Dirty pizza > poncy pizza

Team Ponce on this one. If you want to eat thick sliced bread with a heart attack on it, just put a McDonald's on some Hovis. The sort of pizza you're all on about should be renamed American Wankbread.

Doesn’t need to be a heart attack, it just needs to be more edible than floured aeroboard that’s only been half covered. That fucking cotton mouth feeling from the excessive flour

I would have thought the fact that there can be vast differences in quality between things of the same basic style was a fairly well established concept.

Good Italian pizzas aren't horribly floury.

I’m proud to be on Team Ponce with Jimmy. A thick doughy crust with 2 inches of shit on top is fine, and I’ll eat it happily (because pizza is delicious), just not my favourite.

It’s unfortunate you had something that was over-floured and under-seasoned, Giggles. Done right the base/topping balance is usually great.

I’ll eat anything so long as they’re nice. Denny vegetarian sausages and Eden burgers are two I buy regularly for both shelf life and safe rehearing purposes. Both are definitely nice enough to eat in a world of vile vegetarian things. Clonakilty vegetarian white pudding is also epic and close enough to their real white pudding that you’d hardly know the difference.
I’d normally put strips of smoked (real) rashers in my pasta too but I had 3 veg sausages to use up so there was no need.

Not sure if they have them here though I think I’ve seen their regular sausages for sale so they might be. The local tesco has a fairly big section.
The denny ones are the best I’ve found (quoin - not too bad to eat but nothing like a sausage, Linda Mc - absolutely disgusting), they’re a bit odd and you’d know if they were with a fry but chopped up into something like pasta and someone would easily think they’re just a different brand of meat one.

London chippies were universally wank, in my experience. Even the ones that were 'meant to be good' (there was one on Kingsland Road - Faulkners?) were dross. I saw one around Hammersmith whilst I was there over Christmas that looked to be 're-inventing the chippie' and then I think I spied another of the same name in the O2 so I guess it was probably part of some dreadful chain. Looked rubbish. I think the problem is that the focus is always on the fish in the fancier places (and all chip shops outside of the UK - I'm looking at you Australia) when it is actually the humble chip you have to nail to be a top chippie. The battered things are pretty easy generally.

Tbf I had the best fish and chips I've ever had from some shoddy stand on a pier in Tasmania, and reflecting on it, it was because they got this right. The fish was good (because presumably it was plucked out of the sea about 20 minutes before I had it), but the chips were magnificent. The chips make the difference.

Referring to a (weber) BBQ as 'a weber' is worse than any fuel based snobbery. Gas is fine. Call it a cook out if you have to be an absolute wanker about it. Coal is good fun (and better), but it's a massive faff and most people are fucking shit at it, so any benefits are completely offset by the fact that you usually either eat 3 hours later than planned or everything is incinerated.

You just need to keep your gas bbq in a state of sufficient disrepair/uncleanliness and then there's smoke aplenty. I suppose you could biff some wood chip in if you were a mentalist.

I'm not really sure cooking food outside on a grill, however you power it, is really barbecuing in the full dickhead sense of the term, but that's what it is. Cooking outside, preferably in the sun, not in some smoke filled contraption you've named after your 3rd ex-wife or Vietnam platoon commander.

I’d never eat haggis but to be honest the way Adamski has it is the way I’d want it. Cut thin and crispy. A bit like liver in a northy Chinese.

I’m sure you’re just being deliberately obtuse but I should clarify it has peppercorn sauce on it (and you can barely see the actual haggis)

I mean it doesn't look like great peppercorn sauce either, but you've turned it around there.

Poutine is just ruined chips and gravy.

This has inspired me to do Chips,Cheese,Gravy but with Haloumi

I'd knock the Haggis on the head but Peppercorn sauce dirty fries is a DUB.

Giggles, I made the porridge bread with a big spoon of Marmite in. It's spectacular.

That does look amazing.

Looks like they’re using actual cheese curds as well, which is a welcome touch of authenticity.

Poutine is second only to kebabs as the best post-drink food.

Never been a fan of plantain (unless it's a crisp) though.

This (https://gasmarkfive.com/2015/07/04/one-pot-mushroom-and-bay-biryani/) mushroom biryani is proper. Dead easy and full of flavour. Serve it with pomegranate seeds on top and a load of yoghurt on the side.

It's from this (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Modern-Way-Cook-Anna-Jones/dp/0008124493) book, which is excellent in spite of its shit title. Everything's well thought out and pretty straightforward. I think everything I've made from it has been good/great. Strong rec.

I only found out today that the UK has moved the bank holiday to Friday to coincide with VE Day.

Moving the holiday for international workers day for a festival of petty jingoism. What a shithole.

The place near me which does the salt and chilli chicken / chips "spicy bag", easily my favourite takeaway, is still closed. :(
