As I'm sure you have all seen, there's a runaway Chinese balloon over Missouri. The Chinese say it's a weather balloon that got caught in a breeze. The yanks say it's a surveillance balloon.

I personally find it a bit hard to believe that the worlds leading surveillance state is sending out fucking balloons to spy on us all. It's a bit 1940's. but who knows?

Maybe the Chinese got it at a party and it accidentally got swept away by the wind.

Can't the yanks just shoot the fucking thing down to know for sure, or is that against those pesky rules of war?

Chinese officials have previously publicly expressed interest in the potential military and intelligence-gathering potential of balloons.

"Technological advances have opened a new door for the use of balloons," an article in the military-run Liberation Army Daily said last year.

That's you told.

I think they're scared that it's being kept aloft by Ebola.

Apparently they're very hard to shoot down. You can't puncture them effectively and let them slowly glide down because the balloon is sort of slack, so you have to properly blow it up, which would send all the flaming bits flying everywhere. I think the Chinese are just having a lol with it really. They won't be getting anything that they didn't already know or can't get from satellites.

I enjoyed the Chinese line saying that the balloon's use was 'mostly meteorological'.

This feels all a bit convenient from America’s side considering they had a state visit to China coming up. Nobody uses fucking balloons to spy anymore, even if they like to portray China as still third world.

China have just sent it for the lols. If they wanted to actually spy there’s a million better ways.

The worlds most powerful armed forces cucked by a balloon. :harold:

What an odd spin, should they have tried to land it on one of their citizen's houses?

First recorded air to air kill for the F22 Raptor, really starting to see some return on that $70billion. I desperately hope some pilot is now stencilling a little 'barroon' on his fuselage.

Second 'kill', if that's the word for it, feels like the world is teetering towards some sort of apocalyptic event at the moment.

At present I'm just hoping the inevitable World War we're heading for will happen at some point between me and my son being of conscription age.

What the fuck is going on here? Are we sleep-walking into a conflict with an [advanced] alien race by shooting down all their probes?
