What we saying, TTH?

Currently going through the albums I've listened to this year and relistening to them so I can make somewhat of a sensible ranking. There's been some decent music but not sure about it being a stellar year.

I’ve only really listened to one cos I don’t listen to much music these days: Attempted Lover by Sueco

It’s okay but nowhere near as good as his first

It does feel like the after Covid cycle of album release has lead to this year being the year bands are still, or have just finished, touring their latest album release. I suspect 2025 will be a much better year for it.

Post Human: Nex Gen is the most memorable one for me. After it being in limbo due to the Fish leaving(and possibly gatekeeping the record), them randomly dropping it with about 10 hours notice on Spotify and Youtube was great.

Speaking of the Fish, him going off to work with other bands may well be a blessing in disguise here. His work on the recently released and very good Negative Spaces by Poppy, as well as some singles from Architects and up and comers House of Protection are all top notch, even if you can tell he's been involved.

I listen to almost exclusively “old” music but the Kendrick Lamar effort was excellent.

Everything Everything's Mountainhead is the only new thing that's hit me.

Don't know for sure, but Gloria Estefan's Mi Tierra must be up there.

Edit: wait, missed the 2024, lol. I haven't heard new music in over a decade, I think.

It's a little embarrassing but I don't have a better answer than Brat.

Cutouts by The Smile head and shoulders above the field this year for me.

Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future

Elliott Smith fans majorly bummed this but I had zero interest in it. Did you like it?

I’d second PH:NG - not really listened to Bring Me The Horizon much since the first couple of albums, but gave this one a listen & was pleasantly surprised.

Not had a huge amount of 2024 releases on my radar as I’m usually several years late on things, but of the ones from this year that did reach me I’d also throw out A Different Life by Cold Years, who supported Bayside earlier in the year.

This was the year my eldest discovered Car Play, meaning the only new album I really listened to this year was Taylor Swift.

I'm a huge Big Thief fan, but her solo stuff doesn't really do it for me. It's not bad - just not nearly as memorable (for me).

According to Spotify:

- Elbow - Audio Vertigo
- The Black Keys - Ohio Players
- Jack White - No Name
- Nick Cave - Wild God
- Iron & Wine - Light Verse
- Bon Iver - Sable

So mostly just new stuff from people I already listened to

It’s not the best but her first 2 or 3 albums are incredible, if you’re into pretty-voice-singing-over-a-guitar type music.

The Waxahatchee album is indeed excellent.

There are two songs on the recent Lenker album that I adore (Sadness as a gift and Free Treasure) but the rest gets a bit avant garde and try-hard rootsy for my tastes.

Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood.

Mk.gee - Two Star & the Dream Police a close second.
