The Miz was brilliant in their segment.

Him sliding out to the back and doing a little yes chant to get Rollins and Balor fighting was great.

It wouldn’t but Taker is old school and needs to go out on his back. Plus Cena seems to have lost the last 20 matches he has been in. Cena is winning it.

I can't remember anyone else who would try it, or be high up the WWE ladder enough to be able to do it.

It'd be interesting if he did come back as Biker Taker. I'd expect a Taker win and this leading to Cena moving on to proper part-timer mode.

Shindig
13-03-2018, 01:22 PM
The biggest problem with all of this is the impression I get with Taker not wanting out yet. The draw of a Wrestlemania bout is his potential, 100% definite retirement. Or they do something even stupider and build another streak.

Ian

Braun winning a tag battle royal on his own and WWE burying their entire tag division in one go is a bit lol but comfortably the best thing about it was super-careful WWE naming the new womens battle royale after Moolah, a genuinely horrible person. You'd have thought they'd quietly move away from talking about her.

Should have called it the Womandre Battle Royal.

Lewis
14-03-2018, 12:29 AM
The only way for Cena vs Undercarder to have a bit of uncertainty is to make it a retirement match. It's not inconceivable that the great man will want to have a proper full-time crack at Hollywood whilst still relatively young (it seems mental that The Rock is only five years older than him), so that would be a classic swerve; but even the more obvious result of 'Carder going out on his arse could be done well if they had him kick out of a million finishers and BAH GAWD REFUSE TO DIE, because then he could limp out with the lights on or something equally shit.

All part of Gedo's long term booking to create a number 2 in Suzuki Gun and get another foreigner over.

I can also see ZSJ challenging for the Never Open Weight loose carnt title. Ibushi tied up with the Golden Lovers and LIJ faction fued with Suzuki Gun gives 2 huge credible victories for ZSJ while not effecting Ibushi or Naito at all.

I feel like WWE had no idea why the Final Deletion worked in TNA. They just wanted one of their own and shat the bed with it.

1. Matt's gimmick was fresh and weird.
2. Jeff was playing it straight and the two could work well together.
3. Build. Not some, "Next week, this is happening." but actually stringing Matt's broken gimmick for weeks before building to the actual main course.
4. Context. TNA needed the Hardys on TV but they were away on the compound. So they filmed there and Matt got creative.
5. Even more context. TNA doing something like this looks desperate and new at the time. Like a last throw of the dice. WWE doing it just seems like a retread.
6. WWE tried to cash in on this before with the House of Horrors match.

So, yeah, what were people expecting?

wullie
21-03-2018, 09:12 AM
I'm amazed it was not only signed off for WWE TV but was the main event of a Raw leading up to WM, especially when they had Michael Cole all but apologise for it beforehand as if Vince was washing his hands of it all. On that basis and the fact it was pretty faithful to the original it was way better than what I was expecting (basically everything gimmicky that Bray Wyatt has ever been involved in)

Sir Andy Mahowry
21-03-2018, 02:11 PM

I thought the Bryan stuff was handled pretty much perfectly. You get to see him do a few things but you don't blow the catharsis load right off the bat. I really hope we get that Bryan / Miz feud somewhere down the line.

Meanwhile on Raw, Angle can barely fucking deliver even the most basic promo these days. Did he break himself that much? Or, given a once-excellent talker like Foley also frequently ballsed up his lines, do some of the guys off've the past just not deal with scripting? It's a sorry state of affairs either way and any enthusiasm I had for his return is long gone.

I have no idea why they are pretending that it is included for Asuka's streak and should Miz get pinned then it's over.

They've never included any tag losses in which she wasn't pinned/tapped so it's fucking annoying. I hate the flip flopping they do all the fucking time.

I'm fine with it counting against the streak should it be a singles match or Asuka herself gets pinned/submitted but in a tag match in which Miz is pinned/submitted goes against the streak? That's bullshit.

She's lost tag matches where she wasn't pinned and they didn't count so why have they decided to add that stipulation for the MMC? It just makes it staler as you know Miz/Asuka have to win when Bliss/Boatman should have won.

Decided to watch last years Survivor Series as it's been mentioned quite a bit since Rousey signed.

The main event was pretty shit (but it did make me love Boatman even more, what a man) but all the others were pretty damn good.

Shield vs New Day and Bork against AJ were the clear standouts. It was a bit strange seeing Bork semi-motivated about a match.

Ian
26-03-2018, 09:25 PM
I called the finish sequence to that match the moment it was announced. To the point that despite being sick of Brock and hoping they'd find a reason to have AJ win I was genuinely annoyed when I thought the F5 wasn't going to be a reversal of the forearm.

Young Bucks / Golden Lovers was fucking mental, it was always going to be pretty spot heavy but there was also a huge amount of story going on. Good show overall too, Okada & Ishii vs Suzuki & ZSJ set up their match really nicely, the 8-man tag with LIJ was crazy and for a 53 year old man Liger can still do it when he needs to. Ridiculous stat of the evening; when Will Ospreay was born Liger had been wrestling professionally for 9 years. Low points were the US title match which the crowd just never really got into and the terrible commentary, JR was ok but clearly not the most knowledgeable about the wrestlers and Josh Barnett was just awful.

The main event though, fucking hell. Check it out if you can find it anywhere.

Ronda Rousey's makeup was ludicrous. The red bit made it look like she has some sort of eye disease.

The way Baroque Les-nar is ironing Roman Reigns out every week is only making the outcome of their match even more certain, but the match itself might have been alright had they built Reigns back up a bit beforehand. That way they could have gone back and forth for fifteen minutes and built some genuine uncertainty. They might even have been able to get some positive reactions for him (maybe not). With this build-up though you can guarantee that it will be ten minutes of suplexes and sweating before some bullshit comeback from nothing.

Ian
27-03-2018, 11:37 PM
I assume unless the Undertaker reclaims ownership of the yard prior to Mania then he's run out of time to do so, legally speaking, and thus the land dispute will be settled simultaneously with the Universal championship. Taker does need to fuck off because this repeat cycle of making one poor bastard after feud themselves for the honour of facing him is such a snooze.

More importantly, whether it was his fault or Kane's, that chokeslam from Cena was properly crap.

Did like Miz TV, though. Can't make up my mind who'll be winning that one.

In other news, apparently Shane McMahon is in hospital with something nasty that will require medication and then at some point an operation which doesn't sound like he'll be good to go at Mania. I wonder who they have partner Bryan now?

As for the Undertaker, he's the final remaining link to the 92 Royal Rumble, which was the first event I ever watched. I think there are some good matches on the card but the build for most of it has been typically dreadful which undermines it.

Balor vs. Rollins and the Smackdown tag match were both really good though.

I think the match I'm most intrigued about the result is Bryan's, given the stipulation. Is it a way of moving Zayn and Owens to Raw or is Shane going to shaft him because SHOCK TWIST NONSENSICAL HEEL TURN?

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns (WWE Universal Championship) - Obviously.
AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE Championship) - If they can't see that Nakamura needs to win then they really have lost the plot.
Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon - Any other result would be even more inexplicable than the previous match.
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka (WWE Smackdown Women's Championship) - Has to be.
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn - Unless they decide to completely ignore the stipulation 5 minutes after the match (which is entirely possible)
The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor (WWE Intercontinental Championship) - Could go either way but Miz should go to Smackdown.
Randy Orton (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev (WWE United States Championship) - It should obviously be Rusev (the most popular man in the company) but if in doubt pick the blandest option available and did they ever pay Randy back for letting Baroque cave his head in?
The Bar (c) vs. Braun Strowman and unnamed partner (WWE Raw Tag Team Championships) - Presumably the only actual tag team in the match kind of has to win.
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax (WWE Raw Women's Championship) - Nia Jax is great, she should win something.
The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships) - Pot luck.

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns (WWE Universal Championship) - And hopefully it's the last we'll see of Brock for a long time too.

AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE Championship) - AJ got the upper hand on Smackdown and Nakamura needs the win after the build.

Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon - Even they're not stupid enough to have this go any other way unless it's part of a heel turn from somebody, and who wants to see Rousey siding with the Authority?

Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka (WWE Smackdown Women's Championship) - If Asuka doesn't win it's only because they have Carmella ape Rollins' cash-in. And I could sort of see the appeal of a month or two of Carmella chicken-shitting her way out of defeats from Asuka without compromising Asuka's streak.

Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn - This is the one on the card I'm least sure about. Having Bryan win would be the obvious, feel-good thing so maybe it makes more sense to NOT go with that given his previous trajectory. It'd also get somebody some nuclear heat on Sunday if they screw him over.

The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor (WWE Intercontinental Championship) - It won't be Rollins and while I think Miz deserves to win this I think they'll go down the O'Shango route.

Randy Orton (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev (WWE United States Championship) - I agree that it should be Rusev but I've got a horrible feeling they're going to put it on Jinder because he's obviously not going anywhere.

The Bar (c) vs. Braun Strowman and unnamed partner (WWE Raw Tag Team Championships) - Should be the Bar but if they're having somebody even vaguely interesting come in to partner Braun they're not going to make him or said partner look like a mug. I like Boatman but I don't want him farting about as a sort-of tag person when they have good tag teams that they're wasting but the only way I see him losing is 1) if they bring in somebody entertainingly terrible so they can both take the fall then get mullered by Strowman or b) if they're going to use it to set up a new Strowman feud after Mania.

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax (WWE Raw Women's Championship) - I've seen people saying it should be a squash because it'd be a good place to have a feel-good blowoff on a card that's going to end up being 47 hours long, but more importantly it reduces the chance of Jax actually smashing Bliss into bits.

The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships) - It's gonna be Bludgeon Brothers. Who should take the "BB" thing and become the new B-Squared, including having Bull Buchanan as their manager.

Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali (Cruiserweight Championship)

The Andre the Giant Battle Royal - Big returnee time. Big Cass comes back for the win.

Main Show:
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns (WWE Universal Championship) - This is the most obvious obvious in all of obvious. Reigns in his 4th straight main event at mania. Beyond Cena levels.
AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE Championship) - I don't think Vince gets Nakamura. Plus this would see AJ lose at Mania again. I'm not sure they'd do that to him unless he's going to RAW.
Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon - Celebrity attendees always win.
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka (WWE Smackdown Women's Championship) - Going for the big shout here. Asuka wins after her toughest match yet. Both are shattered afterwords and share a moment of respect. Cut to Carmella cashing in. Asuka beats her as well.
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn - McMahon heel turn because McMahon. KO and Zayn head to RAW even with the win.
The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor (WWE Intercontinental Championship) - Miz loses and this will be match of the night. Miz then moves to Smackdown soon after for a big title run.
Randy Orton (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev (WWE United States Championship) - They cant even put Rusevs body in the programme. Orton is best mate of HHH and way into Vinces good books. Orton wins.
The Bar (c) vs. Braun Strowman and unnamed partner (WWE Raw Tag Team Championships) - I think it'll be Elias and it'll be good to put a belt on him.
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax (WWE Raw Women's Championship) - Given the build up Nia has to win. The bullying and shaming in the build up all points to it. But the WWE don't give a fuck at times.
The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships) - New Day eat the pin, removes them from the title picture. Usos win in their first time on the actual card in 9 years.
Biker Taker v John Cena - I actually think we'll just get Cena doing a promo then Taker appears to beat him down. No match. But in case I'm wrong, Taker wins.

I've seen a few people predicting Carmella fluffing her cash-in but I'm not convinced they'll have the first ever women's briefcase holder (well, after Ellsworth) balls it up. Men's royale - I'd like Kane to win it just as he deserves a rumble/royale win but I think they'll give it to Ziggler.

Roman Reigns - Most obvious match on the card.

Angle/Rousey - Another clear one. They just need to hope Rousey doesn't look too shit.

Asuka - Only way she doesn't win is if Carmella does a Rollins and she pins Flair to keep the streak going too.

KO/Zayn - The one I debated the most about but I think they'll go with this route.

Miz - I want Finn to win but I think they'll either give Miz the record or let him get closer to it before dropping the belt.

Rusev - I want Roode to win as I liked his reign a lot but I don't think they can ignore Rusev's popularity.

Boatman/Pal - It probably shouldn't happen as it kills the tag division but I think that's what they will do and then change up the divisions in the draft. I can see Cass, Elias or Samoa Joe being the partner but I hope it's someone lol.

Nia Jax - I want Bliss to win so much but the way it has been promoted I can only see Female Viscera winning.

Bludgeon wankers - They've been hyped as unbeatable and I think that will continue. Usos will then go to Raw probably with The Bar going to SD.

Taker - If it happens he wins. I hope it doesn't though.

If Cena / Taker doesn't happen then they make him look like the elderly cunt in kayfabe that he actually is in real life. I can't imagine the match not happening.

What's the word on who's expected to win the NXT NA title? They likely to go down the presumably crowd-pleasing route of having Rick O'Shay win it?

Also is EC3 actually any good? If I saw any of his first time with the company in my run through the Network PPVs then I've forgotten it.

Sorry, I saw NXTNA and my brain almost split in half. EC3 is good on the mic these days but he's a proper roid charade at times.

I enjoyed that a lot. Moon / Baszler could have done with a few extra minutes I think but otherwise it was a really good show. The ladder match and the main event were the highlights. Loved Rick O'Shay's moonsault off the falling ladder.

I know they already have a tag team called Heavy Machinery but "War Raiders" is an enormously crap name to call War Machine. Is that really the best they could do?

What's wrong with the name "War Machine"?

Did Vince and Hunter not bother to trademark their team name the lazy twats?

Ian

What, trademark the name they probably didn't own prior to signing them? :cab:

As I said, I imagine the issue is that they already have a team called Heavy Machinery.

What time is the kickoff show tonight? I wanted to get tomorrow off work but I couldn’t so I probably won’t stay up for the whole thing, but I’ll try to stick it out for a bit

Network cuts away from the middle of match to advertise... the Network.

If people are watching this they're here for Wrestlemania, dickheads. Stop fucking off mid-match. Even if it's a shit match.

Two shit former winners & Matt Hardy. What a final three.

Hey guys, did you know John Cena's in the crowd? AS A FAN?!?!

Didn't really convey the same emotional gravity as HBK/Flair, despite it feeling like they basically just copied the finish, but it was an okay match I guess. I like Nigel McGuinness, you can tell he's done colour on the indies as he talks about the wrestlers lives & can name moves rather than just spouting whatever lines Vince feeds him.

Has Becky Lynch had an illustrious career so far?

Dan
08-04-2018, 10:31 PM
They probably had to melt down the Moolah one & that was all they could come up with on short notice.

Hang on, Becky gets an entrance & everyone else has to do the jobber walk?! Wonder who's going to win this one :D

EDIT: Nevermind, Bayley's popular enough to get an entrance too. I'm rooting for Dakota Kai, I have an Evie shirt about two feet away from me.

Not the most flattering shot of Paige in that teaser, but LOL at Dwayne getting to be The Rock again.
