So supposedly the story of how Raygun got to the Olympics is basically the World Dance Sport Federation wanted Ballroom Dancing in, Olympic comittee said no, it's breaking. The problem is breaking doesnt have an organisation like the WDSF so they took over the selections process for it, and obviously didn't do a great job. In Australia that meant their national division decided only members of the WDSF could be selected to qualify, of which Raygun and her troupe were. The size of this dance troupe on the women's side is about 15 women, of which Raygun is a founding member. That was the Olympic decision making for Australia's breaking team and it's likely almost everyone involved in breaking who is any good at it in Australia didn't even know it was happening.

That looks a lot worse than the initial 'lol she's crap', more like Sepp Blatter picking himself to take pens in the Olympics.

The Australian entrant was absolutely ridiculously laughably terrible and seems to have been selected by virtue of knowing the right people rather than on any form of merit.

It's because they get paid $100,000 every time they break a world record. In most sports you can't choose to incrementally break the record, but by the nature of sports like pole vault if you get someone who is capable of going significantly above the current world record they can indeed choose to do so.
