompanied by their old team somewhat losing the hegemony that brought them that status.

SvN

Perhaps he just wants to see if he can cut it as a manager.

Perhaps he just wants to see if he can cut it as a manager.

Don't throw common sense into the debate like that.

No! Class of 92 drivel is always the reason.

Reg

You're a bit obsessed with them, Jim.

You can tell Neville is ambitious. He'd be kicking himself if he didn't take a shot at reaching the very top.

Kikó
02-12-2015, 11:30 PM
Like I said, he fancies the united job one day. He's a hard working person who wants to achieve and not just be a pundit. Fair play to him.

He's like a dog with a bone about them. Was embarrassing the night Salford were on TV in that cup game.

Compared to your Liverpool obsession, it's hardly worth getting worked up about.
