It's really murky what this is actually about, but the most convincing thing I've read is that they made agreements with players to (on the surface) reduce their pay during covid via their contracts. This was what was presented in their official accounts.
What they actually did was either secretly continue paying them their full wage or agree to pay it at a later date. From what I understand, not declaring this in their accounts is illegal, particularly because they are publicly traded.
