Currently, the odds of impact sit at 2.4% (https://cneos.jpl.nasa.gov/sentry/details.html#?des=2024%20YR4). How are we feeling about it? Should we go into panic mode or is it all a ruse by BIG SPACE?

I'm sure I read about that 2032 one last week and the odds were much less than 2.5%.

Why are you like this.

The odds will keep changing between now and then, depending on its trajectory.

This has reminded me, I need to watch Armageddon again.

Good call, should do that too.

If NASA know their onions they'll redirect it to hit Guangzhou.

Most likely to hit India if it does indeed hit Earth. Carry on.

Statistically speaking, how many years away are we from a plant killer?

Manc

Well, he's 76, so not long, you'd imagine.

There is no known civilization-ending impact that has been identified. The timescales for those are in the millions of years, so we should be good.

When was the last one? 80 million years ago? Overdue!

What a wild time that'll be if humans are still around in the run up to when it lands (assuming we can't Bruce Willis it).

World starts going to shit as I start losing weight ffs.

Pepe

I think that if someone dangerous enough starts looming, we will be able to Bruce Willis the hell out of it.

Deep down I knew all the Bruce Willis gags would be gone when I started scrolling, but I'm still upset.

Unless someone comes up with a better version of a meteorite landing movie (almost impossible I fancy), the gags will still be there in 1,000 years time.

I remember someone at college saying Deep Impact was better and I still regret not punching him.

Deep Impact is still pretty good.

The halcyon days of apocalypse movies.

This is interest, and actually makes a lot of sense.

I rewatched Armageddon a few months ago. The explosions budget was clearly ringfenced.

Intergalactic banter if it piles into the Donbas.

Fucking hell imagine the smell if it dispersed India into the atmosphere. The entire planet going nose blind. Absolutely worth it still, but something to consider if you were absolutely desperate to find a downside.
