Lads, a quick one.

Is there a way to get Microsoft Word, or some equivalent onto my laptop without me having to part with any money? I don't care about the latest version or anything like that and I'm a shit googler.

I haven't used Libre but Open Office is roughly equivalent to Word, you get some formatting issues occasionally when going between the two but on the whole it's pretty decent for freeware.

If you don't need any in-depth features, Google Drive isn't even that bad, especially if you need to share documents.
