You know when a tech guy comes in to fix issues within some software that your workplace has been using for years? Well they tend to find that the people who replaced the replacement for the replacement of the guy who originally installed it, have all left. What you get then is a system that nobody really knows how it works any more and as such cannot really fix, more than enough to bodge it and everyone carries on. The only way to make it fully better is to start from the ground up, but then that is extremely more expensive than just bodging it.

There was a Twitter thread from a guy that's worked with EA for years and has said that this is essentially what they have going on now. They've built on top of previous versions so much that even simple things, the example given was cross play on pro clubs, take an absolute age to implement and even longer to do properly.
As such FIFA 23 is in a mess apparently. The big wigs dont want to tear up trees and rebuild the game as the current way of doing things earns them £1bn+ each year.

The hope is that EA Sports FC once that launches will be that chance to start anew, but I'm not holding my breath.

They could make a fresh break. The cynic in me says they'll just cannibalise '23, especially if they just want to release an Ultimate team only package. However, if it's no longer going to be an annual product, EA has the incentive to make sure they have a framework they can work with for years.

Konami changed engines for eFootball but that was entirely out of support for the FOX engine being shuttered. EA will still be using Frostbite and the one year turnaround probably means they'll pick the quickest option.

The main thing is that there isn't an equivalent to a "yellow link", so if you put a CM at CDM it doesn't add to chemistry. As long as position modifiers are abundant it won't be a problem, but EA will probably balls it up.

It's much better for squad creation, just a ballache for SBCs

I think it's more likely to come with next years game if I'm honest. That'll be the biggest chance for a ground-up rebuild. I know it likely wont happen but you never know.

Not a fan of Draft Challenges being obliterated. Also, if you choose a 5 atb system in a draft, your wing backs are not getting chemistry unless their base position is a wing back?

It's alright, but all a bit Emperor's new clothes. So you can in theory make fun teams in an easier way, but they're still not getting decent chem unless you basically have as many players with links from the old system in the new setup and even though they've nerfed chem, there's still a massive difference between the boosts you get for 3 diamonds as opposed to none.

LB's not being able to play at LWB or CM's at CDM is also a thing, yeah.

It's also fucked SBC's that require chemistry.

This year's early team. Gomez captain with most appearances at 34, Di Maria top assister with 31 and Ben Yedder (who is amazing) with 43 goals in 22 games. All first owner bar Gelshon Marteeeeeens, who I had to buy to get the cheddar man on full chem.

Did Silver Stars earlier which was nice and closing in on Div 8 in Rivals now. Had one game of Richarlison and thought fuck that. Not enjoyable and 12 games is ridiculous when I could be working towards qualifying for Weekend League and getting Rivals rewards.

Ive played over 150 games now. Sitting in division 3 and my best weekend league attempt is 14 wins. I have to say, im still super disappointed in the game. Its more of the same. Been gone for two years and i was expecting a lot more.

*The tactics and formation stuff is still the same
*gameplay is still the same. Kickoff goals are still a thing somehow
*You dont get the win, if someone quits
*Weekend league leaderbaords are gone
*You cant check your past results
*Still no history of players within your club, if they are sold or discarded

It's getting to the time of the year where I usually start getting the itch and start wishing I'd bought the game earlier.

Last year I started post TOTY and still managed to get arguably the best team I've had in any cycle. What gets me is to get the absolute "Ultimate team" you have to hit it like Yev does every few versions and he smashes TOTY. However the silly amount your team can upgrade just during TOTS means as long as you start before April you should be grand.

However, no signs of the itch yet this year.

I gave this a go and its been fun. You can still get 40 tokens. You have about 12 days left. You have to do it in a golden goal mode and you can do 60 games per day. You need 6 wins with players from all of the world cup nations. Ive got about 30 tokens so far. Most fun I've had in Fifa for a long time.

The 60 games per day, sounds like a lot. But it really isn't. You can run through them in just under 6 hours. Ive found myself annoyed that I don't have any games left.

There's a generally accepted rule of golden goal by the community. Most will quit after you score your goal. So those 60 games whizz by. It can get very toxic though. Some will score first and then pause for you, basically telling you to quit and fuck off. If you don't, all manner of shithousery begins.

The 60 games Sincere refers to are actually golden goal in the game, with no need for anyone to quit as the game just ends when the first goal goes in.

What is the method? Buy bronze packs. Sell the value. Keep bronze that are needed for SBC league. Keep the bronze that dont sell and do the bronze to silver upgrade. Then Silvers to gold. Repeat?

Sort of. I'm selling everything from the bronze packs that sells (no matter whether it's needed for a league SBC or not) then using the cards that don't in the bronze > silver, then silver > gold upgrades.

Essentially the only two segments that cost are the Lib/Sud one and the Fra 1/Ned 1 one. It takes a while, but you can get almost enough gold cards for the latter and almost enough Sud/Lib cards for the former from both of the upgrades. You could save the cards for these from what you pack from bronze packs, but you'll be sat on so many coins doing nothing from clubs all over those leagues if you do that, so I figured I'd save the untradeables and buy the cards I need to finish each off when I have a decent amount for each club. If that makes any sense.

I've made about 150k since last night and sat on a fuck tonne of rare bronzes that'll sell for 500 each when the next Icon SBC turns up.

I try to open enough Bronze packs to get 110 commons to fire into the upgrade SBC so I can open 10 silver upgrades at a time.

That's the winter and winter premium league SBC's done 5 times each for the objective rewards, so I can just focus on the premium one now.

Yeah he looks tidy. Different in-game stats so won't play the same, but a cool card. There's Clauss/Randolph which you could knock off super quick.

Nep has a "speed run" RTG video showing how quickly you can rattle through from zero to a decent team. Nice idea.

I've been grinding this a fair bit recently but not pulled anything top drawer. Couple of Chiellini's and a Chong. Got Abedi Pele from the Hero pack but he doesn't really make my team. I've got a pretty good team but I can't bring myself to commit to spending on a player only for their value to tank. Currently only have gold Hakimi as my only tradeable player in my first XI :cab:

In other news and with BPM having been profitable enough to save any rare bronzes that go for less than 550 I think I now have more in my club than I've ever had. A quick check on Futbin suggests there have been 1,800 released to this point (I guess some will be out of packs - death, legal reasons etc.), but I have 751 of them now, or 41.7%.

Given the league SBC's are there for another 19 days I'd like to think I could hit 1,500.

I was doing some BPM and need to do a bit more to support the lower of the league SBCSs. Need to do that one three more times for the full 10.

Not sure who is investing in what but 84s are cheap again. I usually try pick up a stack of them when they hit <2.8k. They went for 5k when that 86+ hero came out. I got normal Kewell or WC Kohler in that so took the latter based on value/rating.

Just took the three week old team into Weekend League qualifying and we made it, just. Played some ludicrous opponents (for my poor standard at least) in the first few games and also got a disconnect that the game blamed me for which left us 2-6 after eight games. Won the ninth 5-1 to take it to the final match. Which had the worst connection I've ever experienced in a game, pausing for 5 seconds at a time then furiously catching up. We somehow took a 3-0 lead into half time, but then went 4-3 down. He's equaliser coming with me having no control over the play at all. The constant press helped us equalise to take it to extra time where we ran out 7-4 winners with that unlinkable Ronaldo card coming off the bench to score a hat-trick. Legend.

No idea what playing weekend league on Sunday night is like but hopefully wins are given away a lot as people rush through it (didn't get any in qualifying). 6 wins and I'd be delighted.
