I was about to call it the Steam sale thread after the old one but with the likes of GOG, GMG, etc. that was a bit restrictive.

Still, it's Steam which shall be kicking us off as Warner Brothers have got a sale on on Steam.

Highlights:

Shadow of Mordor - £12
Arkhams Asylum, City and Origins - £3.74 each
Bastion - £2.74
Lego Marvel - £3.74
Lego Batman + 2 - £3.74
A load of other Lego games - various reductions

Plus others which I don't give a shit about.

The current Humble Bundle is terribly tempting and has a little over 10 hours left

https://www.humblebundle.com/

Basically a whole host of Total War game for about a tenner. Despite owning all of them already I'm sorely tempted to get it for Rome 2 alone.

I picked up Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie on the DS for £4.99. I was a big fan of Dragon Warrior Monsters on the GBC and I love RPGs so I couldn't not pick it up.

I don't think we've got a thread for Steam's sales, do we?

They've got a Halloween one on now, mostly featuring 'scary' games.

I'm pretty tempted by Dead State and Neo Scavenger. Anyone played these?

One here: http://www.thethirdhalf.co.uk/showthread.php?58-The-bargains-thread

I didn't call it the Steam thread because there's so much going on with Humble, GOG and various other games sites. Maybe for searching purposes I should have put Steam in the title but it won't let me edit it. :moop:

I played a bit of the Neo Scavenger demo and enjoyed it, I'd also quite like Dyling Light which is half price to £20 in that. But given I've just spent a chunk on Far Cry 4 and Rocket League I'd probably better kerb my spending until the Christmas sale.

Ah, yeah, so there is. If a mod could move this into that thread please, that'd be great. Thank you.

I posted a link for you the other day to CD Keys where Dying Light was only £12.99.

if you haven't got it yet - Crusader Kings II is £5.99 for the basic game, and £25 for the "Collection". Just don't be fooled, the Collection isn't 100% of the DLC. Asshats.

Is there anything else good in the sale? Not that I need more games, but I've been pretty underwhelmed by what's wandered across the featured and top selling lists.

Ian

Crypt of the Necrodancer is meant to be very good in spite of/because of its strange rhythm-action-rogue-lite style. Gunpoint is well worth £3 if you don't have it already, Broforce looks ace as well.

Haven't dug through the whole list though.

Broforce gets boring very fast and then is over. Unless you've got mates willing to couch co-op it, don't bother.

If you haven't got them then;

Bioshock Triplepack is a fiver.
Payday2 under a fiver.
Stalker games less than a fiver (Triplepack bundled for a tenner)
Dragonfall £3
Hotline Miami £2
Divinity Triplepack £4

Otherwise most major named brands are 10 to 30% off at most.

If you're buying Payday 2 (everyone fucking should it's great), then buy the GOTY edition which comes with most of the DLC for £7.49.

Some caching issue, apparently, but Valve reckon nobody's steam wallets or details were rifled through though they are recommending a password change to be on the safe side (though you can't view a password so unless they think somebody has had at the database, which they claim they haven't, what would be the point?)

Disco
23-06-2016, 09:53 PM
The issue with key marketplaces is that people use stolen credit cards to buy keys then sell them on these sites, obviously this means they aren't terribly scrupulous plus when the fraud is discovered the money is often dragged back from developers. If you're going to use them then try and take advantage of any 'insurance' that places like G2A employ which guarantees your purchase for a few extra pennies. If you don't (like I didn't last time) they will not give a shit if they sell you a key that's already been used.

I need to go back to it because I decided to do the optional dungeon grind bit in one long slog rather than a level at a time and got sick of it. I've played nearly 30 hours though and it's very, very good.

Almost all of my wishlist was on sale last weekend. Only thing I bought was Armello, a board game with cards and dice and a small RPG scale (stats, equipment, followers (party)). The RNG is similar to Blood Bowl, which is a game I absolutely love (as some might know on here). There are tactics and strategies you can think of, but with this much RNG in a game, you have to be flexible.

Simply loving it. 4 win conditions, which I all achieved albeit I had to take quite the effort for the Spirit and Rot victory. Kingslayer and Prestige are the easier ones to accomplish. I also love all the characters you can play as and while some might suit a certain victory more, they all can achieve all victories.

Quite happy with my only purchase. :D
That happy that I took up Blood Bowl again as well. :D

Edit: And did I mention that it's gorgeous? No I didn't. It's gorgeous.

LOTR: Shadow of Batman's Creed is one of the few games of that sort where I'd recommend battering through the early stages of the story first. Basically until you get to the mind control stuff (whatever it's called.)

Yeah, it seems to be on every other game on Steam. I'm not even entirely sure what it means. Is it just procedurally generated levels and perma-death?

Any or all of perma-death, randomness, procedural generation, turn-based combat, ways the games mechanics interact with each other.

Much in the same way that anything where you can level-up is now described as having RPG features.

wullie
27-06-2017, 08:02 AM
Turn-based combat is an instant no-go for me. I loved Final Fantasy 8 but part of me died whenever it would cut away to a battle screen, so the closest I get to RPG territory is Zelda.

Ian
27-06-2017, 09:15 AM
I think my favourite proper roguelike is still ZangbandTK once I got the hang of it and the turn-based combat (which didn't cut away, the whole thing was basically turn-based) could really drive home a desperate situation. I had one save where I was trying to farm lgiant lice for XP. Basically giant lice multiply non-stop if you don't kill them fast enough but you can abuse this if you bottleneck them so they only come at you one at a time which I did.... only to then realise I couldn't close the door on them again once I stopped and they'd pour out and fill the entire level. Too weak to kill me because I'd taken a bunch of levels from murdering them but I'd be physically unable to move through them if they surrounded me.

So I'm desperately looking at the map to see if I can get to an exit before they swarm me, seeing if I had any abilities that could help at all.... the last resort I had was an unidentified wand that might chuck a giant fireball and obliterate a load of them or might randomly turn one of them into something even more unpleasant. Tried it. It teleported me right into the middle of the room I'd trapped them in. :D

Man I love that bastard of a game.

Disco

Dead Cells is actually kind of ruined by it's rougelikeishness.

Each run unlocks blueprints and if you complete a level while carrying a blueprint, that weapon/skill will be possible to unlock for every next round. The problem being that the opening Weapons/Skills are so much better than the gimmicky stuff you get later that you're actually hamstrung by unlocking items rather than unlocking cool shit.
