This is disgraceful. What are West Brom fans hoping for, Champions League? He's a good manager with a great record so this is a huge surprise and, quite frankly, a disgrace. Sort yourselves out, lads, because you can't and won't do any better. Idiots.

Let this be a lesson to us all: aim to do better, and we shall all fly to great heights, with the benign wind of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund at our backs.
Just in time to take over England. Canny.

We'd probably be first with Bruce in charge right now. You're right about Arabs, Floyd.

Infogol has WBA second in the XG table. I've seen another model that has them top. Bruce robbed again.
Or xG is a load of shite.

I think xG means expected Greggs whenever the context involves Bruce.

The only context in which xG is useful is when it's to shit on Liverpool for buying Nunez.

If they expected goals, they wouldn't celebrate so much.
It makes you a Guardian reader.
Nah it's just the baseball getting to him and now he thinks the stats are better than the thing.
Which is probably not far wrong in baseball's case, to be fair.

Spare a thought for Alex Bruce who might finally have to land a job without his dad's help.
Dave.

He'll soon be back in management. The Middlesbrough job is available.:harold:

Genuine question, is there a worse manager with 1,000+ games to his name at the level Steve Bruce has been operating at?

Take your pick. At the moment I would say maybe Danny Wilson is below him? I'm splitting hairs here.
Danny Wilson spent the majority of his managerial career below the Championship, so not really comparable.

Yeah, skimming through the list was hard because each English one had a, "Ah, he did this important thing." attached to them. Steve Bruce has had promotions but none of them really led anywhere. He takes over from people rather than building a house all his own. Even if he won the FA Cup with Hull, it wouldn't have changed his profile much.

Four promotions to the PL in his time. A good, good, good, good manager.

All this does is drive home how overpowered Scottish managers are. If it was on FM we'd be calling for a patch.

It's the accent. Exudes authority in that kind of macho setting. Now we're into the era of analysis and personal groomers, the Scottish manager will fade from view if he hasn't already.
Sean Dyche's voice is worth 10pts a season to his teams, but we're into the Howe-Potter era. Lib Dems in number ten.

Not if Mark Fotheringham has anything to do with it based on the reaction to his Dundonian accent on SkySports yesterday by Social Media.

Now this is a good question.

Bruce just is what he is. He's not the worst manager there has ever been he's not the best manager ever. I think he's a little bit lost since defensive football really started to disappear because he doesn't seem to know how to play any other way.
Oh and I would never want him in charge of my club but if I was a Wigan fan and he kept us in the Premier League for a few years or if I was a Birmingham fan and he got promotion to the Premier League and kept us up for a few years I would probably take it. What I wouldn't want is to be a fan of a big club and having to watch football that is designed to get you 35 points and get you finishing 17th.
Luckily Bruce has never managed a big club so we will never know.

I would say Mick McCarthy is similarly good/bad, albeit his career is embellished by managing a cute little nation to the World Cup last 16.

Aye you only have to look at Wolves after he left and before the Portuguese takeover and Ipswich still now to see that he knows how to set a team up to make them hard to beat and potentially better than the sum of it's parts. But the football is hard to watch and he definitely has a shelf-life at a club.

That World Cup was that bad because of the overblown Champions League that last 16 was underachieving.

You were a couple of kicks away from getting to Korea in the quarter-finals, that would have been a close game, edge through that and you're playing Germany in the semis, who you already drew with in the group stage. Another 1-1, win on penalties, you're into the final against Brazil.
Yeah, I can't make you beat Brazil.

Robbed by Korea in the quarters at least. That would have done.
Missing one of our only two world class players at the time too. Though if he’d stayed and been a humpy cunt for the whole thing it probably would have been worse.
