Deulofeu and Lukaku are absolutely sensational together.

Weaver
01-12-2015, 08:33 PM
Lots of credit to Martinez for that - Lukaku looked shite/disinterested for stretches last season, and he's got a front three of Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley running themselves ragged for THE CAUSE.

Keep forgetting Lukaku is only 22. Has already racked up plenty of goals. May well look as flabby and sick as Rooney at 30 but still plenty of time to achieve loads in the game.

Tuesday brought confirmation of an injury to defender Jamaal Lascelles, which has prompted United to recall Mike Williamson from his loan spell at Wolves.

Giggles has exploded somewhere again. It's really fun watching us away from home at the minute. Teams just don't see, to have a clue what to do against us. I'm sure that will change be interesting to see what he does then.

His first was actually a shot by Moreno which went in off him, I think. His second was amazing though. And his third was pretty decent.

The highlights have us looking like Brazil, was it really that good or were we just bizarrely clinical?

Andy
03-12-2015, 07:06 AM
Seven shots and six goals. Fair play to Liverpool we where only Fonte away from full strength and they where missing a fair few.

Felt like Koeman pissed that match away though, the right back was awful and whenever we got 1v1 against him we looked dangerous. We really should have flooded that area and got Pelle to float over onto him. Instead we moved to some ridiculous three at the back FIFA formation with our only good defensive midfielder in the back three and left the right back alone. A back three against two strikers has worked for us in the past but there was just no thought in how the team in front set up and without Wanyama in there Lallana tore us apart.

For all his good work Koeman does have the odd moment of madness.

Liverpool where very good though, Moreno and Can both stood out and all the goal scorers took their goals well.

Proper Batigol'd that 'second' one.

Ibe's goal was ridiculous as well. I assume training under Klopp is all high intensity shuttle runs and back heels played out to a pumping Rammstein soundtrack.

Arsenal won't finish fifth.

I think this is part of THE CYCLE™ as well, isn't it. Every year Arsenal get their fake title challenge on and then completely apple crumble when their squad collectively decides to get injured. Then everybody says that they won't finish fourth and that Wenger is on his way before they put together a run of form when it's barely significant, comfortably secure fourth and we start all over again in the summer.

They've really missed a trick this year by not signing some outfield players. No team looks like it could run away with it.

Jimmy Floyd

The 40 team World Cup sounds fun.

Erm, let's go eight groups of five, shall we? Or ten groups of four. Yes, ten groups of four. The top two in each go to the decafinals, where two more knockout rounds occur. The five remaining teams are then joined by three 'lucky losers' determined by auction for the quarter-finals.

Maybe not. Anyone?

This is a load of proper over reaction. They're two points off the top. I never expected a massive TITLTE CHALLENGE but just to be in the area come March. Both games have had a stupid goal conceded right after scoring. It's hardly the end of the world.

It's actually a terrible number. 8x5 would lead you straight down the West Germany v Austria cul-de-sac, whilst 10x4 would need you either needing 'the best six runners up' which is farcical, or a knockout round of 32?

Ridiculous.

It's a silly number; 32 is about right. If it's going to happen it has to be right groups of five. Hopefully they limit Europe and South America to one extra place each so we can at least see a bit of variety.

Reading and QPR played in the Championship tonight, and the latter pinched it 1-0 in the 89th minute.

The news coming out of it though is that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is going to be named their new gaffer tomorrow, according to Sky.

Good move by QPR, better than Warnock by a mile.

Taken from Euro 2004. What a team that was (on paper), David James aside every other player in that picture would walk into the current England side.

Really should have done better.

Mellberg
04-12-2015, 12:49 AM
1990, 1996, 1998 (not so much - strong field), 2004 and 2006.

All told, we probably should've won one of those. We're out the running for a while now, barring a miracle.

Lewis
04-12-2015, 01:02 AM
I still think Euro 2008 would have been our best chance 'on paper' since everybody was fit and in form (all of the other 'Golden Generation' tournaments had a major injury or suspension to deal with). Obviously we would have needed somebody to make it work properly, but the players were definitely there.

SvN
04-12-2015, 01:06 AM
Beckham was past it by 2008. Scholes was retired. Owen was shit. We didn't have a good enough keeper.

2004 was the year. On paper that's the best team we've had in my lifetime.

SvN
04-12-2015, 01:09 AM
In fact, I'd say we were worse in 2008 than we are now. Maybe it was the useless management, but looking at the teams we were fielding that year is painful. Look at the state of the team that played Croatia

Carson
Richards
Campbell
Lescott
Bridge
Wright-Phillips
Gerrard
Barry
Lampard
Joe Cole
Crouch

Fuck me. No wonder we didn't qualify.

Lewis
04-12-2015, 01:21 AM
By the time the actual tournament was on we would have had FA Cup-winning David James (better than the 2004 version), an all-Champions' League final defence, Joe Cole at his peak, Owen Hargreaves with working body parts, WORLD CLASS Lampard 'n' Gerrard, and Rooney. In terms of a potentially balanced side if set up properly by a good manager, that was our best group.

Spoonsky
04-12-2015, 01:45 AM
I would love for England to win it in France, on the back of Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane. That would probably be the best result possible.

Campbell would still be in the side and captain right now if not for RACISM.

You'd take the back four from that side above every day of the week; the rest not so much. All good players but never worked for England. The current mob has more about it and actually look cohesive whoever turns out.

Jimmy Floyd
04-12-2015, 09:05 AM
There's nothing decent coming through in English football now. Anything good gets swallowed up by a big club too early for homegrown CL reasons. Our underage teams are packed with people called Isaac Delano-Stevens who disappear off the radar at the first hint of a decent contract.

I can't see us challenging at a tournament in anything resembling the current era.

Davgooner
