Praise be, another tedious transfer window comes to a close. But not quite, we've still got a few more hours to go each slightly less thrilling than the last!

Meanwhile Southend's extended crisis continues as Ron Martin's wig is hoping, according to this (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12468275/WONDERS-PYRAMID-worst-run-club-land-33-days-extinction-PLUS-THREE-games-watch-weekend.html), "an Australian chap" can buy the club. But fingers crossed The Rock hasn't fully ruled himself out yet!

Please find below a simulation of how I believe a Dwayne Johnson / Southend takeover would go:
https://i.ibb.co/cFwyzJV/image.png

And lastly I am nothing if not a man of my word so here are FOUR games you should watch this weekend!

Is Kudus making his debut tonight? I expect the Irons to pillage Kenilworth Road tonight, not sure why people are painting it as Galatasaray when Luton can't even trap a ball without conceding :moop:

Kenilworth Road is such a great/shit stadium.

Proper non-league feel to it.

Kenilworth Road is such a great/shit stadium.

Proper non-league feel to it.

Not non-league (take it from me), but it's definitely up there with some of the league 1 and 2 stadiums I've been to over the years.

If you want Non-league, I went to Watch Great Wakering Rovers on Monday and it was good fun. I'm used to fans being on a first name basis with the players, but seeing a player getting a yellow for shouting "oh fuck off, George" at someone in the stand / bus-stop is a first. As is 3 red cards. One after the final whistle.

John Arne
02-09-2023, 08:02 AM
He's left?

He's still being paid £70k odd a week by Man Utd, and just shipped off on a temporary loan.

Is this really how fans are going to worm there way out of this?

Kikó
02-09-2023, 08:05 AM
Well the ideal situation would be his contract was terminated but I'm not sure what worming is going on. They've moved him out of the club. If they bring him back next year to try and pretend all is forgiven then let's discuss.

Gray Fox

More likely no one over here wants to buy for obvious reasons and a suggestion of a contract termination will likely be rejected by him or more likely his legal team declaring he's not been found guilty of anything and as such has done nothing wrong. He's likely loaned away until his contract expires or until Saudi buy him.

Ian
02-09-2023, 08:36 AM
I don't think anybody on here went any further than me saying they didn't want to cheer a team with him in it so I suspect this is just people responding to the posts they'd like to imagine were made than the ones that actually were.

More likely no one over here wants to buy for obvious reasons and a suggestion of a contract termination will likely be rejected by him or more likely his legal team declaring he's not been found guilty of anything and as such has done nothing wrong.

Basically, yeah. I mean they could have just sacked him and worn it if they actually had any principles but these people don't or they wouldn't be in the line of work they're in. Because the 'new evidence" they're claiming to have seen is clearly made up so not a chance anybody's doing anything other than pretend he actually is, like, totes innocent, yeah.

Big club loans out young prospect for a season, big whoop. There's no doubt he ends up back in a Utd shirt.

Sir Andy Mahowry
02-09-2023, 08:52 AM
It does feel like they'll loan him out for this year (and maybe next year) then try to integrate him back into the team as they hope people will have forgotten by then.

Absolute heist selling him to Chelsea.

Waffdon
02-09-2023, 05:50 PM
You’ve just made that up.

The biggest issue is Thiago Silva having to be forced into the XI. Means they’re vulnerable to the counter and alongside that he’s got two folk out of position to accommodate him. The sooner Silva fucks off the better

What's happened there then? Saka's been fouled, but has then been booked for the 'foul' on Fernandes which wasn't a foul because Saka had already been fouled so Arsenal get the freekick? I thought once the 'whistle has gone' you can only get done for violent conduct [ie not a yellow card foul]?

It seems a bit mad. He was clearly off balance because he’s been fouled and in isolation it looks bad. Var were even checking it for a red which is mad. Imagine getting fouled and sent off? Surely the fact he’s fouled sort of negates the rest, bar as you say a genuine violent conduct style retribution.

The seller inherits the debt if they want it (INEOS would absorb it into a separate vehicle apparently) or clear it if they buy it outright (Qatar). One credible explanation I've heard is they see the value of the NFL clubs and see a bigger ceiling than the one currently offered - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/washington-commanders-sale-nfl-owners-approve-dan-snyder-josh-harris-6-billion/#:~:text=NFL%20owners%20unanimously%20approved%20t he,North%20American%20professional%20sports%20team .

English sports teams will always be bottlers by default. We can win occasionally when we find a way of scamming the competition or manipulating resources to our advantage (jelly bean reverse swing; cheating swim/bike suits; the entire sport of rowing) but in a mano a mano battle of physical aptitude and resolve we will always tend to lose. If we're not favourites in a big game we will lose. Pretty much guaranteed. That isn't the case with other nations.

The reason we do well is for reasons that are nothing to do with the England team or management, for instance having the world's best and deepest football culture other than maybe Brazil.

niko_cee

This all sounds like a load of hot air bullshit.

Fair enough, sitting around 'manifesting' winning the world cup is obviously absolute wank [although a lot in here seem to be somewhere on that spectrum]. Brazil have just gone through twenty years without winning it, so the idea of any nation being entitled to win is clearly mad. Maybe we have enough top top players around and coming through now, but, unfortunately, not everything always goes to plan. The last exit wasn't so much bottling as getting mugged and/or the continuation of the trend of safety first Southgate being both a blessing and a scourge. I'm not sure you can coach 'mentality' at international level in the same way you can at a club.

Shindig

Walking around claiming failure is not an option when you're going to fail is their attempt at dealing with decades of shit, but it's shallow and naive. They're already attempting to fix the collective psychology, but they're doing it in a way that only a weak minded group would. Isn't the best solution to breed a winning culture through the age groups, so players come in to the senior set-up with experience of having done well on the international stage? Which they sort of have been doing of late. For too many years [and to some extent it is still the case] England took the view that one senior cap at 18 forever precluded you from going back to [appropriate] age group stuff whereas countries like Spain [long time bottling losers] would be rolling out 22 year old Juan Mata and [linked to United for loads of money] Thiago in their U21 sides for the major age group events.

*I have no idea about the defence in general, you could obviously put Stones or Walker in there somewhere if you wanted to be less BANZAI. That Lewis Dunk has 1 cap [or whatever piteous amount it is] should be a national scandal.

It's bigger than that. Plus, the kids aren't going to come in and change the mentality of the first team so easily. Bellingham may be crucial moving forward but he seems more Kante than Sergio Ramos so I wouldn't bet on it.

Jimmy's thoughts are a good example of what the problem is and Southgate's tactics are a result of the nationalistic mindset. Football is a very complex game that all too often boils down to mindset and culture because all the training in the world means nothing when failure is not just an option, but expected.

The team clearly has enough about them to win but there's no self awareness about where the problems are, so you see this bravado of a fake 'winner's mindset' and it gets you nowhere. It must be hard to be at the top of the game and see yourself and your team as having huge flaws, but they're there and they won't go away until they're confronted. The FA are desperately hoping a cup win will leave this stuff in the past but they don't have to rely on that sort of luck.

It's Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua stuff. Self-awareness is key and Southgate is the worst offender of all as he has absolutely none, and you can't expect the simple minds of the England team to have any so they're fucked.
