Good brand synergy though, as 3 in 95 is also our odds of a top eight finish.

Not to mention that he's already hitting the target numbers for a Chelsea forward, so you will have reduced costs for The Operation.

Desperately badly would be my guess after a career soft pedaling in Italy followed by a peak years move to Saudi Arabia.

Henderson at 33 and probably big wages is fair enough, even if the fee [£10m] isn't spectacular, but unless Fabinho has actually fully gone to shit and it wasn't some sort of burnout/unknown personal trauma/alliance of useless team mates making him look terrible last season then Liverpool shouldn't really be considering selling him.

Also, I don't know if it was in this thread that Baz was worrying about the prospect, but 'Darwin' has taken the vacant 9 shirt at Liverpool. Should probably have had it as an incentive to whoever makes that position theirs this season, but this probably gets a few more shorts sold [and then sold again when he gets shifted on].

Yeah I’d rather Thiago was the one on the way out than Henderson just from the leadership viewpoint.

So now they have his head turned, the Saudi club have backed off because they want to get Henderson in on the cheap/free.

I suspect the Fabinho one would happen with minimal fuss. If Lavia is as coveted as reported, then the ~£40m for Fabinho would essentially directly pay for him. Depends if Fabinho wants to go really.
It's a much easier sell for Henderson. He's 33, won everything at club level and has just seen the club buy two players for decent money in his position.
Fabinho is still 29 and I believe his issues last year were just him being fucking knackered. He might want to wait a few more years before taking the payday, but I suppose it depends how much they're offering him.

Jamie Carragher warns LGBTQ+ 'ally' Jordan Henderson he'll face 'criticism' if he moves to Saudi Arabia - where homosexuality is illegal - for £700,000-a-week

I presume he warned his mate 'Stevie G' of this as well, or perhaps just accepts that Stevie is not an ally.

Yevrah
14-07-2023, 10:34 AM
I did enjoy Ferdinand digging Carragher out for continually criticising the whole thing for weeks and then saying absolutely nothing when Gerrard moved.

And I'm not sure what these players are supposed to do other than take the money. Everybody in the establishment (FIFA, our FA, Sir Gareth etc.) said it was ok to go and play in a World Cup in the Middle East, but what, now it's suddenly not ok to play for a club side there?

Reminds me in ways of the LIV Golf situation. You might as well be one of the ones getting in and getting more money than you know what to do with, because eventually FIFA is just going to sanction it or have some kind of merger between the leagues.

Yevrah
14-07-2023, 10:40 AM
As has been clear for ages, none of them give anywhere near as much of a shit about LGBTQ+ rights as they would like the general public to believe and Jordan Henderson won't be giving that a second thought in his decision either.

Yep. Jimmy's call about inviting them into the Champions League is bang on. However, and I think this is where it might be way more damaging than LIV could have been for golf, that won't stop Saudi Arabia eventually hoovering up all of the best players in the World, effectively killing the other top flight leagues. It just needs one player in their prime to go (say Vinicius Junior) and the floodgates will open.

Representing your own country in the World Cup in Qatar when you had no say over it being held there is definitely different to going and representing a Saudi club and being paid millions to do so.

It is, but if football in general was saying it was fine to hold a World Cup there, why is it not fine to play for a club side there? Is it the money? Are people jealous?

Yep, Mbappe would be the motherload and it's absolutely game over if he goes.

Hardly, he's already playing for a made up team in a nothing league funded by the sand people.

This existential threat extends as far as the FIFA Ultimate Team Pack twat fan market. Beyond that no one is going to give a fuck about this thing, regardless of how much 'talent' they manage to hoover up.

it's also, as has been pointed out, massively unsustainable and they don't actually have unlimited money.

Mbappe won't go yet because he is wanting out of PSG for the exact reason he won't go to the desert: he knows his legacy will be tainted unless he does it in a top league.

Honestly thought Fabinho was closer to 35. Christ, his fall off has been tremendous.

I was surprised he was as old as that when I saw it in a story a while back, either thought Liverpool had signed him younger or he's been there longer than I thought, but yeah, not exactly following the Fernandinho path of still being a don at 35 or whatever. Hopefully, if he stays, that's down to exhaustion/being overworked rather than permanent decline. He's never seemed the sort to become useless overnight for traditional Brazilian reasons.

This is what's annoying. Bad News Pearce was trying to have it on that our business was done already, when 4 midfielders have left and 2 have come in. I bet they don't even think of trying for Caicedo, who looks a perfect fit for our type of midfield player and can cover right back in emergencies.

It's horseshit. I don't quite know why Howe or Newcastle have gone for the horseshit angle, but a quick look at this (https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/transfers/verein/762) suggests their net spend is below £50m to date, so God only knows why they're claiming they need to sell before they can buy.

Sounds like 13m with some add ons. A shame he and Fabinho are just essentially vanishing. If you'd told me that Saudi would try and pinch Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago and the latter would be the one to tell them to piss off I'd have lolled you out the door.

Tricky situation now. You'd have got 40+ games out of Fab and maybe 20-30 from Henderson and now everyone knows what money you have. Realistically need two in as well unless you fully commit to Trent, but even then you need a right back.

What a shit time this would be to be without CL money for the first time in forever.

Henderson would go for £5-6m max to any other non Saudi team and you’d be lucky to get £25m for Fabinho given he was signed for £40m in 2018 and has progressively gotten worse

niko_cee
19-07-2023, 08:58 PM
I think progressively gotten worse is harsh, more like has shown alarming signs of rapid decline. I'm still not convinced it's that good an idea to get rid of him as I think he somewhat recovered last season and he's a decent utility player even if you don't see him as a first teamer anymore.

No one else would pay money for Henderson as he's on pretty lol wages, so Liverpool are saving the £20m+ in wages over the next few years in addition to the fee.

Gray Fox
19-07-2023, 09:03 PM
Problem is you didn't know which Fabinho you were going to get. If last season is a blip and he's back you could probably get 60m+ but the other issue faced is these clubs have already sold the player on tripling(or more) their wages to move over there and given the talk of Fabinho was of a successor coming in and Henderson actually already seeing his replacements signed, they're going to push to go immediately.

While I also think there will be a struggle to replace them without spending way over the near 60m combined, there's not a lot of choice to be had.

Gray Fox
25-07-2023, 04:01 PM
The view of Lavia is that of raw talent, high potential. They wanted to bring him in to have him play a reduced role this year, while he learns the system, gets his PEDs and is tutored by a senior mentor.

Fabinho maybe leaving put this on hold as he's probably not ready to hold down the fort in our mental football yet. They would have instead chased a more plug and play 6 type instead.

The two things are probably connected. Belief is Southampton value at £50m, but City have a buy back clause for £40m that activates in 2024, so any deal will likely be inbetween the two.

I could also say the troubled left-back or the okay looking attacking mid in a relegated club wouldn't be worth breaking the bank for either. But Robertson and Wijnaldum showed your previous club doesn't matter too much.

Why wouldn't you just wait/go for Kane?

Sounds like he wants the guaranteed trophies of Bayern rather than a non-City English team.

Nah, very reliably reported he wanted to come to United this summer. Levy is just not entertaining bids from inside the league, so his only options if he wants to go this summer are Bayern or PSG.

Yeah, but Levy isn't going to be allowed to maintain that position.

Even at £100m he'd be worth it for United.

Swap for Mbappe. Jimmy's colleague knew it.

Mbappe rocking up at Spurs with a gentlemans agreement that he can go to Real next year would be amazing.

He is, because he has clubs from outside the league making offers.

If no foreign club were interested or if Kane outright refused to sign for any non-English club then it would get interesting but neither of those scenarios look likely.

He should be insisting on Madrid or staying in the Premier League really, but then he is a bit of a retard when it comes to career decision making.

Kane is too old for Madrid.

Henderson has already had his first training session with Al-Ettifaq, despite there yet to be anything even said about him going from Liverpool. Strange situation. He was apparently at Anfield the other day to film a goodbye video, but he and the club must have their fingers in their ears because a lot of the fanbase has rounded on him over the move.

There's a push on to get the Lavia deal done tonight. Liverpool fly out to Singapore tomorrow and Klopp wants him there pronto. Probably about £45m.

Fabinho also looks likely to leave again. The dog story was bollocks, it was that Al-Ittihad could not register players. They now can and so it is expected to happen. Unless Klopp decides it's too late to try and replace him now, he'll be gone by the weekend.

Al-Hilal going into next season with a midfield of Milinkovic-Savic, Verratti and Neves is a bit :cab:

Ousmane Dembele to PSG for 50m Euros which is his release clause.

Edit: Clause goes up to 100m on July 31st.

Not sure Chelsea signing Brighton’s potential replacement for Caicedo bodes well for them agreeing to sell the latter

As ridiculously good as he looks (blacker than coal and 190cm+, not seen him kick a ball yet), this is a statement, a proper changing of the tides moment if Brighton hold on to Caicedo.

I'd also like to think Brighton's ridiculous style of football will further flourish and really turn them into an established top 6 side but the Dyche demolition of last season makes me think they might be found to be a little naive if they're gonna go into the season and take the kind of bold risks in inviting the press that they've been doing in pre-season. More than half the teams now simply won't press them meanwhile we may break the record for high goalscoring game when we face them (and it'll be a comfortable victory too).

At the start of last season it was Haaland vs Nunez for who will be the bigger success, and the latter has been lolled off planet Earth.

Hopefully Jackson vs Hojlund has a similar outcome.

Hopefully some Saudi lads will recall lines from this article (https://www.arabnews.com/node/2132656/sport) such as
In a tale of two big summer signings, Nunez came off the bench to win a penalty and score his first goal since a 75-million euro ($77 million) move from Benfica, while Erling Haaland had a City debut to forget.and make a big money move for the donkey.

Isn't Hojlund essentially a poor man's Haaland? He'll do.

He's got 9 goals ever in a top flight league. He's highly regarded but incredibly unproven. It's a crazy price tbh.

Looks like Amrabat will be next and that's probably us done unless Maguire leaves.
