Everton were doing reasonably well before the first points deduction, so they could easily seethe the next thirty years away blaming it for wrecking their form if this second round does it.

My neighbour is an Everton fan and previously had the corrupt premier league posters in his window until presumably his wife told him to take them down. Eagerly awaiting their return after today's news.

Sensational refereeing to tell the Nandos boy to fuck off because if the ref is a monghow and calls it, VAR will just show him contact and he sticks with his decision.

No matter what year it is, you'll always be greeted with a few faces you thought retired years ago, a couple of high profile premier league transfer flops, some guy who was a wonderkid in FM back in the day who's now 28 and a random West African player who's name you recognise because he spent a couple years at a upper tier Championship team.

I was just coming to say this is one of the greats of the genre of Goe Jomez being fucking useless.

He’s actually done ok the past few months but he’s been awful tonight. Where’s Bradley? We’ve looked much better the past couple of weeks with just two full backs bombing on.

That game really showed up Endo’s shortcomings as well. He’s actually been pretty good since September but if anyone presses him he gets caught too easily in possession and can’t play out of it.

You could see in the first half it needed someone to be brave at the base of midfield and play round their crazy man to man marking all over the pitch if you do that you can probably pull them to piece’s but he’s not the player to do that.

I love the current Blues arc. Having not remembered last time they sacked a perfectly good manager for having them in the playoffs but not playing sexy enough football they did it again. It seems Chelsea being desperate to comply with FFP have sold some hotels near the club ground, to the tune of £75m and have used this in their finances to attempt to balance the books with it.

Not only is that lol, but they sold it to essentially themselves.

niko_cee
13-04-2024, 10:12 PM
Of all the Chelsea football finance lolz, and after all is football finance not the most important part of the game, I particularly liked this one:

Players costing £592m were sold for £203m, although accounting rules mean that generated a profit of £63m.

:cab:

What?

Probably explains why the CEIS has City running at a 50m profit after ostensibly being down over a billion over ten years.

Gray Fox
13-04-2024, 10:21 PM
The players will have cost £592m over their total AMORTISATION, as you're allowed to spread the cost against FFP over the length of the contract. Sales you can choose to have do the same, or to have the full value of the sale count for that specific years figures. For example, sell Salah for £50m and have one year £50m up on sales, or £10m each year for 5 years.

They'll likely now need to sell off a couple of decent value transfers each year to balance the books. If say Gallagher and Chalobah are sold for £30m each this summer, for arguments sake, that's £60m to prop them up for another year.

They've chosen to do this way in the hope that all the early 20 year old signings they've made grow into a team that gets towards the top. It's supported with growth off the field but with a sale now and then. Probably a fringe or academy player who brings in tidy profit. A gamble. That's why Jim is right and Waff is wrong in terms of Chelsea managers. You have to give one a long term crack at getting the team doing what they want. Changing it every 6 months just has you more and more likely to see the gamble fail.

There'll likely be some headlines soon that they are in dire need of a fire sale, but I actually think they'll be fine. Unless of course the FFP bods decide the hotel sales are not to be included.

Noticed a stack of FREE sticker albums for the Euros in Morrisons so picked one up out of morbid curiosity. I didn’t bother buying any stickers. Based on what I’ve read in it, Topps seem very honoured to be doing their first Euro sticker book, but let’s just say I’m glad it was free.

So rather than wait and find out which teams qualify through the playoffs they’ve inexplicably included every posibility. So groups A to C are fine, with two-spread pages for the four qualified teams. But then Group D has the two-pager for Holland, Austria and France, plus then single pages full of stickers for Poland, Estonia, Wales and Finland. Group E and F does the same. Absolutely ridiculous.

So some kids are gonna be collecting players from Luxembourg, Israel and Wales and wondering why. The free album even comes with a Gareth Bale sticker. :harold:

Surely they could have waited?

Everyone points to this game, but the league was lost at home to Chelsea. Liverpool were in need of a decent GD swing so went all out attack 3-0 up at Palace to try and get it. Even had it been 3-0 they still wouldn't have won the league.

He was a lot better at keeping possession and starting passing moves at the start of the season. Hopefully it's just a blip in form, otherwise there's only really Mac Allister in central midfield to play passes with any kind of conviction and creativity.

Does it determine how hard your schedule is? I'm not really sure.

I'm only going under the assumption that the implementation in Football Manager is accurate mind you, but you get drawn against two teams of each pot and one of them is at home and the other one away, so seeding seems to have no meaningful impact once you are in the group stages.

Gray Fox
14-04-2024, 05:34 PM
Does it determine how hard your schedule is? I'm not really sure.

I believe you still have teams separated into 4 pots. You then get a home and away game from a random draw against each pot. You can get lucky and get the two easiest teams from each pot, or you could get the two hardest.

I actually think people will prefer the new format once they get used to it.

Went to the game today. I’ve always been not Pro Nunez but thought there was something that could be worked with this past week and seeing him in the flesh for the first time since before Christmas has 100% changed my mind. 4th/5th choice for chaos, he’s a decent option but he is not it and he is never going to be the man. he is literally an attack killer at the minute.

Far too safe these past two games, Gakpo was the only player who dribbled and took someone on today and when he did we consequently looked a bit more dangerous the rest of it was just shifting the ball left to right with no real plan of how to break them down once they scored.

The drop off from Mane, Salah and Firminio with Jota off the bench is massive now and that’s probably what costs the league more than anything else.

Not long got home from Pompey/Barnsley. What an amazing way to seal the league & a perfect encapsulation of what's made this season from all the others where we've fallen short.

Definitely wasn't our greatest performance, the nerves definitely seemed to have got to a few players as we were a bit sloppier than usual with our build up & gave the ball away cheaply a decent amount, but where typical Pompey teams would find themselves 2-1 down while playing below par & would've just struggled through the rest of the game without offering anything, this season we've been much more resilient & even when we've not been playing well we've managed to find a moment from somewhere that turns the tide.

Today that was Christian Saydee winning us an 83rd minute penalty that, I'll be honest, I'm not entirely convinced was legit, but Colby Bishop hit it hard enough to get it past their keeper, and when Connor Shaughnessy headed us in front from a corner shortly after that was me gone. Had a little cry in the stands whilst some fans did a Leverkusen & stormed the pitch before the game had ended. Hopefully we'll lift the trophy against Wigan on Saturday as I'm going to that one too, and fingers crossed I'll be able to get a season ticket next season as we got in early on the waiting list.

John Mousinho has done a fantastic job with the mental side of the team in particular - consistency & perseverance were two things that consistently let us down in the past but this year we avoided the typical slumps in form around new year & towards the end of the season, and as mentioned above, we've been much better at getting results from bad situations. He's also done a great job managing the squad in every way, utilising the depth for matchups, finding ways to get through numerous injuries, particularly in central midfield, and also with his use of substitutes, which was another thing that came through today as both Saydee & Bishop had come off the bench.

We'll definitely need some improvements to the squad for the Championship. Man-Will Neuer-ris is probably adequate in goal but we lack pace basically everywhere outfield, with CB & striker being two particular areas I'd hope we look at. I'd imagine Abu Kamara will be back at Norwich next year as he's elevated his game down the back half of the season after an inconsistent start, but it would be nice to have him & Alex Robertson back if possible as they both look like they should become good Championship players. It would also be great if nobody took Mousinho away, but hopefully Eric Eisner will open up the Disney warchest for him if it comes down to it.

Football, eh? It's pretty good sometimes.
