View Full Version : Things you are actually happy about

For things that aren't quite "life's little pleasures" yet wouldn't fit in another thread either. I may be a hypocrite and this is the most redundant thread of all time but I figure it's worth a shot.

Since I've been taking pictures on film I got my rolls of film developed at a nearby supermarket, which for some reason did an extremely good job for a very, very reasonable price. This was very lucky for me, it's quite an anomaly that such a good lab would even exist in a random store in Salt Lake City. But at the start of October the lab inevitably closed down. Searching the internet (and it turns out that looking for film processing on the internet leads you to a 90s web design hell (http://www.rapidphoto.net/)) I began to realize just what a good deal they had been, every other place I found in the country was either much more expensive or scanned the pictures at a much lower resolution. Desperate, I began to look abroad, and eventually found a place that seemed to offer the equivalent in terms of price and resolution...

...in Burnley. With the most lol website ever. (http://www.photofilmprocessing.co.uk/index.html) So I mailed them six rolls of film a fortnight ago and, what do you, I downloaded the results from their website and they're just as good (http://imgur.com/a/QSNL0) as the old place. What scenes.

So... what are you happy about at the moment?

Just saw a baby born. Was pretty cool.

So you're taking pictures in film but then getting them digitalized? Either go full ponce or not.

The Walgreens nearby develops film as does the 'independent photography shop.'

Did you get hard?

Did you get down the business end when your wife gave birth?

Magic

No, but some potential hot MILF? Now then...

Well if you have another kid - actually to anyone on here, if your wife/girlfriend has a kid - don't look down there. Just don't.

I was too busy thinking about the hot midwives tribbing. There was nothing clinical about the room we were in with the birthing pool, it was relaxed as fuck. Awesome.

Yeah most people I've spoken to who had a water birth are really positive about it.

It's definitely a privilege, they advised us if even they get a sniff of something potentially not right you're straight out in to the actual ward itself, which was in a different building to this.

Got my second monitor working again. Dual screen action

Using one monitor now makes me claustrophobic.

I dont know how people work with one monitor. At home fucking about on TTH etc I can do it but if I have to even think about working I need a second monitor.

Wouldn't even know the advantages of how to set up two screens. Does the mouse go across both?

Do water births and home births and all that shite cost Our NHS more money? If so they should stop doing them.

I'm happy about nothing at the minute. My entire life is bollocks.

Magic

Home ones do iirc they've stopped sending out midwives? Water doesn't and it frees up a bed.

randomlegend

It's quite complicated, but home births are meant to be cheaper overall I believe. I can't imagine water births really cost much more than a normal hospital birth to be honest - might even be cheaper as well, due to lower analgesic requirements and stuff.

Is the image upside down? It's the right way up for me...

It's making great use of the chromecast. Normally the smaller tv is in my bedroom.

'Not a GP' is about as far as I've got.

I really enjoyed our neurology module, but it seems it would be a bit depressing long term since it's mostly progressive diseases and your patients only get worse. Ophthalmology (eye medicine/surgery) was great too, that's something I could see myself doing.

I've always thought tropical medicine would be cool, I find parasites very interesting in particular. We have to do an elective at the end of this year so I've arranged to go to the hospital of tropical disease in Bangkok for 4 weeks to see what I think of it. Obviously we don't get much experience of it otherwise on a UK medical degree.

So yeah, a few ideas but no decisions made.

Randrew, it's three years to the day since we met. I realised when my mother was wittering on about some comparatively trivial anniversary. What a day we had.

Yeah. To cure cancer (which I note hasn't happened yet). I want my two quid back.

No time for that. Film cameras are more fun and the pictures look nicer.

They probably don't. Though if it's the old time look you like I'd imagine there's an app for that.

Spoonsky
22-11-2015, 12:25 AM
They definitely do. Not as a rule, of course, but by and large film looks much better, less flat and more painterly. At least that's the opinion I've come to having spent far too many hours looking at photographs on the internet. If I just wanted an old-fashioned look I would stick to disposable cameras.

It is interesting to see the assumptions people on here make about it.
