View Full Version : Do you give blood?

Currently a national shortage of blood, which I thought was a passable excuse for this fairly useless thread.

I do not - although I would like to - because if you've ever had a diagnosis of ME/Post- viral chronic fatigue you are permanently banned from donating in the UK.

No, I'm scared of needles.

I did sign up years ago in the hopes that I could make it down and giving blood a couple of times would help get over the fear but I never did and now I get calls from the blood team which I have to ignore.

Once or twice but then stopped. Now I know they're selling it to make super soldiers for Bill Gates, I've stopped.

My brother's diabetic, so they routinely took some from me and my sister as kids, but that's it and nothing since. Which I can only put down to sheer laziness as I have no problem with needles.

I'm too much of a needle pussy to go near them for anything that isn't necessary.

I do now and again. I used to be regular but honestly it's hard to find anywhere semi-local at a suitable time so I just wait for one of the random pop-ups. Plus I travel quite a way every few months to do the plasma donation because they told me they're far more desperate for that and candidates are much harder to come by.

I'd love to inconvenience and likely self-harm myself so that some [likely fat] fucks who I care not a jot about benefit but I've not got round to it yet.

Nope. They're massively fussy about who can donate here so I'm not interested in jumping through the hoops to see if I meet the criteria.

It's an awful pity for every fuck, fat and thin, that you wouldn't permanently self harm yourself.

"Self-harm myself" as opposed to self-harming someone else?

You don't deserve my uncontaminated blood.

Another no here. I haven’t checked in a while but they wouldn’t let me due to living in England between 1980 and 1996 to prevent the spread of BSE

Potentially. I've had my bloods tested more times than I can count. Christ knows what they're doing with it.

I don't. I value my own time more than someone elses health.

I don't, for no reason whatsoever. Just not something I can be bothered doing.

I do it once or twice a year. Makes me feel nice and self-important.

I do, about 3/4 times a year.

One of the top Peter Hitchens columns is his blood donor (https://www.firstthings.com/web-exclusives/2017/12/bleeding-for-britain) one. It's like a greatest hits compilation.

I presume the people who are against donating wouldn't accept a transfusion if they needed one?

I would like to give blood. However, I am overweight and asthmatic. Would this prevent me from doing this?

Provided you don't weigh over 25 stone and you are not actively having an asthma exacerbation at the time, it would not stop you.

You can find the specifics regarding asthma here:
https://my.blood.co.uk/KnowledgeBase

(Can't link directly to the sthma page because of how the site works).

I'm not against donating, I just can't be arsed.

I definitely wouldn't accept RL's blood.

Neither would I.
