Arsenal put a couple of wins together and we're back to 2010 and nobody is allowed to get about them.
Remember when I said Liverpool might come 3rd and everyone lolled.
Remember when I said Liverpool might come 3rd and everyone lolled.
When Liverpool have to play Leicester and Southampton in their last 3 games, it's a huge possibility.
Newcastle are away to Chelsea on the last day so that could be significant.
I also think Man United may flop at Bournemouth in a couple of weeks. Bournemouth go all out at home and can suddenly turn up with Billing running the show and take you apart.
Lofty
07-05-2023, 09:27 PM
Bournemouth will be on the beach then surely. Liverpool's problem is they have 9 maximum points left to take against three teams that will be scrapping like mad. United really are playing 4 teams who are going to be mid table. Newcastle have the trickiest run in but are also the best team of the three so I expect they will win their two home games and smash Frank to take 9 from a possible 12.
Gray Fox
07-05-2023, 09:37 PM
Brighton could also make it up there, but have to still play Newcastle, Arsenal and City themselves.
I think Liverpool just started the winning run a couple of games too late. Even if they win all 3 remaining, which I don't think they will, you're still needing United to drop points twice and I don't see them doing that in any of their home games.
If Newcastle get Big Sam'd at Leeds then maybe there's a chance, but I can't see it.
The problem with Man Utd is their squad depth. Once they have their strongest XI playing like the likes of Phil Jones and Lee Grant they should have enough to cling on to top 4.
We'll stroll to EL glory tbf but if a minimum CL semi is worth more coefficient points, maybe we should just get put forward as the CL side for the benefit of English football (as well as mid-table shite like Utd who may need a 5th place in future).

Decent last day for the Championship today.
Middlesborough at home to Coventry, with Boro having nothing to play for and a point being good enough for Coventry I reckon they play out a draw.
Millwall are at home to Blackburn which should be good because both have to win, though Blackburn need big favours from elsewhere.
Sunderland are away at Preston and West Brom are away to Swansea. Could well be some final day madness about.

It's the only thing we have to nail any hope to. Unfortunately I think you could extend that offer to each individual player and it wouldn't help, we just don't have the quality.
Magic has nailed it, we're the worst team in the league. It boggles the mind that Southampton exist below us. Granted, I don't watch a lot of non-Leeds football so my exposure to them is limited but I'm certain they can't be as bad as us at our worst. And we exist almost exclusively at our worst at the moment.
If by some miracle we escaped the scale of the rebuild required to make us competitive in the league next season would be staggering. I'm not sure it would be doable and I kind of don't have any interest in staying up to go through another season of this. It's just shit. At least going down would be a strong catalyst for moving a lot of them on.
I mean I say all that but then obviously I'll be going into the weekend hoping against hope we turn Newcastle over and stay in contention. Fucking football. :D

Nail on the head.
Bamford is the perfect example of this. Patrick Bamford is not a good striker. He never has been a good striker. There was just a two year period of smoke and mirrors (the promotion season and the first season up) where Marcelo worked his magic and set us up to play in such a way that he couldn't help but to bag a certain numbers of goals.
The promotion season in particular I remember still spending the majority of the season very frustrated with him and aware we needed better. An actual clinical finisher would have netted 30+ times in the league that season.
You wouldn't want anything to do with Aaronson, trust me. His first order of business this summer needs to be a job lot of protein shakes and a three month gym membership. He's made of paper. Harrison will land somewhere in the Premier League I imagine. He blows hot and cold but when he turns up he's a great contributor. Plus he's English, which tends to add a certain allure to some prospective buyers I suppose.

Listen, dude, I don't have time for parochial long ball knockings. If you're not elite it's about making yourself elite. Decades ago a penniless man in a dish-dash walked across the hot sand, found this unusual black goo oozing from the desert floor, and had a dream: of regenerating east Manchester, of bald men in pullovers, of a four-man press. Jack Grealish. Stonesy. Riyad Mahrez, cutting inside. Goals. Sheets as clean as his nation's conscience. European Cup football used to be reserved for the aristocracy: now it's open to the dreamers and the upstarts. Real Madrid. Champions League, Liverpool, Arsenal, I thought that one of them we would draw, and it is Arsenal. We're lucky to be living through this era. Analytics has democratised the game. Ivy League maths prodigies used to be on the streets, locked out of this sport. Vinicius Junior, man: amazing talent allied to hard work. What could sum up the twenty-first century better than that? Chelsea, the ultimate romance. One year you win the UEFA Champions League, the next year it's all 0-1, 1-3, scores like that. Magical. The characters of the game. Martinez, using the Cup as a penis: funniest moment in soccer history. Ronaldo, Messi, growing the game in the Kingdom. You just wish there was more. You wish it was every week. Fuck the FA Cup. Small sample size. International break? Yawn, mate. Sweden, Poland? These are the tired entities of the past. crypto.com. Google. Pele and Maradona, in the multiverse, big man little man. Flick-ons. Skills. Aramco 4, Everton 1. Booooo. Elite, dude. This is elite.

I guess it's a case of keeping him on for that one moment of brilliance but I feel like Barella has been completely anonymous in this game.
I thought Barella was more about the work rate than the moment of brilliance [not that I watch much of him].

He is, but I reckon, looking at their bench, you might be able to get adequate work rate from a substitution but nowhere near the same attacking threat. It just feels like he's barely been involved in Inter's attacks in this particular game.

BBC tells me that's also the only time a semi-finalist has had an older goalscorer than Dzeko (Giggs) so quite fitting really.
That Schalke were terrible. The first leg would have been 6-0 without Manuel Neuer, and the second leg was 4-1 with Anderson and Darron Gibson scoring. Ferguson mugged himself right off thinking that beating them meant they could try to play in the final.
Looking at the quality of that game, I'm still frustrated about my Benfica bet.
It was by far and away the best chance for Benfica to make the final since 1990.
Benfica hit a terrible bit of form over those 3/4 games. Plus while they're winning a lot this year, they aren't blowing teams away.
Next season wullie

Brown offered to join Allardyce at Leeds
Former Hull City manager Phil Brown offered to join Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff at Leeds, but was turned down.
Brown, who has also managed at Preston, Swindon, Southend and most recently Barrow, worked alongside Allardyce at Blackpool and Bolton as his assistant.
“He rang me and said he was going in at Leeds. I asked him to take me with him and he said he’d made his mind up; he’s not gone with overly experienced lads, he’s gone for energy on the training ground,” he told BBC Sport.
How desperate does that sound?
Yeah don't admit to that, Phil.

He'll be similar to the Glazers (maybe with more palatable mood music) but you won't be owned by some thinly veiled arm of the Qatari state so there is that.
Debt moves to Ineos, club can actually invest with the money they generate. If the intention is to actually invest in the club and provide a vision then ratcliffe is the best bid in the ring.

I'm not sure this is true. He made mistakes at Nice when he first took over there but apparently he's been doing a good job of rectifying them in recent times.
At the end of the day we don't need backing with the wealth of a nation state like City. We just need an owner who allows the club to spends what it earns and leaves football matters to football people.
Although the neglect of the Glazer era does mean some serious investment is needed in the stadium etc which I guess Ineos will be less able to just fund from their pocket money than Qatar.
