What's the highest average rating you've seen? Neymar's league average rating for me is 9.03 (after 23 games, he's out for the rest of the season), I think that's the highest I've ever seen.

Sometimes this game just really is desperate for you to lose, isn't it? Three injuries (including yet another 3/4 monther) and a red card seeing me play 10 minutes with ten men and 25 with nine men, plus the second time in three games I've conceded one of those cross-loops-into-the-far-top-corner atrocities. It actually allowed me to win in spite of all this but I could have done without my 945th injury of the season.

The stacked bar charts and other such shit that should be left in Excel to rot that have somehow found their way into the game via the staff screens is headache inducing.

Yep, they really are and I think this version is the absolute worst for it. So much of it is slightly different and very little of that appears to be an improvement as far as first impressions are concerned.

I just think they're at a point where there's so much technical overhead in the current design (which is basically 20 years worth of tweaks) that there's never going to be much radical change. Everything will just be incremental adjustments.

The UI is still Excel-on-acid.

I think they need to stop fucking with the UI just to be able to put 5 MILLION NEW FEATURES on their ads. Also changing things that didn't need to change, Yev you mentioned that the assistant's recommended role attributes are now on by default? Why? It's completely pointless, they are just moving stuff around for the sake of it.

I don't actually mind that - it'll be useful for when you check out a player and then accidentally miss that he's got no pace or something critical.

I'll still value some stats for each roles, regardless of SI's numberwang interpretation.

The issue with it is that your eyes are drawn to those stats in the first instance at the expense of the others and as the highlighted stats are those that are deemed important for the role the game thinks is the player in question's best and not necessarily the role I'm going to play him in, you end up being drawn to stats that aren't important (to you) and have to look harder for those that are.

My hopes of three in a row with Newcastle appear to be fucked. Eight games left and nine points to overcome and not playing the team who are top again. I had a lot of injuries but my form at that point was good, not really sure where it's gone wrong.

Third seems likely, don't fancy my chances much in the cups although I've got Shakhtar in the Champions League so I could make Champions League semis for the first time.

EDIT: As if by magic I've just lost my goalie and one of my strikers for a month. Super.

Ok, the create a club option is potentially brilliant and could lead to some fantastic forum challenges.

You load a league and a pick a team as your base (to create your club from) in that league, which you then get the option to change some aspects of (name, colours, logo, etc). All pretty rudimentary and nowhere near as powerful as what's in the editor. However, the brilliance comes on the next screen when you can clear the default squad out and then add which players you like (up to 30), within a given budget (which I think is linked to the financial status of the base club you chose).

For example, I picked Norwich and I have a squad budget of just under £100m. I can have Messi if I like, but (as his value is £75m) that means I only have £25m to spend on other players.

It's like fantasy football meets FM and if we all picked the same base club and then went about building our own squads to suit, the BANTER could be immense.

The only drawbacks I can envisage are players wanting to leave as soon as they realise they're in what used to be Norwich, the wages of players being an issue when it comes to wanting to renew their contracts (in the unlikely event they decide to stay) and the wage bill being fucked if I go and sign Lampard and Gerrard etc. (low value I imagine, but high in game wages).

I doubt SI have thought of these, let alone addressed them, but kudos for the mode though.

Counter attacking works, generally the match engine is pretty solid.

The UI will take some getting used to, I don't really like the new scout reports. But generally, it's good.

I'm not sure as I'm too lazy to look (I got mine via Steam), but I think places like CD Keys do it cheaper, but then you're into territory of having to wait for them to send you a code to unlock the beta.

Others might know more.

I've never had to wait for codes to be sent to me, it's always been immediate. On the rare occasions that I get a game I just buy a key from GreenManGaming or wherever there is a discount code. Then they send me the key which I activate on steam and voila. I think on FM I usually save around 10 euros which is quite a bit.

Bellerin is currently leading the PL average rating and assist charts on my game, his pace destroys the opposition seemingly. Rated 4 yellow/1black star by the United scouts too.. Full backs seem quite strong in this, compared to being absolutely hopeless in the 15 beta.

I'm dumping Callejon + Higuain + Mertens immediately for 31,5 + 47 + 22,5 million euro, and playing wingerless going forward. Gonna bring in Barbosa and some other more high-profile striker, other than that the squad should manage. Embolo might get picked up as well.

Is it me or do tactics seem a bit inconsistent in this? Just feels incredibly up and down week in, week out. Fucking Barnsley in the cup beat my full strength United side, had way more possession, more shots, despite it being a typical 4-2-3-1 with no contradiction instructions which had beat Liverpool 3-0 previously. Its...yeah, not really feeling much enjoyment currently, not because I'm not winning, it just feels a bit shoddy. Still, its the beta. Crossing is OP as fuck from the AI, as are ludicrous long shots.

A good tactic lasts 6 games where you dominate and win every game, then you'll quite easily lose 6 on the bounce.

Lots of missed penalties, lots of defenders ignoring short passing instructions and inside forwards don't seem to want to come inside.

After playing it for 12 hours now, everything outside of the match engine is literally exactly the same as it was before. The one and only positive change they've made is that if you're taking a playing off during a game, the players that can play in his position are highlighted on the bench.

Helps massively if you're playing with an unfamiliar squad as I am at the moment with St Albans.

Hopefully this version is better once most of all the real players have gone as it becomes too easy after that. The regens are not spread out well and only a certain amount of top regens which most the time the top teams snapped up, meaning you see loads of 5-0 wins etc week in week out.

I took the plunge last night and it quickly became clear this is a very good game. The match engine is spot on, the introduction of Prozone is a massive plus and there's more variety day to day.

Slight niggles would be information overload on certain screens and slow processing speeds.

So, I sold my best left back, and the squad started moaning about "lack of depth". Then I brought in two good to great D LCs to cover the position, but that didn't appease them, and I can't tell the fuckers to bugger off and that I HAVE strengthened the squad adequately. The dressing room is now "fractured".

Played 7 games with Sociedad, 6 wins and a draw puts me level on points with Real Madrid; Barca with a game in hand and 3 behind. Real look unstoppable at the moment, they've scored 20 and conceded a single goal.

Very impressed with the game so far. The match engine is really good, reactive tactics work well and it genuinely feels like you can effect a game (last version felt a little random and unresponsive).

The interface has also improved a little bit I'd say.

That's one of the things that put me off the last game. I remember bidding 750k for a 200k Blackburn youngster and they came back looking for £57m.

Just had that happen to me. Everton wanted €100MM for a 3-star Seamus Coleman. I then bid €20MM and they accepted straight away (he didn't even moan about them blocking the transfer, either). Very, very silly indeed.
